People write off states like Texas as dyed-in-the-wool Republican strongholds, but it wasn't always that way. Legendary author, organizer, commentator, and former State Agricultural Commissioner Jim Hightower is living proof that there is a strong progressive tradition in Texas that stretches back to the 19th century. Hightower has fought the far right for decades, but he has also seen how Democrats have abandoned grassroots organizing and how the Democratic Party has been hijacked by corporate money and self-serving elites. In this special episode of The Marc Steiner Show, recorded at Hightower's home in Austin, Texas, we talk to Hightower about House Bill 2127 (aka "The Death Star Bill"), how corporate power and far-right nuts took over Texas politics, and how to rebuild the progressive movement in the Lone Star State.Read the transcript of this podcast here. The issue of corporate political giving is a fairly persistent topic in campaign finance these days, but it took on renewed interest in the wake of the insurrection on Capitol Hill on January 6th. In the aftermath, corporations, ranging from Airbnb to Walmart, announced that they would be making changes to the way they dolled out their political cash. Bruce Freed is the president and co-founder of the Center for Political Accountability, a nonprofit advocacy organization that is leading the way when it comes to achieving corporate political disclosure and accountability. Bruce joins the Money in Politics podcast to help put these recent events in their proper context, as well as shed light on the lasting ramifications, if any, of corporate America's political spending hiatus.

In this episode, I rant about how the candidates you elect are bought and paid for by corporate lobbyists who work to push the agenda of their clients. The results of Citizens United vs. The Federal Elections Commission gave corporations the right to spend as much money as they want on "electioneering communications." These corporations (and labor unions) spend millions each year to influence you and politicians. They convince you on who to vote for, and they convince the elected officials to vote for policies that favor their bottom line. Many of these corporations own shares in the news outlets you rely on for the information you vote on. There is also a strong correlation between the amount a corporation spends on lobbying and the profits they make. Still think your vote really matters?

Nature Artist, Celia Cortez Nature artist Celia Cortez moved from corporate America to a full-time artist.  She lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico which is known as the “city different.” Artists from around the world reside in Santa Fe where they exhibit their craft. There is a special place called Canyon Road in Santa Fe.  This subdivision is well-known for its cultural architecture with an acacia flowing through.  Celia finds peace and tranquility along this acacia but also other places in nature.  She hikes and spends time getting to know what she is looking at. For Celia, being in nature takes a keen eye.  When she sees a flower where the petals are falling off she contemplates how she can showcase this in her drawings. She finds beauty in the whole process from life to death with flowers.  It’s amazing but even more so in how she honors nature.  There is life and death in nature and it is beautiful. Listen how Celia moved from corporate money to full-time nature artist.  She is inspiring so many including the elderly at an assisted home where she teaches them the art of drawing.  What’s Your P.I.? http://www.celiacortez.com (http://www.celiacortez.com) Celia Cortez Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/CeliaCortezArt/) Celia Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/celiacortezart/) Your Positive Imprint episodes page (https://yourpositiveimprint.com/episodes/)   Nature Artist Celia Cortez

Location: Palo AltoDate: Wednesday, 24th AugustProject: AbraRole: CEO & FounderFacebook announced in June that they would be launching Libra, with the mission of enabling a "simple global currency and financial infrastructure that empowers billions of people".Libra proposes a permissioned blockchain, meaning that unlike Bitcoin it isn't a decentralised project as control over the network is governed by the Libra Association. With these unique properties, Libra doesn't fit into the government-issued fiat financial model or the decentralised and trustless Bitcoin model instead. Libra is the dawn of a new type of money, the dawn of corporate money.Libra has not come without criticism, from central banks to governments to the cryptocurrency community and even the President of the United States, the announcement has ruffled feathers.Following two days of hearings in DC, where the head of Libra faced questions from Congress, there is still regulatory uncertainty regarding the currency. Other governments have also been pushing back, and there are rumours that some of Libra Association Founding Members are backing out. Will Libra even launch? If so, will it revolutionise money? To kick-off the What Bitcoin Did Libra series I am joined by Bill Barhydt, the CEO and Founder of Abra. קצת עצוב - How @DigitalOcean just killed our companyחברה בשם @raisupcom ש @DigitalOcean החליטו מסיבה כלשהי שהם Malware, ומשם העניינים הסתבכו. מא

Beyond Blade Runners and Replicants, there must be a place “Over the Rainbow” for us to exist in solidarity and equanimity. And certainly, the 21st Century hovering above us should be a cause for hope, not despair; yet even with this new century being no way near its quartermark, it's already given us a planet wheezing from ecological crisis-to-crisis, where an untenable economic system of neo-feudalism ravages plants and animals, as well as the rights of those we love (or should love). In the Terror & Twilight of Our Broken Age, what ideology best speaks and acts from a place made from compassion and love? Instead of passively looking at the new century that hangs in the sky, blinking obliquely above us, we should instead reorganize our motions to The North Star of Human Decency, namely that of Anarchy. For this 21st episode of The Future Is A Mixtape, Matt & Jesse will finally come out of the “political closet” and show some raw & real skin: they are both Anarchists Without Adjectives, and they believe that this ideology of love is the only practical solution to the world's byzantine disorders, fraught with confusion, warbling on without a just antidote. In their most personal and revealing podcast since the show's first episode, Jesse & Matt explore their disparate journeys to humanity's greatest romance, Anarchy; they will describe its origin story, its turbulent relationship with authoritarian communists and how this political philosophy is not only the most idealist of ideologies, but also why it's the only one which can ride inside us--whispering out “hope” for a utopian future. An adult could look right over it, and even a child could climb it. Where it crossed the roadway, instead of having a gate it degenerated into mere geometry, a line, an idea of boundary. But the idea was real. It was important. For seven generations there had been nothing in the world more important than that wall. Like all walls it was ambiguous, two-faced.
