This is part 2 of our new series titled The Freedom Through Passive Income Lifestyle and this time we talked about the purchasing of the house as is. We talked yesterday about how surreal everything is that we're actually even at the stage of life that we've been working at for so long, and had crazy days, thoughts at times that we're never going to make it to this stage. And we're not even where we want to be. But at least we're at a stage of life where we will be able to find a property in Florida while we were looking but we found one. It checked almost all the boxes were able to move just like that and quite frankly, we moved to Florida was a freedom through income lifestyle decision anyway.Download your Free Private Lending Report here: https://www.freedomcapitalinvestments.com/lendingDownload your Freedom # worksheet here: https://www.freedomcapitalinvestments.com/worksheetClick on the Social Media links below and listen in on our Private Group Conversations about how to achieve Financial Freedom through a consistent pipeline of passive income investments: https://www.facebook.com/groups/freedomthroughpassiveincomehttps://www.linkedin.com/groups/14048250—————————————————————————We wouldn't have been able to leave Ohio if we had not put in place all of the things needed and had leadership and the income pieces that gave us the peace of mind that we could actually step away from the business. Our new house is huge but the price was lower than our other options. When we purchased the home, we thought it was too good to be true. But, when we first saw the house, we realized it needed a lot of work and we viewed it as a worthwhile endeavor. We were not scared of the facelift the home needed and knew it would take months to bring the home up to our expectations. The bottom line is that we could not have made this life-changing move without this passive income lifestyle and a supportive team that continued to manage our companies. We worked for years to create the passive income system that allowed us to reach for our dreams and you can too if you never give up, be steadfast and strategically think about how you want to become financially independent and understand that it takes time to achieve your goals.Join our groups on Facebook and LinkedIn.https://www.facebook.com/groups/freedomthroughpassiveincomehttps://www.linkedin.com/groups/14048250www.FreedomCapitalInvestments.comInvest Smart. CLIP: And maaaybe (doubtful) you can get it for 20 bucks. Klein's buddy from Million Dollar Listing gives us a call
Last month, three firefighters — Paul Butrim, Kelsey Sadler and Kenny Lacayo — died while fighting a fire in a vacant house in South Baltimore. That tragedy put the issue of Baltimore's vacant houses back in the headlines, and top of mind for many. For many others in our city, vacant houses and blight have been part of their lives for decades. Over the years, city officials have tried to address the problem of abandoned homes in a number of different ways. One idea currently being discussed in the Baltimore City Council is to revive the Dollar House program, a program that was implemented more than 40 years ago. Since 2016, the Maryland Dept of Housing and Community Development claims to have demolished or stabilized 5,000 units, and they promise that 400 more are in the pipeline for demolition. But there are still 14,990 vacant houses in Baltimore City, according to the latest tally by the Mayor's office. Two weeks ago, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scottordered a review of what city agencies are doing about those vacant houses, which the Mayor has promised will “inform a plan to deal with Baltimore's vacant housing stock." The review is to be completed by the beginning of next month. Today on Midday, a conversation with the senior leadership of the Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development about the plan to rid the city of blight, and the overall strategy for creating safe, quality affordable housing for the thousands of Baltimore City residents who need it. Joining Tom on Zoom today are: Alice Kennedy, the Housing Commissioner; Jason Hessler, the Deputy Commissioner for Permits & Litigation; andKate Edwards, the Acting Deputy Commissioner for Development. As always, we welcome listener questions and comments. Our call-in lines are out-of-service today, but you can email us at Midday@wypr.org, or Tweet us @MiddayWYPR A note to our listeners: We experienced some technical difficulties with the recording of the first several minutes of today's live Midday broadcast. As a result, host Tom Hall provides a recap in today's podcast of the brief dialogue that took place before normal recording began, with our apologies to you and to our guests. This will be part three of our micro flipping series, and after this episode, you might think, 'oh, man, this is so simple.' And that's the point. Some of the best decisions you can make as an investor are so simple, that people forget about them. Or people don't execute them because they feel like it's too easy. And so what is that simple strategy? Well, Bob and I are gonna talk about the 10 year strategy that avoids taxes and compounds your equity. Learn more at www.ValueDrivenInvestor.com

The rush is on…and not for last minute gift shopping….Maryland residents are trying to find COVID tests. We visited some sites around town where lines were long and patience was a virtue. Some hospital leaders are pleading for the public's help in slowing the spread of omicron. A lawsuit against the Baltimore County Council contends its redistricting map violates the Voting Rights act. And Baltimore's old Dollar House program gets a hearing in the City Council. Is it time to bring back Baltimore's "Dollar House" program of the 1970s? WYPR's Aaron Henkin — the award-winning producer and host of Out of the Blocks, which ended a nine-year run a few months ago — looked into that question, submitted by listener Tracy Gosson, for a recent episode of Aaron's new podcast, The Maryland Curiosity Bureau. Aaron joins Tom to discuss the podcast, and in a clip from the Dollar House episode, he talks with Lilly Hyman, a homeowner who bought her house through the city's popular but short-lived Dollar Homesteading Program in 1975, and with others involved with city housing issues, then and now. Their comments suggest that a new program of urban homesteading could be in store for Baltimore, a city still contending with more than 16,000 vacant homes. You can hear brief excerpts from Aaron Henkin's new "Maryland Curiosity Bureau" podcaston Thursday mornings here on WYPR, during Morning Edition. You can drop Aaron a question of your own. What do you wonder about life in the Baltimore region? You can share your question, vote on what you want Aaron to report on next, and find the podcast on wypr.org/curiosity. Today on Midday, a few different takes on the subject of housing. A little later, WYPR's Aaron Henkin, the host of WYPR's new podcast The Maryland Curiosity Bureau, will join me to talk about his reporting on the Baltimore dollar house program. Then, our theater critic, J Wynn Rousuck, will review a production of Rent, the Tony Award and Pulitzer prize-winning musical that opened on Broadway 25 years ago. But we begin with Nneka N'namdi, an activist who is working to eliminate blighted housing in our city. The Dollar House program in the 1970s was seen as a big step forward. The Vacants to Value initiative in the administration of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake made some progress, but the number of vacant properties, about 16,000, hasn't changed significantly over the last decade. Nneka N'namdi describes herself as a “technoartivist,” who is applying her tech and creative skills to the cause of restoring neighborhoods that are ravaged by blight. She is the founder of the non-profit, Fight Blight BMore. Nneka N'namdi joins us on Zoom… See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Back in the 70s and 80s, you could buy a vacant house for a dollar if you promised to fix it up and live there. What happened to that deal? Why did it end? Can the city bring it back? And by the way, are any of those original homesteaders still around? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"If you get a rooming house here and this guy's got a million dollar house here, right, there's going to be some push to get the rooming house out, right. Because, it's lowering his property value, right. And, you know, a rooming house it's not the greatest place in the world, but it's providing a bit of a service where people can live, right. Because, it's hard as hell to live up there right now, right." Life Stories of Displacement are made to do not let us forget how we are building our cities and to mitigate the impact on marginalized, low income population, created in collaboration with Professor Brian Doucet at the School of Planning at University of Waterloo.

Part two of The Trump Jr. Files series exposes the potential link between Don Jr.’s keynote speech at a Russian real estate conference in June 2008 as the world’s financial markets were tumbling, and his father’s unusual sale of a $100 million dollar single family home in Palm Beach, Florida. We also discussed how close Trump Jr. and his sister Ivanka came to being prosecuted for a lie-filled sales pitch for the Trump SoHo Hotel-condo units in Manhattan, and how a major loan default with Deutsche Bank on the Chicago Trump Tower all happened in the second half of 2008, all potentially involving offshore cash and Russian money. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dworkinreport/support
Last week, at a packed Baltimore City Council hearing, housing advocates and others lent their support to a Resolution put forth by Baltimore City Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, which calls on the city to revive the Dollar House program of the 1970s and early 80s: Back then, the city sold more than 180 abandoned houses for $1 apiece, and, helped the buyers with financing and renovation help. Clarke, a Democrat, has represented the 14th District on the Baltimore City Council since 2004. From 1987-95, she was president of the City Council, the first woman ever elected to that position. She ran unsuccessfully for mayor in 1995.Clarke joined Tom today in Studio A. Later, Jay Brodie and Mike Posko joined the conversation. We discuss the importance of approaching topics from an analytical standpoint by conducting proper research, rather than basing opinions purely off of emotion and conjecture. This topic was partially inspired by a caller who challenged Tyrone regarding Malcolm X's legacy last week, and the caller's emotion driven statements were proven wrong in an entertaining and informative clip at the beginning of the show. From there we get into Hillary Clinton's visit to Baltimore (she visited Port Covington, while Bernie Sanders visited Sandtown), Bill Clinton's defense of her "super predators" comment in the 90s, how the Dollar House program can be a great way for the local government and the citizens to invest in the rebuilding of the community (as opposed to giving it up to corporate interests), and the importance of holding politicians accountable overall and how we should channel our collective power as leverage to make change. This is a hard hitting show packed with information, be sure to listen and share! Originally aired 04/11/2016 on WOLB 1010 AM Baltimore. Tune in every Monday from 2pm -3pm.
We watched the Good Dinosaur at the Dollar House and Hail, Caesar in the First Run Theater since it will end up at the Dollar House very soon. We don't offer any spoilers for Hail, Caesar!

This episode is an interview with Jacki Rigoni, who blogs at Post-Consumer Life. Jacki and her husband realised that their million dollar house was really just a million dollars of mortgage debt which they would have to work like crazy to pay off until the age of 75. So they decided to sell the house, get rid of the debt, buy a plot of land, build their own tiny home, and live off-grid. Listen to the episode to hear Jacki describe her inspiring story.
