We go over the tidbits of news like the Nintendo Music App, and Sony closing Firewalk Studios. Then we get into all the hot games we've been playing. I have gone hard into Dragon Age: The Veilguard and Matt hit up titles like Prodeus and Dicey Dungeons.
I finally got to the part in Metaphor: ReFantazio with the mandatory stealth section...I don't like stealth. Nintendo has launched a new music app, and it has a feature that Spotify doesn't - extending the game loop for up to an hour. However, they don't credit the artists on any of the songs, and this is partially due to how Japanese companies work. Sony has closed Firewalk Studios, who made Concord, and Neon Koi, a mobile game studio, just two years after purchasing them. Then we talk to Rob about the Nintendo Music App and the Like A Dragon: Yakuza series on Amazon Prime.
We are back after taking October off and a lot is happening at PlayStation. From Concord to Wolverine and God of War, there's a lot of movement happening at Team PlayStation. In Playing and Watching, Dave spent his time of way with Zelda Echos of Wisdom. While MJC started watching Dragon Age Veilguard and playing Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Micah shares his in-depth impressions of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, detailing how this game stands apart within the Dragon Age series but noting that it might not appeal to every fan, possibly even himself. We analyze the shutdown of Firewalk Studios, discussing who bears responsibility for the failure of Concord. Additionally, we dive into the implications of the recent QA walkout at Activision Blizzard and how it's influencing remote work dynamics in the industry. Ubisoft is at it again, launching a new NFT game that shows just how attuned they are to current trends. Lastly, we ponder why insurance companies consistently produce the most memorable TV commercials.
This Week: Dragon Age: The Veilguard is here and is breaking records on Steam, while Black Ops 6 becomes the biggest Call of Duty release yet! Nintendo drops a new music app, giving fans instant access to iconic game soundtracks, and a clever gamer finds a way to dodge future PlayStation Plus price hikes. In less fun news, Sony closes down two studios, including Firewalk Studios the makers of Concord. Lastly, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle makes sure players won't have to harm any canine companions. Join me and our guest, Victor Lucas as we share our thoughts on Dragon Age: The Veilguard and whether stacking 24 years of a PS Plus subscription is a good idea.
Unfortunately, this week is the culmination of a previous problem for Sony, as the company officially decided to put the final nail in Concord's coffin and subsequently close down the studio that made the game, Firewalk Studios, along with mobile game developer Neon Koi. Sean and Marc discuss who should share the bulk of the blame if it means Sony needs to abandon the live service push entirely. Is there a franchise that lends itself to mobile in Sony's catalog? Also, Sean's been playing the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster after never playing the series at all. Is this finally what hooks Sean into joining Aloy on her quest for the Nora? Sean also tried out the Pokemon TCG app. Is this gonna get Sean into collecting all the cards? Marc also finished Metaphor ReFantazio is it his Game of the Year so far? Plus, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 does big numbers in sales, and Xbox Game Pass, Xenoblade Chronicles X has finally been announced for Nintendo Switch, Path of Exile 2 is delayed until December, and would a major return of AA Games save the game industry? You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/gBpoSgAglkUListen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... In this week's episode, Fred has completed The Casting of Frank Stone and moved on to Dead Space Remake, where he's about 5 hours in and on Chapter 4. Meanwhile, Jake is diving into COD 6 and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Plus, we have listener feedback from Prescript_N, who shares his experience from the When We Were Young Festival in Vegas, including sets by Hawthorne Heights and Underoath—throwing us back to the early 2000s emo/punk era.In the news, we discuss the November PS Plus lineup, featuring Ghostwire: Tokyo, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, and Death Note: Killer Within. In troubling developments, QA testers for COD 6 faced demands to return to in-office work, leading to a walkout of around 30 Activision employees citing health concerns.Sony has shut down Firewalk Studios following the release of Concord, as well as Neon Koi, which unfortunately didn't release any games before closure. In lighter news, a PlayStation gamer made headlines for pre-purchasing PS Plus up to the year 2048—dropping over $2k for it. Yeah only after two weeks since its release Concord is shutting down and Sony is refunding all players in an unprecedented move. Why did Concord fail? Was it Sony? Firewalk Studios? Or was it doomed from the start in an oversaturated field of multiplayer live service games. Will this kill Sony's GaAS games as a service ambitions? Will this ruin former PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan and his legacy with failed Bungie, Firewalk, and PSVR2 launches. Okay so with all the negativity we have SOME good news and thats our Astro Bot review with Matt Silversoul on PlayStation Generations and Console Creatures. This week Brett reviews Once Human, an MMO survival game that is a mix of Control and Death Stranding for the story. It also gains influences from The Division, Palworld, New World and many other games to make for a surprisingly compelling and engaging experience. The progression is impressive, the building is expansive, the world is fun to explore and you can jump in and out of the game with friends with no problem. We also share our first look at Concord on PS5. It's a new live service game that PlayStation is pushing. Firewalk Studios is the developer with veterans from Destiny. The game features a futuristic, 70's vibe with a variety of characters in a hero shooter that feels really high-quality but doesn't quite deliver on anything revolutionary. Will it find an audience? We'll see when the game launches in August. After playing the First Descendant, we decided to jump back into Destiny 2 and compare the two looter shooters. They have a lot of similarities but utlimately only one can win our time so find out which one we landed on in this episode.Lastly, Brett reviews a game called Humanity. It's an indie game where you guide a dog around to lead a group of people to this light in the sky. You must creatively maneuver them through the world to get to their destination. It's ok if some falloff, they'll come back. It's a charming, relaxing game that's worth trying out on Xbox Game Pass!Show Notes:1:14- Housekeeping3:23 - Once Human Early Review33:32 - Concord Beta Review: The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly1:05:04 - The First Descendent or Destiny 2: The Battle of Looter Shooters1:37:15 - Humanity Review1:49:27 - Upcoming Video Game Releases Become a part of the conversation!
