Today's podcast: We asked Israel's Ambassador to Canada if he may wish to address the apparent diminution of the decades-long allyship and friendship between Canada and Israel. From statements made by prime minister Trudeau and foreign affairs minister Melanie Jolie, to Canada abstaining from voting on full UN membership for a State of Palestine, to Toronto mayor Olivia Chow refusing to be present for the raising of the Israeli flag on Israel's Independence Day earlier in the week. Chow's office suggested the Mayor believed the raising of the Israeli flag at this time would be too divisive.   Israel's Ambassador has agreed to speak to the current relationship between his country and Canada. Guest: Iddo Moed. Israel Ambassador to Canada. 10 year old Sammy Teusch of Indiana committed suicide May 5 following relentless bullying at school. His parents had pleaded for help from the school administration but remain dissatisfied with the school leaders response/actions. Is the suicide of a 10 year old boy not sufficient for the issue of bullying to spur real and meaningful action on this scourge which takes place at schools (and online)? Then, Memories and impact through life of being bullied as a child. - Are you an adult experiencing bullying now? - Are you the parent of a child being bullied and is it sufficiently worrying you have concerns about how your child may react? We hear stories from our listeners. Guest: Mark Henick. Mental health strategist. Attempted suicide at 15 and his Ted Talk description of that event during which Mark's life was saved by a complete stranger has been viewed millions of times online. CEO Strategic Mental Health Consulting (Toronto). Author: So-Called Normal: A memoir of family depression and resilience. Also podcast by the same name. Sweden's defence minister and military commander-in-chief have warned of possible war involving Sweden (and Russia). Sweden's prime minister has publicly mused about nuclear weapons being placed on Swedish soil during any war. - Norway's military chief has warned of war with Russia within two years. And where does Canada fit into this possible scenario? Both Russia and China have designs on Canada's mineral and resource-rich Arctic. How long could Canada's military defend this nation were we to confront military ambitions by either Russia and/or China?   Guest: Vice-Admiral Mark Norman. Former Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy and Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff. Yesterday I posted to X that Justin Trudeau's standard complaints about Pierre Poilievre are treated as news stories by media when in my view they aren't. The response has been and continues to be extremely strong and with differing perspectives. Today's guest deejay is Henrik Öhberg, AKA, Tvärvägen. I had the good fortune of meeting Henrik through Soundwave guest deejay Petter Lindhagen (listen to Petter's mix here). After each show, I ask my guests who they think would share a mix on Soundwave, and Petter highly recommended Henrik, which led me to listen to Henrick's music for an evening. The experience was everything I had hoped, and I extended an invitation to Henrik, and here he is today with his delightful mix. Henrik's fifth and latest album A Great Circle Route was released in January. The album was picked as New and Notable by the tastemakers at Bandcamp Daily. While A Great Circle Route owes a debt to Steve Reich's American minimalism and the street compositions of Moondog, those influences are distilled through Henrik's unique signature of soft, vaguely Nordic, melodic lines. Tvärvägen began as Henrik's experimental side hustle back in when he was part of the indie act Ironville and hip hop duo Amok. Soon enough, Tvärvägen was his main endeavor. Henrik's been dabbling with post-classical music for string quartet and ethereal soundscapes. His songs have been featured in numerous TV and radio shows, documentaries, news programs, children's shows, and more. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be Mike Lazarev. See you then. Today's guest deejay is Carmen Rizzo. Writing today's show notes was a head trip. Carmen shared his first mix for Soundwave three years ago. That's not a significant amount of time, but it feels like it. That was our first pandemic summer. You never knew if your next visit to the grocery store was going to be the one that exposed you to COVID and could kill you. Three years later and we've gotten along with our lives. Yes, COVID is still a threat, but now it's manageable. Yes, we've all been changed by the experience, but hopefully, we've all grown somehow. That's where my mind went when I thought about what to say for today's show notes. I hope that Camren takes this in the spirit intended. Camrens music has been part of the soundtrack for my pandemic. I was already a fan of his before launching Soundwave, and he was on my list of people I wanted to guest deejay on the show. During that time, Carmen's music has appeared on mixes from other guest deejays and in shows and mixes I listen to on Mixcloud and Spotify. Carmen's music has been a constant presence in my life for the last three years. No words from Carmen on his mix. No playlist. Carmen's mix is personal and lovingly hand selected. You'll have to experience it. I've been listing to it as I write these show notes, and I assure you, you're in for an emotional journey. Join us next week when our guest deejay will be Henrick Öhberg. See you then. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/soundwavemix/message

As rain sets in, a mysterious falcon joins Heppa and Tric in their fight with the Rats. Scene 26 GM Notes Once again, units from the Battle for Wesnoth video game were an inspiration for elements of this arc. The Cuttlefish has an ink attack with the poison quality. Lady Sabine is an Arch Mage. Sleidr is a Thief, and the male portrait of that inspired his look. The fight had many units from both the “lawful” and “chaotic” alignments of the video game. (Elvish units are of “neutral” alignment, by the way, which you will sometimes hear Tric's player reference.) Henrick is a Sergeant, and that determined his armaments. He brought Bowmen and Javelineers with him. On Sleidr's side there were Thugs, Footpads, and the Bandit Efa. Alric's “action mode” is inspired by the Assassin—not that he was ever of that profession! Our character art by Del Borovic and the map we refer to (by me!) can be found here. JUST TALKING Game contributor HenricK The WrecK and Ubisoft Community Development Director, Dan Mitre log into JUST TALKING to smash their video game controllers on the floor frustrated with gaming politics! They're just one life-heart away from the final stage and with 10% energy left can they beat the final boss? In gaming news the U.S. government wants to ban social media giant TikTok because they have concerns over China spying on Americans. Meanwhile Apple Siri, Microsoft Cortana, Google Home and Amazon Echo say— “don't panic, we hear your concerns." The 2023 BAFTA (British Academy Games Awards) are coming up and why should we care? We don't BUT let's press start anyway. Which games do our esteemed panel of gamers nominate? God of War is the Beyonce of awards—multiple nominations but hasn't sealed the deal. Will Elden Ring take home the gold? Totally Turtles dude! It's a sleeper hit on the Nintendo Switch. It's heavy on the cheese but can it deliver the “za” in 30 minutes or less? Voice Acting is getting the recognition it deserves but the competition is tight. Which VO performer takes the trophy in a video game leading role? The best games in 2023 are from 15 years ago! How does the video game industry justify serving stale bread to the fans? Is the nostalgic factor worth the price of entertainment — is there an appetite for these old moldy games? Don't touch it, there are masterpieces in our world that need to be left alone. The Olympic Esports competition will take place in Singapore with games like Just Dance and Tennis Clash while snubbing established tournament franchises like Call of Duty and League of Legends. Gamers say the Olympics are playing it too safe and need to include headshots. Can we uncheck the parental controls—BUT the E in Esports stands for everyone! Even hockey players clean up their act for the Olympic Games! https://www.chriscollinsshow.com/henrick-the-wreck   STRIKE A CHORD Vocalist/guitarist Dan Mitre joins STRIKE A CHORD to discuss his Punk Rock trio band Distortions. Rocking out of Raleigh, North Carolina the band has deep roots in the punk rock scene, the trio quickly established a fan base and position in the music community. Distortions is well known for crazy guitar riffs and an unwavering desire to perform live on stage. Rumor has it, this is how the band survives without food or water—feeding off the communal energy of the crowd. But how did former Bear vs Shark bassist Nick Jones and former Blitzkid drummer Andrew Winter link up with Dan Mitre to form Distortions? Music is medicine for the soul. The trio brings passion and emotion to every track but Mitre admits "you don't really know until you see us live on stage." Their latest EP “Flies” addresses some heavy themes. “We're all battling some form of depression, the demons ripping at our chest but there's hope at the end of the day, we can persevere and we can endure and there is a reason to continue forward.” Community is vital to Distortions. We need to be human. You can't spend every day pretending to be Superman. REACH OUT to people that love you, don't be afraid. That commitment to community also created a record label, Bored to Death Records. Dan's DIY punk rock campaign to offer a platform for independent artists without the pressure and politics of a large music label. Singles or Albums has been an on-going argument on the show BUT which side does Distortions go sideways with? The trio is a force of nature and their latest single “Castaways” is as punk as it gets. We're all just “whimsy hypnosis charming castaways” on punk rock island. Follow, listen and Support: https://distortionsband.com

For all you video game fans let's start off with a video game quiz. Who is Mario's cousin from deep south state Tennessee? As 2022 retires the blinking red light on your xbox it's time for the Video Game Awards Game of the Year 2022. Heavyweight competitors Elden Ring and God Of War Ragnarok go toe to toe while lightweight kitty simulator Stray knocks your controller off the table. Adapting video games into movies has always been a thing since Angelina Jolie motorboated her rack into Tomb Raider. GOTY 2022 now has the Best Adaption category—BUT which nominee will take it—Arcane: League of Legends, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, The Cuphead Show, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Uncharted? WAIT WHAT? There's no Best Horror game category? Clearly the GOTY committee has dropped their controllers on this one. Video Game competition is the Meta Olympics? Zuckerberg has been heavily criticized for an uninspired Metaverse experience but who's stepping up to challenge him? Enjoy past episodes of HenricK The WrecK: https://www.chriscollinsshow.com/henrick-the-wreck Strike A Chord AUSTIN based Bedroom POP duo Solo Solo joins STRIKE A CHORD to discuss their sibling album Pure Graffiti. Greg and John get the show running on the quantum universe road that connects galaxy to galaxy, so what's the deal with the band's name Solo Solo? Maybe Hans Solo had some kids we didn't hear about? Sibling bands are either a hit or a miss. Bands like Oasis, ACDC, Kings of Leon or Radio Head all include kindred band members and family drama, so how does Solo Solo struggle to keep it together? Ticketmaster recently apologized for its ticket debacle with Taylor Swift but responds by saying “it's in the artists best interest.” So if fans can't get tickets how does that affect up-and-coming bands like Solo Solo? It takes just one friend to make a solo audience? Who are your idols? Inspired by Nick Drake, known for his one to two minute tracks, we did a song a week for like 20 weeks. The band's “No Sleep”—“is sort of a short song you want to listen to again.” “At the end of the day the only thing that matters is what comes out of the speakers.” The brothers needed a little help settling on the EP's name. Their lead single, “Rose” is a chill in the heart vibe with a peppery edge—perfect for the Cali dream, driving down a highway with the sun on your back. Making the album Maizy these guys pulled an old Rolling Stones move. They drove up into the mountains and cut an album — kick ass! The Maizy drew inspiration from their manager's dog. The dog's calming Gandhi-like presence helped ease anxiety, allowing connection through the cosmos and barking out the lyrics! WHAT does the lyric “drunken telephoner” mean? It's a reference to Slaughter House 5 by Kurt Vonnegut — is this a dark metal band hiding in the shadows? Special congrats! “It changed our lives.” Whitehall is opening for the Goo Goo Dolls with their “Chaos In Bloom” Tour 2022. “It's a childhood dream come true.” Oooh my-lanta this band knows how to bring bangers!
