Five Go to Cagnes-sur-Mer… Well, they had to, given prohibitive pricing (Monaco v Marseille) and an unforeseen sell-out (Nice v Stade Brestois 29) for contender fixtures. But the five – Alex, John, Young Trafford and special guests Newcastle Dale and Stan By Me – were treated to a decent game when home side Cagnes-Le Cros took on Fos sur Mer in the 4th round of the Coupe de France. Given Dale and Stan's transatlantic base, an American theme wove its way into the game, with a discussion about the MLS and the appearance not just of the enigmatic Alameda Joe but also Shaggy from Scooby-Do. A slick goal by Fos sur Mer sealed the game, but not before John had found a way to impersonate an eagle. Cagnes-Le Cros v Fos sur Mer was recorded at the fragrant Pierre Sauvaigo Stadium on Sunday, 1 October 2023. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/footy-on-the-med/message
Liam Neeson versus everyone. That's what we all assumed coming into The Grey. But we were wrong; to quote Christopher Wallace - DEAD wrong. The Grey is neck-deep in existentialism and big-picture themes that were camouflaged in the initial trailers. PLUS: Corrye's provocative take on Scooby-Do, and Luke brings us another "late to the party" recommendation.

Jaime Jo Wright and I had a chat back in February, and whooeee! Did we have a bunch of fun chatting about her upcoming release, The Vanishing at Castle Moreau? Note: The interview about the book itself really kicks off closer to 23:39, so feel free to fast forward and miss out on all the fun Jaime and I had–um, I mean get to the core of the interview. Mostly. Listen in to see why you'll never sleep in a castle again (or maybe that's just me). Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you! What Is More Terrifying than an Author with a Sharp Tent Peg? Have you ever been on Instagram and watched Jaime Jo Wright's and Pepper Basham's reels where they mock and tease each other? Yeah. Well, let's just say that this interview is an extended version of both–blended together–and all about Jaime and her books. Oh, and Wisconsin bathrooms. And Jaime Jo's bathroom door. And “castle fever” in Hungary. And tent pegs. Just sayin'. Okay, just one tent peg. I guess that plurality was a bit of an exaggeration. There's a whole lot of laughing in this episode, and a whole lot of Jaime Jo putting up with Chautona's weirdness. But that's Christian charity for you, folks. I'm pretty sure she ended up with a few more jewels in that crown after dealing with me. You're welcome, Jaime.
The Fellas take their time getting there, but eventually discuss Scooby Do, marriage trends, bad DJs ruining the night, growing up in the last era of “classic childhoods” and talk a little bit of Halloween, as the day draws near.
Nathan and Noah climb on top of a train late at night to tell each other real life Scooby-Do stories.
Stacy and Eric celebrate National Mac & Cheese Day, Nude Day and Grand Mariner Day; naturally they go on multiple tangents which include MF Doom's recipe for mac cheese and the recipe for Stacy's “fruit crack.” Their convo about classic TV spans from I Love Lucy to Better Call Saul and includes The Simpson's, Seinfeld and Scooby Do; they mention shows faster than you can change the channel! Vance Dingfelder of Dingfelder's Delicatessen and Nourish Catering explains to Eric what Grand Mariner is and shares his recipe for stunning chocolate dipped strawberries. He also shares the trio of salads that rivals his title of Earl of Sandwich. Go to https://dingfelders.com for “The Meat.” Next time, Stacy and Eric talk about their favorite podcasts.

https://linktr.ee/_red_river_podcast This week we got a chance to talk to director B.J. McDonnell about his movie. No worries as far as spoilers, because we kept it very spoiler free so you can go to the theater and enjoy it. This movie is Scooby-Do meets Deathgasm. Its so much fun if you appreciate splatter with your love of metal and horror. And legit comedy. We also touched on his work on Hatchet 3 and Scouts guide to the zombie apocalypse. We wanted to be respectful of his time since on this one but we will definitely be having him back to talk more about the stuff he has worked on. Support indie films that get theatrical releases!

Everyone knows I love a good mystery, so when I discovered that Antony Barone Kolenc had written a youth adventure and mystery series, the Harwood Mysteries, I knew I had to learn more about them. In this episode, we chat about his inspiration for the 12th-century series, the themes of the books, and the many (MANY) awards they've won! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. What Happens When You Mix Fascinating History & Mystery? Great Books! When I discovered that Antony Barone Kolenc wrote mysteries and what they were about, I knew this would be a great episode. Antony writes about 12th century England in what he calls "Harry Potter meets Brother Cadfael" but without the magic. There are supernatural-feeling elements that he describes as Scooby Do-esque. All the appearance of the inexplicable... right up until the story explains them. Full of history, adventure, friendship, and faith, the Harwood Mysteries have everything I love about mystery. No, I haven't read them yet, but thanks to a generous publisher in Loyola, I have an entire set sitting here just taunting me to put them next on my reading list. The first book is also sitting on my Audible account, just waiting for me to listen. The narrator... wonderful so far. It opens with a bang, and I love the writing style. Oh, and speaking of audio... it's that time when families start taking long car trips. What a great way to pass the time, listening to a good mystery. So far, Antony has three books available, but the fourth is coming out soon! I'm so excited about this because he says he has as many as nine in his head. NINE! SQUEE! Something about the series reminds me of my Wynnewood series. CAVEAT: I have not read these books yet, but I have listened to some of the audio. The opening of the book describes a bandit raid which includes fire, a mace-wielding bandit and his victim, etc. I wouldn't play this for younger children without listening first to be certain it fits your family's comfort levels. Antony Barone Kolenc also has a podcast! For families looking for uplifting content, Antony does some of the legwork for you on Shepherd's Pie. As the website says, "The Shepherd's Pie is an uplifting, ecumenical show that airs weekly on radio and podcast channels. With engaging conversations and fun entertainment reviews, we offer positive insights and media resources for families and youth leaders, while we discuss issues that impact young people at home, in school, and in the world today." Shadow in the Dark by Antony Barone Kolenc An attack by bandits in the middle of the night leaves a young boy with no memory of who he is or where he is from. Nursed back to health by the devoted monks in a Benedictine abbey, he takes the name Alexander, or Xan for short. Aided by the kindly Brother Andrew, Xan commits himself to finding out who he really is. Does he have a family? Are they still alive? And who--or what--is the shadowy figure creeping around the abbey in the dead of night? K Hari Kumar, author of novels like "When Strangers Meet", "That Frequent Visitor", "The Other Side of Her" and "India's Most Haunted" and the one who has penned the screenplay for the series Bhram, talks about the Horror genre, dark tourism and more. Ahmed Shariff: Horror! a genre that excites and brings us close to the unknown. It delves deep into our fears and inhibitions and brings to the fore the myths, legends and that dark shade of our creative genius. Today to talk about this genre we are joined by the author of novels like "When Strangers Meet", "That Frequent Visitor", "The Other Side of Her" and "India's Most Haunted" and the one who has penned the screenplay for the series Bhram, K Hari Kumar. Hi, Hari and welcome to DH Radio. Hari Kumar: Thank you for having me on DH Radio. Ahmed: It's great to have you on our show. Hari, my first question to you is: What made you choose horror as your writing genre? What is it about the genre that gets you excited and gets you going? Hari: I grew up in the 90s and feasted on Scooby-Do cartoons, 'Real Ghostbusters' and R L Stine's 'Goosebumps', apart from these there were these periodicals like 'Chandamama' and 'Children's Digest' with had plenty of hair-raising ghost stuff. There was plenty of mythological horror in 'Chandamama' like stories of 'Vikram and Betal' with eerie pictures in the magazine. All those things fascinated me... “I don’t do requests.” Is there someone in your life you wish wasn’t? Maybe a group of people? Or maybe you’re just plain bored? I have a solution—how about taking up…hunting? Sounds like the perfect time for Episode 25 of Pop Art, the podcast where my guest chooses a movie from popular culture and I’ll select a film from the more art/classic side of cinema with a connection to it. This time my guest, writer and film critic, influencer and book reviewer, Hermione Flavia chose the perhaps bit too relevant Arnold Schwarzenegger dystopian action film The Running Man and I chose the pre-code adventure classic, The Most Dangerous Game, both films about men hunting men for sport. And in this episode we answer such questions as: What are the major differences between the films and their source material? Who is the first recorded black person to play a white character in film? Who are the saving graces of each film? What was Richard Dawson’s condition for doing The Running Man? How relevant is The Running Man to the world today? And where does The Family Feud and Scooby Do come in? What is pre-code? And what is it about those fashions? And have a look at Hermione’s blog at wildfiremotionpictures.com. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/howard-casner/support
On this week’s Queue the Banter, Nick and Jared invite guest, Abby Sullivan to talk James Gunn penned, Scooby Doo. Abby brought her own intern, power point presentations, and an explanation into why we need the Twilight movies now more than ever. This episode is a one way trip to Spooky Island. Ruh Roh Raggy. Some Disclaimers: This episode was recorded before the passing of Scooby Do co-creator, Joe Ruby. RIP to legend. At the end of the episode, we mention covering Marvel’s Black Panther down the line. This discussion took place before the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman. Below is our statement regarding Boseman’s impact on film, via Jared’s twitter account: “We must never forget Chadwick Boseman’s impact on cinema and his role as an inspiration to black people across the globe, both young and old. He brought heroes to life on screen, and was heroic off of it.” - @jmrayment Queue the Banter is an ilto 8 production (@ilto8podcasts)

You know times are strange when the future of showbiz is dependent on a movie about Scooby Do. But it sort of is. The animated film "Scoob!" which was destined for theaters is now opening on demand instead. What if it's a big hit like "Trolls World Tour" was? Will it be the death knell for theaters? We also look at what's happening with theaters now open in Norway and Disney's plans to premiere "Hamilton" on Disney+ instead of in theaters. There's a trailer just released for "Unhinged" starring Russell Crowe which has just been released as well as real movies like "Saint Francis." It's an indie about a deadbeat nanny who finds an unlikely friendship with the six-year old she's charged with protecting. Bill Bregoli looks at "Cracked Up: The Darrell Hammond Story" which is a documentary about the SNL stalwart and his troubled past and Neil talks about the HBO series "Run." Plus Bill McCuddy tells us about "Arkansas" which is a thriller starring Liam Hemsworth and Vince Vaughn. There's a lot of show here so listen in!

Witness Report: A a good friend of mine was working in the United States in a town called Aspen Colorado. To cut a long story short, he invited me over from the UK to stay with him and do some boarding in the Mountains while I was there. It was the week before Thanksgiving 2006 when I arrived in Colorado and I found out when I met my friend that the ski area wasnt open at that point sadly. I was pretty bummed out about it but my friend told me not to worry about the lack of boarding as he had bought a snowmobile and we could still get out and enjoy the snow. When he picked me up from Aspen airport Id already seen that he had bought a new big GM 4 wheel drive truck. I stopped at the bend to get my bearings and I noticed someone walking up the path towards me but at a distance of about a quarter of a mile away. I squinted into the darkening evening wondering what I was looking at. At first I thought it was a Bear as 'it' was big and 'it' was moving quickly. Whatever I was seeing moved with a slope of a walk, a kind of a shaggy walk like on the cartoon Scooby Do. I quickly realised 'it' wasn't a Bear. I thought 'it' looked like a big man wearing a large over coat or a crombie coat with the collar turned up.Would you like to become a member of our BBR Investigations group and help us to investigate cases like these, or join our free community and keep in touch with like minded people in the UK and world wide. Jerky, jerk, jerks! Let's talk about this type of character… This topic is based on Banes' newspost from Thursday, he based it on characters like Reggie from the Archie comics. Jerks can be pretty good characters in their own right. They can be villains, heroes, antagonists or protagonists, they can even be unintentional jerks like Scrappy do from Scooby Do, Alf from Alf, or Jar Jar Binks from that horrible movie he was in. My favourite jerks are Flashman from the Flashman novels by George MacDonald (you should read them!), Blackadder (particularly the second season), and Zaphod Beeblebrox who I'm cosplaying in the cover pic. Who are your fave and least fave jerks? Gunwallace's musical theme was for The Epic of Blitzov. It's Riff based hard rock, driving beat, heavy, distorted guitars layered over and over with a thunderous yet lyrical lead floating over the top. Orange and black sound. Beginners. My children love Scooby-Do. I love Scooby-Do. In fact, I have not met a person who does not like it. The happy gang of friends consists of: Shaggy, Scooby, Wilma, Daphney, and Freddy. They travel around in the 'Mystery Machine' and get into scary escapades. During their adventures, they meet monsters, ghosts, and other creepy creatures who they must try and escape from. It's not too scary, most of the time. The villains always turn out to be people who are dressed up. At the end of each episode, one of the gang unmasks the bad guy. There is always a happy ending. I was a child in the '70's, so I also used to watch the series. And the style of that era is still seen in the dress and music of the famous five. Of course, there is a lot of humor. Shaggy and Scooby-Do are cowards who will only get involved in an investigation if they get 'Scooby snacks'. They eat enormous amounts of food whenever they can, even strangely combined foods, like chocolate covered corn on the cob! Scooby-Do is definitely a staple cartoon for my children. If they fight or are grumpy, I put one of the videos on, and suddenly, everyone is happy. Grammar notes. Verbs: To meet (meet, met, met), to try (try, tried, tried), to unmask (reg.), to eat (eat, ate, eaten), to fight (fight, fought, fought). Related vocabulary: gang, mystery, escapade/adventure, episode, era, famous, to get involved, coward, investigation, staple. Advanced. So, what's new Scooby-Do? Have you come across any villains today, maybe a headless snow monster, or a slimey zombie called Creeper? No? Oh, so business is slow, huh? I heard that you solved a mystery last week. It made the headlines. The mayor of a small town decided to stimulate the economy by dressing up as a ghost and terrorizing the townsfolk. It worked. Tourism took a big leap. But a bunch of meddling kids uncovered the scoundrel; he was thrown in jail, and all the recent tourist business unraveled. I admire the skills of your group. You all seem to have the most amazing running abilities. When being chased by monsters, you very rarely get caught. And somehow, you find yourselves running through the longest hallways that I have ever seen. Fifteen doors, outside of each a small table with a plant pot, is the record, I think, that Shaggy and Scooby have run past, before they find an escape. Wow. You must eat a lot of carbohydrates to keep up that pace. Well, yes you do, don't you? I know of a few pharmaceutical companies that would love to bottle your light speed metabolisms. Well, if I hear of any hauntings or scary tourist booms, I'll give you a call. Grammar notes. Related vocabulary: Villains, scoundrels, zombies, mummies, ghosts, mystery, headlines, unravel, ability, escape, carbohydrates, pharmaceutical, metabolism. Verbs:To take a leap. Exs: He took a giant leap over the wall. The company's business took a big leap. She took a leap of faith and asked him to marry her. To find oneself....Exs: I found myself alone, in the rain, with no transportation. They find themselves in great difficulty each time they use the car. He told me the end of the story; I would like to find it out for myself.
