Today, Kristin talks with Wendy Kay a wedding planner and educator from Birds of a Feather Events and E3, all about pricing tiers as a wedding photographer in 2024. They talk about each tier, how to price accurately for the tier you're in, and what it takes to move up as you grow in your business. Wendy shares her advice and experience as a planner and coach and shares valuable insight into some of the ins and outs of reaching those luxury wedding goals as a wedding photographer. Thriving on creating something from nothing, Wendy welcomes the creative challenge and complex logistics required to (literally) build an event from the ground up. From design conception to collaborating with the creative team and directing the day-of execution, Wendy respects each stage of the wedding planning process, considering the journey just as important as the destination. A former television producer, Wendy transferred her talents from directing live TV to weddings. Over a decade since creating Birds of a Feather events, she continues to lean on her problem-resolving skills while remaining quick on her feet on event days. Named a Top Wedding Planner and Event Designer by Martha Stewart Weddings and Best Wedding Planner in America by BRIDES, Wendy really is an “Idea Machine.” Whether cozy interiors, artful window displays, or wizardly worlds, Wendy uses her love of set design as inspiration to translate the stories of her clients through unexpected details. Wendy's clients connect to her calm demeanor, sharp wit, and surprising knowledge of pop culture. A diplomatic straight shooter, she guides her clients through potentially sticky situations with transparency, tact, and, most importantly--humor. Today, after 14 years of owning her own planning and design business, much of Wendy's time is focused on educating other vendors on best business practices to transform their own businesses through honesty and “tough love”. When not taking care of business, you'll find Wendy on the couch watching Ru Paul's Drag Race with her husband and four cats: Monkey, Kitten, Bobbi Newport, and Pooter. Kudos' Chief Customer Officer Tom Short is an employees-first entrepreneur. In the last 25 years, he has founded several successful companies, all of which have employee experience as their cornerstone. In his current role, he is invested in advocating for employee recognition over rewards — favoring the long term effects of recognition on well-being and motivation over the short term “object perks” of rewards. Tom Short is the Founder of Kudos Inc., where he oversees business development, sales and marketing. Tom has founded numerous, highly successful, companies including Idea Machine, which was recognized as one of the top ten interactive agencies in Canada, which he later merged with Rare Method to create the largest independent interactive agency in Western Canada. Under Tom's direction Rare Method was ranked as one of the fastest growing organizations in the Canada by Profit 100 Magazine several years running and as one of the top 50 small to mid-sized employers in Canada by the Queen's School of Business, Queen's Centre for Business Venturing and Hewitt Associates. At each organization Tom built, employee engagement was front and center as the key to building effective teams and successful companies. Kudos was the direct result of this philosophy and was a systematic way to build a systemic culture of appreciation. Today Kudos is quickly becoming a leader in social recognition and changing how companies around the world engage their team's – one thank you at a time!Tom's Profilelinkedin.com/in/wtshortWebsitekudos.com (Company)TwitterKudosNowwtshortBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched! Middle Grade Author PJ Gardner joins Queries, Qualms, & Quirks this week to discuss coming to writing late in life, how querying is like boxing, writing as a calling, how promoting for MG is different from promoting for YA, querying with old data, taking big risks but expecting safe results, and how the success goalposts always move. PJ Gardner has never met a talking animal, but that hasn't stopped her from writing about them. She's the author of the middle grade Horace & Bunwinkle series and her next book, The Great Zoodini comes out in early 2024. I wanna talk to you today about becoming an idea machine. I've heard a couple of coaches recently talk about the fact that if you're in the online coaching business, you are paid for stories and I don't necessarily think that that is true. I think that when you can become a great storyteller, it is super, super helpful. Why? Because people by based on emotions, and if you can tell a great story, you can help somebody feel. And so that is definitely an element, but it's not the story. It's the idea. And I believe that as entrepreneurs, it is our job to be coming up with new ideas that we can then tell stories about every single day.Highlights 03:24 Where is your creativity?04:33 How to generate new ideas06:03 Own being an idea machineQuotes“As entrepreneurs, it is our job to be coming up with new ideas that we can then tell stories about every single day. ”“Having a regular practice around creating new ideas is really, really freaking important. f you're looking to improve your productivity, business plans, or even your mental health, you'll want to tune into today's episode where I share how I constantly generate ways for my business to tell stories and let my brain “off the leash.” You can make intentional space for your brain to do what it does best: generate new ideas out of seemingly unrelated things. You may be thinking “I don't have ideas. Creativity is not my forte.” If you've been following the show, you'll know that EVERYONE is a natural storyteller; it's outside obstacles that get in the way of unlocking that new level in your mind. Understand that trying to force your brain to come out with an idea by a certain deadline will CRUSH your creativity. This is why people's best ideas come out of the shower. Learn today to create a clutter free space in your brain; it needs the breathing space to be bored. Worry less about optimizing every moment of your time for productivity and instead practice two simple, easy steps with me to become a creative idea-pumping, super brain machine. Be brave enough to try it for two weeks, and watch your thought process transform. 3 Key Takeaways Stop saying creativity isn't your forte. EVERYONE is a natural storyteller and can be taught to use it. Taking mental space will not only improve the business but also can help to heal personal anxiety. Be brave enough to try taking 30 minutes out of two days to meditate or free associate. You'll be amazed at the results. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: A Visit to the Idea Machine Fair, published by Étienne Fortier-Dubois on June 3, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. With love to all the intellectual movements depicted below. You hear the buzz of a thousand conversations as you enter the convention center. The building is one of those weird postmodern complexes that is somehow both ancient Greek and brutalist. It looks as if the architects couldn't agree on a single style, or even on what the point of this building was. A fitting venue for such an event. You get your badge from the registration desk. It comes with a bunch of goodies in a tote bag. A pen, shaped like a hammer, with the slogan “IT'S TIME TO BUILD.” A voucher for vegan food at the cafeteria. A QR code to register your attendance on a blockchain. A watch that just tells the current year, with five digits: 02022. A slip of paper that says, “Instead of giving you a cheap keychain or whatever, we have donated part of our convention budget to GiveWell.” There's also a map of the convention. At the top it says WELCOME TO THE FIRST IDEA MACHINE FAIR. You look at the layout of the main exhibition hall. You don't have that much time, so you'll only visit the stalls you're most familiar with as a heavy Twitter user: Rationality Effective Altruism Progress Studies The Sovereign Charter City of Good Governance some amorphous cluster of booths that is charted as The DAO-verse Archeofuturism Metascience. You look up from the map, past the Art Nouveau / ancient Egyptian / 1960s modernist doors of the main hall. So many brilliant minds are in there, discussing what could be the most influential ideas of the near future. You walk in. An idea machine, according to Nadia Asparouhova, is a subculture or a community that forms around an ideology in order to achieve some outcome. Idea machines are wider than movements (like YIMBYism), but not as wide as paradigm shifts (like crypto as a whole). But also, no one knows what an idea machine exactly is, or which real-life idea machines exist, or what the boundaries between them are. This convention is meant to clarify all of that. You're not sure it's helping. You stand in the alley between the Rationality and Effective Altruism stalls, listening to some guy in basic shorts and a gray t-shirt explaining the differences between the two to a few visitors. “See, rationality is about thinking well. Whereas EA is about optimization to do the most good. The focus is different.” “But what's the point of thinking well?” someone asks. “Isn't it so that you can do good?” “And how do you optimize for good,” someone else says, “if not by thinking well?” “I mean, sure, there's a lot of overlap,” the gray t-shirt guy says. “But they're distinct communities. You could say that EA was born from combining rationality and the work of a bunch of Oxford philosophers. Rationality didn't come from Oxford philosophers. See, big difference!” You turn your attention to the Rationality table. Two nice but slightly awkward guys start giving you books. “Yeah, the best way to engage with rational thinking is reading the main texts,” one of them, a long-haired man wearing a space-themed leotard says as he hands you a nicely bound collection of essays. “Rationality: A-Z by Eliezer Yudkowsky is the main one. But a lot of people, myself included, have been introduced to us by a Harry Potter fanfiction: Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality. It's long but really good.” He gives you a custom printed paperback. “This is the first fifth of the story or so. You may also want to read some essays by Scott Alexander.” He gives you another pile of papers. “Oh, we have a bunch of copies of Superintelligence to give out too, if you want to know about AI risk.” He reaches beneath the table and adds a book with a picture of an owl to your pile. “There are more boo...

Getting to a startup idea worth starting is active, not passive. The idea won't just show up - you'll need to find it. And it likely won't be the first idea you've got. The way to get a great startup idea is to get lots of startup ideas so you've got context and practice. The way to get lots of startup ideas... well, that's what the episode is about. The three pillars of getting lots of good startup ideas. Tacklebox

Feeling creatively stymied? Lacking excitement with your work? Maybe you should take a brief break to indulge in pure idea creation. No pressure to make a finished product or deal with the complexities of bringing an idea from spark to sharing. It's basically tapping into the Force, but for creatives, not Jedis. (You still have to practice to get good at it, though.)
From the outside it often looks as if the dominant factor that determines whether someone achieves their careers goals or not is luck (And you all know how I feel about “luck.”) From an insider's perspective, having helped hundreds of people successfully make career transitions, I believe luck is simply when their hard work intersects with the right opportunity. And this intersection is no accident when you have the right strategy. One of my favorite aspects of the Optimizer coaching & mentorship community is the relationships that are built when students support each other to pursue work they feel most passionate about. When Optimizer students Nick Towle and Fabian Corrado originally came to me, neither one of them knew each other. But they both knew they were tired of the jobs they had, they felt stuck after trying for years to make a seemingly impossible career change, and they were ready to do anything to get on the right path. Nick Towle had been an editor in reality tv and transitioned to the scripted world as an assistant editor (AE). He was finding plenty of regular work, and he even had the opportunity to cut in addition to his AE duties, but he couldn't seem to land his first full-fledged scripted editing gig. Nobody was willing to give him the experience…without already having the experience. Fabian Corrado was working successfully as an Assistant Editor in the trailer industry but felt unsatisfied and unfulfilled, and he knew he wanted to make the jump to scripted. He worked hard and spent many years climbing his way up the wrong ladder and felt stuck and trapped doing a job he no longer loved. If you too are struggling to make a career transition, you feel stuck in a dead end career path, or you cringe when you think of networking, this episode will help you get unstuck and think of networking in a whole new light as you learn the strategies that both Nick & Fabian used to land huge career-changing opportunities (and ultimately work together on the same show!). Want to Hear More Episodes Like This One? » Click here to subscribe and never miss another episode Here's What You'll Learn: Fabian started his career in EPK trailer houses but after 5 years wanted to make the transition to scripted. How Fabian got connected with me and the Optimize Yourself program. Fabian describes what it was like for him to 'hit the wall' in trailer editing. Nick was an editor in reality tv and transitioned to scripted television as an assistant editor. Nick talks about what motivated him to look for the Focus Yourself program. Fabian explains the importance of uncovering your purpose and determining what career path is going to be most fulfilling. KEY TAKEAWAY: Networking strategy is all about planting the right seeds. Fabian was juggling two jobs while trying to do Focus Yourself. Nick balanced raising a 3 year old while working through the program. The story of how Fabian connected with an editor on his dream show. Nick describes how he had to make the psychological switch in his own mind to see himself as an editor. Why Fabian made the decision to walk away from a full-time job to do a 3 week freelance job. The financial component to having the freedom to turn down work that isn't the right fit. What made Fabian stand out amongst other qualified assistant editors to get his dream job. When filmmaker Paul Del Vecchio reached out to me six months ago, he had a successful career as a high-end commercial editor, director of photography, and colorist. He had climbed to the top of the ladder in his corner of the world - the trouble was that he was at the top of the wrong ladder and didn’t want to be there anymore. How did he end up there like so many others do? Simple - Paul said yes to practically every opportunity that came his way his entire career, an answer driven largely out of fear. He found that every time he tried to pursue his true calling of writing and directing, he had nothing left to give his own projects because he gave all his mental, physical, and creative energy to other people’s projects. In fact, Paul struggled so much to get into the rhythm of writing again that he convinced himself he had run out of ideas. Here’s a Slack message that Paul sent me recently after working through his many fears and obstacles in my Optimizer coaching & mentorship program: Not bad for a guy who was burned out and “out of ideas.” So how did Paul become an absolute productivity ninja? We talk all about the strategies he implemented in todays episode including: Alleviating his financial fears of not being able to afford saying no to the wrong jobs (which was total BS he was making up in his head) Implementing a system of external accountability and financial management to have confidence he could turn down the wrong projects and focus on the right ones Building in new daily habits to help reignite his creativity that would inspire him to go back to writing again (a habit he had all but given up on). Paul’s ideas are now abundant and he's no longer "busy" doing everyone else's work, but rather he's productive and focused on his own work. Paul is here today to candidly and honestly share his story and tell you in his own words the steps he took to turn his career around and rediscover his own creative flow so if you’re stuck in a similar place you too can get back on track. Want to Hear More Episodes Like This One? » Click here to subscribe and never miss another episode Here's What You'll Learn: How Paul's obliger tendency led to him climbing to the top of the wrong ladder. The key mindsets Paul implemented to begin making changes in his life. The film contest that Paul won but didn't bring the opportunities he hoped for. How Paul began to create his own opportunities. Paul’s reaction to his own words played back to him about how stuck he was 6 months ago. Paul admits to skepticism in the beginning of the program but decided to trust the process and see what happens. KEY TAKEAWAY: The smallest of steps lead to big changes. How Paul uses accountability to keep himself writing and working towards his goals. The finance system that allowed him to let go of his fear and feel confident about saying no to jobs he didn't want to do. KEY TAKEAWAY: Saying yes to something means saying no to many other things such as time, freedom and creativity. Paul was terrified of beginning the outreach process in the Advanced Networking program. Paul shares the secret to not feeling like you are bothering people when you reach out to them. Paul describes his experience of writing, sending, and getting a response to his first outreach email. KEY TAKEAWAY: Make your outreach emails easy to respond to by asking if you can ask a question. What Paul learned from a connecting with a director via cold outreach. Why asking for advice is not the best way to get the most valuable information from people. Paul reflects on the changes and progress he's made over the last 6 months of being in the Optimizer community. Paul's advice for anyone wanting to make a change in their life. If the topic of Machine-as-a-Service (MaaS) is new to you this conversation covers the model in detail. Michael Cromheecke is the CEO of Steamchain and he unpacks this exciting new approach to industry. Essentially it is a business model that uses the data from the machinery to establish a contractual relationship. In traditional business models OEM's build equipment to a designed set of standards and once the solution is running the manufacturer owns it from there. In the MaaS model end users are funding desirable outcomes of the asset. OEM's benefit in this model also as they can establish recurring revenue streams tied directly to machine performance. Their partnerships strengthen with the businesses they support as they have monetary incentives to reach premium efficiency of a given asset throughout the life of the equipment. When improvements are found and implemented both the manufacturer and OEM will reap the rewards.Mike is extremely passionate about this topic and feels it could be a new way for manufacturers and OEM's to grow in the future. This is an exciting idea and one that we hope will help business owners and leadership as they think about the future of capital assets and meeting market demands. “If you don’t give yourself permission to create a new world, chances are nobody else will.”James AltucherThe dystopia is here.Chaos, confusion, fear and anger. Horrific racism. Generations of pain fueling rioting and violence. Death and illness. Faltering systems and leadership failures. Market crashes and jobs lost.Communities are divided. Home lives are disrupted. Meanwhile, cities all across America are literally on fire. How we can right the ship? Deal with these cataclysmic shifts? And move forward productively? We can crash and burn. Or we can adapt -- a remaking of society that begins with personal reinvention.James Altucher is a virtuoso of this process.A prodigious intellect and abundantly talented polymath, James is a comic, chess master, entrepreneur, investor and prolific writer with over twenty books to his name, including the Wall Street Journal bestseller Choose Yourself. He's also a fellow podcaster and an unconventional thinker with an idiosyncratic lens on pretty much everything from creativity to finances.James and his writing have appeared in major media outlets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The New York Observer, Techcrunch, and The Financial Times. His blog, JamesAltucher.com, has attracted more than 20 million readers since its launch in 2010. And The James Altucher Show regularly appears in the top 100 podcasts on iTunes. On the subject of self-experimentation, James' latest unconventional move was releasing his latest self-published book, Think Like a Billionaire, on Scribd. Most compelling is James' relentless devotion to constant reinvention. Making his fourth appearance on the podcast, today we explore the importance of this trait and the habits that enable you to adapt and thrive in rapidly changing times — more critical now than ever.Recorded pre-pandemic in mid-February, this conversation is the last in my stash of episodes banked before quarantine.Nonetheless, I suspect you will find our discourse highly applicable to our current moment -- packed with tactics and strategies you can deploy to better acclimate to the rapidly changing circumstances that face us all. It's about how to make better decisions. And ultimately, how to create opportunity out of calamity. The visually inclined can watch it all go down on YouTube. And as always, the audio version streams wild and free on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.James is one of my most favorite people. He’s a natural and gifted conversationalist, his ideas are easily deciphered, and packed with the perfect amount of humor and data-backed insight. To some degree, we are all being called to reinvent ourselves right now. May this conversation help serve that process.Peace + Plants,Listen, Watch & Subscribe Apple Podcasts | YouTube | Spotify | Stitcher | Google PodcastsThanks to this week’s sponsorsFour Sigmatic: Nutritious and delicious mushroom brews and elixirs made with only the highest quality adaptogens and easy to take on the go. The Learning Leader Show With Ryan Hawk For more details text LEARNERS to 44222 Full show notes can be found at www.LearningLeader.com #365: James Altucher - How To Become An Idea Machine "Vulnerability equals freedom." "You need to say something interesting. You need to step outside of your comfort zone." James started writing in 1990 after a girl he liked chose to date a writer instead of him. He wrote 3,000 words a day and yet didn't publish anything for 12 years. Why write about your flaws? Watch the movie 8 mile... "Eminem shares all of the negative aspects of himself. He left his competition with nothing to say about him. He beat him to the punch." "I don't hit publish unless I'm worried. Am I afraid? If yes, then publish." "All good writing has to have a story." Commonalities of people who sustain excellence: Physically healthy - They are in shape Emotionally healthy - They have good relationships They are extremely curious - "Ken Langone came in my comedy club and asked tons of questions. He's so curious." They are very creative They have a "ready, fire, aim" approach - Sara Blakely started Spanx and got a $300K order and hadn't figured out how to manufacture her product yet. Creativity/Idea generation is a muscle - If you don't work it, it atrophies. Write 10 ideas a day. Quantity is more important than quality. "He who has the most ideas wins." You'll have a lot of bad ideas. You have to get through those to get to the good ones. Quantity is important. "Writing 10 ideas a day changed my life. I wasn't depressed anymore." Write ideas for companies and share with them... They might call you. Being an "intrapreneur" within your company - Think of ideas that can help your company and share with the CEO. "Success is always on the other side of can't." Great entrepreneurs focus on reducing risk How to speak to powerful people? Realize they are just people Humor is key. "Laughter is the way to level the playing field." Developing a skill - Deliberate practice The "10,000 Experiment" rule The key to getting good is to experiment Be in the top 1% of doing experiments Work your idea muscle every single day - The neurons will be re-wired Share your ideas to help other companies Over-promise AND over-deliver. Do both. Everyone else under-promise with the hope to over-deliver. Don't do that. Overpromise upfront and over-deliver.
Successful People are subject to the same failures and setbacks as everyone else, it is just that they do not interpret the failures as deadend and they don't give up. They have built capacity to harness the tools and resources from their experiences. Idea Machine Become an idea machine. Everyday when you wake up or during the day when you feel right begin the habit of becoming an idea machine meaning take out a pen and paper and write down as many ideas as you can possibly think of. These can be lists they can be ideas they can titles all that matters is you learn how to warm up your idea muscle and you make a concrete habit of working you idea creation part of your brain. This is a habit creativity and creative problem solving wouldn’t it be incredible if when ever you had a problem your brain would already be ready to flex its creative idea muscles to give you answers to solve your problem. So every day write down or record your self coming up with as many ideas as you possibly can and become an idea machine. When the author Hemingway had to come up with a title for one of his books he would begin a list of as many titles that came to mind soon as he was unable or had enough titles he would begin to remove all the ones he did not like sometimes even all of them. Hemingway would do the same act some times when he was trying to write the ending to his books he would write as many endings as he felt necessary and then he would eliminate the ending he didn’t like and when he couldn’t decide he would ask his friends to help pick the best ending to some of his books. When creating ideas its important to not be judgmental or put limitations on your ideas you need to be free to create and push your idea machine to its limits like you were weight lifting so every day work your idea machine to its limits and you will find you the creative genius you ideas you are looking for. The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast
Claudia Altucher | The Power of No | Become an Idea Machine | Yoga Show Notes: http://ryanrhoten.com/claudiaaltucher Today I welcome to the BRAND New You show Claudia Altucher. Claudia is a writer, podcaster, speaker and a teacher of Yoga. She has three books to her credit. Her first book is called “The 21 things to know before starting an Ashtanga Yoga practice”. Her second book she co-authored with her husband James Altucher is the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Best Selling book “The Power Of No”. Her latest book, “Become an Idea Machine” is an Amazon best-seller in the Entrepreneurship and Consulting categories. Claudia writes for national media outlets such as the New York Observer, Thought Catalog, and Positively Positive and in her spare time she runs a very successful blog at Claudiayoga.com which has attracted over 2.5 million visitors. At claudiayoga.com you'll find her thoughts and philosophies on all things yoga including her posts, how-to yoga videos and of course her podcast aptly named, The Yoga podcast. You can learn yoga directly from Claudia every Friday morning at 7 am EST when she teaches a FREE 30' YOGA CLASS LIVE via Periscope . If you follow her on Twitter @ClaudiaYoga you'll get the periscope link sent directly to you in your twitter feed every Friday morning so you can join in and follow along. Help me welcome Claudia to the BRAND New You show. POWER OF NO Since a big part of yoga is learning about the power of calming the mind the topic provided a natural transition to Claudia's book, The Power of NO (affiliate link) which loosely aligns with the 7 seven spiritual laws of yoga. In the book Claudia and James break down the word No into 7 different levels starting with the everyday No's as they relate to relationships, jobs or your health. From there they progress to the No inside us. The one that holds us back and can keep us from becoming our true authentic selves. The final chapters are about the No's deep inside each of us. The silent Nos. The ones at our courtroom which wisdom flows. For all seven of the No's Claudia and James offer practical, simple but not easy exercises to help you get to the point where you can use the power of No to help you make significant improvements in your life. BECOME AN IDEA MACHINE Sprinkled throughout the Power of No you find the seeds for Claudia's book Become an Idea Machine: Because ideas are the currency of the 21st Century (affiliate link). Claudia and I start our discussion on becoming an Idea Machine by exploring the concept of an idea muscle. The idea muscle is a figurative muscle but acts very much like the other more tangible muscles in our body. The example she provides to help you visualize the idea muscle will make you believe the idea muscle is real. If you doubt this try this simple test. Take a few minutes right now and write down 10 Apps you'd like to use that have not yet been invented. Go ahead. I'll wait. If you're like me you'll find when you reach idea 5 or 6 you'll get stuck. As Claudia says this is the time when your idea muscle is starting to sweat. You'll be tempted to quit but in order to be successful you have to push through this initial resistance. To help you push past this Claudia suggests instead of listing out 10 apps, list out 20. That's right, she's hard core about this because she knows how effective it can be. If you want to change your life every 180 days start writing down 10 ideas a day. Claudia even provides you with topics for the first 180 days. This is a great book that will definitely make you think. And I mean that literally. SUMMARY The best ways to get in touch with Claudia to learn more about her Yoga practice, her podcast or purchase any of her books are listed below. Web: Claudia Yoga YouTube: 7 Back pain relief Twitter: @ClaudiaYoga Periscope: @ClaudiaYoga You can also ask Claudia any question you want about Yoga, the power of No or becoming an idea machine by using the contact button on her website. The email goes to directly to her and not an automated service.Claudia leaves us with these final thoughts to consider. “Do what you know you need to do right now. Whether it's to be physically better, emotionally better, exactly what it is matters less doing whatever it is. Follow and trust your own inner wisdom."

Moe and Claudia Azula Altucher discuss the power of getting the mind in top shape and how to build your idea muscle daily.
Claudia is a writer, podcaster, and teacher of yoga. She is the co-author of the Wall Street Journal bestselling book "The Power Of No" (HayHouse 2014) and author of "21 Things To Know Before Starting An Ashtanga Yoga Practice". Most recently on January 8th 2015, Claudia released her new book called Become an Idea Machine: Because ideas are the currency of the 21st Century. This book has become a favorite read of mine and also part of my daily routine. Also in January 2015, Claudia created a new podcast series called The Yoga Podcast after co-hosting a favorite podcast of mine Ask Altucher (with 206 episodes released as of Feb 8th, 2015). During our interview, Claudia opened up about a number of topics that had always fascinated me: What is it like to be producing content all day, everyday, across social channels and engaging with your audience? How does Claudia energize and sustain her creative power while working as a multi-disciplined entrepreneur? (To put things in perspective, Claudia now has over 54,000 fans on Facebook, nearly 7,000 followers on Twitter and over 2.6 million views to her blog ClaudiaYoga.com since inception. She is also very active on Quora and Clarity.) "Money can run out but ideas cannot. When you constantly generate ideas, you become unstoppable." - Claudia Azula Altucher After reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Maria Kondo just a few weeks ago, Claudia and her husband James threw away 25 years worth of personal belongings. She recalled, "We threw away 60 enormous garbage bags and the living room has been clean every since. It has a profound effect on the mind and everything you do. You gain a new way of seeing things." One immediate connection I found between Claudia and I is the practice of yoga. ClaudiaYoga.com is her official yoga portal where she discusses teaching, retreat and she encourages anyone to "ask way". To untangle the benefits and hype surrounding yoga today, Claudia is most interested in making yoga practical and accessible to people. She believes that it is a responsibility for those who practice and teach yoga to get it down to what is useful. Little did I know that some elements in The Power of No are based on the seven levels of yoga starting from the most basic light energy. This book helps you understand what is a compassionate no, how to say no to news coming from the outside, and eventually "you’ll be freed to say a truly powerful Yes in your life—one that opens the door to opportunities, abundance, and love." The most difficult thing to do is saying no without explanation. Become an Idea Machine is a great follow-up. Claudia's new book helps exercise and motivate people (individually and as a team) to gather and become creative problem solvers. Monkey mind doesn't have an off switch so it is important to channel our energy into something positive. Life begins to change and transform by itself when we become atomic idea generators. My favorite and also the most unforgettable moment during our interview is Claudia's advice, a universal message for wome --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/support
How do you transform your life? The answer is simple. Come up with 10 ideas a day. Every day. It doesn't matter if they are good or bad; the point is to exercise your idea muscle, to make it sweat. Today James talks with Claudia about her brand new book,Become an Idea Machine: Because Ideas Are the Currency of the 21st Century. People say ideas are cheap and execution is everything, but that is NOT true. Execution is a consequence, a subset of good, brilliant idea. And good ideas require daily work. As Claudia explains, coming up with 10 ideas a day is very important. Ideas may be easy if you are only coming up with one or two, but if you try to produce more than three, you will feel a burn, scratch your head, and you will be sweating and working hard. There is a turning point when you reach idea number six for the day, when you still have four to go, and your mind muscle is getting a workout. By the time you list those last ideas to make it to ten, you will see for yourself what "sweating the idea muscle" means. When you practice every day your life will transform... Life changes for the better when we become the source of positive, insightful, and helpful ideas. Challenge yourself to try it for 180 days and see your life transform, in magical ways, in front of your very eyes.
