As an artist, QUARA AHNYA has never limited his outlook, experimenting with different sounds to express himself. That commitment to diversity in music has helped keep him in tune over the years. His music reflects personal and professional maturity. "When I first started music I was a boy with no real-life experience. As I grew into a man I learned more about life and the struggles and happiness that love can bring. By incorporating my life lessons, I used my lyrical ability to create my unique sound. Which brought forth smoother melodies because it's coming from years of gained wisdom," he said. From East Kingston, he started his career as Ras Ikan . His early influences were a mix of lovers rock (Dennis Brown, Beres Hammond, Half Pint, Maxi Priest and Sanchez), and Dancehall (Capelton, Anthony B and Sizzla). Two years ago, he changed his stage name to Quara Ahnya, Hebrew for Call I. His songs, like No One and One For You, shows Quara Ahnya's willingness to appeal to different audiences by recording lovers rock ballads."What I am doing is singing about authentic love which speaks life into people That is roots in itself, bringing forth love and positive vibrations," he said. Possessing a silky yet grainy, versatile voice, singer Delroy Melody has been playing his trade for 50 years. Born Lassive Jones, he began his career in late 60s trio The Schoolboys, with Lawrence Weir (brother of the Jamaicans’ Norris Weir) and one Jacob Miller (who would lead Inner Circle). Not to be confused with Prince Buster’s namesake child ensemble, The Schoolboys recorded the fast-reggae sides Guilty Of Love and Oh Tell Me for producer Bunny Lee. Guilty Of Love would be refashioned by Miller as Love Is A Message at Coxsone Dodd’s Studio 1 and Keep on Knocking for Augustus Pablo. In the 1970s, Delroy Melody went solo, cutting debut Tears for Bob Mac’s Abeng label. Six years later he voiced roots anthem Dread Must Be Fed for Dickie Wong’s Tit For Tat Records (written by his friend, drummer Sly Dunbar, in response to Haile Selassie’s passing). The song got a makeover for soundman Emperor Marcus, crowning his 1979 collector’s LP of the same name. Like his close comrade, Jamaicans member, Errol “I Kong”, Mr Melody experienced the vicissitudes of the Jamaican record business. The Dread Must Be Fed album was released abroad without Delroy seeing any royalties, while Marcus served jail-time for herb. The following year, Ease Up The Pressure - a remake of Dennis Brown’s Easy Take It Easy for Ruddy Williams - was repurposed in 1980’s infamous election and banned by the radio. Again like I Kong, Delroy retired to the St Elizabeth countryside during the slackness era, where he and his wife have been happily self-releasing via their Level Head Music label. Lately, he has branched out to European imprints: reissuing Ease Up The Pressure and Dread Must Be Fed on France’s Jamwax Records; and updating 1986 Harry J hit Buss Shot for Glasgow’s Scotch Bonnet Records’ Puffer’s Choice compilation. https://unitedreggae.com/articles/n2331/013018/interview-delroy-melody-part-1

Reggae artist Eric Donaldson was born in Kent Village, Jamaica, on June 11, 1947, and launched his music career in 1964 when he recorded some tracks for Studio One in Kingston, which have remained unreleased. Shortly thereafter, Donaldson formed the vocal outfit the West Indians along with Leslie Burke and Hector Brooks. The group hooked up with producer J.J. Johnson, who helped guide the group to a hit in 1968, "Right on Time," before recording for Lee Perry a year later; they changed their name to the Killowatts shortly thereafter. But the name change failed to ignite the group's career and they eventually split up after such obscure releases as Slot Machine and Real Cool Operator. Donaldson decided to continue to pursue music on his own, which led to him submitting an original composition, "Cherry Oh Baby," to the Festival Song Competition in 1971. The song took the top spot at the competition, eventually being issued as single and becoming a local hit. The song would reach a wider audience when it was covered by rock artists, including the Rolling Stones (on their 1976 Black and Blue release) and UB40 (1983's Labour of Love). Donaldson continued to issue albums -- including such releases as Miserable Woman (1972), What a Festival (1973), and Freedom Street (1977) -- among others, and has taken the top spot at subsequent Festival Song Competition's as well in 1977, 1978, 1984, and 1993. Donaldson runs the Cherry Oh Baby Go-Go Bar in his hometown of Kent Village.

RASMORGAN DETAILS RasMorgan is a roots rock reggae and dancehall artist with his unique style. His first single, African Girl, is an upbeat ode to the women of our ancestral homeland of Africa, where the single is still generating great waves from its pre-release. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica as the last of 9 siblings in the Morgan family, Ras Morgan subsequently migrated to Canada at the age of 17 in 1993. The move marked an exciting new chapter in his life so he focused on taking advantage of the educational and financial opportunities that Canada had to offer. His first love was music, however, therefore Ras Morgan never gave up his dream of a career in music. Although he has never released his music before African Girl, Ras Morgan has been involved in the Canadian Reggae music scene for quite some time. He has assisted other well-known artists and even hosts a weekly radio show on www.rootzreggaeradio.ca. In 2017 Ras Morgan decided to take his love of making music to the next level and by the end of the year, he had produced the single African Girl with an accompanying video, which is currently trending on YouTube.

ALL SONGS MENTIONED IN THIS INTERVIEW CAN FOUND AT Sycorah youtube channel or purchased from Sycorah music Sychora is a singer, songwriter and poet with a distinctive smooth soulful Lovers Rock sound. On the show, we will be playing some of her popular songs as well as discussing her journey into the music business. Reggae singer-songwriter Sycorah has just released the first single and official video for, "Skin" (2017), from her forthcoming EP, “Rustique Energy,” which is set to be released in 2018. “Skin,” is produced by Delroy "Phatta" Pottinger from Phat Trax Records in Jamaica. He also produced her recent release, “Undercover Lover” (2017). Her distinctive smooth soulful Lovers Rock sound can be described as reminiscent of Lauryn Hill, with a strong delivery compared to Diana King. She was born Simone Samantha Daley to former teacher Desmond Daley and Singer Barbara Brown. She is the second of four children and was raised in Kingston 11, Jamaica. Her music career began in 2009, with an introduction to legendary Reggae producer Bobby Digital. She recalls, “Bobby Digital said I had a 'fresh sound,' and we started working together that very same night in the studio.” She enjoyed working with Digital, and went on to complete her first single, "Satisfy You" (2010). It was brought to life on the airways by radio disc jockey Mighty Mike. The song played over the Tantric Rhythm on Irie FM. Sycorah is inspired by her parents. Her late mother was the Dancehall artist known as Sneaking Rachel. She managed Sycorah’s music career until she died. Her last words to her daughter were, "You're going to be a star." Sycorah also carries the words of her father, who continues to be a forceful influence for her success. His motto of encouragement to her is, “If you believe in something hard enough, you will achieve.” In 2009, she recorded two dubs, "Healing," and, "Your Fingers." These were released in 2010, by producer Mikey Brooks on the Coptic Lion Record Label. She changed her name to Sycorah, which reflected her decision to pursue a professional music career; she says she felt compelled to reinvent herself. Sycorah later went on to work with Ernie Wilks on a single called, "Keep It on the Low" (2010), on the Rude Boy Rhythm under his label Mistawilks Productions. She explains how "That song is a tribute to my life in the employment environment. I must tell you, it was very rough as I searched for work to support my music." She also worked with producer-singer Elijah from Switzerland on a single called, "Tell Me How You Feel.” While Sycorah is working on her forthcoming EP, she is also in preparation for an upcoming tour. You will certainly be hearing more of this distinctive voice in 2017 and beyond! Sycorah youtube Sycorah music

Today I have very fun, cool and special guest – Zeb a/k/a Jamey Dakofsky who is the drummer for Tribal Seeds.   Zeb is from L.A. and has been playing drums since he was 8 years and old and by age 10 he was gigging in a punk and classic rock. All the while playing with various musical ensembles, working on Timpani, hand percussion and full drum set.   He attended the performing arts high school in California and by age 20 he was backing his first Reggae artist Mikey Dread H.R. from Bad Brains hand drumming specialist Ras Michael when came back to the states, his career skyrocketed.   He has worked sessions with Grammy award winning songwriters such as Diane Warren (Aerosmith and Leann Rimes) and worked with top producers such as Ashley Ingram (Des'ree), Randy Jackson and Fabian Cooke (“Lion King” Soundtrack).   In 1994, he helped form Detour Posse which has since become the premiere backing band of International Reggae artists from around the globe. Working over 250 shows a year, sometimes he even plays more than one bill on the show (like he did it the night I saw him live with Tribal Seeds, he also played with Fortunate Youth).   In 2011 Zeb performed with Grammy winning artist Shaggy on the Lopez Tonight and again in 2012 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.   I had the chance to see Zeb live first hand several weeks ago. They were playing with Fortunate Youth, and Pepper. The Jannus was packed to the gills and it was one of those hot, hot, humid evenings, and you'd never know it as they rocked the audience all night long.   Zeb was gracious enough to grant me an interview. I was so excite to meet him, because I've been listing to Tribal Seeds for about the past three years now and was really digging their sound. So, to get to watch Zeb play the skins was a real treat. Peter Tosh, OM (born Winston Hubert McIntosh; 19 October 1944 – 11 September 1987) was a Jamaican reggae musician. Along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, he was one of the core members of the band The Wailers (1963–1974), after which he established himself as a successful solo artist and a promoter of Rastafari. HOW did the internationally known Jamaican icon and reggae singer, Peter Tosh — second only in fame to the legendary Bob Marley — really die? And, after the impact of his brutal murder hit the local and foreign Press, what other sensation could one have imagined the blood-thirsty killers had in mind, when they also massacred, in one sitting, well-known broadcaster and disc jockey, Jeff Dixon, o/c Free I; and another man, known as Wilton Brown? And, to add spice it seemed, to the whole movie-like script, the common-law wife of Tosh, Marlene Brown; the wife of Free I; and visitors Michael Robinson and Santa Davis, survived to re-visit this bloodcurdling tale. But not before Marlene Brown went through agony, as at first blush, it was thought a bullet had lodged at the back of her head. She went, as Jamaicans would say, “to death's door”. Mr Justice Patterson (later appeal judge) and a jury heard all about this tragic story in the No 1 Home Circuit Court in 1988.It was a story that would be followed well beyond the shores of this beautiful Caribbean island. Winston McIntosh, known to his legion of fans as Peter Tosh, the 'Stepping Razor', was part of the trio the Wailers — the other being Neville Bunny Wailer Livingston and Robert Nesta Marley, known to the world as Bob Marley.http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news/The-night-Peter-Tosh-was-killed

Alpha Blondy, from the Ivory Coast, is an artist known as much for his rich rhythms as for his carefully penned lyrics, which often touch on heavy issues of African and African Diaspora politics, as well as Old Testament religious topics, which he writes about from something of a Judeo-Christian Universalist perspective.  This album, recorded in 1986 with Bob Marley's backing band, The Wailers, was his first to really make waves on the international music scene.  It is an album that focuses heavily on religion, tying together the common histories of Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and Rastafarianism, and finding the goodness in each, as well as looking at the way they interact in the political world.  Though it's now over 25 years old, this album is a timeless one, to be sure.#rio2016 #alphablondy

White's brother Doraney was a member of The Techniques, and the duo hung out at the Techniques rehearsal premises on King Street, becoming friendly with Roy Shirley, who helped them to get started in the music business. They recorded their debut single "I Need Money" for producer Sir JJ at Linden Pottinger's studio, but when it failed to make much impact, they moved on to work with Lee "Scratch" Perry, recording "Tighten Up" (twice, it was originally recorded at WIRL, but re-voiced at Studio One). They released a further song for Perry, "You Know What I Mean", but dissatisfied with the attention they received from Perry, moved on to Joe Gibbs. With Gibbs, they recorded tracks such as "Take Back Your Duck", "La La", and "The Train is Coming".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_London_%28reggae_singer%29 copyright 2015 caribbeanradioshow.com 661-467-2407 caribbeanradioshow@gmail.com

Born and raised in Spanish Town in Kingston, Jamaica Lutan's initial influence of African consciousness was instilled by his grandfather Tamba, and his spiritual identity is rooted in Rastafar-I, Bobo Ashanti. Musically speaking, Lutan was heavily influenced by all four of his grandparents. One of his grandmothers, Ms. Esmay, was the very first to teach him actual range levels in singing, however both grandmothers were known to be powerful singers. One of Lutan's grandfathers (Tamba) owned and played one of the very first Rumba Box instruments which still remains in the family today and he also played the harmonica, of which he eventually gifted to Lutan when he was a young boy. When Lutan was a teenager, both of his grandfathers hosted weekly parties on their lawns--affectionatelly coined the Tamba Harmony Hall and the Ackee Wackee Hall--at which friends like Coxsone Dodd who lived nearby, Joe Gibbs, Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, Alton Ellis, Hortense Ellis, Stereograph, Jah Love, Wasp, Volcano and many other reggae legends would be present, enjoying music and/or playing dominoes. His grandfather Tamba also owned a sound system, the then popular Black I-niverse of which Coxsone Dodd used to share music with and in those times you might have seen Lutan playing the sound and blowing a few amps as well.  Musician and Author Tena Williams A.K.A. “Lady Flava” began singing in her church choir as a little girl in Jamaica and continued when she migrated to the United States at the age of 10. She began writing songs at the age of 16. Reggae, R&B, and Rap. Tena began recording professionally in late 2006. Holt was born in Kingston in 1947.  He recorded his first single in 1963 with "I Cried a Tear" for record producer Leslie Kong, and also recorded duets with Alton Ellis. He achieved prominence in his home country as lead singer of The Paragons and they cut a succession of singles for Duke Reid at his Treasure Isle Studio and enjoyed a string of hits, including "Ali Baba", "Tonight", "I See Your Face", and the Holt penned "The Tide Is High" (later made famous by Blondie and also covered by Atomic Kitten). "Wear You to the Ball" was another of his hits with The Paragons, and hit the charts again when U-Roy added a Deejay verse to it. During his time with the Paragons, he also recorded solo material for Studio One (including "Fancy Make-up", "A Love I Can Feel", "Let's Build Our Dreams" and "OK Fred") and Prince Buster ("Oh Girl", and "My Heart Is Gone"). Holt left the Paragons in 1970. By the early 1970s, he was one of the biggest stars of reggae, and his "Stick By Me" was the biggest selling Jamaican record of 1972, one of a number of records recorded with producer Bunny Lee. His 1973 album, Time Is The Master, was successful, with orchestral arrangements recorded in London. The success of the string-laden reggae led to Trojan Records issuing a series of similarly arranged albums produced by Bunny Lee starting with the 1,000 Volts of Holt in 1973, a compilation of Holt's reggae cover versions of popular hits (and later followed by similarly named releases up to 3,000 Volts of Holt). 1,000 Volts spawned the UK Top 10 hit "Help Me Make It Through the Night" (written by Kris Kristofferson), which peaked at number 6,[2] and included covers of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are" and "Touch Me in the Morning" by Diana Ross. http://en.wikipedia.org

Selector Dubee discovered a passion for the stage at an early age. In the fifth grade he played Demetrius in his schools production of A Midsummer's Night Dream. Coming of age in the 80s presented a great outlet for that desire to entertain. Captivated by Hip-Hop culture and its musical score, he started break-dancing at 15. Thus began his search for a medium where he could marry a great stage presence and love of music. Dubee spent his college years in the Green Mountains of Vermont, performing in the Johnson State College theater and hosting a weekly radio show. These days were still all about the hip-hop...After a stint on the lively scene in Burlington, Vermont - a very music-friendly community, he linked up with Infinite and rocked the local club and party scene, using the closeness of family and the power of music to feed the hungry little city. "DJ Dubee" opened for artists including Raekwon, Ghostface Killer, Capadonna, and Black Moon.Infinite was rich with wisdom and bestowed on Dubee a connectedness that he really needed. It was through his new family that Dubee aligned himself with a true sound system, and is forever grateful to Clint, Universal and the whole Retribution Crew Sound, Brooklyn, NY.Always a crowd-pleaser, Dubee loves to create an excellent vibe, and it became imperative to deliver a powerful message with the music. Max Romeo (born Maxwell Livingston Smith, 22 November 1947, St. D'Acre, St. James, Jamaica is a reggae and roots reggae recording artist who has achieved chart success in his home country, and in the United Kingdom. At the time of release of his infamous "Wet Dream" in 1968, Romeo had already had several hits with the vocal trio the Emotions. Romeo left home at the age of 14 and worked on a sugar plantation outside Clarendon. In 1965 he joined up with Kenneth Knight and Lloyd Shakespeare in The Emotions, whilst also working as a record plugger for Ken Lack's Caltone label. The group were unsuccessful in auditions for other producers, but Lack offered them an audition after overhearing Smith singing to himself while working. In 1966, the group had their first hit, with the Lack-produced "(Buy You) A Rainbow". The Emotions went on to release several hit singles and by 1968, the singer, by that point known as Max Romeo, launched a solo career.  Romeo returned to The Emotions, now recording for Phil Pratt, and founded a new band, The Upsetters.1968 saw the breakthrough in Romeo's career, when he wrote "Wet Dream", a song that became a massive hit in Jamaica. The track was banned by the BBC Radio in the UK due to its overly sexual lyrics, although the singer claimed that it was about a leaking roof. Nevertheless, "Wet Dream" became a Top 10 hit in the UK. PAUL ELLIOTT, INTERNATIONAL REGGAE ARTIST.BRING CULTURE MUSIC TO THE WORLD. Jamaican born  Paul Elliott's expressive vocals and growing catalogue of reality songs make him a natural successor to seventies' reggae greats such as Marley, Tosh, and Burning Spear .. artists whose music has lasting relevance, is grounded in the Rastafarian tradition, and speaks to people of all nationalities.  Paul's debut album, Save Me Oh Jah, containing hits like Import Corruption and Seek Jah Blessing. A second album, Meaning Of Life, arrived in 2001, and was again mainly self-produced. Songs like True Love, Psychological Warfare, and How Does It Feel demonstrated how his music had broadened in scope, whilst remaining true to its roots reggae foundations. This same compelling mix of soulful vocals, powerful messages, and authentic rhythms can be heard on his latest album, 21st Century, comprised of 15 original songs, and co-starring Richie Spice, Daddy Rings, and Mango Seed. His debut Album "When Words Take Life" has a roots rock sound, mix with a combination of strong vocal over melodic drum and bass. It is, the true, ghetto experience, all blended in harmony .
