#266 - Breaking The Spell Through Music w/ Grant "Prezence" Ellman

Alfacast

Those of us who survived the 60s did have one invaluable take-away ... culture follows music.  While powerful anti-establishment lyrics did temporarily redirect the war industry, so we thought, those tumultuous times we're orchestrated to plant insidious seeds for a larger psyop that would later reveal itself. On this Alfacast we have a delightful musical talent making waves through music, but with eyes wide open.  Grant ‘Prezence' Ellman is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer from Sedona, Arizona. His 2021 truth-bomb dismantling the SCAM of “covid” and “government” was censored from Spotify within a week of release. Prezence is fiercely devoted to his mission of spreading TRUTH, FREEDOM and LOVE through radio ready records, vivid videos and lucid live performances. His studio work is completely self-produced, mixed, mastered, shot, edited and promoted, with a true DIY ethos and work ethic. On stage, Prezence captivates audiences by live looping multiple instruments, singing soulful vocals & live mixing — "dubbing" his loops. His innovative Ableton Live rig pays homage to dub pioneers King Tubby & Lee "Scratch" Perry as well as modern dub masters Umberto Echo and Laurent “Tippy I” Alfred. With heavy inspiration from the modern reggae of Midnite, Protoje, Jesse Royal, Kabaka Pyramid, Grant weaves elements of funk, jazz and rock into a sonic tapestry that is uniquely, and undeniably, Prezence. In just one false election cycle, he's released three albums worth of singles, videos to boot. His empowering energy has graced main stages at Rise & Vibes, Unison, Music & Sky, Totality, Viva Iriezona, Anarchapulco, The Greater Reset, where he's supported the likes of Steel Pulse, Tribal Seeds, Kabaka Pyramid, The Elovaters, The Movement, Mike Love and Dub FX — just to name a few. Prezence is grateful to have found his life's purpose making music and sharing that gift with others.  Please join this episode as we have an insightful discussion on the present state of our world, and if we're lucky, Prezence just may entertain us with an inspiring tune. In this episode of The Free Thought Project Podcast, Jason and Matt sit down with the talented and inspiring Grant "Prezence" Ellman, a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and vocalist from Sedona, Arizona. Grant's music and activism embody a rare blend of soulful artistry and deep philosophical reflection. Known for his dedication to truth, freedom, and love, Grant's music challenges the status quo and spreads empowering messages that resonate with anyone seeking a better, freer world. Grant's 2021 track dismantling the COVID and government scams was censored from Spotify within just one week of release, further highlighting the uphill battle faced by artists who dare to challenge mainstream narratives. His self-produced music has graced events like Anarchapulco and The Greater Reset, and he's shared stages with icons like Steel Pulse, Tribal Seeds, and Mike Love. With influences ranging from modern reggae to dub pioneers, Grant has crafted a sound that's uniquely his own—blending deep messages with unforgettable melodies. In this conversation, we explore the troubling symbolism and toxic ideas found in much of mainstream music today—things like promoting materialism, treating women poorly, and glorifying violence. Grant shares his insights on why artists like Sam Smith lean into satanic and dark imagery and contrasts it with his own mission to inspire peace and love through his art. We also dive deep into the story of Ross Ulbricht, as Grant has been an outspoken advocate for Ross's freedom. He explains why this issue is so close to his heart and how artists can use their platform to amplify messages of justice and liberty. To top it off, Grant treats us to an incredible live performance of his song, “Taxation is Theft.” Trust us, you don't want to miss this—his lyrics and energy are as powerful as his philosophy. This episode is a must-listen for anyone who values music as a vehicle for truth and transformation. Tune in and let Grant's words and music inspire you to see the world—and its possibilities—in a whole new light. Joined by Larry Holcomb and Joe Watkins on guitars, Will Barkley on drums, and Michael Dorsett on bass and keys, Matt Irie leads what is described as "island infused-Funky Blues." They draw on their diverse backgrounds, bringing together influences from bands like Beastie Boys, Dr. John, Howlin' Wolf and Incubus, and finding themselves sharing the stage with the likes of Pepper, Rev Run, Morning 40 Federation, Badflower, Ludacris, Jelly Roll, Kellie Pickler, Tim Reynolds, Larry Keel, Kottonmouth Kings, The Green, Stick Figure, Tribal Seeds, and Motionless in White. An adventure in progress, as we all are, Cassie Cichocki prides herself on her ability to create space for others to feel safe, supported, and secure. As a freelance writer and meditation teacher living in Nashville, she's able to put life's experiences, both good and bad, into words that allow people to feel understood, and gives others the opportunities to look at their own stories with curiosity instead of judgment. A former blogger for Chicago Now, the online subsidiary of the Chicago Tribune, Cassie first went viral for a post about...tampons. Little did she know that her blog about being a self-proclaimed hot mess would quickly become a go-to source for people who didn't know how to put their own experiences into words. Her current blog, solongasitiswild.com, is a space for fellow adventures in progress to show up exactly as they are. There's no such thing as good vibes only in her world, and she wants people to live life as fully as possible, no matter what their history may be. Cassie lives by the words: “I see you. I hear you. I get it. Me, too”, and that comes across in her writing. An advocate for making therapy accessible to all, Cassie is passionate about changing the narrative around mental health. When not working or volunteering, she can most often be found with a book in hand; logging miles, hiking mountains, and contemplating the musings of herself and others. (She also quotes her therapist way too often, but she'll save that for the blog.) with musical guest Tomboyce Avenue Singer-Songwriter Nilda "DADA" Cantil Lampitoc aka Tomboyce Avenue is a full-blooded Filipino, born and raised in a Tropical Country of the Philippines, Island of Luzon. She now lives in San Diego, California and is working as a Medical Professional. Tomboyce Avenue highly believes that "MUSIC IS MEDICINE". In July 2020 Tomboyce Avenue released TAKE ME BACK featuring Corrick Watson of THROUGH THE ROOTS, K-Skunk (Kaya Hall) Bassist of SENSI TRAILS/ Frontman of STRICTLY SKUNK and Maria Connors. TAKE ME BACK is a song Tomboyce Avenue wrote about how she feels as half musician and as a half medical professional with the current situation about the COVID-19 pandemic and about Black Lives Matter. The song was produced by E.N Young of Imperial Sound Recording Studio; Roots Musician Records and former Keyboardist of the band Tribal Seeds. Tomboyce Avenue Band consists of Dada Lampitoc (Lead Vocals, Acoustic Guitar), Maria Connors (Keyboard, Trumpet, Vocals), Alex Bellafaire (Bass Guitar, Saxophone), Chris Dadey (Lead Guitar), Chris McDonald (Drums) and Daniel Hall (Percussions, Vocals). We are here to share as much positivity as we can through our music. The band often plays to open up for Filipino musicians touring here in USA. She opened up for Jireh Lim, Geneva Cruz, Shane Ericks, Carol Banawa, Juan Karlos, December Avenue and international artist Stephen Speaks. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/hikingmyfeelings/support

When I learned that Stick Figure would be headlining with Slightly Stoopid and Pepper this summer at the Vinoy Park in St. Petersburg, FL I knew I had to meet up with them and catch their show.   Kevin Offitzer is here today. He is the drummer with Stick Figure. If you're not familiar with Stick Figure, it was formed by frontman Scott Woodruff, a native from Duxbury, Massachusetts who has been portrayed as a one-man-band. Scott began recording a series of albums under the moniker of Stick Figure, he would sell tens of thousands of copies of each of his self-produced releases exclusively by word of mouth and social media, all tracks of which were recorded solo with Woodruff laying down the tracks one by one. The current live band line-up features Kevin Offitzer on drums, Tommy Suliman on bass, Kevin Bong (K-Bong) on keyboards and Johnny Cosmic on Guitar. The band has toured with Rebelution, Dirty Heads, Collie Buddz, The Green and Tribal Seeds. Their album Set in Stone Vinyl Edition is a double album set and has special features with On November 13, 2015, the group released their sixth studio album, Set in Stone.  It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and spent 78 weeks there.  The 14-track album includes collaborations with Eric Rahmany of Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Kbong and Collie Buddz.    Kevin's Drum Set Up: DW Collectors Series Maple Kit with a custom finish by Scott Walker.  22k/10/12/14/16 toms, a 6.5x14 Mapex Black Panther Snare, 14" LP Brass Timbale, Zildjian Cymbals K Series, Vic Firth Sticks 55A and Remo Drumheads.   Kevin also discusses: His first job. What he would do if he wasn't a professional drummer. How he's played in over 50 bands. The opportunities he had as an in-house studio drummer. How he stays healthy and fit while on tour and so much more.       Our interview takes place live at the Vinoy Park right after their sound check.  So get out your headphones, turn off the distractions and enjoy the interview.           If you would like to check out some Stick Figure tunes, you can  check them out here Stick Figure Music be sure to pick up the collectors item on Vinyl.  It's still the best way to listen to music.           And, be sure to stay in touch with Kevin and Stick Figure: Kevin Instagram Kevin on Facebook StickFigure Instagram Stick Figure Facebook   Please don't forget to subscribe and leave a review as it would mean the world to me.  Be sure to stop at www.lildrummergirl.com for the live in-person video of his interview and a clip from the show.   Rock On & Rock Out!   Dawn-Marie Mutell XO

He is the tour manager for Louis the Child and just returned home after being on the road for eleven weeks with the crew. With his line of work he tries to lead by example, make sure the entire operation runs smoothly and most importantly he likes to be the person that brings everyone together to make them family. With just a few years shy of a decade of being on the road, Mike Trueblood has learned a lot about himself. Being raised in the Northeast and dealing with the seasonal weather has helped shape him into who he is today. The cold winters make places such as LA feel like paradise. He spent a year a half at Roger Williams College in Rhode Island playing baseball and quickly realized this wasn’t meant for him so he took a year off from school to see what he could do next. The timing couldn’t have been better because his friends Carter (Episode 58) & Dave were sending him records of their early music, Mike would give them feedback and they would soon form a group by the name of AER. In the beginning of AER Mike was just a homie there to help out and drive them to music videos in his mothers Toyota Highlander or one off shows. He was adding value in anyway that he could not because he was looking to get paid but because of the genuine friendships and believing they had what it took. As the group started to gain success he stepped in as their official Tour Manager and was driving all over the US with them. Eventually it led to him working with Hoodie Allen, Tribal Seeds, Chef’Special, Our Last Night, The Knocks, Lauv and now today Louis the Child. In this episode Mike discusses realizing how important it is to take care of his health, his passion for people and wanting to bring the best out of them, hitting a crossroad and how he was able to get through it, if given one token to call anyone to thank who that would be, appreciating what you have vs what you don’t have, not dwelling on the past so learn from it and keep moving forward, grab hold of something that interests you and see where you end up. — You can follow Mike here: Instagram: @TruebloodMichael (https://www.instagram.com/truebloodmichael/) Twitter: @TruebloodMike (https://twitter.com/truebloodmike) Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for new interviews (and more) weekly: http://bit.ly/2zprpon Follow us on Soundcloud: http://bit.ly/2hcSBws Subscribe to iTunes: http://apple.co/2yE0u9l Follow us on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2j82AHF Follow Bobbbaaaay on social media: Instagram: http://bit.ly/2Ap24ce Twitter: http://bit.ly/2hj6Ljm

Today I have very fun, cool and special guest – Zeb a/k/a Jamey Dakofsky who is the drummer for Tribal Seeds.   Zeb is from L.A. and has been playing drums since he was 8 years and old and by age 10 he was gigging in a punk and classic rock. All the while playing with various musical ensembles, working on Timpani, hand percussion and full drum set.   He attended the performing arts high school in California and by age 20 he was backing his first Reggae artist Mikey Dread H.R. from Bad Brains hand drumming specialist Ras Michael when came back to the states, his career skyrocketed.   He has worked sessions with Grammy award winning songwriters such as Diane Warren (Aerosmith and Leann Rimes) and worked with top producers such as Ashley Ingram (Des'ree), Randy Jackson and Fabian Cooke (“Lion King” Soundtrack).   In 1994, he helped form Detour Posse which has since become the premiere backing band of International Reggae artists from around the globe. Working over 250 shows a year, sometimes he even plays more than one bill on the show (like he did it the night I saw him live with Tribal Seeds, he also played with Fortunate Youth).   In 2011 Zeb performed with Grammy winning artist Shaggy on the Lopez Tonight and again in 2012 on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.   I had the chance to see Zeb live first hand several weeks ago. They were playing with Fortunate Youth, and Pepper. The Jannus was packed to the gills and it was one of those hot, hot, humid evenings, and you'd never know it as they rocked the audience all night long.   Zeb was gracious enough to grant me an interview. I was so excite to meet him, because I've been listing to Tribal Seeds for about the past three years now and was really digging their sound. So, to get to watch Zeb play the skins was a real treat. His speed, chops, stamina and agility rocked the house.   Zeb's currently is endorsed by Super Natural Cymbals and Kick Port International. His set up is Pearl Prestige Session Drum Set Select Kit  and Pearl Hardware, Roland SPD-SX, Toca Special Edition Congas, LP Bongos and hand percussion and Pro-Mark 5B Oak Sticks.   Zeb's interview will be already in progress as it was the evening of the show and there may be some background noises as we were in the Green room. 74 - Reggae Lover Podcast - Top reggae bands of all time, not including the Wailers. I curated some of the biggest hits from legendary bands: Third World, Israel Vibration, Inner Circle, Aswad, Black Uhuru, and Steel Pulse - groups who have presented fabulous reggae music performances and recordings for nearly half a century. Third World is a Jamaican reggae band formed in 1973. Their sound is influenced by soul, funk and disco. Although it has undergone several line-up changes, Stephen "Cat" Coore and Richard Daley have been constant members. Steel Pulse are a roots reggae musical band, from the Handsworth area of Birmingham, England, which has a large number of Afro-Caribbean, Indian and other Asian migrants. They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School - composed of David Hinds (lead vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (lead guitar, vocals), and Ronald McQueen (bass); along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums. Steel Pulse were the first non-Jamaican act to win the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Black Uhuru are a Jamaican reggae group formed in 1972, initially as Uhuru (Swahili for 'freedom'). The group has undergone several line-up changes over the years, with Derrick "Duckie" Simpson as the mainstay. They had their most successful period in the 1980s, with their album Anthem winning the first ever Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 1985. Aswad is a long-lasting British reggae group, noted for adding strong R&B and soul influences to the reggae sound.[2] They have been performing since the mid-1970s, having released a total of 21 albums. "Aswad" means "black" in Arabic. Inner Circle are a Jamaican reggae group. The group was originally called The Inner Circle Band and formed in 1968. The band achieved major success in the 1970s with Jacob Miller as their lead singer, but split up after his death in 1980. They reformed in 1986 and had a major hit with the 1987 song "Bad Boys", which serves as the theme song for the long running Spike (formerly Fox Network) television program COPS.[1] They are also well known for their song "Sweat (A La La La La Long)," a big hit in the U.S. in the early 1990s. The band is known for blending pop and rock with reggae. Israel Vibration are a reggae harmony group, originating from Kingston, Jamaica. Lascelle "Wiss" Bulgin, Albert "Apple Gabriel" Craig, and Cecil "Skelly" Spence all overcame childhood polio, and went on to be one of the most successful roots groups to form in Jamaica in the 1970s. The trio initially met as children at a rehabilitation center. I would also want to make mention of bands like Fab 5, UB40, Big Mountain, SOJA, Tribal Seeds, Raging Fyah, and there are and have been 1000’s of musical ensembles that dedicated themselves to pushing the reggae music envelope.
