When Rich Wheeler shows up, shit gets weird. I'm kidding. I stole a version of that verbiage from a Facebook post from a few months back. A musician that had just gigged with Rich wrote it with high-praise-worthy intentions, and I loved the heck out of it. So, Mr. Wheeler was kind enough to lend me a portion of one of his Saturday afternoons not too long ago, and I was clumsy enough to screw up the video portion of our conversation, so...audio-only it is. And thank the heavens that I didn't botch that portion of the thing, 'cause this chat was next-level. Rich just might be the sharpest dude I've chewed the fat with so far, and believe me -- there've been some sharp ones. I really enjoyed learning a little bit about him, his experiences, his horn-playing savvy, not to mention a few of his favorite albums, which were these:McCoy Tyner's The Real McCoy (1967)Nude Ants (1980), Keith JarrettMaceo Parker's Life on Planet Groove (1992)Blackstar (2016), David Bowie Rich jams, gigs, and records with a number of folks around town. You can find him on such releases as Live at Jardine's by the Brandon Draper Quintet. He's in tight with the Draper Family Band, he's currently working on a project with Jackie Myers. He gave Blue Note Records props, which is aces in my book. He's a huge Joe Henderson fan, and he just might be the dopest tenor-sax player in the region. Many thanks to Rich, and much love to all of you who support Badass Records.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the audio samples contained in this episode. Titres interprétés- Love in Time Live RFI + voir vidéo RFI - Fire Eater, extrait de l'EP Fire Eater voir le clip - Side To Side Live RFI + voir vidéo RFI. Line Up : Days aka Racecar, voix ; Fabien Sautet, batterie ; Gregory Hector, basse ; Martin Smith, guitare ; Benjamin Des Gachons, clavier ; Laurent Dumont, saxophone baryton / flûte ; Gaël Fajeau, trompette.Son : Benoît Letirant et Jérémie Besset.► Album Running The Way / Ep Fire Eater (Office Home Rds / The Pusher 2023). Roforofo Jazz sera à l'affiche de la 16è édition du festival Au Fil des Voix, le 27 janvier 2023, au 360 Music Factory, Paris.

Mike and I had a great time talking to Soul Jazz Keyboardist Robert Walter about his high school band Daddy Long Legs, his current band: The Greyboy Allstars and what it's like being on tour with Pink Floyd's Roger Waters.     Robert is heading back on tour in March 2023 with Roger's band for the European leg of the tour. About Robert: A founding member of the seminal groove band The Greyboy Allstars, organ, keyboard and synth sharp-shooter Robert Walter splits his time between his own 20th Congress, The Greyboy Allstars, and a robust film soundtrack career in Los Angeles.   Initially formed as the backing band for rare groove luminary DJ Greyboy, The Greyboy Allstars became a longterm project for Walter with a string of critically acclaimed albums, world tours. The band quickly became home to some of the most revered players on the modern music scene.   The Greyboy Allstars' success also served as a platform for the band's individual members to launch highly successful and substantially diverse solo careers. To flex his desire to compose in a way that was just outside of Greyboy's wheelhouse, Walter formed 20th Congress and recorded and toured heavily through the late '90s and '00s.    The band featured a rotating crew of brilliant improvisers and genre-bending virtuosos over the years including Stanton Moore, Joe Russo, Will Bernard, and Cochemea Gastelum, Simon Lott, Victor Little, Chris Alford, Scott Metzger, Andy Hess, and John Kimock,   A brilliant improviser with a gift for riveting hooks and unstoppable grooves, Walter set out to create songs that blur the line between the composed and the spontaneous; an album with a narrative arc that isn't tethered to concrete ideas. He uses a full arsenal of keyboards, synths and electronics and draws together the varied aspects of his career, from his film soundtrack work with Michael Andrews to his free-ranging improvisational excursions with the likes of genre jugglers like Marco Benevento, Skerik and Mike Gordon. ******** KNOW GOOD MUSIC can be found on Podbean (host site), Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Iheart Radio, Pandora and almost anywhere you listen to podcasts.     Visit our YouTube Channel where you can see 3 short video segments from our interviews.  Just search "know good music". When I told my good buddy in Maine that I was preparing to do a Badass Records Podcast episode with Adam Wilke, he asked me to let him know when it dropped as he'd always considered today's guest as something of an "exotic mystery," and when I heard that, I thought he'd nailed it. Or at least I could see how someone who'd only met him once would say that. Now, though...things're different. Now, I've had Adam Wilke in the chair, and -- I gotta tell ya' -- I consider myself a lucky dude for having had this opportunity.I've always wondered if and when jazz would work its way into my life, and were it to, would it stay. I still swim around in that same lake of curiosity, but I feel closer to it now. Its depths seem less unknown, its waters once murkier. I feel compelled to depart from the single-Sonos-in-the-kitchen situation, to return to the exploration of a household sound system. The notion of filling multiple rooms with jazz rattles around in my brain, suggests the added perk of education.Anyway, Episode #33 -- or as I like to call it, The Zdeno Chara episode -- was really fun.Adam's had a fascinating go of things, and once you've had a listen, I think you'll agree: We gotta get this guy giggin' again! But before I get ahead of myself, it's important to own the fuck-ups, first. Long story short, a camera crapped out on me (again), and I skipped one of my guest's records (again). And I had to figure out a way to be okay with it so that the show could -- as they say -- go on. So, that's what I'm doing.I hope I've figured out a way to avoid SD cards frying out on me for now, and I need to be a little more careful with my preparation approach, but even if I iron out those wrinkles, I'm certain to make errors in other ways down the road. It's an imperfect thing, this process, when you're the one doing it all. And none of those goofs or gaffes make the thing any less fun or cool (to me), so...gotta roll with it.Adam and I examined the following records, though:Ellington at Newport (1956)Monk Plays Ellington (1956)Full House (1962) by Wes MontgomeryGrant Green's Idle Moments (1965)Sinatra at the Sands featuring The Count Basie Orchestra (1966)Miles by the Miles Davis Quintet (1956)Cookin' with the Miles Davis Quintet (1957)Relaxin' with the Miles Davis Quintet (1958)Workin' with the Miles Davis Quintet (1960)Miles Smiles, the Miles Davis Quintet (1967)B.B. King's Live at the Regal (1965) was part of the gig, too, but I accidentally overlooked it in transferring Adam's list from one place to another to another. I'm checkin' it out now, though, and you should, too. He also said he'd been into anything by Charlie Parker, Red Garland, McCoy Tyner, and Tito Puente, so I dug in to Jam Session (1952), Feelin' Red (1979), The Real McCoy (1967), and 1957's Night Beat, respectively, so that we could chew the fat on those cats for a second or two. This was such good fun, though. I hope you find it enjoyable, too. If you'd like to join for an episode or you know someone that'd be a good fit, please reach out via comment, e-mail, D.M., text, phone call. Whatever works. Whether you acknowledge it or not, the world deserves to hear your story. And theirs, too.Thank you.copyright disclaimer: I do not own the rights to the intro/outro audio. Robert joins the guys from his tour with Roger Waters of Pink Floyd to talk about what it's like being on the road with one of his all-time favorite musicians, the process of re-releasing The Greyboy Allstars 1997 classic album A Town Called Earth, and his early days as a musician in the San Diego punk scene. Robert also dives deep on his broad array of musical influences, why great musicians aren't pretentious, and the difference between responding to what you hear and forcing your intention in improvisation.A founding member of the seminal groove band The Greyboy Allstars, organ, keyboard, and synth sharp-shooter Robert Walter splits his time between his own 20th Congress, The Greyboy Allstars, and a robust film soundtrack career in Los Angeles. The Greyboy Allstars became a long term project for Walter with a string of critically acclaimed albums and world tours, and the band quickly became home to some of the most revered players on the modern music scene. To flex his desire to compose in a way that was just outside of Greyboy's wheelhouse, Walter formed 20th Congress and recorded and toured heavily through the late '90s and '00s. This episode of Across The Margin: The Podcast presents an interview with organ, keyboard, and synth extraordinaire Robert Walter, a founder member of the Greyboy Allstars. Walter is a dynamic and prolific musician who splits his time between his own 20th Congress, The Greyboy Allstars, and a robust film soundtrack career in Los Angeles. Initially formed as the backing band for rare groove luminary DJ Greyboy, The Greyboy Allstars became a long term project for Walter with a string of critically acclaimed albums and world tours. The band quickly became home to some of the most revered players in the modern music scene and their success served as a platform for the band's individual members to launch highly successful and substantially diverse solo careers. The Greyboy All Stars recently released an album entitled Get a Job: Music from the Original Broadcast Series Soul Dream, which lies at the heart of this episode. Originally aired as Soul Dream — a four-part, episodic series on Nugs.net in the summer of 2021 — Get a Job is a ten song set of unique never-before-released covers that have become an integral part of the band's famed live sets for nearly three decades. Songs by artists such as Gene Ammons, Gil Scott-Heron, Sonny Stitt, George Harrison, Gary Bartz and Langston Hughes, Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Burt Bacharach and Hal David. In this episode host Michael Shields and Robert Walter discuss how Get a Job emanated from the four part episodic series Soul Dream while conversing over how Walter and the Greyboy Allstars decide upon the songs they choose to cover. They go back in time to talk about the genesis of the Greyboy Allstars, celebrating the famed Wednesday night shows at The Green Circle Bar in San Diego where it all began. They discuss Walter's excellent solo album Better Feathers, how he came to be a part of Mike Gordon from Phish's band, what it is going to mean to him to return to Jazz Fest this year, and a whole lot more. This type of ground-up thinking is just one of the many aspects that endears Karl to his legion of dedicated fans. But Karl also operates from a standpoint of extreme gratitude and grace, punctuated by his outspoken nature regarding his sharp socio-political points of view. Oteil first met Alan & Neal over 20 years ago, when the two were only 18 and 20 years old. Neal shares the details of his studio setup, the plethora of projects he's been working on this year, including his own YouTube channel. He also recalls an emotional moment backstage in 2000 with Oteil, a mentor to him, which propels the group to discuss the driving desire to share their knowledge as musicians. Alan & Neal also tell the strange story of having the power shut off in the middle of their Berkfest performance, a blasphemy Oteil dubs “Soulive Interruptus,” and the four discuss festivals and performances aplenty throughout the years.    Brothers Alan and Neal Evans, on drums and Hammond B-3 organ, respectively, form two-thirds of the band Soulive. Rounding out the group is Eric Krasno on guitar. A funky instrumental trio, Soulive are all about danceable, organ-driven groove jazz. Their sound is a result of fusing the soul-jazz of the past with a modern hip-hop feel.  The band was formed in Buffalo, New York, in the late '90s when all three members were under age 25. However, each already had a substantial background in the jam band scene. Alan and Neal are former members of Moon Boot Lover, and Alan also played with the Greyboy Allstars. Soulive toured with and opened for a number of notables (including John Scofield, Maceo Parker, Los Lobos, Derek Trucks, and Robben Ford) before headlining their own shows and releasing their introductory EP, Get Down, in 1999. More recently, Alan Evans runs his own studio Iron Wax in Western Massachusetts, while touring with Matador! Soul Sounds, a band that he formed with guitarist Eddie Roberts from The New Mastersounds. This week, Oteil & Mike welcome brothers Alan and Neal Evans, primarily known as founding members of the Jazz-Funk trio Soulive along with guitar player Eric Krasno. Oteil first met Alan & Neal over 20 years ago, when the two were only 18 and 20 years old. Neal shares the details of his studio setup, the plethora of projects he’s been working on this year, including his own YouTube channel. Soulive toured with and opened for a number of notables (including John Scofield, Maceo Parker, Los Lobos, Derek Trucks, and Robben Ford) before headlining their own shows and releasing their introductory EP, Get Down, in 1999.More recently, Alan Evans runs his own studio Iron Wax in Western Massachusetts, while touring with Matador! Soul Sounds, a band that he formed with guitarist Eddie Roberts from The New Mastersounds. Neal Evans has worked on film and television scores, as well as being an in-demand keyboardist both in the studio and on the road for a number of high profile artists. A quarter century since releasing their debut, West Coast Boogaloo, the Greyboy All-Stars are set to release their first record in almost 7 years, Como De Allstars. The title track is everything you've come to expect from this jazz and funk outfit with their boogaloo blend. While there is some timely chanting on the title track which we'll get to in our interview with Robert Walter of the band, make no mistake, this band is still the Greyboy Allstars, with even greater musical chops and prowess. I can't tell you how excited I was when I got a notification that the new single existed and indeed when I followed up and listened to it, I was giddy dancing in my condo. So it was with that, that I tracked down Robert Walter the keyboardist in the outfit to talk about the decision to put out new music even though they aren't the once active touring band they were in their hay day with each member moving on to more full time jobs. And that is exactly where the conversation started when I asked what the impetus was for the new record.  First Song: 00:56: Let The Music Take Your Mind Interview Begins: 06:35 Extro Song: 39:31 - Como De Allstars See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 016 of *The Upful LIFE Podcast* features a thoughtful conversation with stalwart keyboardist ROBERT WALTER, founding member of The Greyboy Allstars, leader of his own Robert Walter's 20th Congress (RW20), and of late, Mike Gordon. I was lucky to track down Robert at his rented crib in the Lower Garden District in NOLA, during the comparatively mellow 'daze between' Jazz Fest weekends. The interview actually took place the day before his 49th birthday, and Robert was in a great mood and eager to share some memories and perspective. Since it was Jazz Fest and (naturally) he had a crawfish boil to get to, and then two late night gigs after that party. As such we kept the convo fairly short, about 40 minutes, which ended up being a perfect length for this kinda chat while down at the Jazz Fest.    ROBERT WALTER INTERVIEW STARTS AT 14 MINS  Since we were talking in NOLA, it was obvious where we should start the dialogue. Robert recalls his earliest trips to NOLA and how he became fascinated with the music and culture of the Crescent City. He touches on the different connections he shares with musicians down here, and how those relationships bear thrilling, kaleidoscopic fruits each and every year at Jazz Fest. He speaks about the humble beginnings of his collaborations with Galactic drummer Stanton Moore, and how that friendship has spiraled into a variety of fascinating endeavors. Specifically, we visit his projects Frequinox and Worship My Organ, both annual Jazz Fest special events that Robert is a major cog in. From there we rap a little bit about NOLA Jazz Fest booking trends, and the evolution of the Jazz Fest late night show. Plus the Cali ---> Crescent City funk connection, by way of Dan Prothero & Fog City Records, back in the mid-to-late 1990s.   After getting the 411 of how Robert made his way from punk rock and hip-hop of the late 80's and early 90's to rare-groove and jazz-funk of decades earlier, I was sure to ask Robert how the Greyboy Allstars first came together, and the roots of their connection with DJ Greyboy, and of course the San Diego scene that gave birth to both. Robert retraces that history and gives us a peek into how the Greyboys set a whole retro-jazz-jam-funk scene into motion, and how these pioneers then created their individual "sidecar projects" including his own Robert Walter's 20th Congress. We talk a bit about the different incarnations of RW20, including the most recent lineup for his Spacesuit album from 2018. Robert is candid about his admiration for current 20th Congress drummer Simon Lott, and he offers a bit of insight into his creative process when writing for RW20 versus his own solo endeavors. Robert and I finish up with a look into his "jam" explorations, beginning with a deep cut of the Grateful Dead's "Dark Star" that was recorded back in 1999 during the Money Shot RW20 sessions, and (appropriately) found on last year's Lagniappe Sessions. It was a natural transition to discussing his role and contributions in Phish bassist Mike Gordon's band. Robert was really open about how he sees this project, and why it's evolved into a true collective, instead just fulfilling a bandleader's singular vision.  JESSE PAIGE INTERVIEW BEGINS AT 54 MINS   Then we take about a half-hour to drop in with JESSE PAIGE, owner/operator of the NOLA nightclub Blue Nile, located in the heart of the Frenchman Street madness. The Blue Nile has always been a crucial part of my Jazz Fest experience for as long as I can remember, but in the past couple of years, since Jesse has owned the joint, it's become essential. So has his work with Backbeat Foundation, in promoting a diverse late-night musical menu every year during Fest. Jesse has always gone the extra mile to make sure that musicians, fans and staff are all properly taken care of, not just during the craziness of Jazz Fest, but year-round. His reputation and relationships speak for themselves, and it's not uncommon to meet some musical heroes when hanging out with Jesse at his club. After the 50th Jazz Fest finally wrapped up, I stopped through the Blue Nile and got a few minutes to discuss Jesse's journey from Blue Nile bouncer to owner, and to geek out on his favorite band, Jamiroquai. LARGE UP to Jesse Paige for making the time, and for all that you do for NOLA musicians, out-of-town talents, and international music fans alike.   *Vibe Junkie JAM of the Week*   THE QUICKENING: Use the Breeze (Pawty Remix) Upful LIFE says *THANK YOU* to the great CITY OF NEW ORLEANS! Episode 015 of *The Upful LIFE Podcast* features the one and only EDDIE ROBERTS, guitarist/founder of New Mastersounds, and more recently, of Matador! Soul Sounds. Eddie is also one of four men at the helm of Color Red, a record label/brand based out of Denver, Colorado. For well over 20 years, Eddie has been an omnipresent force in the jazz/jam/funk scenes from the UK to the Bay Area and all points between. During a mid-February three night stand at Boom Boom Room in SF (with The Eddie/Logic Project, and his own Eddie Roberts' West Coast Sounds), Eddie made himself available for a long-form interview at the exquisite Queen Anne Hotel in San Francisco.   EDDIE ROBERTS INTERVIEW STARTS AT 16 MINS    We start out talking about his charity organization Eddie Roberts' Payback, which was initially created to help the plethora of suffering people in the Tenderloin neighborhood of his former home in SF. He explains how the org continues to do the good work in his new residence (of four years) in Denver, CO. However, Eddie's roots are in Leeds, England, and he briefly takes us back to his youth, when he was originally a pianist, before he became infatuated with electric guitar and at 10 years old he begged his parents for an axe. Eddie grew up idolizing Jimi Hendrix and then really fell hard for the late jazz guitar great Grant Green. ENTER COLOR RED's NEW MASTERSOUNDS CONTEST & WIN A 7" 'Shake It' PRIZE BUNDLE A favorite of mine as well, Grant Green gives Eddie and I an opportunity for a short detour about the legendary guitarist, and how Eddie arrived at the tremendous tribute show he has often put together to honor Green. From there we go back across the pond to Eddie's early days tailor-making bands and DJ nights in Leeds, and the earliest incarnation of his band, The Mastersounds. He riffs on his organ trio The Three Deuces, before explaining how he put together The New Mastersounds around 1999. We talk a little bit about “Acid Jazz” as a bad word, and the scene in England where Eddie Roberts style truly took root. Other topics include when the Greyboy Allstars visited England in 1995, and when The New Mastersounds returned the favor ten years later in Chicago. Analog recording techniques and the low-fi vibe, why Eddie's records sound so authentic, plus the origins of the “shitty is pretty” aesthetic. Roberts reaches back for some humorous memories of Bear Creek in the early days, and explains his original idea and vision for the Suwannee Rising festival that took place earlier this month.     I had to get the scoop on the Color Red label, as Eddie details the humble beginnings of the brand, and a little about his partners, including Sunsquabi bassist Josh Fairman. From studio equipment to musical connections, brand recognition and art-design continuity, Eddie expounds about why they are not exclusive to Colorado artists. Also a bit on the importance of making original music and why Color Red pays attention to remix culture. We also had to rap about the magnificent Matador! Soul Sounds project with Alan Evans, Chris Spies, Kim Dawson, Adryon de Leon, and Kevin Scott. How that band took shape, with regard to Soulive's Evans and the pair of singers, as well as what's on the Matador docket moving forward. I would be remiss if I didn't ask Eddie about his penchant for fashion. We are talking about a sharp dressed man here. Naturally, I had to find out what was at the root of Eddie Roberts' patented look, and just give him some props for always carrying it with dignity, class, and panache. Unfortunately I had to go to work this particular afternoon, and that (plus some technical difficulties) caused me to cut the interview a little shorter than I'd like, but we left a lot on the table for a sequel. Thank you kindly, Eddie Roberts, for this enjoyable chat! JAZZ FEST AFTER DARK Preview (1hr 11mins)   A very brief rundown of some of the hottest night shows in town, as we approach this year's musical Mecca. This is my blessed 17th year heading down to the Jazz Fest, and I thought it would be beneficial to offer a few options for folks on the proverbial fence about which gigs to hit after they leave the Fairgrounds, or on the days between. This preview is STRICTLY AFTER-DARK OPTIONS! And only a few suggestions, there's plenty more I do not have the time to touch on. Check it ALL out at Jazz Fest Grids. Ghost-Note checks in at 1hr 35min Photo- Jeffrey Dupuis   Backstage at the inaugural Suwannee Rising festival at Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, I was lucky to snag a few minutes with Robert "Sput" Searight and Nate Werth of Ghost-Note, and both formerly of Snarky Puppy. These GRAMMY-Award winners have embarked on a serious new endeavor with Ghost-Note, so it was only appropriate to catch them at SOSMP, where I was first introduced to Snarky Puppy at Bear Creek nearly a decade ago. Sput & Nate were both amped to return to the music park, but even more stoked on NOLA Jazz Fest and their huge SWAGISM show on second Saturday at One Eyed Jack's. So for about twenty minutes, we retraced the making of their album in NOLA, and then they set the proverbial table for what's to come next week in the Crescent City. Seth and Rob call Adam Deitch's father Bobby to discuss his own musical history as it relates to his accomplished son. We learn about how he and his one Uncle were a huge influence, and how in his case, the teacher became the student. They then chat with Adam and compare and contrast his work with Break Science and Lettuce, and they even touch upon new things on which his jazz quartet is working. He speaks of how hip-hop, particularly Redman and Method Man, helped him to develop his style as a drummer and as a producer. We get a little window into his creative process and he speaks of the challenges and rewards of playing with Lettuce. Adam explains how Galactic and Greyboy Allstars paved the way for Lettuce's success and then gets into the "Wayback Machine" to discuss his days learning about music in his boyhood home where the television was secondary to the stereo, and how his parents' enthusiasm for music rubbed off on him. He speaks of his first rock n roll experience seeing Living Color live. Then Adam discusses many of the talented people he met at the Berklee School of Music where he met many people with whom he still plays today. He speaks about how he "owes 10% of his career" to Eric Krasno as Kras not only do we learn that he landed Lettuce their initial gigs, but we also find out that he facilitated their initial meeting with John Scofield. wTnS is Produced by Rob Turner, with this episode produced by both he and Seth Weiner, and Engineered by Josh Thane of Wonder Dog Sounds Studio. www.joshthaneproductions.com www.wonderdogsounds.com wTnS is a proud sponsor of the Osiris Podcast Network. Michael fell into film score composition by chance when The Greyboy Allstars were asked to score Jake Kasdan's first feature Zero Effect and worked on the music for the highly regarded (though short-lived) TV series, Freaks and Geeks.  In 2000, Richard Kelly commissioned Michael to do the soundtrack for the film Donnie Darko. Its original score album went on to sell over 100,000 copies (in part because of Michael's remake of Tears for Fears' song Mad World, featuring Gary Jules).  Michael has since gone on to compose scores for the movies Out Cold, Nothing, Cypher, Orange County, Me and You and Everyone We Know, The TV Set, a segment of Paris, je t'aime, Unaccompanied Minors, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. More recently, Michael has composed for: Funny People, Bridesmaids, The Five Year Engagement, Cyrus and Jeff Who Lives At Home for The Duplass Brothers, and the upcoming film, The Reluctant Fundamentalist for Mira Nair.

In 2002, musician Michael Andrews and singer Gary Jules performed a mesmerizing cover of Tears for Fears' “Mad World” for theDonnie Darko soundtrack. That unlikely cover not only found it's way to the top of the music charts, but opened doors for Andrews into the world of film composing. But, as the guitarist explains in this week's FJ podcast, composing film music is just one side of Andrews' career. Under the moniker Elgin Park, he's served as the guitarist for the Greyboy Allstars, the extremely popular soul jazz band based out of San Diego. He is a virtuoso at everything from George Benson-inspired funk to intricate fingerstyle playing.

This week's show features a long-awaited chance for me to meet the Twin Cats, a band I have seen play live several times, and who is talked about as a major influence on many of our former guests (Shadyside Allstars, Blue Moon Revue, Original State of Mind, et al).  I was also warned ahead of time that this band can get a little crazy at times.  They definitely live up to that reputation.  Somewhere in the midst of the wisecracks and wild stories there is an interview, but it's probably the least interesting part of this show. In just a few short years, the Twin Cats have gone from busking in Broad Ripple, to playing festivals such as 10KLF, Summer Camp, and the F.U.N.K. Festival.  During that time they have shared the bill with some of the top touring acts in the country including The Greyboy Allstars, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Rusted Root, and Here Come the Mummies.  When not hobknobbing with the bigwigs, they can still be found playing most of the great small venues here in town and are definitely worth checking out if you get the chance. Links referenced in the show:                The Twin Cats can be found here: | | | | .   Their latest CD, Thick (which, contrary to intention, did beat the show's release), was recorded at the Static Shack by Gary Meilke, , and Chris Dobbs, and is currently available at and . Darfur and Immigration - After a long, and unexpected delay, Indirect Democracy is back. On this Podcast, I will cover a personal story involving a friend’s final step towards citizenship. It is important to remember all the people who come here to work and struggle to attain the American dream and be part of our collective experience as a nation. Sharing that moment with her is something I will not soon forget. I received an essay regarding Darfur that I am proud to share. It coincides with the Global Day for Darfur that passed on April 29. The writer, named Maria Halyna, runs a website dedicated to educating us all about the tragedy of Darfur – tragedy seems like such a small word when you consider this living horror. I encourage you to visit her site and learn more: http://blog.myspace.com/mariahalynal The music from this Podcast is entitled, “Still Waiting,” by the Greyboy Allstars. You can find their music at: www.greyboyallstars.com As well, there is the Global Warming Update, the President’s Love Horoscope, a word from a new sponsor AND, as always, the What a Weinie Award. Born in Valdivia, Chile Pablo Ojeda moved to the United States at an early age growing up in Texas and then in Oregon.Pablo began playing bass in 1989 and immediately fell in love with Funk music listening to such greats as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, and Parliament. In 1991 he and his brother Ricardo Ojeda formed one of the Northwest's most popular Funk bands Rubberneck. Rubberneck toured the United States several times opening for acts like Maceo Parker, WAR, and The Greyboy Allstars and even lived in Malaga, Spain for a summer playing music.More recently Pablo has been performing with Sabroso, a band that mixes Latin rhythms with the Funk he loves so much. His first release was a 6 song EP named “Gotta Move” named so by the need to stay busy during quarantine but also because it was the goal of the EP to make you move. His next release was a single called "Treat Yo Self" featuring a slinky funk slap line and funky horns by Mr. John Nastos.Pablo's most recent release, a single entitled "Thankful" was written in November and influenced by the spirit of thankfulness given by the holiday. This song again features some amazing sax work by local Portland saxophonist John Nastos. Thankful is an up-tempo, feel-good, song meant to make you forget about the problems of the day.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/ladydiva-live-radio/exclusive-content
