Today's 2 topics: - Throughout history small close approaching space rocks have been a part of our environment. Now, thanks to improved telescopes and cameras, asteroid hunters are routinely discovering these small asteroids as they pass closer than the Moon is to us. Since these tiny asteroids are only bright enough to detect for a few days out of their long, many month duration paths about the Sun, astronomers have had difficulty in determining how many of these small space rocks may exist in near Earth space. This effort received more emphasis when a house sized space rock exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia in 2013 releasing about 10 times the energy of the Hiroshima atomic bomb.   - Jupiter has been observed throughout human history and is so bright that you can even spot it under the artificial light dome of one of our cities. Even so it is less than 40 years ago that we were first able to view Jupiter in detail as the Voyagers streaked by it. Jupiter contains more than twice the mass of all of the other planets, dwarf planets, asteroids, and comets in our solar system combined. A Compassionate ReturnAfter last week's culmination, the Full Moon activating all three great cycles, the nodal shift, Lammas marking the first harvest, this week offers a more interior quality. Three personal planets on the move. A significant healing threshold turning inward. And the week ahead already gathering its own considerable activation.But first, this week. Which is asking something particular of us.Key Cycles This Week:Monday, August 3: Chiron stations retrograde at 1 degree of Taurus, retrograding back into Aries and turning direct in early 2027. When Chiron entered Taurus in June we named a new era of healing work beginning — the wounds of body, earth, and resource. But Chiron is not yet fully committed to Taurus. It is turning back to complete what was not yet fully metabolized in Aries since 2018. The wounds of identity, agency, the right to exist and take up space. The armored individualism that mistakes isolation for strength.This retrograde is not a setback. It is a deepening. And Chiron does not return to Aries empty-handed. It has touched Taurus, briefly, but genuinely. The wounds of scarcity, of distorted relationship to resource and embodied worth, are now being carried back into the Aries review. What would it mean to act and assert from a place of genuine embodied sufficiency rather than the chronic survival-level scarcity that dominator culture has installed in so many? Earth is eye-to-eye with Mars in a manner of speaking.The moon passes by Neptune, Saturn, and Uranus.Venus approaches Porrima.Venus and Mercury could both appear at semi-circle phase on the same day, even though math says they shouldn't.

The dawn twilight has a bright visitor the next few mornings – the planet Mercury. It’s farthest from the Sun for its current morning appearance. It looks like a bright star, but it’s so low in the sky that it’s tough to find. Mercury holds an important spot in the history of astronomy and physics. It provided some of the first confirmation of General Relativity – Albert Einstein’s theory of gravity. Mercury’s orbit around the Sun is lopsided, so the planet’s distance from the Sun varies. For a long time, astronomers had seen that the orbit’s closest point shifted a tiny bit over time. Isaac Newton’s laws of gravity explained most of the difference. But there was still a tiny amount that couldn’t be accounted for. Einstein’s theory of gravity held that massive bodies warp the space around them. Since Mercury is the Sun’s closest planet, its orbit is influenced by that “warpage” more strongly than any other planet’s. In fact, general relativity accounted precisely for the shift in the orbit. So Mercury’s orbit provided some of the first evidence to support general relativity – a new way of thinking about gravity. Look for Mercury quite low in the eastern sky during the waxing twilight. It’ll shine a little brighter each day over the next few mornings. But it’ll also drop a little closer to the Sun, so you’ll need a clear horizon to spot it. Tomorrow: catching waves. Venus moved to Virgo on July 31, feeling the slippery pressure of retrograde Saturn's aspect. Mars leaves steady Taurus for the quick-moving environment of Gemini on Sunday, Mercury returns to Cancer on Wednesday after completing his retrograde work in Gemini, and Rahu and Ketu resume retrograde motion, reminding us that life's path is rarely a straight line. The Moon completes its journey through Pisces early in the week, crossing the final gandanta point before emerging into Aries, suggesting that lingering endings are giving way to fresh beginnings.Rather than rushing ahead, this week asks us to transition with intention. The first half favors wrapping up loose ends, clearing space, and preparing the ground before momentum builds. By midweek the atmosphere becomes noticeably lighter, encouraging new initiatives, creative work, conversations, and exploration. Mars in Gemini brings curiosity and movement, while Mercury's return to Cancer reconnects thought with intuition.
