Trump's precision strike on Iran's nuclear facilities wasn't the warmonger fantasy the left predicted, but a surgical operation that had the entire Middle East breathing easier. While critics shriek about "being dragged into war," our hosts explain why America's bunker-busting finale was a moment of strategic genius.Meanwhile, New York Democrats have outdone themselves by nominating a pro-Hamas communist for mayor, proving once again that when given the choice between sanity and ideology, they'll pick crazy every time. The hosts break down how this 33-year-old radical managed to out-left Andrew Cuomo in a city already drowning in its own progressive policies. But wait, there's more dysfunction: meet Chris Smith, the Vermont man who proposed to his AI girlfriend and sobbed with joy when the chatbot said yes—all while his actual human baby mama watched in bewilderment.Plus: The Supreme Court slaps down imperial “unelected pissant judges”, tariffs are making bank, the border crisis vanishes overnight, and a city-killer asteroid might smack the moon instead of Earth.

Rav Kook's Vision: Halakhah, Secular Knowledge, and the Renewal of Judaism. Those of us who know something about Rabbi Abraham Isaac HaKohen Kook's life and philosophy know about his being stuck outside of the Land of Israel during WWI, being the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine, and his encouragement of the secular Zionists who turned swamps into vegetation. But not many of us have analyzed the personal notebooks that the Rav left, commonly known as Shemonah Kevatzim (eight collections). Recently, I had the privilege of sitting down with Professor Marc B. Shapiro author of the acclaimed new book, Renewing the Old, Sanctifying the New: The Unique Vision of Rav Kook (Littman Library, 2025). Our conversation ranged from the philosophical underpinnings of Rav Kook's thought to its relevance for modern Orthodoxy and contemporary Jewish life. Using the notebooks and other information Marc B. Shapiro's Renewing the Old, Sanctifying the New offers a window into the philosophical heart of Rav Kook's approach to halakhah and secular knowledge, using Rav Kook's own words to illuminate his radical, yet deeply rooted, vision for modern Judaism. I found it important to use those words and quotes when discussing the topic with Professor Shapiro. Rav Kook's words speak volumes – and you'll hear them throughout the interview. From country twang to electronic trance, our latest mix takes listeners on a journey through an extraordinary range of musical landscapes. Matt and Sam discover unexpected connections between artists spanning five decades, share their surprised reactions to genre departures, and explain why this collection might be their favorite in years. The hosts dive deep into Eric Church's reflective "Hands of Time," exploring how music keeps us youthful despite life's inevitable forward march. They unpack Wet Leg's relatable lyrics about unwanted advances in "Catch These Fists" and The Kooks' poignant reminder to live fully because "you never know when it's going to stop." The conversation takes a more vulnerable turn with Haim's powerful exploration of panic attacks in "Everybody's Trying to Figure Me Out."A surprising highlight emerges in Finneas and Kacey Musgraves' acoustic duet, where Finneas (of Billie Eilish production fame) showcases his remarkable vocal talents. The hosts marvel at Orbital's collaboration with actress Tilda Swinton on a six-minute meditation that functions simultaneously as relaxation aid and dance track. The musical exploration continues with The Black Keys' soul-influenced sound, Little Feat proving their 50+ year longevity, Arcade Fire's signature building compositions, and Charlotte DeWitte's pure electronic experience. https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/sam-april-2025-new-music/pl.u-MBM3INqbr81. This week on Rockonteurs, we are delighted to welcome Luke Pritchard from The Kooks to the show. The Kooks were formed in Brighton in the mid 00s and their 2006 debut album ‘Inside In, Inside Out' sold 2 million copies in the UK alone. Their follow up ‘Konk' was another UK No.1 album and they are enjoying a new resurgence as social media has made them a generations new favourite band again. Luke joins Gary and Guy to talk about his influences from Dylan to the Stones, how success so early on in their career was a double-edged sword, how he once kicked Alex Turner from the Arctic Monkey's in the face at a gig and embarrassed himself in front of a Beatle! Never / Know is the new album from The Kooks and is out on May 9th.
