As part of a series of in-depth, one-on-one interviews with candidates on the March ballot, I talk with Serena Oberstein, who is running to unseat incumbent Los Angeles City Councilmember John Lee to represent the 12th District in the northwest San Fernando Valley. It is a fascinating race, pitting Oberstein, former president of the city's Ethics Commission, against an elected official who is under investigation by the commission for his alleged role in a scandal that sent his predecessor to federal prison.Oberstein, who is currently head of Jewish World Watch, would be the first Democrat to represent the 12th District, and the first person in decades to hold the seat without first serving as chief of staff to a previous councilmember.Serena Oberstein Website, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.LA Daily News: Ex-ethics commissioner Serena Oberstein challenges John Lee in LA council raceLA Times: Six years after lavish Vegas trip, Councilmember John Lee faces ethics allegationsLA Public Press: LA City Councilman John Lee sues Ethics Commission
It was 60 years ago today, at 12:30 PM local Dallas Time that those terrible shots rang out. I was only 16 months old when it happened. Welcome to a special extra episode of Spinning My Dad's Vinyl. My dad's collection is known for its extensive and eclectic mix of music and other albums. This is one of those Other Albums. My dad was a big enough fan of the 35th president of the United States that he had two memorial records in his collection. I already featured the other one on President's Day 2021 in Volume 8: JFK The Presidential Years. This one is really special. And I will be playing it in its entirety. This recording is a memorial tribute produced and broadcast by radio station WMCA, New York on Friday November 22, 1963. Just hours after John F. Kennedy's assassination. You will hear highlights of speeches made by JFK, including his entire inaugural address. The broadcast was narrated by Ed Brown. It was written by Martin Plissner. Produced by M.L. Oberstein, and directed by Roger Turner, the director of news and public Affairs. The recorded speech material is from the files of Radio Press International. So get ready to hear one of the greatest orators and politicians of our time, only to have his time with us ended early in A Special Extra Volume: 60 Years Since JFK's Assassination. Google's search results have come a long way since 2016, providing consumers with better results thanks to NLP and machine learning. Is Google at war with affiliate marketers? Head of SEO Branding at Wix and SEO Consultant for Semrush, Mordy Oberstein, joins the podcast today to share his high-level perspective and valuable insights to help you mitigate risk and save your rankings. In the last 12 months, there have been core updates, review updates, and spam updates. And he believes it's important to look to data for patterns to better understand the SEO ecosystem. In his roles, he has access to huge swathes of data, and to help site owners succeed, he has a vested interest in unpacking what Google seems to value in the content it rewards. Here are just a few examples of important recommendations he shares in the interview: Read the content of competitors who outrank you after an update to understand what replaced you. Use the brand sniff test to determine if your content is of high quality. Use internal linking and semantic understanding to build topical authority. Hire a content marketing agency if needed to help translate your expertise into digestible content because readability is important for user experience. He also discusses the continuing rise of AI-written content that is largely generic using similar language structures. And how adding real human experiences is key to providing unique insights and quality content. He even offers a great example people can use in product reviews to accomplish this. But Mordy says quality is a domain-level analysis, not just at the page level. And so, to improve domain-level quality scores, it is important to focus on technical health, content, and user experience. Predicting and understanding user needs is crucial. He believes quality content means targeting the audience and offering the right amount of nuance to predict their needs. And while links are a secondary signal, they may become less important as Google gets better at understanding content, with relevance and domain quality playing a more significant role in ranking in a scenario where content is generic across the web. He does believe that leveraging AI can help automate tasks that were not possible before though. AI can be used for research, understanding topics, organizing information, rewriting content, and automating tasks like writing headers and product descriptions. However, users have become more skeptical of web content due to issues such as data privacy and fake reviews. As a result, the bar for acceptable content has risen, and web content creators need to up their game. So if you're a site owner or online content creator, you'll definitely want to check out the full interview and take lots of notes! You can build a solid foundation for your SEO efforts by choosing the right content management system (CMS). Ideally, you should select a platform that allows you to optimize your website's on-page and technical SEO. Mordy Oberstein, head of SEO branding at Wix.com, joined me on the SEJ Show to discuss the direction of the CMS vis-a-vis SEO and what to look for in an SEO-friendly CMS solution. You'll get insights into a good CMS that will cover the technical details that ensure your site appears on a search. Every platform has its logic. It's like using an SEO tool. –Mordy Oberstein, 33:36 There are SMBs who don't have that luxury of paying, you know, hundreds of dollars an hour for an SEO to come in. But a good CMS will take care of the technical things to ensure your site's indexable. –Mordy Oberstein, 8:38 That 60% of a customer base, you're not going to expect them to be able to implement the most advanced customized SEO settings. In 2005, Rabbi Andrew Oberstein was a budding theatre kid in Los Angeles, when Teen People magazine invited him to interview Sandra Bullock. "I loved Miss Congeniality," he told me, "so I thought, 'why not take this opportunity to check out what's going on with Miss Congeniality 2?'". Before Rabbi Andrew became a rabbi, he was destined for a career on the stage, and studied musical theatre at Emerson College, in Boston. This passion inspired his rabbinic thesis, 'Welcome to Falsettoland: The Intersection of Jewish and Queer Identity in Late 20th Century American Theater.' Rabbi Andrew spoke with me in January 2022, and told me about the leap of faith that brought him from the pages of Teen People magazine to the rabbinate. Bob Oberstein has been resolving conflicts for over 50 years. He's represented both employees and employers in the private and public sectors. In recognition of his service Bob was awarded the U.S. Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director's Award for lifetime achievement in promoting positive Labour Management Relations. Bob told me his blood type is B positive so positivity literally runs through his veins and he approaches life and mediation with huge optimism. He says there are "no problems only infinite possibilities". I learnt a great deal from Bob and found his positivity infectious. I think you will too!
What happens when you were born at home, and then you grow up to realize that it's actually not considered “normal” for most people? For Morgan Oberstein, home birth was a very normalized thing within her family. Not only was she born at home, but she and other home birth children amongst the extended family would often be at attendance for other home births within the group. In this interview, Morgan shares her own home birth journey with her daughter Brooklyn. A perinatal chiropractor, Morgan had the experience of supporting many women through their own motherhood transitions. Even with her expertise and background, Morgan still wanted to have the experience and process of being a birthing person on her own -- so that meant taking classes and educating herself as well as honoring her own unique fears and challenges. One of the largest being a limiting belief around first-time mothers choosing home birth. Morgan tells us how she moved through going past “due date,” plus her vision for her birth and how it ultimately unfolded Things we talk about in this episode: chiropractors, use of water in birth, cervical checks, birth team support, pushing, en caul, nuchal cord, nuchal hand and pets at your birth Links: Morgan's website: www.drmorganblackburn.com Morgan's chiropractic practice website: www.connectioncafechiropractic.com Mogran's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.morganjade/ Our website: https://www.diahpodcast.com/ Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/3jKtIYv Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/diahpodcast/ Donate to DIAH: https://bit.ly/3qgm4r9 DIAH Shop: ttps://bit.ly/3qhwgAe
What Does It Take to Be a Chiropractor? with Dr. Ron Oberstein Today in this special episode of The MaxLiving Podcast, host Dr. Nick sits down with leading Chiropractor and President of Life Chiropractic College West, Dr. Rob Oberstein. Life Chiropractic College West is a private college in Hayward, California is known for its Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, and has been accredited since 1987 by the Commission on Accreditation of the Council on Chiropractic Education and by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners. In addition to his service as President of Life Chiropractic College West, Dr. Rob has decades of experience as a practicing Chiropractor and is seen as one of the leaders of Chiropractic in North America. In this episode. Dr. Ron shares what it takes to become a Chiropractor, what made him choose the path of Chiropractic, and the potential Chiropractic Care has to change healthcare for the better. When asked about what it takes to be a chiropractor, Dr. Ron says that first and foremost, one must have “the heart to serve.” He explains that Chiropractic is more than a career, and is in fact a calling that takes years of study and a dedication to providing health and wellness. What very few people know is that Chiropractors go through years of arduous study, learning many of the same subjects as medical doctors. What sets Chiropractors apart from medical doctors, then, is not what they learn, but how they learn. As Dr. Ron explains, “we learn it in a different way,” focusing on Salutogenesis, which is the focus on factors that support human health and well-being, rather than focusing on factors that cause disease (otherwise known as pathogenesis). As Dr. Ron explains, the process of becoming a Chiropractor is not severely limited by past studies, though a prior college degree is often required. However, as has recently become apparent in traditional medical students as well, an undergraduate degree in the sciences does not necessarily guarantee success in medical school. In fact, outside experiences and perspectives can inform medical and Chiropractic students alike, creating a diverse and well-rounded collection of health-minded professionals. Find out more about what it takes to become a Chiropractor: https://maxliving.com/healthy-articles/exceptional-chiropractic-care-begins-with-training/ Dr. Ron stresses the need for balance between traditional medical practices and the health-centered focus of Chiropractic care. As he says, “we all have to work together.” When you hurt your arm, you go to the nervous system, and then you need to visit your Chiropractor to care for your nervous system and help its ability to support smooth and fast healing. The underlying approach to Chiropractic and health is that “this body was born perfectly,” and Chiropractors “work with that intelligence so that the body can heal itself,” focusing on what's right with the body vs. what's wrong with the body. Dr. Nick asks Dr. Ron about his perspective on the role of Chiropractic in healthcare, the balance of emergency care versus preventative care, and the idea that Chiropractic care should be a part of your healthcare “from the womb to the tomb.” Both Doctors stress the need for Chiropractic in the world, and Dr. Ron discusses his educational insights into the growth of Chiropractic care in the future. As Dr. Ron and Dr. Nick state, “we need more Chiropractors” and “we need more people seeking them out.” Tune in to this exciting new episode of The MaxLiving Podcast to find out everything you need to know about Chiropractic, natural health, and more!
