so out of the blue some guy (who I've never met or spoken to before) insists that I intervene in a dispute between he and an ex bandmate (an acquaintance of mine) over ownership of some master tapes from the 1990's. I know nothing of the band or the recordings in question. I politely reply, stating this has zero to do with me and wish him luck resolving the matter. He responds with a series of insults, vague threats and blocks me (HURRAY). "Why can't you be more like (Tom) Hazelmeyer?" Like it's so easy to be like Tom Hazelmeyer, I wish. "I LIVE ALONE AND HAVE NO JOB SO I HAVE PLENTY OF TIME TO SPEND ON THIS" (i appreciate the personal details but I would've wagered on all 3 of these things being true)Hey, "Sludge Metal Dan" or whatever your pseudonym is, why can't you be more like Carson Craig's amazing Jet City Womeme IG account? this weekend's Austin Psych Fest is nearly upon us and while it is tempting to weigh in on such important subjects like “do you have to remove your floppy hat before going thru the metal detectors?” and “how do the Night Beats still exist”, I'll instead publicly state (not for the first time) that I am unprepared to tell the story about the time I was physically ejected from a Black Rebel Motorcycle club show in Las Vegas for heckling the band. Simply put, I am saving this sage for my own book, a tome which will solely concern the events and circumstances surrounding my physical ejection from a Black Rebel Motorcycle club show in Las Vegas for heckling the band. I realize some of you probably think this is a rather flimsy premise for a book that might be as long as 600 pages, but if Mike Pompeo can get away with (however long his stupid book is) blathering on about his weight loss secrets and his boner for Israel, I'm pretty sure I've got him (and everyone else) beat.

Tony Prisk is in his eleventh season playing second trumpet with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Prior to taking the job in Philly, Tony played second trumpet with the Houston Symphony.See a pattern developing? It's not an accident, and it's not because Tony doesn't have what it takes to be "the man".In this episode, we discuss the value of specializing in a niche, such as playing second trumpet in a major symphony, (and why some people feel like they're "settling" for their position in the Philadelphia Orchestra), an exhortation on Charlier's Etude #2, why our ego often gets in the way of finding our purpose as musicians and as human beings, and much more. Here's a bit of what you'll hear in this episode:-Tony describes life in a top 5 orchestra...01:15-Putting the ego aside, and embracing the role you've been given...06:20-Tony's personal trumpet journey...08:15-How you "tell a story" with written music notes on a page...16:30-Is self-expression or "blending" the ideal in an orchestra?...23:50-The value of specializing in a role such as second trumpet in an orchestra...33:45-The advice Tony Prisk would tell his younger self...41:15-Plus whatever your discerning ears deem worthy of your time and interest...About the Guest:Anthony Prisk joined The Philadelphia Orchestra as second trumpet in August 2013. He came from the Houston Symphony, where he was second trumpet for 11 seasons, and the New World Symphony, where he was a trumpet fellow for four seasons. In the past 20 years he has played internationally with several orchestras and music festivals, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Grant Park Festival Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Moscow Philharmonic, and many others.  "Opera is queer af". Yet is is seated within the classical music profession- one dominated by a white, straight,  middle-class and privileged persona. Musicians have never fitted this rigidity. The abundance of creativity and expression needed to connect with audiences requires a mind that thinks outside of the binary mentality. We also naturally have sexual and gender expressions that match the individual, rather than the gender construct. Still, musicians speak about this very rarely.I am so excited to share this conversation with you. My guest today is Ella Taylor. Winner of the Second Prize at the Kathleen Ferrier Awards, Ella Taylor is a soprano with a passion for performing contemporary music and works by women and gender non-conforming artists. They were a Young Artist with the National Opera Studio for 2019/20 season, as well as a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, where they gained Distinction in MA Performance, a DipRAM for an outstanding final recital, and the Charles Norman Prize. They currently study with Elizabeth Ritchie.Ella is a keen collaborator and recitalist, making a dedicated effort to work with and perform works by people underrepresented in classical music.  Recent collaborations include the project After Violence with _REMIX; an exploration of violence and masculinity through a queer lens with drag artist Rhys’s Pieces, as well as working with composers and librettists in the creation of new, LGBT+ work. They also have performed at Leeds Lieder as part of the Composer and Poets Forum and with Ensemble 360 at Music in the Round. In the episode, we speak about Ella's journey to identifying as trans and non-binary and what this means to them. We also speak about the world of opera and how people love to gender/stereotype voice parts. Ella shares what it looks like to be a good ally and how musicians can help promoting inclusivity and how they navigate introducing their identity to people who may have a more traditional understanding of gender.Find out more about Ella:@etaylorsoprano Instagram/TwitterI am so excited to be sharing this conversation with you!

Then, in Gaming, Star Trek Online gets reactionary with it's newest Legendary Ship offerings, and we finally break down our review of Anniversary's featured episodes. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we'll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages This Week's Community Questions are: CQ: Where do you think Captain Archer might make an appearance? Picard, Strange New Worlds, or something new. If so what kind of story do you hope they tell about him? AND CQ: Will you be using a cloaked torpedo build on your Temer Raider? If not what kind of build will you use? Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT Ronald D. Moore Makes a Move As the streaming wars heat up so does the struggle to keep highly talented show creators locked into deals at a single production studio. J.J. Abrahms made headlines recently jumping from Paramount to Warner Bros. and now the Hollywood Reporter is saying Star Trek alum Ronald D. Moore is making a move. Having produced shows for both Starz and Apple TV+ under Sony TV, Moore has secured a deal with Disney's recently acquired 20th Television where he will start with a recreation of a Swiss Family Robinson series for Disney+. Moore seemed very excited about the move, saying “I grew up loving Disney movies, TV shows, and theme parks, and I still do to this day, so the chance to work on some of the same classic titles like Swiss Family Robinson was an opportunity I just couldn't pass up.” Moore will remain involved with both Outlander on Starz and For All Mankind on Apple TV+. The latter of which has just premiered its sophomore season.  TrekMovie.com Gives Us More From Moore In an exclusive interview with TrekMovie.com, Moore talked about the creation of the show, how they ride the line of an alternate reality space race while keeping it recognizable, and how working on Star Trek taught him how to write for television and the importance of diversity. For All Mankind is set in a fictional reality where a Russian cosmonaut was the first human to set foot on the moon and how that event would affect the subsequent space race to follow. “Star Trek basically taught me everything about writing for television in a lot of ways. And we did a lot of time travel episodes. We talked internally about a lot of history, a lot of alternate history ideas.” One of the biggest changes with this fictional reality is the diversification of NASA astronaut crews nearly 15 years earlier. Moore said that was one of the core concepts of the show, to make a bigger and better space program. “why is it better? We're creating a better world. To bring it back to Trek, it's the road to Star Trek. So what [does] the road to Star Trek entail? It entails becoming a better society.” For more information on Moore's move to Disney and the full interview with Trek Movie, the links are in our show notes. Bob Bakish Talks Arms Dealing We've been talking on the show for a while now about CBS All Access – soon to be Paramount Plus – and how the broadcast home of Star Trek fits in among the plethora of streaming services out there. One analogy that we've overlooked is, perhaps surprisingly, “arms dealer.” At least, that's what ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish calls it. We've talked in the past about how CBS has been a lot more cavalier with licensing its extensive library to other services. I can still watch star trek reruns on Netflix, for example. However, they've made it a habit to sell their new content off as well. According to an article on Bloomberg.com, they've sold an Aaron Sorkin drama to Netflix and a movie about Billie Holliday to Hulu. Oh, and that Coming to America sequel? Paramount made it, but Amazon is going to distribute it. And maybe worst of all, they sold a popular Western-themed series called Yellowstone to Peacock. Yeah… Peacock. According to the article, licensing deals like that account for nearly a quarter of the company's revenue. And with movie theaters closed and the stiff competition among services, that's money that they can't afford to just give up. They can't even pay to get their stuff back. According to the article, Peacock wouldn't release ViacomCBS from the Yellowstone deal, so they're just gonna make a prequel. Because if there's one thing ViacomCBS and Paramount Plus know how to do, it's how to do reboots and prequels that everyone loves. RUMORS! Well, this week, the rumor-mill was churning out some good ones… But, remember.. These are ONLY rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt! For starters, Drew Dietsch at GiantFreakingRobot has heard reports that Paramount is moving forward with a fourth installment of the Kelvin Timeline --- but, instead of it being a strictly theatrical release, ViacomCBS plans to release it simultaneously via its streaming service and theatres. According to their sources, Pine and the rest of the cast will be involved -- although a new director has not yet been selected. The Plot… they're going back to the timey-wimey Pine Kirk meets Daddy Hemsworth. As if THAT wasn't rumor enough, the article goes on to say that the studio is trying to get Shatner to appear as well! MORE RUMORS! While we're on the topic of returning cast: Dietsch has a separate report suggesting that Scott Bakula -- who played Captain Jonathan Archer is Star Trek: Enterprise -- will come back to reprise the role on Star Trek: Picard. According to the article, the studio hopes to //quote// bring Scott Bakula back by having him cameo in another Star Trek show and then leave the door open for him to headline his own solo series. //end quote// On the topic of filming… while we anxiously await new Trek to grace our television screens, Social Media might help you pass the time. Especially if you follow folks like actors… showrunners… you know… industry folk. You see, earlier this week, actors like Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn posted some innocuous social media updates… random pictures FROM CANADA! Then, unrelated, Star Trek Picard's Showrunner made a tweet that was quickly removed… In it, he wrote, “Day One of many…” with a little film-camera emoji. So… if we piece it all together, we can assume that filming has begun for BOTH Star Trek: Strange New Worlds and Star Trek: Picard. Now… if only we had release dates!! Billy Campbell Goes Prodigy Enough w/ the Rumors!!! We do have ONE confirmed appearance of a legacy Trek Actor reprising their role!! On episode 360 of Comic Book Central, Billy Campbell -- who you might recall played Thadiun Okona on TNG's Season 2 episode titled, “The Outrageous Okona” let slip that he'll be returning to the role on Nickelodeon's Star Trek: Prodigy! In the interview, Campbell goes on to talk about his experience on Star Trek and even teases how his character will return Star Trek Gaming News by Thomas Reynolds & Shane Hoover The 2021 Legendary Ships: Initial Scans By Thomas Reynolds Captains, we have all four of the 2021 Legendary Klingon and Klingon-adjacent ships on sensors. The B'Rel Bird of Prey and Vor'cha Command Support Battlecruiser will bring honor to the Empire, as the Excelsior Miracle Worker Heavy Cruiser and Temporal Support Cruiser represent Federation ships entwined with Klingon history. In-depth analyses will come after the Bundle is available, but we have some thoughts to share while we wait. Priority One wants to hear your opinions too, so analyze the ship stat links in our shownotes.  House Reborn: Treachery, Faith, and the Lava Flow By Thomas Reynolds Previously on Star Trek Online, the Klingon Civil War went south as J'Ula's truth bombs jump-started an Imperial polyfaction spree. In “Knowledge is Power”, J'Ula's friends (and not you) join Tenavik on her run-and-gun vision quest through the Boreth monastery. One bad trip leads to another, as they resurrect the late Chancellor L'Rell as an icon of reunification. What the time crystals left out is that her soul's in Gre'thor so it's time to do a little soul-searching. Don't do time crystal, kids, it's bad for you. “Leap of Faith” closes the loop with the whole gang suffocating themselves Flatliners-style to storm Gre'thor's gates and liberate L'Rell. You meet Gowron in the Rio's smoking area on your way to the Barge of the Dead and Fek'lhr's throne. Gowron takes L'Rell's place in Gre'thor–because, I mean, the Rio–but J'Ula makes a counteroffer: maybe J'mpok's and Aakar's souls instead? She was going to kill them anyway–but first, you have a lot of demons between you and the waking world. House Reborn is another two-mission addition you could call an episode (we won't, but that targ's been beaten to death already). The Klingon Civil War only totals six missions, but might be STO's most engaging story since the Iconian War ended. We're not dissing Victory is Life in any way, but make this a miniseries and we're there with the popcorn. Three Houses down, and it's clear STO's writers aren't afraid of the narrative swerve. What separates this from what we see on CBS Al–sorry, Paramount Plus, is that the hard pivots are plausible. This is the Star Trek we wish was on TV...but as we'll see later, that might not be all good. Talking about TV: with Chieffo, O'Reilly, and Hurtzler behind the mic, is anyone surprised that the voice acting's so good? It's an out-and-out pleasure to have them back in our Trekkie lives, ridges or no ridges. J'Ula and Adet'pa are mostly the game's invention, but Mara Junot and Rehka Sharma make them worthy of screen time. Let's Talks Gameplay By Thomas Reynolds Pivoting to gameplay…eehhh. The missions are very different, so we'll address each individually, but in ten words or less? More–and more–of the same. “Knowledge is Power” follows the traditional formula of “warp in, [BEEP] things up, warp out.” Space combat as Captain Yourself bookends a protracted slog as J'Ula around the monastery.  J'You'La is also the strike-from-shadows type of matriarch, not a drag-out brawler, making it even more tedious. Go back and watch the engineering room cutscene in “Secrets.” See what she has with her? Mobs of goons providing cover fire and Ripper chow. You will draw aggro as the largest damage source on your side, and the hypospray can't recharge fast enough. The curse of competence, I guess. Bless Cryptic for reinforcing hand-to-hand combat's prominence in Klingon culture, religion, children's birthday parties, and the Qo'noS dating scene. The game just isn't suited to it. This is painfully apparent as you spam J'Ula's single melee attack in one-button battles of attrition. If there's an upside, the cathartic thrill of every...single...kill...you...make...is very Klingon. So, uh, immersion? How About A “Leap Of Faith”? By Thomas Reynolds In comparison “Leap of Faith” is a lot easier: you're yourself again, with your crew and the loadouts you're used to. Three ambushes in the afterlife precede  the fun of clawing your way out to the get-a-way barge. The mission is capped by a final space battle to remind you this, in fact, is still Star Trek. “Not as bad as the first” is damning with faint praise, but really: “Leap of Faith” just works better. The ambushes are sudden and believably short. Escaping Gre'thor is actually a plot point with a clear narrative start and end. The space battle can be a challenge even at Normal, and not just from how long the portals stay open. Say what you will about Fer'ang dreadnoughts as event ships: they're a lot more beastly when pointed at you. However as associate producer Shane put it, “Surface Tension' is long. It's always been long. But unlike the new missions, every step tells the story. Every stage of every fight advances that story. Instead of being long while you're in it, it just feels like it's big stakes and large scale. It's like [Victory is Life's] ‘Home' in that way”. House Reborn, on the other hand, struggles where Shattered did too. Gameplay is a grinding vehicle between dialogue boxes and cutscenes. That's where the money is, and it certainly shows. But as Shane pointed out, we know it's possible to have engaging gameplay that advances the story, too. Alarmed at Our Own Temer-ity By Shane Hoover Whether you bought out or grinded for the long haul, odds are good that you have your Temer now. Its 5/1 weapons layout and 5/2/3 Tac/Sci/Eng console allotment clearly mean it's an alpha-strike ship. Ride up, drop the cloak, let your cannons rip, and slink into darkness while they're mopping up their Earl Grey. Or, and hear us out on this one, maybe not? The Temer's Enhanced Battle Cloak lets you fire torpedoes, mines, and Captain/Boff abilities without fully switching it off. Therefore it's also a perfectly competent Gravity Well and/or torpedo boat, even with its low Science console capacity. Yes, your cloak drops momentarily to light them up, but it's still considered active as traits are concerned. Just make sure your hull is up to it, since you're spending most of the fight without shields. Zhat's All, Folks By Thomas Reynolds and Shane Hoover So, you have a stack of lockbox keys in one inventory slot, and Zhat Vash lockboxes in another. You got a Number One ground pet on your first try–by far the most important item you can get. Now what? You could always put the rest on the Exchange, but Priority One Podcast thinks there's still value to be found. We think these prizes are worth the Zen you'll spend to unlock them. Dhailkhina Command Strike Wing Warbird: taking the highest risk for the highest reward? How very Romulan. Or you could cheat and get it off the Exchange for 690 million EC. Also very Romulan. Zhat Vash Disruptor Weapons: who doesn't like a weapon that adds its own stacking damage buff and reduces the target's damage resistance? Zhat Vash Venom Ground Trait: kind of gross, very entertaining. Plus, if your ground build is terrible you'll get a lot of mileage out of the death-triggered AoE attack. From Hell's heart I spray at thee! Choose to Live Ground Trait: very handy for your Klingon Recruit as they grind those melee kill objectives. (Current Exchange price:  Scopelyashi Maru AKA “A Million Ways to Die in the Test” By Shane Hoover We all know mobile developer Scopely as the studio that brings us Star Trek: Fleet Command. In a blog posted to the company site on February 11th, Scopely announced a new contest inviting players to beat Star Trek's infamous Kobayashi Maru scenario. Put your command abilities to the test against deadly dangers like Dagger Pox, hidden poison and, of course, Klingon ambush!  But “CONTEST?!” you say? Yes, Captains, if you're able to defeat this Kobayashi Maru faster than anyone else, you could win one of several big prizes. The First Prize winner takes home a lifetime subscription to Paramount Plus and an Original Series Captain Kirk Green Wrap tunic as seen on Season One. Second Prize includes a $500 Eaglemoss Ship Collectibles package, a Captain Kirk Standee, and a personalized Captain's Assignment Letter to the U.S.S. Enterprise. Then, in Gaming, Star Trek Online gets reactionary with it’s newest Legendary Ship offerings, and we finally break down our review of Anniversary’s featured episodes. Of course, as always, before we wrap up the show, we’ll open hailing frequencies for your incoming messages This Week’s Community Questions are: CQ: Where do you think Captain Archer might make an appearance? Picard, Strange New Worlds, or something new. If so what kind of story do you hope they tell about him? AND CQ: Are you getting the 2021 Legendary Ship Bundle, now that all the ships have been revealed and all the updates have been made? AND CQ: Will you be using a cloaked torpedo build on your Temer Raider? If not what kind of build will you use? Let us know on social media like Facebook, Twitter, or by visiting our website! TREK IT OUT Ronald D. Moore Makes a Move As the streaming wars heat up so does the struggle to keep highly talented show creators locked into deals at a single production studio. J.J. Abrahms made headlines recently jumping from Paramount to Warner Bros. and now the Hollywood Reporter is saying Star Trek alum Ronald D. Moore is making a move. Having produced shows for both Starz and Apple TV+ under Sony TV, Moore has secured a deal with Disney’s recently acquired 20th Television where he will start with a recreation of a Swiss Family Robinson series for Disney+. Moore seemed very excited about the move, saying “I grew up loving Disney movies, TV shows, and theme parks, and I still do to this day, so the chance to work on some of the same classic titles like Swiss Family Robinson was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up.” Moore will remain involved with both Outlander on Starz and For All Mankind on Apple TV+. We’re creating a better world. To bring it back to Trek, it’s the road to Star Trek. So what [does] the road to Star Trek entail? It entails becoming a better society.” For more information on Moore’s move to Disney and the full interview with Trek Movie, the links are in our show notes. Bob Bakish Talks Arms Dealing We’ve been talking on the show for a while now about CBS All Access – soon to be Paramount Plus – and how the broadcast home of Star Trek fits in among the plethora of streaming services out there. One analogy that we’ve overlooked is, perhaps surprisingly, “arms dealer.” At least, that’s what ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish calls it. We’ve talked in the past about how CBS has been a lot more cavalier with licensing its extensive library to other services. I can still watch star trek reruns on Netflix, for example. However, they’ve made it a habit to sell their new content off as well. According to an article on Bloomberg.com, they’ve sold an Aaron Sorkin drama to Netflix and a movie about Billie Holliday to Hulu. Oh, and that Coming to America sequel? Paramount made it, but Amazon is going to distribute it. And maybe worst of all, they sold a popular Western-themed series called Yellowstone to Peacock. Yeah… Peacock. According to the article, licensing deals like that account for nearly a quarter of the company’s revenue. And with movie theaters closed and the stiff competition among services, that’s money that they can’t afford to just give up. They can’t even pay to get their stuff back. According to the article, Peacock wouldn’t release ViacomCBS from the Yellowstone deal, so they’re just gonna make a prequel. Because if there’s one thing ViacomCBS and Paramount Plus know how to do, it’s how to do reboots and prequels that everyone loves. The Plot… they’re going back to the timey-wimey Pine Kirk meets Daddy Hemsworth. As if THAT wasn’t rumor enough, the article goes on to say that the studio is trying to get Shatner to appear as well! MORE RUMORS! While we’re on the topic of returning cast: Dietsch has a separate report suggesting that Scott Bakula -- who played Captain Jonathan Archer is Star Trek: Enterprise -- will come back to reprise the role on Star Trek: Picard. Then, unrelated, Star Trek Picard’s Showrunner made a tweet that was quickly removed… In it, he wrote, “Day One of many…” with a little film-camera emoji. On episode 360 of Comic Book Central, Billy Campbell -- who you might recall played Thadiun Okona on TNG’s Season 2 episode titled, “The Outrageous Okona” let slip that he’ll be returning to the role on Nickelodeon’s Star Trek: Prodigy! The B’Rel Bird of Prey and Vor’cha Command Support Battlecruiser will bring honor to the Empire, as the Excelsior Miracle Worker Heavy Cruiser and Temporal Support Cruiser represent Federation ships entwined with Klingon history. In-depth analyses will come after the Bundle is available, but we have some thoughts to share while we wait. Priority One wants to hear your opinions too, so analyze the ship stat links in our shownotes.  House Reborn: Treachery, Faith, and the Lava Flow By Thomas Reynolds Previously on Star Trek Online, the Klingon Civil War went south as J’Ula’s truth bombs jump-started an Imperial polyfaction spree. In “Knowledge is Power”, J’Ula’s friends (and not you) join Tenavik on her run-and-gun vision quest through the Boreth monastery. One bad trip leads to another, as they resurrect the late Chancellor L’Rell as an icon of reunification. What the time crystals left out is that her soul’s in Gre’thor so it’s time to do a little soul-searching. Don’t do time crystal, kids, it’s bad for you. “Leap of Faith” closes the loop with the whole gang suffocating themselves Flatliners-style to storm Gre’thor’s gates and liberate L’Rell. You meet Gowron in the Rio’s smoking area on your way to the Barge of the Dead and Fek’lhr’s throne. Gowron takes L’Rell’s place in Gre’thor–because, I mean, the Rio–but J’Ula makes a counteroffer: maybe J’mpok’s and Aakar’s souls instead? She was going to kill them anyway–but first, you have a lot of demons between you and the waking world. House Reborn is another two-mission addition you could call an episode (we won’t, but that targ’s been beaten to death already). The Klingon Civil War only totals six missions, but might be STO’s most engaging story since the Iconian War ended. We’re not dissing Victory is Life in any way, but make this a miniseries and we’re there with the popcorn. Three Houses down, and it’s clear STO’s writers aren’t afraid of the narrative swerve. What separates this from what we see on CBS Al–sorry, Paramount Plus, is that the hard pivots are plausible. This is the Star Trek we wish was on TV...but as we’ll see later, that might not be all good. Talking about TV: with Chieffo, O’Reilly, and Hurtzler behind the mic, is anyone surprised that the voice acting’s so good? It’s an out-and-out pleasure to have them back in our Trekkie lives, ridges or no ridges. J’Ula and Adet’pa are mostly the game’s invention, but Mara Junot and Rehka Sharma make them worthy of screen time. Let’s Talks Gameplay By Thomas Reynolds Pivoting to gameplay…eehhh. The missions are very different, so we’ll address each individually, but in ten words or less? More–and more–of the same. “Knowledge is Power” follows the traditional formula of “warp in, [BEEP] things up, warp out.” Space combat as Captain Yourself bookends a protracted slog as J’Ula around the monastery.  J’You’La is also the strike-from-shadows type of matriarch, not a drag-out brawler, making it even more tedious. Go back and watch the engineering room cutscene in “Secrets.” See what she has with her? Mobs of goons providing cover fire and Ripper chow. You will draw aggro as the largest damage source on your side, and the hypospray can’t recharge fast enough. The curse of competence, I guess. Bless Cryptic for reinforcing hand-to-hand combat’s prominence in Klingon culture, religion, children’s birthday parties, and the Qo’noS dating scene. The game just isn’t suited to it. This is painfully apparent as you spam J’Ula’s single melee attack in one-button battles of attrition. If there’s an upside, the cathartic thrill of every...single...kill...you...make...is very Klingon. So, uh, immersion? How About A “Leap Of Faith”? By Thomas Reynolds In comparison “Leap of Faith” is a lot easier: you’re yourself again, with your crew and the loadouts you’re used to. Escaping Gre’thor is actually a plot point with a clear narrative start and end. The space battle can be a challenge even at Normal, and not just from how long the portals stay open. Say what you will about Fer’ang dreadnoughts as event ships: they’re a lot more beastly when pointed at you. However as associate producer Shane put it, “Surface Tension’ is long. Born April 21st, the youngest of three boys, Colin Amey hails from Dunnville, Ontario but spent most of his childhood in Whitehorse, where the cold Canadian Yukon did nothing to cool his driving passion to be a singer and songwriter. At a young and early age, Colin's early influences came from listening to the radio and watching the hits on MuchMusic, where the performances of Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen inspired his young heart. In the small town of Marmora, Ontario, at the Country Fair, three-year-old Colin Amey won Second Prize in the Annual Junior Talent Show, giving a heartfelt rendition of 'Delta Dawn'.   He continued to enter local and regional talent competitions, usually placing first, hands down. When the family moved and settled back in Ontario, Colin began a stretch of singing demos and jingles in a small studio, then released his first single in 1988, a pop power ballad “Gonna Last Foreve”, with a video to follow that received national airplay. The stage was set, and he began writing material to record his first CD, released a few singles that received some airplay and started on his way to being hooked on songwriting.  Colin eventually teamed up with the legendary Barry Brown (formerly of Family Brown) to collaborate on his second album, gaining radio recognition with two singles that included the title track 'What My Heart Don't Know' and 'If I Didn't Call It Love'.This radio awareness of his career garnered Colin two nominations that included Independent Male Artist and Rising Star at the Canadian Country Music Awards.Looking for new direction, Colin moved into the Greater Toronto Area, and began collaborating with Thomas Wade, Jamie Warren and also with Brian Allen who co-penned the hit song, 'What About Love' for the American Rock band, Heart. Colin continued to co-write with the likes of Dean McTaggart, known for penning the hit song, 'Birmingham' performed by Amanda Marshall, and songwriter Tim Taylor, who's written many hits with and for the likes of Aaron Pritchett, Gord Bamford & The Road Hammers, just to name a few.  The year 2006, brought the release of his third album 'Getaway' produced by award winning producer, Rick Hutt, with credits for his work with Tom Cochrane, Northern Pikes, Gil Grande, and Jamie Warren.  The "Getaway" record spawned half a dozen radio singles, including the title track, which was added on medium rotation at many major market radio stations nation wide. Over time, Colin continued writing with good friend, Thomas Wade and sang on numerous demos and recording projects, which eventually led to the formation of "Wade Amey Wade." In November 2011, they released the Christmas single, "I Can't Wait for Christmas" and donated all download sales to the Sean Hogan's Christmas Wish. In 2012, when Wade Amey Wade disbanded, Colin was free to pursue his solo career once again.  In 2013, Colin released a 5 song EP, entitled "Just Do What You Do" which included a remake of the mid 80s hit from Kim Mitchell, "Go For A Soda" which coincided with a video released to Youtube. Over the past several years, Amey has been releasing singles to radio and iTunes, including "Sunday Drive, Drinkin' Time”, “A Million Tears Ago”, and “Welcome To the World" which happens to be a very personal song about the very day his daughter, Ryleigh was born. With the current global pandemic, like many other artists, Colin is performing online shows on Facebook Live, and currently gearing up to release a brand new single cowritten with Hamilton guitarist and band mate, Darren Lachance. The track is entitled “Life Goes By” and will be going to radio in early July of 2020. https://colinamey.ca/https://www.facebook.com/ColinDAmeyhttps://www.allmusic.com/artist/colin-amey-mn0001936210https://twitter.com/colinamey1?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthorhttps://www.instagram.com/colinamey1/?hl=enhttps://music.apple.com/us/artist/colin-amey/83934322https://open.spotify.com/artist/67irjD3ABHK8fvIqnr4Ugp

He wanted to tell a story with his skills in choreography using the tools available to him. Episode 80 of the SBP Podcast Mobile Filmmaking is an in-depth conversation with Jamiel Laurence, awarded Second Prize in the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego.Even though his film has a theme of isolation, ironically, it was submitted to IMFF 2020, in 2019. Jamiel had access to cameras from filmmaking friends, but he chose to use his iPhone. Benched, is his only his second mobile film. It was “filmed within the grounds of the iconic Kelvingrove Park.”He has a lifetime experience in dance, music, and drama which began in childhood. He studied ballet and is now a soloist by profession. His mother was a dancer who taught modern, contemporary dance and jazz.Jamiel opened up to share his choreography techniques with film which involves camera movement as a dancer, and incorporating it into the cinematography. His techniques are creative and talented. His process brings the world of movement through dance and music together with film, and cinematography, through storytelling.“Long-running one shots” in mobile film take serious precision to accomplish. Even with traditional professional cameras, it requires skill and experience. But with smartphones it’s risky. There is a spectrum of available settings with a camera which are not available with smartphone cameras. To achieve a moving shot with a duration of more than just a few seconds is quite an accomplishment, which a professional camera person can appreciate.Jamiel spoke about the dancers who place their trust in Jamiel’s performance during filming. During the conversation with Jamiel, he brings light to the aspect of his own performance using motion to capture the dance performance. It sheds light to the benefit of using a small, light filming device such as a smartphone to capture the long lasting moment expressed in dance. We discuss the other aspect of the dance driving his films: Music. Jamiel has made a point of accomplishing trust and integrity with musical artists he engages with in his profession. A big part of his filmmaking budget goes to the music.Jamie Reid is the dancer in his film. He is from Glasgow and knows the city and Scotland who helped Jamiel select the location for his film. Jamiel refers to the location as one of the characters on his film, along with the bench. The story of the film is interactive in the way that is interpreted by the viewer. The emotions expressed by the actor and dancer allow the story to evolve through the performance.“Love Stained” was his latest film created just before the current situation the world is in and now, stuck in isolation as most of us are, he keeps pushing his creativity through a series called “Mobile Isolation Creations.”SBP Podcast: The Voice of Mobile Film™ is for everyone who ever wanted to or is curious about making movies and videos using smartphones.

A Story Told Through A Smartphone Camera Makes An Impact with Alexandra Guillossou

Before we all had access to an exceptional camera built right into our smartphones, we could not share stories like we do today. Our Community Stories program for mobile film was created to fill that need. Episode 63 of the SBP Podcast: The Voice of Mobile Film™ shares the story of Alexandra Guillossou, the Second Prize winner of IMFF 2019. People from all walks of life, people who are not professional videographers or filmmakers, or even those who are, simply did not have access to their cameras when the opportunity arises to capture our stories. Community Stories is about sharing stories through filmmaking using smartphone cameras as a participating member of a community or culture. Alexandra Guillossou was on vacation spending time with her family. Her brother has Multiple Sclerosis and as a member of the family, Alexandra began to record her family out by the lake. As she did so, she began to think about focusing on her brother and capturing her brother who is dealing with MS. Later, as she watched her footage, she decided to make documentary to share her family’s story. When she submitted the film to the International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego it was a film with a good story that we decided to select and screen in the festival. So I contacted Alexandra and notified her about how her film qualified as a Community Story and offered her the opportunity to present her film as such, in San Diego.Alexandra Guillossou won Second Prize at the film festival and also won an Honorary Award from a selection of judges made up by winners of the Global Mobile Film Awards™, Matteo Tibiletti who won Best Experimental with “Yes, No” and Brian Hennings who won Best Cinematography with “Focus.” The films participating in the GMFA Honorary Award contest were only short films from attending filmmakers participating during the film festival in San Diego. We asked Alexandra to share the experience of going back to visit with her family and telling her brother his story won. During this episode, we discuss a topic I hope our listeners find informative and motivating. We address the power of how our films should be focused on storytelling because it can bring people together. We find ourselves spending most of our time connecting with technology and stories help us feel human emotions and I believe stories help us connect to our humanity. We also discuss the trend in mobile filmmaking where people are sharing formulas and processes for making films with smartphones at the risk of destroying the opportunity that mobile filmmaking brings to storytellers without filmmaking experience to realize their dream. The democratization of mobile filmmaking is worthy of preserving and it has many different genres, and creates new genres too. Alexandra inspires us. All of us. Alexandra made a film with her phone without filmmaking experience and her film touches people in ways that it has been selected in different film festivals and has already won awards. Most of us create things and we do not realize the potential of our creations. Some of us don’t even believe something we create can have an impact in some way or win awards. But after listening to her story, I hope you are inspired to go for it. You will never know your potential until you complete it and put it out there. If you like what you made, don’t hold back. SBP Podcast: The Voice of Mobile Film™ is for everyone who ever wanted to or is curious about making movies and videos using smartphones.International Mobile Film Festival in San Diego is open for submissions right now for feature length films and short films. If you shot your film with a smartphone, submit your film to our film festival, and if you can, make a point of attending in beautiful San Diego.Watch the trailer for “The Deepest Cut”: https://youtu.be/cm-kLe74om4Follow Alexandra and her film online: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/deepestcutdoc/Twitter:https://twitter.com/onemousecreativOur Links: Submit a short or feature length mobile film to IMFF 2020: https://internationalmobilefilmfestival.com/mff/rulesSubscribe, support and listen to bonus episodes and more on Patreon: http://patreon.com/sbppodcastSBP Podcast Blog: http://sbppodcast.wordpress.comSBP Podcast Website: http://sbppodcast.studioiTunes/Apple Podcasts: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/sbp-podcast/id1296673665International Mobile Film Festival Website: http://internationalmobilefilmfestival.comFacebook: http://facebook.com/sbppodcastTwitter: http://twitter.com/sbppodcastMFTV (Mobile Film Network Distribution Channel): http://MobileChannel.tvHashtag: MobilizeStories Mobile Film Community Website: http://mobilizestories.comSusy Botello on Twitter: http://twitter.com/susybotelloSBP Podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4ISEF0SZOLyRpw20loXzlo#upsellSmartphone Filmmaking Publication on Medium: https://medium.com/smartphonefilmmakingAre you starting a Podcast? Aris Tyros lives in Toronto, Canada. He was one of the filmmakers who traveled to San Diego for the 6th annual International Mobile Film Festival. He flew home with the trophy for Second Prize with his film shot with an iPhone 6S: How I Became A Movie Theatre Murderer. Aris’ film was the first film submitted to the festival. The film was also nominated for Best Director award at the Global Mobile Film Awards, which is an Awards Ceremony dubbed as the “Oscars” of the mobile film industry. Two days before the recording of this podcast, Aris won the award for Best Director.Episode 9 of the SBP Podcast interviews Aris about how his film began with a concern about what to do in a situation, such as the incident which took place in 2012 where a man shot and killed people inside a movie theater. His concern travelled from inside his mind into his pocket as he reached for his smartphone and used it to turn his concern into a story and then crafted a movie to share with the entire world.Aris shares his feelings about winning the award and then he shares how he developed the film from start to finish. We talk about acquiring the location, a movie theater, for his movie and why he insisted in using a real movie theater even after being turned down, due to the nature of his film. The app he used to film it. How he achieved the sound for his film, and why he made the decisions he made. We discussed lighting and gave some tips on achieving good lighting for a smartphone film. Aris shared his VR (Virtual Reality) film project and we discussed the VR trend as well.Since we are leaving 2017, we asked Aris what his plans are for 2018 and he shares another idea which he may turn into a movie next year.We also asked him to share tips and tricks for anyone planning to make a VR film which is available as a bonus episode exclusively on our Patreon page for subscribers who support us as a token of gratitude. www.Patreon.com/sbppodcastThe movie Aris won the awards with is 5 minutes long because in order to qualify for the International Mobile Film Festival’s short film competition, the films have to be no longer than five minutes.
