What if becoming unshakable has less to do with pushing harder and more to do with learning how to recover? In this solo episode of Becoming Unshakable, I'm talking about something leaders often undervalue until they have already hit the wall: intentional recovery. We spend so much time thinking about performance, results, responsibility, and caring for the people around us that it can become easy to overlook the person carrying all of that weight. But sustained performance requires capacity, and capacity has to be restored. I share why I believe leaders should begin thinking of themselves as high-performance corporate athletes. We look at what we can learn from athletes like LeBron James and the Williams sisters, who invest enormous amounts of time and attention into maintaining the bodies and minds that allow them to perform at the highest level. That same thinking applies inside our workplaces. I talk about rebalancing workloads, creating white space in calendars, paying attention to team capacity, and building recovery practices into everyday life. That might mean sleeping, walking, meditation, prayer, hydration, quiet thinking time, or simply creating enough space to stop operating in constant reaction mode. I also share a moment from my own leadership journey when I realized I had added one more responsibility to an already overwhelmed team member. It forced me to reconsider what was on her plate, what could be delegated, and what leadership looks like when we take capacity seriously. Most importantly, this episode examines the inward side of caring leadership. Caring for others matters deeply, but we cannot continually give people the best of ourselves while giving ourselves whatever happens to be left over. I learned that lesson by hitting more walls than I would have liked. My hope is that after listening to this, you don't have to. What would change if you began treating your own recovery as seriously as you treat your responsibilities to everyone else? Listen to the episode and share your thoughts with me.

0:00 ... Ross hello and welcome ... introduces the panel and dedicates show #264 to Lakers legend Elgin Baylor, the first NBA player to score 64 points in a game. 1:05 ... Giannis Antetokounmpo has a new Heat teammate in future Hall of Famer Klay Thompson. The guys discuss this very important pickup and how he brings a winning mentality and still effective three point shooting to the table in Miami. 7:29 ... Jonathan Kuminga is the newest member of the Timberwolves and it's a huge opportunity for the "soon to be" 24 year old to finally reach his potential after years of frustration in Golden State and a short stint in Atlanta. 13:05 ... The New Orleans Pelicans have signed Bennedict Mathurin, the former Pacer and Clipper. It's a team friendly deal that gives this "bucket getter" a chance to increase his value and hopefully cash in after one season in NOLA. He'll need to improve his defense and passing but it's a reasonable gamble for GM Joe Dumars to take. 17:46 ... The guys all have three regular season games circled that they're looking forward to seeing. Bruce starts us off with last season's Western Conference finals rematch on opening night (Thunder vs Spurs). 18:46 ... Next up is World B with Nuggets vs Thunder 20:22 ... Ross's first choice is Timberwolves vs Heat in both team's opener 20:49 ... Bruce is looking forward to Jaylen Brown's return to Boston with his 76ers in late January. 21:33 ... World B likes the first Pistons/Knicks matchup and reminds everyone that Detroit dominated the Knicks last season. 22:57 ... Ross can't wait to see LeBron James and the 76ers on their first visit to the LA for a Christmas Day game against the Lakers. 23:23 ... Bruce looks forward or the first head to head matchup between the last two number one overall picks (Cooper Flagg and AJ Dybantsa) when the Mavericks host the Wizards in March. 24:14 ... World B likes the Lakers and Timberwolves as Luka Doncic and Anthony Edwards face off on December 16th. 25:23 .... Word Association ... Dennis Schroeder 26:42 .... Moussa Diabate 27:53 ... Pat Riley 28:32 ... Andre Drummond 29:41 ... Draymond Green 30:25 ... Luka Doncic 31:46 ... Alperen Sengun 33:06 ... James Harden 35:37 ... Bobby Portis 36:31 ... Wilt Chamberlain 38:14 ... Mat Ishbia (Suns Owner) 39:43 ... Karl-Anthony Towns 40:53 ... LeBron James just left the Lakers for a shot at one more championship with the 76ers, and JP Nerbun, Betsy Butterick, and Nate Sanderson use that move to dig into a question every coach eventually faces: what do you actually do with a player who has more talent, or more influence, than anyone else on your roster? They unpack why coaches say nobody's bigger than the team but quietly lower standards the moment real talent shows up, what goes wrong when a superstar joins an established locker room without any groundwork, and why the best programs have the hard conversations about fit before signing day, not after.Whether you're managing one dominant player or an entire roster of big personalities, this conversation will change how you think about talent, standards, and what it costs to hold both at once.Chapters(00:00) Intro(01:41) Would We Take a LeBron?(03:46) When Personality Clashes With Culture(07:52) Sport and Context Matter(10:47) Every Problem Player Is Different(13:49) Where Coaches Go Wrong Early(18:09) Committing to Keep Talking(22:52) Finding Shared Purpose(26:14) Coaching the Team, Not Just the Star(29:25) Individual Identity vs. Team Identity(33:57) Doing the Work Before Signing Day(36:32) When the Coach Takes the FallTOC 3-2-13 Quotes | 2 Questions | 1 ResourceYour fast-track to the episode's most actionable ideas."We say nobody's bigger than the team out loud, but when the rubber meets the road, we drop standards for the superstar."- J.P. In this episode, host Bidemi Ologunde examines the career, analytical philosophy, and remarkable adaptability of Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra, who rose from the organization's video room to become the NBA's longest-tenured active head coach, a two-time NBA champion, six-time NBA Finals coach, and the newly appointed head coach of the USA Men's National Team for the 2027 FIBA World Cup and 2028 Olympic Games. How has Spoelstra continually redesigned his systems around dramatically different rosters, from the LeBron James era to Miami's more recent underdog playoff runs? What role do film study, statistical evidence, matchup data, experimentation, and unconventional defensive schemes play in his decision-making? The episode explores how Spoelstra has used switching, zone defenses, blitzes, drop coverages, and constant tactical variation to keep opponents solving new problems, while building an organizational culture capable of sustaining competitiveness across nearly two decades. What can leaders beyond basketball learn from a coach whose greatest competitive advantage may be his willingness to keep adapting?

Many people never reach their potential not because they lack talent, but because fear, doubt, and adversity stop them before they even begin. Today's guest, Audley Stephenson, has spent nearly two decades proving that an “audacious” approach to life can change everything. From being rejected as a sports TV intern to interviewing NBA legends like Kobe and LeBron, becoming a professional basketball commissioner, and rebuilding his purpose after the pandemic, Audley has turned setbacks into fuel for growth. On Marketer of the Day, Audley shares the heart behind his brand and body of work: the BOLD framework: Better than yesterday, Outlast adversity, Live your truth, Disrupt the norm. He explains why audacity isn't reckless; it's intentional. It's the engine under the hood that pushes you past hesitation when that inner voice says, “Who do you think you are?” Drawing from nearly 700 episodes of The Audacious Living Podcast and his upcoming book, “Living Your Best Audacious Life Ever: How Unleashing Your Inner Greatness Can Change the World,” he breaks down how ordinary people can make courageous choices, one small bold step at a time. Audley goes deep on the real-life challenges behind his message navigating divorce, false accusations, incarceration, fatherhood, and the emotional roller coaster of reconnecting with a parent he never knew, only to lose him a few years later. Through those experiences, he refined the “Outlast Adversity” pillar of BOLD: you can't control the storm, but you can control how you bunker down, endure it, and rebuild stronger afterward. He also unpacks the crucial difference between confidence and courage, arguing that courage comes first; you act before you feel ready, and confidence shows up later as a byproduct of action.Along the way, Audley talks about how he almost walked away from podcasting despite being known as a podcaster because of nagging self-doubt when he tried to restart during the pandemic. His story becomes a case study in how repetition, “getting your reps in,” and refusing to quit turns awkward first attempts into mastery. He challenges the myth of being “self-made,” showing how mentors, encouragers, and even one-off kind words have shaped his journey and how each of us can become that positive force for others. https://youtu.be/EfygD-HHsrQ?si=zVYfF395Jq8canH- This conversation is packed with mindset shifts and practical philosophy for creators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who feel called to more but are held back by fear or circumstances. If you're ready to tap into your inner greatness, lead through your actions, and create a ripple effect that touches lives you'll never meet, Audley's audacious approach might be the spark you need. Quotes: “The audacity is the engine inside of our cars that determines how fast and how far we go, and we all have it; it's just a matter of unlocking it, tapping into it, and hitting the gas pedal.” “There's a belief that I have to have confidence before I have the courage to do something, and it's actually the other way around; courage comes first, confidence follows.” “If my actions are inspiring others to dream more, do more, and become more, then I'm a leader, but I don't take that action unless I have the audacity to do so.” Contact Details: Ready to Live Audaciously? The Rickey Smiley Morning Show packed the conversation with headline-making news, candid celebrity revelations, and inspirational moments. The show opened with the latest developments in the Karmelo Anthony case after a Texas judge denied the teenager’s request for a new trial, leaving his murder conviction and 35-year sentence in place while his legal team continues its appeal efforts. Recent reports indicate the retrial request centered on evidence and courtroom procedures that the defense argued were not fully presented to jurors, but the court ultimately upheld the original verdict. The crew also debated parenting and self-defense after Cardi B revealed she has enrolled her children in boxing classes and wants them to be able to protect themselves and, one day, defend her if necessary. Adding a more personal and meaningful conversation, singer Kehlani opened up about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder, explaining how therapy, medication, and understanding her triggers have transformed her life and improved her mental health journey. The show also celebrated a major career milestone for Jeezy, who was surprised by LeBron James with a Key to the City of Las Vegas during the finale of his “Legend of the Snowman” residency. Rather than ending the residency, Jeezy announced additional dates through New Year’s Eve, showing continued demand for the Atlanta rap icon. Listeners were also treated to Money Mondays with Jini Thornton, who shared practical advice on helping aging parents organize their finances, legal documents, and long-term care plans before a crisis occurs. Other trending topics included Jamie Foxx preparing to welcome another child, tributes to late actor Michael Wright of The Five Heartbeats, and a lively discussion about mental health, family, and protecting loved ones while navigating life’s challenges.
