What happens when a Catholic nun in Poland chooses to leave her religious community? Nuns are rejecting their orders after experiencing what they now regard as abuse. Some say they have even been sexually abused by priests. Izabela Moscicka recently made this journey. She stopped being a nun and is now living independently in Krakow. She knows how hard it can be, so she is setting up an aid centre for nuns and former nuns, who are looking for assistance and refuge. For the first time, Izabela shares her life story, the realities of the day to day life of Polish nuns, and the difficulties they have if they decide to leave the church.

In the wake of September 11, 2001, federal law enforcement agencies were caught flatfooted when they realized that they'd had the intel to prevent the attack on the homeland, but they'd failed to connect those dots. Fusion centers were born out of an abundance of caution to share and streamline counterterrorism information between the federal level and state and local levels. Since then, the Department of Homeland Security has supported the development of a national network of 80 fusion centers across the United States. And while its principle goal initially was to disseminate counterterrorism intel from the state and local levels, it's now expanded to include the sharing of intelligence regarding crimes or hazards more broadly. Last month, the Brennan Center released a report entitled, “Ending Fusion Center Abuses,” explaining how fusion centers' domestic intelligence model has undermined American's privacy, civil rights, and civil liberties. Lawfare legal fellow Saraphin Dhanani sat down with Michael German, a fellow with the Brennan Center for Justice's Liberty and National Security Program, who co-authored the report, as well as Thomas Warrick, a non-resident senior fellow at the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security Forward Defense Practice at the Atlantic Council. Tantra yoga as a practice and tradition is often misunderstood and misinterpreted, particularly when tantra yoga in the modern yoga context tries to align with the teachings and foundations of classical tantra yoga. Modern yoga students may be quite surprised to learn that many of the elements of their yoga practice are rooted in classical tantra from centuries ago and that placing sexual activities at the heart of tantra is a recent construct that originated in the 20th century. Tantra as a subject is deeply complex, with a history and philosophy that converges and diverges throughout the yogic timeline. From the show notes: As a child, Daniel had always believed there was more to the world than what met the eye, but the education system taught him that this wasn't the case. Science held the answers to everything, and if science couldn't answer a mystery, then there was no merit to it. So every feeling he had which strayed from mainstream thinking, became tucked away in the back of my head. And like so many others in our world, he became one of the herd. Fast-forward a decade: nothing felt right; there was no fulfillment in my life, then BAM! He was struck down with an autoimmune disorder - which greatly diminished his ability to function in the world. As a firm believer in science, he spent the next 6 years visiting new doctors, clinging on to the belief that only they could fix him. One day I took a good hard look in the mirror and said to himself,” we've got to find another way.” A couple in a class he has taken asked him if he'd every tried a past life regression and it sparked his interest enough that 6 months later, he gave it a try. While his first past life regression experience didn't completely heal his autoimmune disorder, he left with a new perspective on life: after the experience he had just had, he was made a firm believer in past lives. “That means there will be a next life.
