An emotional connection often exists between creatives and our creations. We want to have an influence and an impact with what we do. So it’s easy to take it personally when people either like or dislike our work. Yet there are many ways to stay in control when putting your creations out into the world. Key Takeaways When presenting early drafts to clients, the less you critique, the better. Second-guessing your work to your clients can lead down the wrong path of unnecessary revisions. Instead, focus on what you’re excited and happy about. As creatives, we’re trying to strike a balance between sharing what we do with the world while still turning a profit. To maintain that balance over the long-run, you need to constantly reassess your process. Sometimes it means growing a team. Other times, you’ll need to take on more roles yourself. About Josiah Moore Josiah Moore is a freelance director and editor from upstate New York. Josiah stays busy in all aspects of music video production, be it client communication, shooting, building sets, and late nights editing. Balancing Creativity and Business It can be tough striking a balance as both creatives and entrepreneurs. Josiah knows the experience of creating projects that then become the property of his clients. It’s difficult to create something that is yours only to hand ownership of it to someone else. Josiah finds that making his own behind-the-scenes videos is to share with his followers is a great creative outlet. Passion projects are also a great way to stay motivated to do what you love. The Value of Good Communication As someone who handles so many aspects of a production, Josiah finds that upfront communication with clients is paramount. Letting them know the revision process and what it will cost prevents scope creep. Being clear on the shooting and editing schedule will keep things on track. Most of all, being in clear communication about your process and pricing builds and maintains the relationships that will drive your business in the long run. What’s your long-term plan? Do you have a plan for retirement? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! What’s your revision process like? Let’s talk about it in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode: The process of profiting with music videos [5:19] Using behind-the-scene footage to engage with an audience [7:15] The emotional vulnerability that accompanies our creative works [11:30] Harnessing efficiency to maximize profitability [17:15] Different ways to approach the revision process [21:12] [25:16] How to consider the long-term aspects of freelance work [30:00] Why gear lust will stunt your growth [38:56] Quotes “How can I engage with and grow an audience that is invested in me as a creative rather than the people I work for?” [8:47] “I’ve been finding when I really try to strip back and try to do the bare minimum and grind a little bit harder and take on a couple more roles myself, it’s really not going to hurt the project. We’re going to be able to be that much quicker, more efficient, and profitable.” [18:50] “I think the struggle is that, as a creative person, I often find myself falling into thinking that whatever my latest work is is how I present myself. I don’t think that has to be the case. I still think you can have passion projects.” [37:54] Links: Sign up for the free Studio Sherpas Webclass Storyblocks Find Josiah Moore online Follow Josiah on Instagram | Twitter | YouTube Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? Jim is a gringo with a passion for adventure. Born in Rochester, Minnesota. Jim is an audio and video producer who had built a fascinating career in the music scene of his city. Recording all kinds of musicians in his studio he felt like he needed a new challenge. That’s when a friend told him about the same website May has just signed up for italki. That’s how Jim and May met back in 2010. After months chatting and Skyping, they finally met in real life in Guadalajara, Mexico for the first time.Traveling together through Mexico, Jim and May decided to combine their passions of traveling, teaching, and audio-video production to create Spanish and Go. Women in Business: Inspirational Stories of Women Entrepreneurs
When women live in their truth and share their stories through business, success happens. Connection happens when you share; your audience will feel like they know you and this connection definitely helps your business grow. Eleanor Beaton is here to talk about using your story to fuel your business. Eleanor started sharing her personal story when she lost her father to cancer and found that this vulnerability opened her up to her audience in a much more authentic way. Put yourself first and pursue your own agenda unapologetically. That’s the best way to give yourself permission to take charge of your life and business. When you’re living and speaking in alignment with who you are and your story, you’ll find all the confidence and power you need. Eleanor really drives home the point that women who are unapologetically themselves create more space at the table for themselves and others. Eleanor also makes a great point that when we’re getting our businesses ready to scale, we should also make sure that WE are scalable as well. Are you in a space where you’re confident to allow yourself to grow? Being comfortable having hard conversations is vital to your success as a female entrepreneur. Eleanor explains how you can contribute meaningfully to these conversations in order to grow. Finally, Eleanor talks about what you need to do in order to be aligned with your public image and visibility. From showing up authentically online to practicing what you preach, you need to be your true self at all times. It’s for the benefit of, not just you, but for your business. We as women in leadership can’t be what you can’t see.” (8:06) “What gets us to the next place is about relinquishing that control, building a team, coordinating people behind that vision, and owning your piece of that, but understanding that owning a piece of it means that you can’t own the whole thing.” (19:55) “What we’re ultimately trying to do is change the face of business to really make it more diverse, to really bring more women to the tables, and I think we’ve got to do that inside our big power structures, which are still major corporates, and we also have to change it from the outside, too, through that movement of women’s entrepreneurship.” (26:03) “When you’re in the arena, it’s so interesting the way the nature of the conversation between two people who are in the arena getting their butt kicked is completely different than the peanut gallery.” (37:45) Links Sign up for Radical Conviction! Erectile dysfunction is a pretty common thing that affects men as they get older. Erectile dysfunction affects more than just a man’s sexual performance, it impacts his confidence, relationship, and other aspects of his health. Orest Komarnyckyj from Old Guy Talks is here to talk about what we can do to help our partners with erectile dysfunction. The most important thing to understand about erectile dysfunction is that it’s more common than you think. There are so many different treatment options out there, both medical and natural, but it really does come down to trial and error until you find one that works for your partner. I also share some supplements he can take to support his sexual health. Talking about problems in the bedroom are never easy, but once you approach the subject calmly and openly, it will be easier to talk about. Your partner is very likely embarrassed that they’re experiencing erectile dysfunction, so reassure him that he’s not alone. Encourage him to seek out qualified medical practitioners, more than someone who’s just going to give him a little blue pill and move on to the next patient, to try to find the root cause of his erectile dysfunction. Because even though erectile dysfunction medicine might work at first, a lot of it won’t be effective long-term. Orest explains what else happens to a man’s body when he takes ED medication for a prolonged period of time. Did you know that erectile dysfunction medication is actually rising in popularity among young men because of the unrealistic expectations set by pornography? Orest talks about the alternative options, some natural and some medical, that are available instead of erectile dysfunction medication. He also shares the first steps you and your partner can take in order to regain your sex life. Sex into older age is possible and we all deserve a healthy sex life with our partners. Does your partner have erectile dysfunction? What medication is your partner taking? How are you going to approach having a conversation about sexual health with your partner? In This Episode: What other aspects of men’s health erective dysfunction impacts Why you and your partner shouldn’t give up if the first treatment option doesn’t work for him What supplements your partner can take to support men’s sexual health How you can start talking about erectile dysfunction Why you need to have these intimate discussions with your partner What happens to the body when your partner takes erectile dysfunction medication What alternatives to erectile dysfunction medications are available What the first steps you and your partner can take to help them through erectile dysfunction Quotes: “We’re all really different on this stuff. Some things are going to work well for some people. For others, everything’s going to work. And for some people, it’s a journey of discovery for what’s going to work and a lot of times, it’s not going to be just one treatment.” (8:46) “Erectile dysfunction is a thief because in many ways it robs you of emotional and physical intimacy that is so necessary to have a quality relationship.” (16:03) “Being able to be sexually functional is very important to your reality, your essence, as a man.” (29:19) Links Sign up for free Erectile Dysfunction Videos Find Orest Komarnyckyj Online Find Orest Komarnyckyj on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | Pinterest | YouTube Join the KetoGreen Community on Facebook Buy The Hormone Fix Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

Reclaim the power of your sexual pleasure and start healing your relationship with my program, Sexual CPR. When I was having trouble in my marriage after losing my son before he was born, I wish I knew about the techniques that I know now. Sexual CPR is helping women and men rekindle their marriage and increase their sexual desire. In the United States, there is so much focus, funding, and research on men’s sexual health. Women’s sexual health, on the other hand, is sorely lacking in understanding. I’ve conducted my own research and spoken to experts in both men’s and women’s sexual health and created Sexual CPR. Cortisol is our stress hormone. Ane when it’s raised in our bodies, our oxytocin, or love, levels decrease. This leaves us feeling unloveable and incapable of giving love. But when our cortisol levers are low, oxytocin has a chance to work the way it’s supposed to - letting us feel, give, and receive the love we deserve. When we learn to reignite our sexual enjoyment, with or without the presence of sexual intimacy, we’re giving ourselves permission to feel happy and enjoy our life again. This not only improves our moods but improves our relationship as well. In order to get here, you need to experience your pleasure. What turns you on? What makes you happy? Spend time exploring these avenues for yourself, so that you can, in turn, help your partner make you happy. Because the number one turn on for men is our pleasure. In this episode, I’m going through the content of Sexual CPR and sharing all the incredible experts who have joined me to create this one-of-a-kind program. You’ll learn how to redefine your orgasm, rekindle your sexual pleasure, and reignite your relationship. Are you having trouble connecting with your partner? How do you define your sexual pleasure? Do you have difficulty reaching orgasm? In This Episode: How men’s sexual health is a much more funded and researched area than women’s sexual health What happens when our cortisol levels go down What happens to our lives when we ignite our sexual enjoyment, even outside of sexual intimacy Why you need to experience your pleasure, know what turns you on, and know what makes you happy How having happiness in your relationship and sex life has an overflowing effect on the rest of your life What you’ll learn in Sexual CPR How you can redefine your orgasm Why rekindling your sexual pleasure starts with you Quotes: “When cortisol goes up, oxytocin, which is our bonding hormone, our hormone of love and connection, goes down. The hormone that gives us the sense and the feeling of love goes down.” (7:06) “Our bodies are intended for pleasure. Taking the time to experience that is critical.” (14:00) “The number one turn on for men is your pleasure. What makes you happy brings him pleasure. Your turn on is his turn on.” (15:16) “Creating happiness on a daily basis gives you the pleasure that fuels you into more pleasurable activities. [130] While some are born to take on challenges and go for gold at every given opportunity, most people will do their best to perform but need guidance and defined goals. Despite this well-known fact, staff targets get a bad rap: they don't work, or they're too much effort to manage. Even from the employee's perspective, there's often a pushback. A shift in how to approach them can solve all of that. If what you're saying to your staff looks anything like this: "I need you to do this and reach these numbers by x, without any support whatsoever," it's no wonder things aren't working. Featuring Sean O'Sullivan (Phorest Education Manager), this week's episode focuses on all things staff targets: how to set and manage them, get employee buy-in as well as encourage team collaboration. Sometimes, the things we learn from travel creep up on us in a cumulative way. Other times, one trip teaches us so much and just whacks us in the head and makes us change something significant about our lives! And this episode of The Thoughtful Travel Podcast is definitely about the latter situation. First up I talk to Dean O'Shea who took off on a huge challenge to hike the Pacific Crest Trail in California when he was 22 - and he chose it purely because it was the longest, hardest journey listed in his mother's book of long, hard journeys! What happened in and after California is not what you'd expect - and certainly not what Dean expected either - but it changed his life in some significant ways. I then chat with Seng Mah, a friend of mine here in Perth who has long told me that going to India is life-changing for many people (and yes, I'm now convinced I need to go there sometime!). Seng's first experience of travelling through India gave him so many insights and new perspectives that his life then changed very significantly, changes that have lasted now for a decade. I want to start this by outing myself as an absolute school nerd. As in, I used to “assign” myself summer book reports in elementary and middle school. I would gladly be an eternal student — if I could get paid just to go to school and learn for the rest of my life, I’d be in heaven. So when I hear my clients saying things like, “I’m not really sure what I’m passionate about or what kind of career I want, so I’m thinking about going back to grad school to figure it out,” I’ll admit that my first split-second reaction is, “Yeah, school!” But even I have to admit that going back to grad school isn’t always the right answer to the question, “What am I supposed to do with my life?” To be honest, more often than not, I see people going back to grad school simply because they don't know what else to do. Plenty of people use grad school as a way of feeling productive and directed, when unconsciously it’s just a way of postponing the scary step of figuring things out in the “real world.” So how can you tell if more education is worth it, or if you’re doing it for the wrong reasons? That’s what we’re getting into in this week’s throwback blog… TAKE THE SURVEY Thanks in advance for taking our short survey! Anyone who completes it between now and March 12, 2019, will be automatically entered into a random drawing to win one of five free coaching calls we’re giving away. Take the survey now! Too often the safety and security of a “real job” keeps us from following our own professional dreams. But for those of us who realize that we have a deeply ingrained desire to do something else, to follow our own creative journey, the time comes where we have to take that scary leap and give it a go. Today’s guest just did something amazing and terrifying, he quit his job of four years and went full-time freelance. Josh LeClair, a Studio Sherpas Community member, now has his own freelance business based in northern Michigan and has been working with some really great brands. In today’s interview, Josh shares his journey of deciding on a career as a photographer and then pursuing it on his own terms. The decision was full of uncertainty but not regrets. We consider just what goes into a move like this and how to know when you’re ready. We also talk about how you can best help clients. It can only come from forming a relationship with them in which they trust you to do the best work for them. We discuss how to identify a client’s area of need and how you can communicate that to them in a confident and helpful way. Are you ready to go freelance or have recently made the switch? What were your struggles and how did you overcome them? Tell me about it in the comments below! In this episode: The internal and external struggles to overcome when deciding to pursue a creative freelance career Knowing when you’re ready to take the leap and go freelance The less than glamorous but crucially important parts of starting a business and how to prioritize them How to find and keep clients when you first go freelance by directly reaching out to them to form a connection Quotes: “The pure joy that comes with learning and growing and building this business has been absolutely amazing, even over the last four years. So that’s what led me to step out on my own.” [12:39] “The way that I’m getting a lot more work is just educating; sitting down with clients and talking about them and what they think their needs are and going over what we can provide for them. And that’s really what’s gotten me a lot of work.” [22:25] “If there’s anybody out there who’s actually thinking about doing this or it’s been on their mind for a while, I want you to realize that there's a ton of people who don’t do this immediately. They've gone through being an assistant, multiple jobs. It doesn’t matter what it is. Every one of those experiences you can take away something and you can learn so much.” [32:44] “I can’t tell you how exhilarating it is for me to finally send that email that I’m resigning, I’m done, my business is on its way, and I’m going to do this thing and I’m going to see wherever it takes me.” [34:38] Links: Sign up for the Studio Sherpas Video Business Academy Find Josh Online Follow Josh on Facebook | Vimeo Books by Dr. Tal Ben-Shahar Episode 106 with Parker Walbeck Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Be sure to take the Studio Sherpas survey for a chance to win some incredible prizes (if we do say so ourselves!) Before starting his own film school and production company, he spent several years making amazing films with DevinSuperTramp (seriously, check these out) and working with some big brands all over the world. He has trained thousands of students on what they need to become successful in this line of work. Parker is a true wealth of knowledge who makes it his mission to share what he knows with other eager filmmakers and entrepreneurs. Today’s conversation is about creating the right formula that will lead to a successful video business. We talk about our own experiences about discovering the right kind of work you need to be busying yourself with to land the types of jobs you want to be doing. Parker lays down what it means to find your highest value activity, work free-to-fee, and becoming a master at your craft. We also discuss what it’s like to work efficiently by managing your time without distractions and the importance of mentorship. How do you identify and focus on your highest value activity? Leave a comment on the episode page! In this episode: Why you have to create content (and lots of it) if you want to get noticed Working free-to-fee and how it can lead you to the types of paying jobs that you want to have Why you need to have confidence in yourself to achieve your business and creative goals Tools and tips for operating at top efficiency so that you can maximize your potential Identifying your highest value activity and how it can make or break your business How having a mentor is invaluable when it comes to learning the tricks of the trade Quotes: “To me, the biggest things that drive me are anything that pushes me to progress and to learn new things.” [10:22] “You have to start somewhere and the only way to grow is to act. And as you act, you gain more confidence and that confidence allows you to grow more.” [13:44] “One of the biggest principles I live by is called free-to-fee. If you don’t have work, then go do some free work and people will see what you’re doing, see that free work. It will attract people to give you a fee.” [20:01] “Never compare yourself to other people. Compare yourself to who you were yesterday. As long as you’re always personally progressing, you’re going to be successful.” [27:13] “The principle I teach is the 80-20 rule. Usually, it takes 20 percent of your time to do 80 percent of the job, and then it takes 80 percent of your time to do that last 20 percent. In other words, don’t be a perfectionist. Get your job 80 percent done, 80 percent good, and move on. Trying to get the project to be that extra 10 or 20 percent, to get it perfectly the way you want it, is going to take up most of your time.” [35:08] Links: Sign up for Parker’s free training Find Parker online at Full Time Filmmaker Follow Parker on Youtube | Facebook | Instagram DevinSuperTramp Peter Voogd YEL2.0 Podcast Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Be sure to take the Studio Sherpas survey for a chance to win some incredible prizes (if we do say so ourselves!) I should probably out myself, first and foremost, as a huge school nerd. When other kids used to dread the first day of school after a long summer break, I was secretly excited. In elementary school, I used to assign myself summer “homework assignments” — books to read, short stories to write, that kind of thing. (Yep, total nerd here.) I was so disappointed when college was over that within a couple of years after graduating, I applied for grad school four separate times … not because going back to school was the right next step for me (which is why I ultimately turned it down every time), but because I didn’t want to feel like my education was over. I was so good at learning when I was in school (if you could make a profitable career out of just being a student, I totally would’ve done that), but I didn’t know how to continue that into the “real world.” All of that is to say, it’s probably no wonder that I love this week’s topic so much. GET $50 OFF THE PASSION PROFILE SHORT COURSE THIS WEEK! It doesn’t matter your age, gender, race, or body type – 99.9% of us know what it’s like to feel ashamed of how we look or uncomfortable in our body, in one way or another. A lot of us fall into a trap of believing that when our outer appearance is EXACTLY how we’ve envisioned, THEN we’ll finally get to be happy, successful, rich, and snag a hot significant other to boot. (Logically, we know this doesn’t work. But that doesn’t stop us from doing it anyway). When you’re fixated on trying to force your body into submission, you’re not really living. It’s almost impossible to find true enjoyment in anything you do. And that’s no way to spend your life. So to help us break the cycle and get to the root of our insecurities we sat down with Nina Blagojevic, a coach who helps people release guilt and shame so that they can (finally) feel at home in their bodies. In this episode we talked about: How Nina went from feeling completely disconnected from her body to having the confidence to pose nude for an artist. Why our obsession with dieting, exercise, and making our bodies look a certain way has everything to do with a need for control. Why that need for body-control is a red herring for something deeper and more internal. How Nina let go of her need to go to the gym, and how she reframed her idea of what it means to diet and exercise. Why you don’t need to find every aspect of yourself beautiful (and still love yourself, at the same time). How to tell if you’re “out of body” – a lot of us have totally severed the connection between our minds and bodies. We talk about the signs, and how to reestablish that connection. This sounds like a super heavy episode, but in typical fashion it’s a lot lighter and more fun that you’d expect! Nina is a great friend with a fantastic take on a very loaded issue. We think you’re going to feel a LOT of relief after listening to this one. GET $50 OFF THE PPSC BETWEEN NOW AND 6/26/18 For a limited time the Passion Profile Short Course — our 5-ish hour, totally online, go-at-your-own-pace program that helps you find your career direction in as little as 1 day — is even more affordable than usual! Between now and Tuesday, June 26th, you can get the PPSC for $199 instead of $249. Use code JUNE during checkout. Need more details? Check out the full PPSC page to see whether this is right for you. I’m 22 and sitting in one of many orientation sessions for my first full-time job out of college. The training instructor, a really nice guy who I’ll refer to as Marty, was having us watch a video about coming to work with a positive, can-do attitude. The video was about people who tossed fish for a living. And weirdly, it wasn’t the first time I’d seen it. I remember watching it in my high school English class when I was a freshman, too. In short, it’s about the hardworking people employed at the famous Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle. Their job is cold, wet, long, and not to mention, smelly. It’s also a job done in front of an audience, given the hundreds of tourists who pass through every day. There’s every reason that you’d have a less-than-stellar attitude about a fish-hauling job, but that’s the point of this video — they don’t. They’re all happy and cheerful, and they’ve created a fun spectacle of tossing fish from place to place as they work. The way they do their job has become part of the attraction of the market. Anyway, this training video is produced by some company that clearly wanted to create an experience for students, new hires, and anyone else who might need an inspiring lesson about their attitude. So at the end, everyone gets a plush stuffed fish to remind them of the moral of the story. As Marty handed us our fish (this would be my second stuffed fish, though who knows where the high school fish ended up), he said: “I keep my fish on my desk at all times, to remind me that you can always choose to be positive and happy at work!” Bless Marty’s heart. He was (and I’m sure continues to be) such a sweet guy. But let’s be honest … that damned fish wasn’t going to convince me to be happy in this new job. What I’d started to fear during my orientation, and what became clear very quickly once I started my new job, was that I wasn’t like everyone else. I didn’t like my job, and I never did. From day one I was unengaged and faking all of my energy and enthusiasm. And the thought I kept thinking was this: “Is there something wrong with ME? Or is there something wrong with this job?” It took me YEARS to figure out why I wasn’t happy at that job (or any job that came after). And now, I want to share with you what I wish Marty would have known during my orientation all those years ago. GET $50 OFF THE PASSION PROFILE SHORT COURSE THIS WEEK! Between now and Tuesday, June 26th, we’re offering the PPSC for $199 instead of the usual $249. Use code JUNE during checkout for $50 off! Need more details? We feel you, and we’re doing a FREE online workshop on Friday, June 22nd 1pm EST especially for you: 3 ways to get unstuck (in your career & life) in record time. How do you approach selling, whether it’s your product/service or yourself for speaking engagements? Do you schedule time and make it a priority or do you tend to procrastinate on it because you don’t like “sales” and you’re not sure what to do or say? In this mini-training, my guest Nikki Rausch, founder of the Sales Maven, walks us through how to do the sales process, from prospecting to closing, in a way that feels good for both you and the other person and builds a relationship, not a transaction. We talk about what to say so you can get to the next step with a prospect, why you need to take the lead, and why you should offer clients several options for your product or service (you’ll hear why this works so well!). About My Guest: Sales Maven founder and bestselling author, Nikki Rausch, is an award-winning sales executive with 23+ years of sales experience selling to organizations such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, Hewlett Packard, Seattle Public Schools, & NASA. By combining her sales experience with her master certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Nikki teaches simple, yet powerful techniques anyone can use. Entrepreneurs hire Nikki to learn how to sell in an authentic way without being pushy so they build relationships and close more deals. Her two books, Six-Word Lessons on Influencing with Grace: 100 Lessons to Genuinely Connect with Colleagues, Friends, Family, and Lovers and Buying Signals, How To Spot The Green Light & Increase Your Sales are both available on Amazon. Cassy Joy: Welcome back to another episode of the Fed and Fit podcast. My name is Cassy Joy Garcia; I am your hostess, and I’m so thrilled to be chatting with you today. {laughs} Today is another very special reverse interview, where I invite Fed and Fit readers and listeners who have written in with fabulous questions to come on the show so we can talk about it and we can record the conversation {laughing}. And they are gracious enough to accept my invitation to come on; and we just like to have a nice little conversation. And I choose these folks; or invite these certain folks to come on because if you’re new here, just to give you a little background information on these reverse interviews, because I find that there are many questions that are asked that can lead down a rabbit hole that’s a common question. Maybe I get it a lot; I see these concepts come up over and over again; or maybe I just believe at the heart of it that someone else could benefit from this kind of exchange. So that’s exactly what we’re doing today. I am joined by the lovely Ms. Kim. She is calling in from near San Francisco, California; a small town outside of there. she is a stay at home mom with what sounds like really good kids, two and four years old, and I’m so excited to have you on the show today, Kim! Thank you so much for coming on! Kim: Thank you so much for having me. I am really excited to talk to you. Cassy Joy: {laughs} Well then it’s a mutual feeling {laughs}. Kim: {laughs} Cassy Joy: Well I’ll; what I like to do in these interviews, for any newbies here, but what I like to do from here out on these reverse interviews is I’m just going to hand the baton to Kim and she gets to lead the show. So, whatever questions; Kim: Sounds good. Cassy Joy: Yeah; whatever questions you’ve got girl, I’m here for you. Kim: Alright, perfect. So just a reminder for you, I found your book at the library. It literally almost fell off of the shelves into my arms; and I was like, oh my gosh, this is so great! I’ve been doing CrossFit for like 5 years and I’ve done nutrition chal...
