They discuss various chapters from the book, including reframing mindset, the importance of movement, embracing play, the impact of unplugging technology, and the significance of rest. In this episode, I interview Robin Long, who epitomizes this idea of making sure your wellness is prioritized while you build a successful business. Hey friends! Welcome to Girls' Night! At the moment we're in between seasons here on the show. But while we're waiting for our next official season to begin, we thought this would be a great time to pull some of our favorite episodes out of the Girls Night archive. This is the perfect time to catch up on episodes you might have missed, or listen again to old favorites. In today's episode, I'm chatting with my sweet friend, Robin Long, who actually joined us all the way back in the second episode of Girls Night. Robin is a pilates instructor and the creator of an online community called Lindywell (previously called The Balanced Life) where she provides quick and efficient online workouts for busy women. Robin is passionate about empowering women to feel good in their own skin, and that's exactly what she does! Today, we're talking about how to be consistent in your health journey. I think a lot of us have big ambitions when it comes to our health and fitness goals, especially at the beginning of the new year, but then lose momentum a few months or even a few weeks in! Robin's going to share practical, and actually doable, tips that have helped her stay committed to her health for years now, and she's going to teach us how we can do the same. If you're feeling a bit lost or frustrated in your health journey, whether it's with food or fitness or both, please know you're not alone! I've actually been feeling the exact same way lately. And that's why I was so excited to talk to Robin. I left this conversation feeling so refreshed, motivated, and like I can ACTUALLY do this, and I know you'll feel the same. Welcome to The Rainmaker Family Podcast! We are so excited to bring you an inspiring conversation with our special guest, Robin Long, founder and CEO of Lindy, the number one Pilates app in 2022. Robin is an amazing instructor, mom, and CEO who has passionately led a community of hundreds of thousands of women towards embracing a grace over guilt approach to whole body fitness. Robin's influence in our lives has truly been transformative, as she has been the catalyst for our newfound love of Pilates and Bar workouts. Moving away from high-intensity cardio routines, Robin has shown us how to be more intentional with our workouts, helping us better connect with our bodies through mindful movement. In this conversation, we discuss the importance of a holistic approach to health, which includes breathwork, nutrition, and addressing the whole person. Robin emphasizes the incredible value of starting small when it comes to building habits and creating lasting change in our fitness routines. For many people, this may mean beginning with a 10 or 15-minute workout that easily fits into their busy schedules. Robin's empowering approach to fitness is all about building self-trust and making small, sustainable changes that ultimately lead to more significant outcomes. She encourages everyone to think about starting with small, manageable steps, whether it's a quick Pilates session, a rejuvenating walk, or a joyful dance party with the kids. it's essential to focus on building habits that will last and make you feel better, rather than striving for perfection or adopting an all-or-nothing mentality. By starting with just 10 minutes a day and focusing on what works best for you, it's possible to create lasting change in your fitness journey and overall health. So, if you're looking to make a positive change in your health this year, let Robin's wisdom inspire you to start small. Remember, it's about embracing grace over guilt, and every little bit counts. If you've hung around this podcast long enough, then you've probably heard Kristen mention (on more than one occasion) the parallels between sustainable practices in business and in health. The diet analogy is one of her favorites because of how relatable it is. But even so, it can still be hard to see that the same habits you use to improve your health are the same habits you can use to grow your business. And that's why Kristen has brought on her friend and fellow entrepreneur, Robin Long, to talk about the grace and grit it takes to build and grow - not just a healthy lifestyle, but a successful business. Robin is the Founder and CEO of Lindywell, a top-rated Pilates group, and believes in an anti-hustle approach to better fitness and better health. Jump in to hear these highlights and more: Robin's journey on the path to sustainable healthy habits Tips for growing out of that awkward beginner's stage of owning a business The importance of choosing grace over guilt The only secret formula needed to succeed is consistency Where compassion comes in when creating new habits The road to success is hard. And it's going to be full of detours. Allowing yourself grace instead of shame or guilt over setbacks is essential to your growth. Rome wasn't built in a day. So expecting instant results when just starting to build new habits will only hurt your growth. If you'd like to stay up to date with Robin and get workout inspiration, you can follow her on Instagram @wearelindy. Are you feeling as stressed as I am these days? I want to share my 4 highly-effective ways on how you can de-stress in minutes. Acupressure Mini Massage I am a Master Esthetician, so nightly facial massages are a part of my routine. However, when I mention this to my clients and friends, most give me a deer in the headlights expression.Truly! They do! Therefore, I wanted to share with you exactly how I do this. It is called an Acupressure mini massage and is a fabulous way to begin our how to de-stress journey. The main point to this facial massage is you want to hit those Acupressure points. Do this by simply rubbing those earlobes. This will signal your body to create feel good hormones. How to? Press your index finger and your thumb on your ear lobes, and keep pressing and massaging by rubbing up to the top of your ear. Next, press lightly and gently again at the top of your ear and work your way back down your ear. I honestly smile every time I do this to myself. It feels that good! You can also work acupressure on your eyebrow through a massage technique. Take your index finger and your middle finger on each hand, and press right in-between your eyebrows. As you go towards the middle of your eyebrow, press and rub along your eyebrow. Repeat both sequences a few times and you will be de-stressed in no time! Favorite Night time Tea A second how to de stress activity takes place at night. I love to de stress after dinner with a good, relaxing cup or tea. Ashley, my sister and wellness expert, loves a quality loose leaf herbal tea such as Chamomile. For a fall feel, she will add some whole cloves. If you want to sweeten it, she suggests either raw organic honey or pure maple syrup. I love cozying up with a decaf Chai tea and enjoy adding a splash of Hazelnut nutpod creamer. I also adore creating an ambience while I'm relaxing. I have LED candles that have a realistic flicker and turn on with a remote. Having both the warm tea in my hand and flickering candles really transforms the space to a relaxing vibe that helps to de stress my body within minutes. Walks This is the third in my how to de stress series. Don't underestimate the power of walking. We want to move our bodies every day and walking is not only one of the simplest ways to do this, but also the most powerful. To enhance the de stress quality of walking, try this. When by yourself, try to not listen to any devices for 10-15 minutes. For example, no audible, social, podcast, music, etc. Instead, I want you to focus on listening to the sounds of the birds, and admiring the sights around you. For example, I walked the other day and really paid attention to the leaves falling, how they were swaying before they dropped and I stopped. I literally took the time and watched them fall to the ground. It was so peaceful. I then paid attention to the cat in the neighbors yard, and watched the squirrels as they ran and climbed the trees. This helped me to not only meditate but to listen and talk to God. I do find that while I am walking, it is important to keep my hands free. Therefore, find a belt that holds your water bottle, phone, keys, and a piece of peppermint candy (in case you are like me and get low blood sugar). This allows me to just be in the moment and not worry about my stuff. Pilates One of the most powerful ways to de stress is through Pilates. As a busy entrepreneur, I am limited on time. I need quick videos to fit into my current lifestyle. Also, as a mature woman, I can not run or do high impact moves as easily as I could when I was younger. I prefer exercises that are gentle on my body yet work on toning and flexibility. Depending on my schedule, I like to de stress through a few quick pilates stretches in either the morning as I first wake up or at night before I go to bed. I like to mix it up, so I will go on Tik-Tok or YouTube to find people with quick stretches and moves I can follow. Did YOU know that your body produces a chemical called Cortisol when you are stressed? This chemical gets stored as glucose in the fat cells? So let's get rid of that! One of my favorite Pilates programs that I use everyday is called The Balanced Life by Robin Long. You will see me post regularly about this on my Instagram stories. My favorite night time video is The Pilates for Better Sleep. It's 11 minutes long, so it is so quick to do and prepares your body for sleep. I talk about this program a lot because I have kept it in my life and it works. Try out Robin's video inside the program called “Pilates for Stretching & Stress Relief”, “Breathe, Flow & Stretch”, or “Moving Meditation”. I am sure these how to de stress ways will improve your life if you are consistent and take the time to incorporate them. Your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health are very important. Let's de stress together each day! Lindsey and Ashley (The Sisters!) Beauty favorites ,Wellness favorites, Benefits of each, and much more! Check out these Highlights: The Balanced Life The Balanced Life is owned by Robin Long. I like how I am able to see quick results in a limited amount of time. She created a workout system based on a calendar, so every day is different; thereby, working out different muscle groups. She also incorporates anti-inflammatory recipes. As a sufferer of endometriosis, I find these recipes extremely helpful! I also like the 4-week endometriosis diet plan by Katie Edmonds. Microneedle home roll Bee Natural Deodorant from Simply Beeutiful. I discovered them at a booth during a spa conference with Lindsey. I love their ingredients - and it glides on so smooth and doesn't feel sticky. It smells delicious and that comes from their essential oils. I also love their lip balms - mint julep, honey, and even one with a tint! Another favorite of mine is from Nourish Handmade Natural Bath Products. I discovered this local shop while shopping downtown Greenville, SC. (They also have locations in Savannah,GA, Hilton Head, SC, and Melbourne, FL) Soooo... fun fact!! I am currently in perimenopause - yay! And my scalp is now so oily. I decided to try one of the recommended Peppermint and Charcoal Shampoo bars and it worked! I have tried EVERYTHING and nothing has been able to stop the excess oil in my hair; but this bar does! I also tried their Don't Bug Me! Keep AWAY SPRAY. I wanted an insect repellent for my children and me that wasn't toxic. I love this and it works. I have taken this outside in my backyard as well as the mountains. I wanted to leave you with this thought. My goal right now is to try to be the best version of myself in 4 categories: physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I try to think each day about what I can do in each of these areas to be my best. Want MORE of Lindsey and Ashley's Beauty and Wellness tips? How should believers approach physical health? Should we even care? Robin Long shares how she approaches physical health as a believer. Exercising consistently doesn’t have to be motivated by the scale or our culture’s definition of beauty. It can be motivated by a deep desire to honor the gift God has given us in our bodies. It can be done with the understanding that God made us body, mind, and soul. It doesn’t have to be all-consuming, but it can be a way to better love and serve God and others. When it comes to our health, we all have beliefs that may be holding us back from being the healthiest versions of ourselves. Sometimes we have to learn from those mistakes to grow, but sometimes we get an outside perspective so that we don’t have to make the same mistakes. Today, Robin Long shares the biggest mistakes she’s made in her fitness journey that held her back from being the healthiest version of herself. In this episode, she discusses many beliefs she had that proved to not only be untrue, but detrimental to her growth. She also shares the importance of nourishing your body and how to positively connect with your body to improve your physical and mental health. Show Highlights: One of the biggest mistakes you can make is thinking that eating less means being healthy Restraining yourself from eating can lead to an unhealthy mindset Working out more is not always the healthiest option Counting calories is not a basic measure of what’s healthy and believing this can be detrimental to your health Focusing on nutritional value and how food makes you feel is more important than the calorie count Expecting quick results and quitting when they don’t work immediately is a mistake Seeing results and change takes time and consistency Overlooking the importance of mental and emotional health is a common mistake when looking at health If your workout goals are making you miserable and putting extreme pressure on you, it’s important to take a step back and re-evaluate your approach Looking at your body only as something to improve can lead to disconnect and a negative relationship with your body Links: The Balanced Life Sisterhood Pilates Strength + Stress Relief Challenge

Today we are continuing with our series, May is for Mamas where I release two podcasts episodes a week throughout the month of May to help us in our journey of motherhood. Today I spoke with my friend Robin Long and she is the founder and CEO of The Balanced Life, which is an online Pilates community where she provides workouts and resources for busy women like you and me who really struggle to find time to exercise and really want to love our bodies again and feel comfortable in our bodies and might be looking for an exercise plan that will actually work for the long haul. And we talk about so many good things in this episode. We talk about how to do it when we feel like we literally have zero time for ourselves with kids, how to actually sit down and get our mats out and do a Pilates exercise or get out the door and go for a run and what that looks like, what self care actually looks like. That self care isn't a joke, that it's real. We also talk about anxiety and how living in this strange season and our world and being cooped up inside really can produce some anxiety but also how moving our bodies is a very practical tool and answer to that underlying anxiety that we might be feeling. I really enjoyed my time with Robin, she brings such a beautiful perspective to body image and to movement and really just the gift that it is to be able to exercise. Today’s guest is the wonderful Robin Long from The Balanced Life. I HAD to have Robin on the show because she’s an unsung hero in the fight against motherhood guilt. She has a busy family life with four children, runs her business and encourages her students to embrace grace over guilt. How good does that sound? It’s hard enough trying to balance work and parenting but when you’re the face of a fitness business, the stakes are somewhat higher. People expect more of you but the truth is, we’re all in the same boat and a pilates professional truly isn’t any better than the the motherhood game than you are, I promise! This is a chat about balance, motherhood and what it takes to really try to ‘have it all’.So what is the episode REALLY about?Key takeawaysThe severe consequences that happen when you ignore your need for rest. The frightening statistics on just how many women are dealing with burnout. The clues you might be suffering adrenal fatigue, for example feeling worse not better after a workout. The importance of going gently and trusting your own body.If a mum with a business and four kids can take a few moments out of the day to take care of herself, you can do it too!The small steps approach and how it’s the only sane way to keep it all together.Getting back to basics and how it can make decision making a lot easier. How it’s impossible to go from 0 to 100 and that’s why a lot of people fail at introducing exercise into their lives because they try to overdo it.How even fitness professionals skip workouts! If you’re in need of an inspiring listen today, pop this in your ears.

Whether setting goals is your best friend or worst enemy, we all have ambitions and aspirations for the type of person we want to be. I want to share with you something that's so important to us as Christian and business owners. This is not to add on another layer of things we should be doing. This is important. Please listen to this and don't feel guilty for what you are not doing. As Christians, our bodies are the temple of God. When we become Christians, that's what the Bible says. Therefore, we should take care of ourselves. It's not a trivial thing that people talk about being healthy and taking care of ourselves. Get Moving. As business owners, I know it's hard to take care of ourselves. It's hard for me to find time to prioritize walking two miles. For me, the biggest driver in taking care of myself is being there with my for my kids and my family. I want to be able to run with them and not to have my back issues. I have chronic back pain from being in the military, and knee and shoulder problems. I also know that if I don't keep moving, I'm going to have a harder time. Thankfully, we have a treadmill in our basement. If it weren't for that, it would be a lot harder. However, there are plenty of things we can do at our desks or in our offices. We have lymph nodes. *I'm not a doctor in any way. I've been learning about the body and food and diets since I was a little kid.* In the lymph nodes, that's where the body fights off infections or bacteria. A few are in the arm bits by the breast tissues. There are some in the neck where you can feel if you're getting sick. We need to be moving to keep the lymph moving. And drinking water to flush out the toxins. We need to be moving. Sitting is the new smoking and they are saying that sitting can kill you. They're saying to walk for 30 minutes a day to improve your health. That is one of the ways I'm taking care of myself. I'm getting walking so I can move the lymph out of the lymph nodes and doing what I can to stay healthy. One of the reasons they say not to wear deodorant/anti-persperant with aluminum is because it holds the toxins into the breast area and it's been known to cause cancer. I said to get moving. You can do squats and lunges anywhere - in the bathroom, in your office, at your desk - all you need is two feet by two feet space so you don't bump into anyone. I used my bathtub to do dips to work on my triceps. I didn't have to go to the gym because I've got my body weight. There are a lot of people who have free workout videos on YouTube - one that I love and appreciate for having a wealth of videos online is Robin Long of the Balanced Life. She's got pilates, pre and post natal videos and more online. And I'm trying to get her on the podcast because I really want to share her with you guys. I was in the military for six years and we did PT (physical training) multiple times a week, and I've done four half marathons and numerous 5Ks. Even if you're just jogging back and forth getting your heart rate up makes a difference. Drink Water. The next thing you can do is to drink water. Here in the US and in other first world countries, we have access to clean drinking water most of the time. If you cannot access clean drinking water, it's super easy to buy a water filter. We use the Burke which is available on Amazon. Our bodies need water to live. We can last for days without food, but we need water. There's a reason why Jesus calls himself the living water and why the woman at the well asked Jesus for his living water. Most of the time when you're feeling hungry, is because you're actually thirsty. You can add high quality essential oils, like Young Living which I sell, into your water. Adding the lemon oil to the water helps me absorb the water, but it also helps my body flush the toxins. I was reading how lemon oil can help the kidneys. There are products like Crystal Light and other drink flavoring packets that are "sugar free". They usually also use aspertame, sucralose and other artificial sweetners that have been linked to cancer. Please reconsider using these drink packets. Look up articles to do your own research. The Environmental Working Group is a great resource for a lot of this information I'm sharing today. Think about the things you're putting in your body. Essential Oils Yes, I'm with Young Living Essential Oils, that's the Essential Oil Educator part of my title. We've been using essential oils for around three years and we've seen a big change in our health. It's super easy to get started and to learn how to use these in your own oils. I love lavender for so many things. Look up the uses for lavender on Google. The amount of anti- properties it has, the rest you can get from using it, and how great it is for burns is astounding. If you want a sample, let me know! I actually just bought sample packets so I can send them to you. Email me at dmr@daniellemroberts.com. I'd love to get them into your hands. One of the biggest things that I've seen happen with essential oils is with my own personal health and my hormones. The other day I had a huge migrane from my hormones. There's a oil called Progessense Plus which has natural yam oil in it which contains a natural hormone. I used the oil on my wrists and within 20 minutes, my migraine was gone. You guys, if I had had that oil a few years ago when I was having more headaches, life would have been a lot easier and a lot better. I've talked about emotional oils. Joy helps me feel better when I'm feeling really blue. And Peace and Calming calms me down when I'm having a hard day. If you want to know more, let me know, I'm happy to chat. You can click this link to have a 30-minute call with me about oils. God's given us these oils, just like he's given us water and movement, for our good. Vitamins and Nutrients and the food we eat. This is a huge topic and a huge way to take care of our bodies. I love chocolate, and cake and cupcakes. All the sugar you guys. But I also know that sugar is so detrimental to our bodies. I know when I eat sugar, it impacts my body. My mood is affected so much because of the chemical makeup of sugar. When we at leafy greens, fish, healthy meat, fruits and good food, it benefits us. If we aren't using those foods to get the vitamins and minerals, we're going to be more tired. I recommend eating organic foods because the Round Up (Glycosphate) kills your gut bacteria which can make you sick and give you other issues. It's been put into plants that we eat through genetic modification. It's found in Cheerios, on kale and in pea protein among other things. The Environmental Working Group has a list of 12 fruits and vegetables it recommends to eat organic. I want you guys to be thriving and I know that these things can make a huge difference for you. Productivity Intensive - Productivity Intensive is an in-depth assessment and implementation will help you love your business again and allow you to be present with the people you love. Robin Long is the founder of The Balanced Life, which started as an online platform for her to teach Pilates but has grown to much more than that. She is a well of wisdom when it comes to living in the balance of food + exercise. We often get into the mindset that “exercise equals all of these hard things, so I can’t exercise” or “well, if I licked a donut, then I might as well just eat burgers, fries and a milkshake for lunch, and also have pizza for dinner, and two beers.” But it doesn’t have to be that way. Having exercise fit into your life is the key to actually getting something done and making progress. My goal for this episode is to get you to actually do something. Anyone can listen, get inspired, and think they are going to do that. But I really want you to do it! Disclaimer: In this episode, we discuss some things that you may not want your kids to hear, especially if you have a little girl who might be receptive to some of the things we are discussing. I encourage you to pop those headphones in and enjoy this episode. Robin is amazing and I am so excited for you to hear what she has to share! And then something happens. Or a LOT of somethings. And pretty soon you don't have time for a shower. Or a workout. And you grab a handful of fishy crackers and think, "Okay, we'll try again tomorrow." Deep inside, we know there's got to be a better option. And Robin Long, from The Balanced Life, is going to show us just how to make that better option happen! Enjoy the podcast, and be sure to check out our new sponsor, RXBAR/RXBAR Kids! Have you heard of them before? (We've got some fun glowing testimonials for them inside the podcast!) Thanks so much for being with us! For full show notes, please visit powerofmoms.com/221
I LOVED chatting with Robin Long of the Balanced Life on episode 78. Not only did we talk about pilates, but we talked about the mission behind her online fitness business. It's about balance and self-care, two things I fully endorse. I wanted to hear what Robin has been up to lately, so today we'll get an update on her life and then she'll answer my rapid fire questions! The Joy Filled Mama - Christian Motherhood, Self Care, and Faith Based Encouragement for Moms
What if you took a different approach to your health this year? What if you chose grace instead of guilt? Today Robin Long, founder of Lindywell and author of Well To The Core, joins us for a conversation on how to do just that. As a Pilates instructor, author, business owner, and mom of 4, Robin is no stranger to the rollercoasters of toxic diet culture, the pendulum swing of health trends, and how difficult it can be to prioritize taking care of yourself as moms. In this episode, we talk about how to listen to your body and honor what it needs, the importance of finding moments throughout your day to take care of yourself, and how we can implement small changes today that make a lasting impact.Join the free Joy Filled CommunityFollow the Joy Filled Podcast on Instagram!Connect with RobinLearn more about LindywellThe Joy Filled podcast is a part of the Christian Parenting Podcast Network.
