Judith M. Costa teaches people how to love unconditionally. She holds an MBA and a master’s degree in psychology and psychotherapy and is certified in a wide range of therapeutic methods. She has hosted workshops, retreats, and talks all over the world to help people overcome their inner obstacles to loving. About Guest/Topic With experience in techniques ranging from astrology to Akashic records to the Hawaiian approach to reconciliation called Ho’oponopono, Judith is no stranger to the many factors that keep people from forgiving others and, more importantly, themselves. In today’s episode, she talks about the importance of looking inward and freeing ourselves from the idea that we are complicit in our own suffering or worse--that we need to suffer to earn someone’s love. In This Episode What happens during a consultation of the Akashic records? How does Ho’oponopono work? How does introspection lead to self-love? How do self-love and relationships affect one another? Quotes “We think that we need the other person in order to forgive, that we need an apology or that the person has to change their behavior. Everything starts within us. We are the only ones that need to do our part of the job.” [18:49] “A lot of us are unaware of the way we treat ourselves. We are not even conscious of this inner dialog where we constantly criticize ourselves, judge ourselves, put ourselves down, beat ourselves up for any mistake.” [22:37] “For a lot of us, the opinions that everyone else has about our lives are more important than our own opinion. And this is because we have been afraid of looking inside, not knowing what we are going to discover. And what you need to love someone is to know that person.” [23:59] “I believe that a relationship is when two mature individuals share the love that they already have from themselves.” [26:26] Resources Mentioned Judith M. Often, in the game of business, results are the points by which everything is measured. Success relies on extraordinary results. But that doesn’t mean your personal values should ever be sacrificed to meet these goals. Today’s guest is an expert at taking a nuanced and informed perspective and applying it so that both professional and personal values are honored in the workplace. In This Episode What the conscious leadership model is in practice [2:10] Realizing the importance of our actions through a cosmic lens [6:40] Where to find inspiration for building intrinsic motivation [12:02] Avoiding a culture of entitlement in your company [15:25] Pausing and reflecting on our natural impulses in the workplace [21:00] How to build emotional competence based on cooperation [26:55] The role of ritual inside a company culture [35:17] About Matt MacInnis Matt is Chief Operating Officer at Rippling where he oversees business operations. From 2009 to 2018, he was the co-founder and CEO of Inkling, a mobile learning platform that provides on-the-job training for companies including MacDonald’s and Whole Foods. Inkling was named one of Fast Company’s most innovative companies and raised over $100 million in funding before being acquired in 2018. Before Inkling, Matt spent eight years at Apple, growing the use of its products in education and the sciences. He holds an Electrical and Computer Engineering degree from Harvard. Building a Conscious Business At 15Five, we are big followers of conscious business. The work we do shapes our lives and experience. That’s why work can be the place where we become our best selves. Intentionally building a company where someone can become a happier, healthier, more fulfilled and competent version of themself is not only possible, but a necessary element. Finding Cosmic Inspiration to Value Human Performance Being a conscious business means taking a one hundred thousand light-year view of everything. When you view yourself as just a speck of dust in the universe, it’s easy to become nihilistic. That’s not the point. Instead, the cosmos is a place for inspiration. Building a company that’s informed and inspired by the wonder and awe of life, we can raise the bar on what performance actually is. This creates an environment in which emotions are valued and respected. Too often, we are taught to repress the way we really feel. Emotion is our intuition. When we are allowed to consciously feel our feelings and analyze them, we’ll become more informed and resilient. Quotes “You go to work every day as a means by which to express your values. In other words, work is not a means to an end.” [5:32] “Do you think that LeBron James takes his work less seriously because he understands that it’s a game? Of course not. The game is his game and the game of business is my game.” [14:37] “Do not confuse the things that you wish were true with the things that are because nothing you say is going to change the not true things into true things.” [42:22] Key Takeaways 1. Emotional competence is a strength at work. Intentionally building it into a company culture involves holding ourselves and others accountable while still offering needed support. This can be fostered through the use of ritual in the workplace. 2. Kindness has a place even in the most high-stakes business settings. You can be direct, candid, and demanding while still being kind and caring for your people. All skin types and colors are at risk of developing skin cancer without proper prevention! I’m joined by Dr. Keira Barr to talk about how you can best support your skin to prevent skin cancer and early signs to watch out for. Check your skin each month with these pointers! A - Asymmetry B - Border C - Color D - Diameter E - Evolving F - Funny Looking About Dr. Kiera Barr Dr. Keira Barr believes that going through menopause shouldn’t mean you have to push pause on feeling comfortable and confident in your skin. As a dual-board certified dermatologist, global speaker, and best-selling author, Dr. Barr founded the Resilient Health Institute and created “The Skinny Dipping Method” to help midlife women strip away the fatigue, stress, and shame surrounding menopause and uncover the secrets to making midlife the best time of their life. As a former Assistant Clinical Professor at UC Davis in the departments of dermatology and pathology, advisor to numerous start-ups, author and editorial reviewer of multiple leading medical journals, Dr. Barr passionately bridges the gap between the latest evidence-based research and an integrative approach to health. She turns conventional methodologies on their heads, blending science with soul to bring an innovative and compassionate approach to women’s health and skincare. Her book, “The Skin Whisperer,” blends her medical expertise with cognitive science and her own health journey, creating a framework to support readers on a journey towards self-discovery, self-love, and create resilient health. Dr. Barr’s expertise featured on national tv, radio, and podcasts, as well as popular outlets including MindBodyGreen, Insider, Reader’s Digest, Glamour, SELF, and Oprah magazine. Learning to Read Your Skin This conversation with Dr. Keira Barr is really relevant to both of us as we talk about skin cancer - something we’ve both had in our lives. Early detection is one of the keys to surviving skin cancer - and also preventing it! One of the methods Keira recommends is to have a naked dance party with yourself once per month, on your birthdate to make it easy to remember and check your skin in the mirror. She breaks down, using the alphabet, exactly what you should be looking for during these dance parties. Keira shares some insight into what skin types are more sensitive to the sun and who should be most concerned about skin cancer. It might surprise you to learn that all skin types and colors are at risk of developing cancer! That means that, even though fairer skin has a higher risk, people with darker skin also have to be aware and practice safe sun exposure. Keira talks us through some of the extra skin cancer risk factors and how you can combat these. Skin Cancer Prevention and Support A lot of skin cancer prevention comes down to your overall nutrition. Keira gives us great advice on what supplements you can take and overall changes to your health, beauty, and nutrition to improve your skin health. Keira tells us exactly how we all should be applying sunscreen. Most people aren’t using nearly enough when they apply and few people are reapplying as regularly as they should! She also lets us in on a few more sun care tips to get the most out of your time in the sun. Does this mean that natural suntans are out of the question? Well, they’re definitely not good for your skin. Best to stick to the bottled tan, that’s for sure. Finally, Keira gets specific about what hormone markers you should keep an eye on for optimum skin health. Estrogen plays a big part in healthy skin - but there is a balance to watch out for. What songs will you put on your naked skin dance playlist? Will you join me to check your skin once a month? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Quotes “Pain is a struggle and inevitable, but suffering is optional.” [5:49] “It’s so important to get familiar with what is on your skin and know what your patterns are and looking for any odd spots out.” [8:54] “Anything that you put into your body and on your body, you should find the highest quality that you can. Biodynamically farmed, organically sourced, especially things you are putting on your skin as they do get absorbed into your body.” [22:30] “Your body knows what it’s trying to protect itself and your DNA. So, spray your tan on. If you want that glow, get it! But get it from a spray tan.” [29:02] “Your skin is constantly sending you messages, as is your body. When things show up on your skin, your skin is a reflection of what’s happening in your body. When things show up, they are clues, they are warning signs, and the goal is to see these clues, heed these warnings signs, when they are just a whisper, rather than a shout.” [35:50] In This Episode What to look for when checking your skin once a month [6:45] How to know if you’re at higher risk for skin cancer by using The Fitzpatrick Scale [11:30] What factors cause an increased risk of skin cancer [14:45] What supplements you can use to help prevent skin cancer [19:00] What your relationship with sunscreen should be [24:25] What hormone markers you should keep an eye on to stay in optimal health and help prevent skin cancer [32:00] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Use code CALM for 10% off Adrenal Calm Buy The Skin Whisperer by Dr. Keira Barr Dr. Keira Barr’s Free Gift Find Dr. Keira Barr Online Follow Dr. Keira Barr on Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 20: Breast Cancer Conqueror Dr. Veronique Desaulniers Episode 14: Supporting the Mitochondria with NAD and Peptides w/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 15: Community and Curiosity for Longevity with Dr. Dandra Scheinbaum
Pelvic floor pain is one of the most common issues we have that no one talks about. I’m joined by my girlfriend, Dr. Brianne Grogan, to talk about how she makes relieving pelvic pain accessible and, dare I say, fun. Key Takeaways The steps to relieve pelvic floor pain at home: Deep breathing Relaxation techniques Body scanning Stretching Talk about your pelvic pain About Dr. Brianne Grogan With nearly 15 million views on YouTube and a 5-star reviewed podcast and book, Dr. Brianne Grogan, PT, DPT is a leading voice in the field of pelvic health and wellness. Her viewers love her for her down-to-earth, compassionate approach and for making pelvic floor fitness fun, mainstream, and accessible. Breathing and Relaxation for Pelvic Floor Pain Pelvic floor pain is a serious condition that you can start treating at home. Dr. Brianne Grogan is here today to talk about what you can do, starting today, to ease the chronic pain that’s so common among both women and men. She takes us right back to basics. If you have pelvic floor pain, some of the things you can start doing to calm it down are deep breathing exercises and relaxing. This might sound easier said than done, but Bri breaks some of these exercises down into really manageable tasks. Bri also talks about the Paradoxical Relaxation method. This approach basically takes a look at how you can relax as much as you can - and from there, accepting where you are. This might mean that you accept you have a certain degree of pelvic pain, but it’s much less than it was before you relaxed. Embrace Your Feminine Energy to Reduce Pelvic Floor Pain Brianne talks a lot about masculine and feminine energy in this episode. These energies exist in both of us and we can embody them both at any given time. While masculine energy is very much in the mind of forcing through the pain, treating pelvic health needs a more nurturing, gentle approach, which comes from our feminine energy. By stepping into our feminine energy, Bri explains some of the techniques we can use to relax our pelvic floor and reduce the pain we have there at home. From self-massage to internal stretching, healthy eating to self-care and relaxation, she lets us know exactly what we can do without a large financial investment. I do want to stress one thing: Bri explains why doing Kegel exercises is counterproductive to reducing pelvic floor pain. Kegels help to strengthen your muscles and focus on contracting your pelvic floor - the exact opposite of what you want to do to relieve any pain you’re having! As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode What the basics of calming your pelvic floor pain are [9:00] How you can breathe your way to an ease in pelvic floor pain [12:24] What Paradoxical Relaxation is [14:00] What the differences between masculine and feminine energy are [22:25] What you can do at home to release your pelvic floor muscles [28:30] How our brain and our gut can contribute to our pelvic health [36:00] Quotes “Focus on effortless letting go. You’re letting go without pushing to make it happen, which is interesting because that brings in the energy, masculine versus feminine energy. It’s a very masculine energy to push and make things happen, “I’m going to make this tension go away!” in a very hard-driving manner. We’re doing a very feminine approach to releasing the tension. Let’s see what can let go naturally.” [13:25] “It’s not that it’s in your head, it’s not that you’re making up the pain at all. It’s just that there are some responses that we need to unlearn.” [17:37] “What we need is actually to release the muscles. Kegels are really the last thing you want to do if you have pelvic pain and tension.” [25:32] Resources Mentioned Heal Pelvic Pain at Home, Holistically Find Dr. Brianne Grogan Online Follow Dr. Brianne Grogan on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest Listen to Dr. Bri Talks Lady Bits on Apple Podcasts | Spotify Join the KetoGreen Community on Facebook Buy Keto-Green 16 Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Related Episodes: 154: How to Unlearn What You Were Taught About Suffering w/ Sarah Anne Stewart 156: How to Have Compassion for Yourself w/ Mary Shores 153: Feeling Fit and Fabulous After Fifty w/ Debra Atkinson

Your dental hygiene impacts your entire body’s health, so it’s vital we’re taking good care of our mouth! I’m joined by biological dentist, Dr. Ben Pospisil, to talk about how to holistically improve your oral health for a healthier body. You might have oral health problems if: Your mouth bleeds when you floss [15:00] You don’t regularly floss your teeth or brush your tongue [20:00] You have or grew up with bad oral posture [26:00] You have multiple mercury fillings [39:00] About Dr. Ben Pospisil Dr. Ben Pospisil grew up in Mount Vernon, Iowa. He attended the University of Northern Iowa as an undergraduate and completed Dental School at The University of Iowa in 2004. He is in private practice for the last 14 years in his hometown. Dr. Pospisil transitioned his practice to Biologic/Holistic Dentistry in 2010. He has since become a member of the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, has taken training in Orthotropics/Facial Growth Guidance, is a Graduate of the Schuster Center for Professional Development, and is an Ambassador at the Dawson Academy of Complete Dentistry. What Biological Dentistry Looks Like Dr. Ben Pospisil starts by explaining how his dentistry is different from other family dentists. For once, he believes that we should reward good oral health. This is why he performs a check to determine what level of dentistry you require - and if you’re a level three or four, you might only need to see him every year or two! Ben shares why it’s so vital that you take good care of your oral hygiene. Not only is this one of the first things people notice about you, but your oral health can also impact the health of the rest of your body! Including your heart health - poor oral hygiene can actually contribute to heart attacks. We also talk about an issue that’s on most people’s minds: bad breath. Ben explains what causes bad breath and how regular flossing and brushing your tongue can help remove the cadaverous bacteria your mouth produces. Another cause of poor oral health stems from our childhood. Ben tells us that we never used to have the types of problems we have now, and one of them is actually bad mouth posture. This looks like having your mouth open or your tongue sitting in the wrong position inside your mouth! The Problem With Mercury Fillings I actually met Ben when I was looking for a dentist to remove my mercury fillings. Ben explains why this type of filling can contribute to or even cause your health problems. His dentistry is completely free of mercury and uses more modern processes to deal with cavities. We talk about how you can find out if your mercury fillings are causing you problems. Through a series of tests that get right down into the root cause and test for mercury and other heavy metal poisonings. Ben also addresses whether fluoride is a necessary mineral in our diets. Finally, Ben lets us know what the best foods are for good oral health. From raw cruciferous greens and plenty of other vegetables, what you eat has a definite impact on your teeth, gums, and whole mouth. Do you have any mercury fillings? Do you think they could be contributing to other long-term health problems? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Dentists don’t save teeth. Dentists drill on teeth. If you need dentists to drill on your teeth all the time, you’ll end up with no teeth.” [7:55] “When you think you have bad breath, bad breath occurs normally on the tongue or from gum disease. It’s happening because when your tooth bacteria eats tooth structure or gum tissue, producing cadaverines and skatoles. That’s why your breath stinks; it smells like a cadaver. If your breath is smelly when you wake up in the morning, we need to clean the tongue really well and we need to clean between the teeth.” [21:38] “I don’t place mercury fillings. I think that there have been better materials out for more than 30 years. I see no need to place an antiquated material that was developed in the 1820s in our teeth in 2020.” [35:21] “In my mind, the most important thing isn’t brushing five times a day and flossing nine times a week. Your breast implants could be the root cause of all your health problems! I’m joined by Sarah Phillipe, a Breast Implant Illness Expert, to talk about how you can tell if you have an illness caused by your implants and how to safely remove them. Key Takeaways From This Episode If you’re starting to show any of the symptoms mentioned in this episode, you’re likely already seeing the effects of breast implant illness and should seek medical help. [15:00] If there is any kind of autoimmune disease or history of long-term illness in your family, you should not get breast implants. [16:30] You need to complete full body detox and heal any past traumas so you can move forward in full health after living with breast implant illness. [27:00] About Sarah Phillipe, BSN, FDN-P Sarah Phillipe has a passion for restoring health that has taken her along a path from RN, to becoming a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutritional Practitioner, True Cellular Detox Practitioner, and Breast Implant Illness Expert. She believes the solution to Reversing Breast Implant illness is about more than just the explant and that we all need to take personal responsibility for restoring our health by addressing all of the root causes that contribute to chronic illness. It is Sarah’s belief that the body has an innate desire to heal if given what it needs and she focuses on teaching women how to unlock that innate intelligence and heal themselves. How Breast Implant Illness Manifests in Your Body Sarah joins me to talk about everything you need to know about breast implant illness. We start by actually discussing what it is and how the symptoms show up in your body. Further to this, we also discuss how breast implant illness contributes to many other long-term and chronic illnesses. Sarah explains how, once you get your breast implants removed, you will start to see improvements in these diseases as well. One of the biggest problems with breast implants is that they cause an imbalance and overload of heavy metals in your body. Sarah provides some examples of what these heavy metals are and how they show up in your body. I asked Sarah if there’s a safer implant on the market. The truth is that even though the saline implants sound like the safer option, they still contain high levels of silicone that can seep into your system. Overall, yes, they’re the safer choice, but that doesn’t make them good for your body. Breast implants affect more than just your breasts. If you have breast implant illness, this can actually impact your sex hormones. Since your body focuses on survival and keeping you alive, your reproduction hormones will naturally fall to conserve your body’s energy. How to Safely Remove Your Breast Implants For many women, having breast implants is more than just having a larger chest. It’s linked to self-confidence, that feeling of being a woman, and other mental health struggles. We understand that you might want to keep them in. If you’re determined to have or keep your breast implants, Sarah explains how often you should have them replaced. Yep, you should be aiming to get new implants in about every five years - at about $5k each time. When you do remove them, Sarah talks about how you can find a trained and qualified surgeon to remove them safely. You can find a list of Sarah’s recommended explant surgeons on her website. An important thing for you to understand is that even if your breast implant comes out of your chest intact, with no visible signs of damage or leakage, they can still cause adverse effects in your body. Sarah again covers what some of these signs are. I also want to stress that if you have any of the signs or symptoms Sarah mentions, it’s likely that you already have breast implant illness and should work to remove them as soon as you can. Once your implants are out, you will need to work on bringing your body back up to optimal health. Sarah shares her best advice for post-removal detoxing. She also explains other best practices to improve your health post-surgery. Do you have breast implants? How long have you had them? Did you know that your implants could be the cause of your health concerns? Let me know in the comments on the episode page. Quotes “Regardless of whether you have silicone or saline breast implants, you are still exposed to silicone.” [10:11] “When your body focuses on survival, it is not focused on reproduction. Your hormones are designed to make you fertile and help you reproduce, so when you’re focused on dealing with that chronic stressor, your body will downregulate hormone production so it can go ahead and address that stressor.” [13:03] “Not all detoxes are safe. Not all detoxes are effective. What’s right for you may not be what’s right for someone else.” [25:06] In This Episode What breast implant illness is and what the symptoms of it are [4:00] How your breast implants can contribute to other long-term health conditions [5:05] Some examples of the heavy metals that are present in breast implants [8:35] What the problem with saline implants is [10:30] How breast implants impact our sex hormones [12:00] How often you should get your breast implants replaced [17:15] How your breast implants can cause illness even if they’re intact and with no marks when removed [19:30] How you can approach getting your breast implants removed [20:30] What women need to do in order to heal from breast implant illness [24:20] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Take the Your Longevity Blueprint Course Take the Neurotoxic Questionnaire to See if You Have Breast Implant Illness Find Sarah Phillipe Online Follow Sarah Phillipe on Instagram | Facebook | YouTube | Pinterest Find Your Longevity Blueprint Online Follow Your Longevity Blueprint on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | LinkedIn Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes Episode 10: 5 Pillars of a Toxin-Free Lifestyle Episode 14: Supporting the Mitochondria with NAD and Peptides w/ Dr. Amber Krogsrud Episode 9: Anti-Aging Tips for the Skin with Rachel Varga

How do you set yourself apart by impressing your clients? Hopefully, it is something that can land you bigger and better jobs. If you can be remarkable, you’ll find yourself with bigger jobs than you thought possible. Key Takeaways You don’t need to be an expert in everything. Asking for help, building systems, and seeking out the expertise of others is essential for your business to thrive. Build a team if you can. Outsource when needed. True success is a collaborative effort. Going out of your way to find opportunities to be excellent and unanticipated will set you apart. Being remarkable means doing more than what others expect from you. Going out of your way to build these positive relationships will result in a massive return on your time and effort. About Patrick Moreau and Rebecca Rapple Today, I’m joined by my friends at Muse Storytelling, founder Patrick Moreau and CEO Rebecca Rapple. Their mission is to create well-told stories that lead to positive change. Using the science of storytelling, Muse has told the stories of a diverse collection of brands including Fujifilm and Four Seasons. Getting the Support You Need to Succeed Success rarely occurs without help. Rebecca and Patrick know first-hand that one person can seldom do it all themself. Getting outside help and new perspectives will help move the needle of any business forward. It takes courage to admit that you don’t have all the answers, but the alternative isn’t worth the risk. Being Remarkable in Order to Succeed Success hinges on being noticed and remembered. In other words, you need to be remarkable. Rebecca and Patrick strive to do just that in their business. You may not feel that you are remarkable, but you are. We all are. Storytelling has the power to showcase your remarkability. If you can seize the moment, take a chance, and tell an unforgettable story, you will make your mark. Once you identify what makes you excellent, find ways to automate it. That frees you up to find ways to do the unexpected. You’ll have extra time and energy to go above and beyond and impress your clients in ways they never expected. In other words, identify opportunities for your business to make money so you can get the things that you want.” [6:49] “Being remarkable literally means being worthy of remark. It has to be special enough that someone would actually comment on it proactively. It’s the intersection between being excellent and being unexpected.” [21:29] “There’s just a couple inflection points; moments when we chose to do something remarkable. We went out of our way and it changed everything.” [24:09] “When you have excellence dialed in - when you already know how to do it and it’s a given - it frees you up to use all your brainpower and extra time to really focus on what you can do to be unexpected.” [27:34] “It’s harder now, but that means that it’s more important than ever that you focus on your business. Discovering your passion could be as simple as finding joy in painting and creating or it could be as big as uprooting and changing your entire life perspective. Our happiness is not externally dependent. Where we put our energy and focus will manifest in our life. Quotes: “One of the biggest reasons people don’t go for their passion and purpose, don’t create a life that’s as extraordinary as it could be, is because we’re afraid.” [9:11] “We have to feel our feelings and our grief over the things that we may have lost either temporarily or in the longer term. And what you focus on grows. It’s honoring what is, but at the same time, I firmly believe that there is nothing like times of pure chaos to create something different.” [19:10] “Perimenopausal women are at a tremendous time when our changing hormones will really call us to go within and to shed whatever’s not working, adopt whatever will help us thrive so that we can feel sexy, vibrant, healthy, and successful into our 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond.” [28:38] Resources Mentioned Sign up for the Extraordinary Life Summit! If your body isn’t producing enough of the right digestive enzymes, you might need a little bit of help. Supplementing the enzymes you lack will help improve your digestion and overall health. I’m joined by Steven Wright, co-founder of The Healthy Gut Company, to talk about how he healed his gut issues by experimenting with enzymes. About Steven Wright Steve is an engineer who developed the Specific Carbohydrate Diet to help combat the incredible digestion issues he had since he was 13 years old. Then, he ordered his first supplements and started his first diet, but by 23 he was crying daily in bloating pain. The panic attacks, depression, and constipation were threatening his “successful” life as a consultant. After years of struggle, Steve discovered the secret to gut health and started the SCD diet with his co-founder, Jordan. They’ve now released their own strain of enzymes and give detailed plans of the SCD diet so that other people can feel the benefits of good gut health, too. In this episode, Steve explains what the ancient power of enzymes is. We’re all born with a certain amount of enzymes in our bodies, but years of antibiotic use and poor food choices can lead to the enzymes not necessarily working as they should. Plus, as we age, the level of enzymes we’re born with inevitably declines, which leads to further problems with our digestive health. Steve tells us what the signs of an enzyme deficiency are. From low energy and fatigue to food sensitivities and allergies, there are a number of symptoms that could be signs of this deficiency. Steve recommends that everyone should take a digestive enzyme supplement to combat these kinds of problems. Our bodies have different types of enzymes that work to break down food. Enzymes start working as soon as food enters our mouths and they don’t stop until it leaves our systems. It’s because of all these different enzymes that should be present in our bodies from birth that Steve recommends taking a blended supplement. He lists some of his favorites before providing you his own enzyme blend, HoloZyme. Finally, both Steve and I wholeheartedly recommend that you stop taking PPI medication. Proton-pump inhibitors are often prescribed by doctors to help reduce symptoms of too much acid in the stomach and you should take them for a maximum of 8 weeks! How long have YOU been on PPIs? Do you think you might have a larger issue with digestive enzymes? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode: What the ancient power of enzymes is What happens to our enzymes as we grow older What the signs of enzyme deficiency are How enzymes work to help your body break down food What the blest blends of enzymes are Why you should stop taking your PPI medication Quotes: “You can eat the best Keto-Green, the best organic, you literally could be spending thousands of dollars on your food and your supplements and if you can’t break them down into the molecule sizes that your gut needs to absorb them, you will, unfortunately, be putting them in the toilet.” (14:14) “If you’re following Keto-Green, you’re getting a lot of minerals and you’re getting a lot of charges. That’s probably going to make your enzymes work better. But, if you don’t have an enzyme product that has an activation mineral blend in it, you’re essentially going to have to steal nutrients from either your food or your body to make the enzymes work.” (31:05) Resources Mentioned Grab Your HoloZyme Find Steven and the Healthy Gut Company Online Find Healthy Gut Company on Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | YouTube Join the KetoGreen Community on Facebook Buy Keto-Green 16 Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter
Supplementing naturally occurring peptides and nutrients helps support your body’s mitochondria. I’m joined by naturopathic doctor, Amber Krogsrud, to talk about how she uses peptides to improve both her and her patient’s overall health. About Dr. Amber Krogsrud Dr. Amber Krogsrud is a naturopathic doctor who focuses on holistic hormone health. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry from NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. Prior to her undergraduate studies, she worked in a chiropractic clinic and discovered the beauty of natural medicine. She also developed a passion for nutrition and began pursuing a career that viewed health as a holistic lifestyle involving food as nutrition. To convert this passion to a career, Dr. Amber completed a four-year medical degree at the prestigious Bastyr University in San Diego, California. during her clinical years at BUC, Dr. Amber interned at an alternative health access campaign (AHAC) in Seattle, a clinic that focuses on bringing naturopathic treatment to at-risk youth and homeless adults. As a medical student, Dr. Amber was handpicked as a member of the naturopathic medical student association (NMSA) as the professional development chair and was gifted the prestigious Bragg’s Foundation scholarship award. What You Need to Know About the Mitochondria Dr. Amber joins me today to talk about peptides, but before we can talk about them, we need to go back to basics. First, we’re talking about mitochondria: what it is and what role it plays in our bodies. She explains how we can support our mitochondria from a cellular level, by supplementing our diets, physical level with diet and exercise, and an external level with outside assistance. Amber shares some tips for how you can improve your diet for optimal health. She says that fasting, or intermittent fasting, is one of the most beneficial ways you can eat. Amber uses a red light to improve her mitochondria function. The additional benefits of the red light she uses are hair growth and collagen repair. The final bit of the mitochondria puzzle is the supplements you can take to support it. Amber loves NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide), a coenzyme that your body naturally produces. She explains the different ways you can supplement NAD in your wellness routine. How to Use Peptides to Support Your Health Peptides are naturally occurring biological molecules that are found in all living organisms and have a key function in all biological activity. They’re chains of amino acids that form the basis of almost everything our body does, including producing collagen in the skin. Amber explains the different types of peptides our bodies use to keep them running in good condition. Some peptides are more commonly found in animal products, so vegans and vegetarians may need to supplement these. An interesting study about CoQ10, a peptide that helps your cells generate energy, found that women with breast cancer have lower levels of this peptide. Amber explains what these findings show and how these results have shown up in her own medical practice. Overall, peptides are a fantastic addition to your health. They can promote weight loss, improve collagen production, and benefit your skin and hair health. As Amber says, there really is a peptide for everything! The average person will want to use peptides to help encourage their body to produce more themselves. You can expect a monthly investment between $300-400, depending on the peptide combination you use. Key Takeaways NAD is a nutrient you can supplement that helps support your mitochondria. It increases your energy levels and helps clear brain fog. [18:00] You can use peptides in combination with diet and lifestyle changes to lose weight and improve your overall health [30:20] The average cost for including peptides in your health and wellness routine is $300 - $400 per month. [38:37] Quotes “The overall effects of the NAD is to help the mitochondria. If they’re really in a depleted state, they might actually feel a little more tired; most people feel energized, but it’s hard to know how someone will respond to their first NAD IV.” [20:39] “There’s literally a peptide for most everything. There’s a peptide for everything! But they work through cellular signaling.” [28:26] “For the average person, what we want to do is refine their body’s ability to make more peptides themselves.” [32:57] In This Episode What the role of mitochondria is in our bodies [3:15] What lifestyle changes you can make to support your mitochondria [5:30] The benefits of red light therapy [7:20] Why breast cancer patients tend to have lower levels of CoQ10 [11:41] Dr. Krogsrud’s top peptide recommendations [29:27] Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Join PeptideRX: Recreate Your Health, Dr. Amber's Facebook Group Find Dr. Amber Krogsrud Online Follow Dr. Amber Krogsrud on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative Related Episodes 5 Supplements Myths Pt 1 w/ Tom Houle Anti-Aging Tips for the Skin with Rachel Varga Intermittent Fasting Truths with Cynthia Thurlow

A low-alcohol, Keto-friendly wine that doesn’t leave you feeling worse for the wear sounds like something from your dreams. I’m joined by Todd White of Dry Farm Wines to talk about Natural Wine production and why it’s the best wine for you to drink. About Todd White Todd White is a serial entrepreneur and creator since the age of 17. Today, after 15 years in the wine business, he dedicates his life to educating and helping people make better choices about food, nutrition, and how they think about consuming alcohol. As the founder of Dry Farm Wines, a writer, speaker, and a leader in the organic/Natural Wine movement, he has widely educated communities on conscious consumption. Todd is deeply passionate about bringing people together to share love and laughter through Natural Wine and the health benefits it provides. Todd is a self-described biohacker who practices daily meditation, Wim Hof breathing, cold thermogenesis, a ketogenic diet, and daily 22-hour intermittent fasting. He is also a frequent speaker on topics including ketogenic lifestyle, meditation, and the Dry Farm Wines unique company culture. His entire team gathers each morning for a meditation and gratitude practice. What You Need to Know About Natural and Organic Wines Todd joins me to talk about his company, Dry Farm Wines, and how they’re making big changes to the American wine industry. By taking a more natural approach, historically common in Europe, Dry Farm Wines reduces the alcohol, sugar, and additives in wine while keeping all the flavor. Todd explains the difference between most wines, Natural Wine, and organic wine is. You might be surprised to learn that while all Natural Wine is organic, not all organic wine is natural. The Wine Industry’s Dirty Little Secrets Todd also lets us in on the dirty little secrets of the wine industry. Just like so much of the food produced in America, wine production is basically a factory production: the more wine you can produce, the better, regardless of quality. This looks like irrigating the grape crops, which Todd says actually produce a better flavor without excessive watering, adding chemicals to the production process, and creating wines that, honestly, all just taste so similar. Because wine is naturally colorless, I asked Todd what causes the wine to have different pigmentation. We all love a glass of good red wine! Todd explains the process of adding color to wine and gives us his opinion on whether this is healthy or not. He also lets us know why menopausal women don’t tolerate red wine as well as white wine. It all comes down to the production process and additives that go into creating that gorgeous ruby red color. Finally, we talk about the sugar content of wine and why sulfur is used in most wines, even Natural Wine. Most wine has an alarmingly high sugar count, but we just don’t know because there’s no mandatory labeling. Dry Farm Wines proudly have a low sugar count. Do you like to drink wine? Have you been put off by the additives, alcohol content, or sugars in your regular wine? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! Key Takeaways Just because a wine is labeled organic doesn’t mean it’s natural. Women in menopause tend to have more headaches and other hangover symptoms when they drink red wine because of the additives in it. The sugar content in Natural Wine is extremely low, so it’s not going to spike your blood sugar like other wines. Quotes “All natural wines are farmed organically but not all organic wines are natural.” [9:02] “People who eat a natural, clean diet, exercise, and who care about their body know what they feel like. They know to feel is to understand. They’re in touch with their body.” [32:49] “Our customers depend on us to taste these wines and make sure they’re delicious, outstanding, and excellent and then bring them these new flavor experiences.” [44:23] In This Episode What the natural wine movement is How the wine industry mimics the processed food and factory farming industries What you need to know about the additives, both natural and chemical, used in wine production The role of irrigation in winemaking Where red wine gets its deep red color Why middle-aged women have a more difficult time drinking red wine Links & Resources Check out the full show notes for this episode here Check out the Your Longevity Blueprint Blog Get Your Penny Bottle of Wine from Dry Farm Wines Find Todd White and Dry Farm Wines Online Follow Dry Farm Wines on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube | Pinterest Get your copy of the Your Longevity Blueprint book and claim your bonuses here Find Dr. Stephanie Gray and Your Longevity Blueprint online Follow Dr. Stephanie Gray on Facebook | Instagram | Youtube | Twitter | LinkedIn Integrative Health and Hormone Clinic Podcast Production by the team at Counterweight Creative
The sacred and divine feminine is wisdom passed down for generations, especially through women of color. Professor Claudia J. Ford joins me to talk about how, as a society, we can start reconnecting with the divine feminine, why we need to, and how to work through our grief for the world while still holding on to hope. Over many generations, our connection with the divine feminine has been disrupted. Through colonialism, racism, and an increasing fear of women’s power to give birth, we have lost the reverence our cultures once had. The patriarchy is increasingly, still, of the belief that they are solely responsible and in control of women’s bodies - when this couldn’t be further from the truth. And, in reality, this belief is harmful and destructive to everyone. It’s important that we strive to reach a sense of balance between the divine feminine, divine masculine, and the future of our cultures. By accepting that there can be more than one truth, we can all fully embrace and accept the non-existence of the gender binary. The future is fluid: gender, agriculture, and our connection to the divine. Claudia explains why we all need to engage in difficult conversations in order to heal ourselves and the world, move forward from the divisive culture we find ourselves in, and have hope for the future. Yes, the world is hurting right now and there is a collective feeling of grief. We can sit with this grief while still moving forward with hope for our future. We have to. How can you embrace the divine feminine in your everyday life? Are you ready to have the difficult conversations in order to heal and move forward? I’d love if you shared your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode What the sacred feminine is How colonialism has impacted our connection to the divine feminine What happened to turn the reverence of women’s childbearing to fear Why the idea that women can’t control their own lives is destructive to our society What role balance has in the divine feminine How we can embrace gender non-binary as the future Why we need to engage in difficult conversations How we can sit with grief for what’s happening in the world and move forward with hope Quotes “I think that the women of color, the women from black and brown communities, have been deeply hurt and traumatized and continue to be so.” (15:06) “Part of this new way of thinking is to be able to hold more than one truth at the same time.” (30:24) “The discomfort is absolutely necessary for us to act. Because we need to act, we need to change our behavior. So we feel uncomfortable, we feel sad. I’m not trying to get rid of that feeling, because it feels appropriate and necessary to make the changes we need to make.” (39:14) Links Claim your free Earth Medicine Healing Bundle Find the full episode post here Dr. Maya Shetreat Follow Dr. Maya on Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn Podcast production support from the team at Counterweight Creative
The ancestral connection between Black communities and farming is integral to our health and wellbeing, but unfortunately, it’s been systematically oppressed over the last centuries. I’m joined by Lean Penniman, Co-Director of Soul Fire Farm, to talk about li mission as a soil steward on an urban farm for Black and Brown people. About Leah Penniman Leah Penniman (Li*/Ya/She/He) is the Co-Director and Manager of Soul Fire Farm. Li has over 20 years of experience as a soil steward and food sovereignty activist. Soul Fire Farm started in 2010 with Leah’s mission to reclaim the inherent right to belong to the earth and have agency in the food system of Black and Brown people. Leah’s areas of leadership at Soul Fire include farmer training, international solidarity, perennials, writing, speaking, “making it rain,” and getting deep into the blood, sweat, and soil of the earth. Li is the author of Farming While Black, an actual love song for the earth and her peoples. About Farming While Black We get right into it on this episode of Navigating our Terrain with my question to Leah: What does being black have to do with farming? Li explains the ancestral connection between Black and Brown people and the earth. Slave traders who brought Black people to America broke this connection. Leah talks about the history of Black farming and how when slave traders went to Africa, they targeted master farmers to bring their knowledge to America. And now, Black communities are systematically cut off from fresh and organic foods, leading to a higher prevalence of ill health. Leah explains how over the years, we’ve lost our connection to the earth. This includes a lack of gratitude for using the land. Li says this lack of gratitude has had a negative impact on the overall health of our nation. There is absolutely a connection between farming, nature, and spirituality. Leah shares some of li experiences in Ghana where she learned from Queen Mothers how to truly connect with the land. This includes asking permission from the land: When’s the last time you thanked your soil for letting you plant there or your seeds for nourishing your body? Asking permission from the earth to make changes on her shows honor and respect to the planet that’s been nurturing us for millennia. We need to allow the earth to use her voice - and even more than that, we need to listen to her. Finally, Leah gives us some practical ways in which we can make a difference in our communities. Whether we reconnect to mother earth with our own farming initiatives to supporting Black farming programs, there is something you can do right away to grow your community. How will you give back to your community today? In what ways will you seek your spiritual connection with the earth? I’d love it if you shared your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. In our community, we have a long tradition of doing that. But you simply can’t get those foods in many black neighborhoods. They’re not available, not affordable, or are inedible. It’s all of society’s responsibility to look at why we have these disparities and how we correct and create better access to healthier food.” (10:22) “That’s why we’re spiritually, physically, and emotionally sick. The earth is a sibling and we are treating the earth as a commodity.” (25:23) “I just love the ways that we get to inspire and support each other and keep pushing the envelope towards this world that we all, hopefully, want to see.” (40:19) Links: Find the complete episode post here Find out how you can support Soul Fire Farm and the black community Buy Farming While Black by Leah Penniman Find Leah Penniman and Soul Fire Farm Online Follow Soul Fire Farm on Instagram | YouTube | Twitter | Facebook Follow Farming While Black on Instagram | Twitter | Facebook Rise & Root Farm with Karen Washington Watch Just Mercy on Amazon High Hog Farm with Keisha Cameron Watch 13TH on Netflix Claim your free Earth Medicine Healing Bundle Dr. Maya Shetreat Follow Dr. Maya on Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn Podcast production support from the team at Counterweight Creative
The cannabis plant is one of the most holistic, natural healers in the world. It’s been revered for centuries before modern pharma criminalized the use and production of it. Tammi Sweet joins me to talk about how the cannabis plant can positively impact almost every single person who uses it. Cannabis is one of, if not the most, beneficial and healthful plants on our planet. There have even been links between cannabis and eradicating cancer cells. But Tammi doesn’t recommend using her, as she calls cannabis, without forming a relationship with her. Another piece of advice Tammi gives, especially relevant in our current government client on the legality and funding of the plant, it to share your cannabis seeds with other growers. This allows free distribution without regulation that will benefit the cannabis industry for years to come. Tammi explains who can benefit from using cannabis. From chronic health conditions to anxiety and depression to people who want to form a bond with and boost their endocannabinoid system, cannabis is helpful for most of the population. However, Tammi warns that there are some people who should avoid using high THC cannabis and CBD. In general, cannabis can greatly improve the lives of people who use it. Helping ease pain, improve overall mood, and even impact our digestive health are only some of the positive benefits of using cannabis for its healing properties. Tammi shares why she believes creating a tincture is the purest way to ingest cannabis. She prefers this method over smoking, vaping, or eating it. She also advises what questions we need to be asking our cannabis suppliers in order to understand the origin, purity, and strain of the plant we’re buying. Have you thought about using cannabis as part of your healthcare routine? If you already use it, what benefits have you seen? I’d love if you shared your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. There’s significant evidence that high THC cannabis will help people get off opioids and it is good for pain. There’s study after study after study that proves that.” (5:53) “We’re in a moment where we can actually change the paradigm. Because corporate money cannot get invested right now because it’s not federally legal, the banks can’t get involved, we are at this place where we can all have equal footing. We can support people of color, we can support women. As a way of having equal footing in this huge industry.” (22:08) “When you talk to people and they say it makes them paranoid, the first two questions I ask are, “What strain?” because it’s strain-dependent, and “what were you doing?” I think that if you open too much, in a situation where you weren’t prepared to open, I think that that would cause some negative feelings.” (50:46) Links: Find the complete episode post here Buy the Wholistic Healing Guide to Cannabis Find Tammi Sweet Online Follow Tammi Sweet on Facebook | Instagram Claim your free Earth Medicine Healing Bundle Dr. Maya Shetreat Follow Dr. Maya on Instagram | Facebook | LinkedIn Podcast production support from the team at Counterweight Creative

Years of agriculture modification has destroyed our wheat supply, stripping it of its beneficial nutrients and increasing harmful elements. I’m joined by Dr. William Davis, author of Wheat Belly, to talk about how we can heal our chronic diseases likely caused by an overconsumption of wheat. About Dr. William Davis William Davis, MD is cardiologist and author of the New York Times #1 bestseller, Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight and Find Your Path Back to Health, and several other books in the series. Most recently, he released his Revised and Expanded Edition of Wheat Belly with updated programs and strategies. His books have sold over 3 million copies in the North American market and are available in 40 countries. National media appearances include the Dr. Oz Show, CBS This Morning, and Live with Kelly (Ripa), featured on Bill O’Reilly and the Colbert Report, and in print media including First for Women and Woman’s World magazines. Dr. Davis has a substantial online presence on his Wheat Belly Blog with 10 million visitors. More than a book, more than social media, the Wheat Belly phenomenon has proven to be a movement, growing over time and creating an audience eager for food solutions that are healthy, delicious, and empowering. About This Episode Bill joins me to talk about how modern agriculture has changed the core nutrition profile of wheat to actually make it indigestible by our bodies. This change came from good intentions - farmers modified wheat to increase yield for our growing population - but the lasting, negative impact on our bodies contributes to so many chronic and long-term diseases. Bill encourages you to cut wheat and sugar out of your diet so you can finally start to feel better. Don’t worry, he’s developed some delicious recipes that mean you can still enjoy your favorite foods without using these modern kinds of wheat and sugars! Because Bill also lets us know exactly how much wheat a person can consume before it disrupts their health. Bill also explains why he’s stopped prescribing statins to his patients with high cholesterol and heart disease. As he says, anything statins can do, diet and nutrition can do better. This includes taking supplements to improve your gut health. Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth (SIBO) could actually contribute to many of our chronic health conditions. Bill recommends using an herbal antibiotic treatment alongside a change in your diet, including removing wheat and sugar, to treat this chronic problem. Lastly, Bill shares some of his favorite recipes with us. He’s an advocate of fermented foods like kombucha and his own yogurt (which I’m developing a dairy-free version of). He also thinks everyone should drink magnesium water to improve their health! Do you have chronic gut health problems? What’s your favorite fermented food? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, team@drannacabeca.com. The idea of creating online marketing graphics came up to him while he was on vacation. Listen in to understand how Chris met his co-founder and the journey behind the establishment of Snappa.com. In This Episode What do you need to build your online venture from scratch, to scale it, and finally succeed? This episode takes you through the hassle that the Snappa.com tool went through. Chris Gimmer realized way earlier that he was not meant for the public service even though he had worked for the government for more than five years. In his quest to do something different, he started researching about online business. He would later meet his co-founder Mark who had also been a government employee but had taken up programming on the side. Chris and Mark developed a connection and later founded various companies together while still working for the government before finally settling on Snappa. Without any experience in online marketing or SEO, Chris and Mark launched their first business, a student’s online dating website. Listen as Chris tells Geordie the strategies they used to operate the website and how it faired on. Chris agrees that while the business was growing they had no way of making money from it. This forced them to rethink their operations and in the process, they ventured into research with their main focus on SEO. In a bid to strategize, the two CEOs launched another website which became a market place for templates. Hear the ongoing discussion as Chris tells Geordie how much revenue they made from the website, the expenses they had to deal with and how much profit they eventually made. After lengthy deliberations, Chris and Mark decided to venture into another online business that would enable them to increase their earnings. Listen to how conducting surveys helped them along the way, how Chris and Mark managed to oversee the operations of their business while still employed. How did they navigate through the challenges they faced? Listen to Chris as he shares the story behind their app. With time, Chris mastered the power of keywords in enhancing performance. Listen to him explain how they leveraged keywords to reach a wider audience and boost the performance of their business. Chris explains how the business broke even and the point at which they managed to hire additional staff. He also discusses the content generation strategy they had in place to reach a wider audience and improve their ranking. Chris and Mark are preparing to launch a new bigger and better product soon.

Emerging research shows that our early years have a lasting impact on not only our mental and physical health, but our health, wellbeing, and lifespan. I’m joined by Dr. Sarah McKay, a neuroscientist based in Australia, to discuss the intersection of nature, nurture, and a woman’s brain. About Dr. Sarah McKay Dr. Sarah McKay sums up her research with the words, ‘Nature, Nurture and Neuroplasticity’. Sarah is a neuroscientist and science communicator who specializes in translating brain science research into simple, actionable strategies for peak performance, creativity, health, and wellbeing. As the director of The Neuroscience Academy, Sarah offers training in applied neuroscience and brain health for ‘helping professionals’. Sarah has authored the popular science book, The Women's Brain Book - The Neuroscience of Health, Hormones, and Happiness, which explores women’s health from 'womb to tomb' through the lens of neurobiology. In 2019, she hosted an episode of ABC’s flagship science TV show Catalyst exploring biohacking, brain health, and longevity. In 2020, Sarah will take part in Homeward Bound, a women-in-STEMM leadership expedition to Antarctica. Sarah grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand, and after completing her neuroscience degree at Otago University, won a scholarship to Oxford University for her Ph.D. training. After 5 years of medical research in Sydney, Australia, Sarah hung up her lab coat to build a science communications business. Sarah combines a wry sense of humor with an uncompromising mind, and whether she's writing or speaking on the TEDx stage she tells science stories in a fun and compelling way. She features in print media such as The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, and Sydney Morning Herald. Sarah is also on SBS Insight, ABC Radio National, ABC Catalyst, and Channel 7 Mornings. Sarah lives on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia with her Irish husband. Together they're raising two boys and a cocker spaniel, and they spend time sailing, surfing, mountain biking, or skiing. First of all, Sarah explains what neuroplasticity is. It’s a relatively new avenue of neuroscience that Sarah’s dedicated her studies to. She shares how her studies brought her to start her own science business. While there is increasing evidence that the first few years of our lives impact our health and wellbeing, Sarah provides evidence of how the love and care of someone outside your immediate family can help turn your life around. This gives a strong argument to the nurture side of the debate - and how important activating with love and kindness to others has such a lasting impact. From a family first point of view, we talk about how new mothers and new families need to have support systems put in place immediately. As opposed to returning to work just weeks after giving birth, an emphasis on connecting and building love within the family unit will help solidify that new baby’s positive mental health later in life. We discuss the links between puberty and perimenopause and how girls and women should have support during these times in their lives. Our brains and bodies are undergoing some intense transformation that should run as naturally as possible. Sarah explains what actually causes the hot flashes that women experience during perimenopause. While there could be an argument for taking artificial hormones to suppress these and other effects that come with perimenopause, I believe it’s important we don’t suppress our hormones during these incredibly changing times. How can you show love and support to those around you at all times? How do you manage your perimenopause symptoms? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. Our sexual education has failed us - especially for women in their 20s and 30s. I’m joined by my daughter, Brittney, to talk about how we can start empowering our sexuality after not having a full understanding for years! This is exactly what you need to know about your sexual health. About this episode Hands up - who learned about sex by watching late-night cable porn? Unfortunately, you are not alone. And, also, unfortunately, this has probably contributed to some pretty unrealistic expectations when it comes to sex and your body. So let’s start reeducating ourselves about sex, our bodies, and intimacy. The first thing you need to do is figure out what your own personal intimacy line is. Knowing where this is will help you navigate sexual situations with a better understanding of what you’re getting into. We also need to put the female anatomy at the forefront of our sexual education. We talk about how in sex ed, it’s likely you saw a side-on view of female genitalia, you maybe got taught how to insert a tampon, and that’s it. Learning and understanding about your prime real estate will keep you healthy and ready for intimacy your entire life. We explain the difference between a clitoral orgasm and an internal one. To achieve an internal orgasm, you need to get familiar with the G-Spot… that almost miraculous spot that is not a myth. We had several questions from women asking how they can prevent frequent urinary tract infections (UTIs) and yeast infections. There are some preventative measures you can take. And if you’re sexually active, it’s so important to pee after you have sex to clear out any bacteria trapped in your urethra. Getting comfortable with self-pleasuring is also something you should do, especially with your hands and fingers. If you’ve had too much sensation with a vibrator and are afraid you’ve lost sensation down there, I explain how you can start to reawaken your clitoral nerve endings for ultimate pleasure. We also talk about what foods and supplements you can take to improve your sexual health. I’d highly recommend Julva to improve the overall health of your vulva! Finally, we talk about how you can use coconut oil to increase your sexual pleasure and what you can do to have multiple orgasms during sex. What feels good to you? Often when we think of health issues as a symptom of an unhealed betrayal we think on the grand scale of things, including cancer and heart disease. But did you know that everything from IBS, to skin issues, headaches, and chronic fatigue, could be a symptom of something greater? If you have experienced any type of health issue, there is a very good chance that an unhealed betrayal could be at the root of your symptoms. Inna Topiler is a certified clinical nutritionist practicing a functional medicine approach to health, founder of Complete Nutrition and Wellness, Host of the Health Mysteries Solved Podcast, and so much more. While Inna did not start out to work in functional medicine, it was after a slew of her own health issues and a disappointment with the traditional treatment she received, that her passion to help others get to the root of their underlying health issues and reclaim their health began to take hold. Today Inna is here to give us a look at the connection between your head and heart and explore the vital roles these connections play in your ability to live your life to the fullest. Chronic illness can be a result of your body betraying you, and it is only by directly addressing these unresolved betrayals that you can remove the physical manifestation of betrayal and start healing your betrayal through loyalty. If you are struggling with physical symptoms that you just can’t make sense of, Inna wants to encourage you to look into your past betrayals, start understanding the connection between the mind and the body, and acknowledge your symptoms so that you can breathe healing towards it. Have you ever experienced a bodily betrayal? Share your story of perseverance and determination with us in the comments section of the episode page. In This Episode What to do when following your Doctor’s orders doesn’t make you feel better Learn what functional medicine is and how it connects with your nutrition The difference between functional testing and traditional medical testing Tips for healing after the betrayal of your body and the medical system Techniques to help you break up with your negative thought patterns and pains Quotes “I sought out a lot of conventional therapy at first, as a lot of people would, and I was really disenchanted with a lot of the disjointed care that I was getting. I was really frustrated because after months of seeing so many doctors I still had no answers at all. And I was angry, upset, I felt really lost, but this is where I started to feel betrayed.” (3:10) “With his help, I embarked on this journey to balance my body. Now understanding what was happening, it was really really empowering for me.” (11:28) “If there is anything going on in the body that normally may not be a problem, it will be an issue because of that weak immune system that we created because of the stress, which is really due to this old betrayal piece that people don’t realize.” (17:42) “We shouldn’t be afraid to bring up the negative if we are doing it in a way that’s controlled. Almost that we are highlighting it for deletion, that’s how I like to see it.” (22:34) “Once we feel it, the goal is not to blame it or make it go away. But rather we want to really acknowledge it and almost thank it, in a way, for showing up.” (25:04) Links Complete Nutrition and Wellness Website Find the full episode post here: https://thepbtinstitute.com/118 Do you have Post Betrayal Syndrome? But I feel that when you understand that that is the process, and you learn how to work with it, it actually gets quite exciting. And you get to a place where you have excavated enough of the difficult feelings that you start to see life as a growth journey rather than a destination you will get to that will forever keep you safe.” (14:22) “In order to keep truly opening to your life purpose and the amount that you can give, you have to know when its time to draw a line.” (20:07) “If you are listening to this and you’re like ‘oh my god that’s me, I walk into the room and I am hypervigilant about everybody else’, that’s okay. You can control your health and how long you live by examining your deeply held belief systems and resolving generational trauma. How? This episode with Dr. Mario Martinez explores the links between cultural beliefs and longevity. About Dr. Mario Martinez Dr. Martinez is a clinical neuropsychologist who specializes in how cultural beliefs affect health and longevity. He proposes, based on credible research evidence, that longevity is learned and the causes of health are inherited. He has studied healthy centenarians (100 years or older) worldwide and found that only 20 to 25% can be attributed to genetics - the rest is related to how they live and the cultural beliefs they share. He is the author of the bestselling book, The MindBody Code: How to Change the Beliefs that Limit Your Health, Longevity, and Success that teaches his theory and practice of biocognitive science to the general public. In addition to longevity, he also explains why our immune system is not just a protector. Instead, it responds to the cultural premises we learn to perceive the world. In this episode, Dr. Mario explains why some cultures live longer and how we can adopt some of their beliefs and practices in our own lives. He also shares the scientific basis for how generational trauma happens and what we can do to heal from this. Dr. Mario also talks about the creative outcome from discipline and positive patterns. You know one of my favorite hormones is Oxytocin - the love hormone - well, Dr. Mario talks about what some daily activities are that will increase our Oxytocin and why we should. His research into centenarians has revealed the true role of Oxytocin plays in our longevity. He also shares how creating and following simple rituals can increase your lifespan. We talk about how this collective quarantine we’re experiencing with the Coronavirus can actually alter the way our minds work. What was important to you before this supervirus might not hold the same weight when we’re through this health crisis. What we need to do in order to increase our longevity is to create our own eudemonic pleasure. This is a simple part of your daily life, like taking a shot of rum at the end of the day, which brings you pleasure for no other reason than creating joy. For you, this might look like regular phone calls with your friends, an indulgence that fills your cup, or even a morning run. Do you have any daily rituals or eudemonic pleasures you participate in? As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode: What some of the cultural standards are that lead to longevity How you can be experiencing generational trauma What discipline and positive patterns create Why you should practice compassion How to increase your Oxytocin What power there is in rituals How a long-term traumatic experience, like collective quarantine, can change your perspective on what’s important now How to create your own eudemonic pleasure What a subculture of wellness is and why you should create one Quotes: “That’s a powerful statement. Embody your truth, essentially, embody what is true to you versus the lies that have been told about you. Embody what’s true to you and practice it.” (19:15) “Find out what is good about your culture and see what you’re not doing that your culture taught you that you can incorporate. Then, also look at how your culture limited you. And, sometimes even berated you, and begin to question that.” (43:22) “The antidote for shame is honor-consciousness. And I use honor-consciousness as an anti-inflammatory.” (49:39) Links Pre-Order Keto-Green 16 to get a sneak peek and free gifts! The single most important thing you can do to protect your health right now during this international health crisis is to wash your hands. The next is to boost your immunity. In this episode of The Girlfriend Doctor, I’m talking about how you can improve your immune system starting today by following my tips. About Boosting Your Immunity Do you realize how important it is to wash your hands regularly, especially during an outbreak such as COVID-19? I’m going to tell you a story of an Austrian doctor who faced ridicule over the concept a few centuries ago. Once doctors finally agreed with him, there was a significant decrease in medical and labor deaths. I cannot stress enough how vital it is for you to be washing your hands right now. Stop spreading this disease. Help keep our healthcare system under control. We have a responsibility to boost our own immune system. It’s not just the foods we put in our bodies, it’s also the chemicals we use around us and the air we breathe. Take some time to examine the ingredients in the products you use on a regular basis. I explain how we can start removing harmful substances from our system. By replacing the chemical cleaning products we use regularly with more natural ones, we can start making a huge difference. Also, by cleaning our fruits and vegetables well, we’ll start reducing how much pesticides we ingest. Finally, I’m talking about how you can start improving your immune system by making simple changes to your diet and lifestyle. And you can start today! Sharing your love, increasing your Oxytocin, and taking some of my Mighty Maca supplements are great ways to start. I also invite you to pre-order Keto-Green 16. We’ll be following my plan live and it’s a wonderful way to improve your immune system. I challenge you to watch the sunrise and sunset every single day for the next 7 days to reset your circadian rhythm! How can you be more loving today? Ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com In This Episode: What happens when people don’t wash their hands What our responsibility in boosting our immunity is How we can remove harmful substances from our system What you can do, starting today, to improve your immune system Quotes: “We need to lead. Women in Business: Inspirational Stories of Women Entrepreneurs
If the world of venture capitalism and investment seems foreign to you, you’re going to love this episode! I’m joined by Minni Ingersoll, Partner at venture capitalist firm TenOneTen, to talk about what VCs are currently looking for. Minnie has been in the business of scaling since she started in Silicon Valley - at Google, no less - back when it had only 500 employees! She used her 11 years experience at Google to build and scale her own start-up company, Shift. Then she followed her higher vision to transition into venture capitalism. In this episode, Minnie gives us some useful insight into investment. If this is something completely new to you, you’re going to learn a lot! First, she explains what the different levels of investment are - trust me when I say there are so many! Minnie explains what type of companies venture capitalists are currently investing in. They’re not only looking at the type of start-up, but who’s running in, what team is in place, and what the future projections are. As someone who “learned on the go” how to raise money for her start-up, Minnie is perfectly equipped to explain this process. She details the difference between the seed and pre-seed rounds of pitching for investment. Minnie also explains the three biggest things VCs are looking out for in a pitch. We talk about communication style and why it’s important to understand what type of communicator you are. When you’re more confident in how you communicate, you’ll have more effective conversations. Finally, Minnie shares some insight into how she manages to be the most productive version of herself. Minnie creates an “Enough List” where she lists out a handful of tasks per day that she has to get done; anything else is a bonus! She also believes in the value of knowing exactly what you want for your life and business because this lets you know what type of help to ask for. Have you thought about seeking investment for your start-up? Do you know your communication style? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode: What the different levels of investment are Who VCs are investing in right now How to raise money for your start-up company What the difference between seed and pre-seed rounds are What the three things that Venture Capitalists are looking for in a pitch How to be more in line with your communication style What an “Enough List” is and how you can implement it to be more productive in your business Why knowing what you want out of your business and your life will help you clarify where you need assistance Quotes: “Getting our top-line revenue numbers to a few hundred thousand a month, maybe even half a million, we were able to build that pretty quickly so that we had a couple hundred $K in revenue monthly. That opened the conversation. People became more eager to talk to us once we had something that we could show was working… or at least happening” (14:05) “It’s not just about getting customers, it’s about building something that people love.” (16:20) “Maybe what surprised me about growing my own company was the communication, but it was that the job was less about the business and more about people.” (26:06) Links Listen to the LA Venture Podcast Find Minnie Ingersoll and TenOneTen Online Find Minni Ingersoll on Twitter | LinkedIn Find Dr. Cortney Baker Online Follow Dr. Cortney Baker on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | LinkedIn Join From Side Hustle to CEO on Facebook Subscribe to Women in Business on Apple Podcasts Are you a female millennial entrepreneur who wants to start or scale your service-based business but not sure where to start? Discovering what sets your soul on fire and living every day working towards that purpose makes even the hard days that bit easier. Because when you’re walking in line with your passion and purpose, you become even more driven and determined. Dr. Sharon Spano is here to talk about how becoming an advocate for her disabled son lit a passion in her to help other women bring their family life in line with their business goals. Sharon created a life where the advocacy work she was doing for her son when she was speaking up on his behalf for his healthcare and life turned into a career coaching other women on how their family needs to be considered when pursuing their business. For many in business, balancing family and work simply wasn’t done. But she’s inspired by this new wave of CEOs emerging that exist without the stress and pressures their predecessors experienced. While Sharon has been in this line of work for many years, when she first started, career speaking wasn’t really done. But speaking about her adversity, standing up for what she believed in, and exploring options ignited a career spanning decades - and one that allowed her to be present for the last years of her son’s life. The thing that helped Sharon cope with the loss of her son was being clear about her purpose. She knew that the work she was doing was important to other women. But, more than this, it was the drive and passion that Sharon held for her career that kept her going over these many hard years. Sharon urges women to be confident in their abilities. So many of us shy away from compliments, brush off how good we actually are at something, and, let’s just say we’re the masters of deflection. But when we own what we’re good at? Accept it and embrace it? Women, we are unstoppable!! One tool that Sharon is adamant about is creating a mission statement. By detailing exactly what your mission in life and business is, you work every day to get you one step closer to your highest potential. Are you living in your highest purpose? Do you have a mission statement that drives what you do? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode: What the new wave of CEOs looks like How adversity and speaking what you believe in can ignite a career Why you need to be clear about your purpose What happens when you own what you’re good at How a mission statement helps you reach your highest potential Quotes: “There are many amazing, great things happening in this country. From the very small mom and pop or woman business owner, into these people that are building these platforms and it’s just a very exciting time. You can basically take your idea and be whatever you want to be.” (8:40) “Every family system has its story. I really believe that when you just lean into what is, that is how we move through it with grace and then have a better opportunity to grow from it and come out the other side in greater service to humanity as a result of that experience.” (13:28) “I stay focused on how can I, as one woman, do my part to make the world a better place every day?” (32:23) “I think that the world is waiting for us to step up into leadership roles. The world needs us to do that.” (34:13) Links Find Dr. Sharon Spano Online Find Dr. Sharon Spano on LinkedIn | Facebook | Twitter Find Dr. While confidence is a natural state of being for a lot of people, it is something that you can learn even if it doesn’t come easily to you. Elle Russ, writer and author of Confidence as Fu*k, joins me to talk about what led her to pursue confidence as a career. There are so many different ways to be confident. And for so many confident people, they’re at the top of their game. This doesn’t mean, however, that there aren’t pitfalls to having innate confidence and Elle explains what some of these are. We also talk about how you can be confident in one area of your life, such as your career, but not others, such as parenthood. Elle shares about her disability and the shame that she felt when she initially received her lifelong diagnosis. It wasn’t until she started opening up and talking about her disability that her confidence started to grow back. She quickly found out that by taking the power of her shame away that she was able to live a happier and healthier life, exploring the paths she thought she’d never see. Elle explains what some of the things confident people don’t do. From competing to comparing, confident people don’t care what other people are doing, they focus on themselves and their goals. She also tells us what you absolutely need to let go of in order to step into your own confidence. Like everyone, Elle has had her share of doubters, downers, and naysayers in her life. While initially, their words of discouragement hurt, she’s learned how to handle these people. Elle’s final piece of advice is about how to make your dreams a reality. Less thinking of the “how” to make it happen, as that’s where you’ll get stuck and stagnate, and more trying to make your dreams happen. What has this conversation about confidence brought up for you? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com In This Episode: What the pitfalls of being a confident person are How you can be confident in one area of your life but not others Why you need to deal with your shame in order to move forward with your life How opening up about something you’re ashamed about can help you be more confident What confident people don’t do What you need to let go of in order to move forward in confidence How you can handle the downers and naysayers in your life What happens when you live in the “how” of a dream Quotes: “Confident people are usually the most authentic, they’re the most revered, the most employed, they’re usually the most successful and there’s a reason for that: Because they do speak up and stand by that tenant of ‘it never hurts to ask.’ They take chances and risks.” (5:31) “You never know what’s going to throw you into your purpose or some avenue that’s going to lead you somewhere you never thought you would go.” (33:16) “To me, it’s not about proving them wrong. It’s about proving yourself awesome.” (47:40) Links Buy Confident as Fu*k Find Elle Russ Online Find Elle Russ on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

Launching and growing a virtual assistant agency is the perfect study of why it’s so important to have your process and SOPs in place. Tasha Booth, founder of The Launch Guild, joins me to talk about how she’s achieved the incredible success she’s had since becoming a full-time virtual assistant in 2017. First, Tasha briefly explains what a virtual assistant is and what types of tasks they can help busy business owners with. Tasha also lets us in on the secret to using Facebook groups to find your clients and how it works when you’re a solo entrepreneur and a successful agency owner. When it came time for Tasha to bring in more people to her team, she had to go through some big mindset shifts. Creating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) has been essential to the success of The Launch Guild as these have allowed the virtual assistants she’s hired to have more autonomy over the way they work. Tasha says that over the years, she has learned to be proactive with her hiring, rather than reactive. This has alleviated a lot of the stress of the hiring process, which means that more business owners are happy with the onboarding process The Launch Guild uses. Allowing your staff to take ownership of their mistakes, deal with clients directly, and learn to be better leaders is something Tasha has had to educate herself on - and take a step back from micromanaging. But Tasha trusts her team implicitly, and this is evident in the company culture that she’s building. Lastly, Tasha gives some advice on how any entrepreneur can grow their business: virtual coffee chats! Are you ready to grow your team? Have you already laid out your standard operating procedures? Let me know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode: What a virtual assistant is How you can use Facebook groups to find your ideal clients as a virtual assistant What mindset shifts you need to make when you’re moving from a solo entrepreneur to an agency How creating SOPs can help your team be more independent Why you need to be proactive rather than reactive Where problems arise when you take ownership of your employee’s mistakes How to cultivate a company culture when you have a remote team Why you need to be consistently visible How you build relationships with online coffee chats Quotes: “When I’m having a hard conversation with any team member I like to lead with the Brene Brown quote, ‘clear is kind, unclear is unkind,’ and explain the key times in my own corporate career where I wish my supervisor would have talked to me or let me know if things weren’t going well and given me the opportunity to change gear, explain, or whatever the case may be instead of waiting until it was irreconcilable.” (17:37) “You’re not allowing your team to grow as people if you are not allowing them to grow as leaders when they know that you’re just going to swoop in when something goes wrong.” (20:07) “I love that you said it’s lonely at the top because what I’ve found is that as I do gain more success, there are fewer and fewer people who have been as successful as I am with my agency model. And you don’t want to sound as though you’re bragging when you have a problem that seems small to other people who haven’t been there yet. I definitely think it’s important that you create community that are in your same income and business sphere.” (30:30) Links Find Tasha Booth and The Launch Guild Online Follow The Launch Guild on Instagram | Facebook | Pinterest Find Dr.
