It was frigidly cold in January of 1994, with snow drifts a foot high, as twelve-year-old Rebecca Savarese made her way to Notre Dame Middle School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Suddenly, there was a man at her elbow. She was completely taken off guard because he had approached her from behind. She gave a startled jump, and the man said to her, “Do you see this gun I have?” Rebecca said that she had seen it. The man then pointed at his truck and instructed her to get in. Rebecca balked, and although she remained calm, her mother's words echoed through her mind. Never get in a stranger's vehicle. When the man urged her to get into his truck, Rebecca pretended as though she was having an asthma attack. She pretended to have trouble breathing and feigned dizziness. Her actions took the man off guard for just a split second. He grabbed her and got a hold of her backpack. Rebecca wriggled out of it and took off running down the street, leaving the man holding her pack. As she was running Rebecca saw a man standing outside a bank, “Sir, sir, sir! A man tried to kidnap me!” she said. The man ushered her into the bank, where they called the police. There was no way that Rebecca Savarese could have known that morning when she got out of bed that she was going to inadvertently play a part in catching a child killer. She had no idea that her actions on that day would bring closure to two families and probably stop an untold number of other children from experiencing a horrific early demise. She wasn't thinking about any of that. But when the moment came, Rebecca knew one thing. She wasn't getting in that vehicle. “If I'd gotten in that truck, I just knew I was going to end up someplace dead,” she later told reporters. Of that, Rebecca was most likely correct.Join Jen and Cam as they discuss "Evil in the East: Sara Anne Wood & James Bernardo"If you have any information that could help locate Sara Anne Wood's remains, please contact The Major Crimes Unit at 315-366-6000.A huge thank you to Sleep Creme for sponsoring this episode. In November 1992, 16-year-old James "Jamie" Lusher went missing. Two years later, a man the police believe is a serial killer is arrested, and many people believe he's responsible for Jamie's disappearance. Did he kill the teen boy? Or is he just a convenient suspect? Sources: https://pastebin.com/wuwXZ6b9

On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz tell the story of a missing boy and how his disappearance led to a confession over twenty years later. In November of 1992, 16-year-old James "Jamie" Lusher got on his bike and supposedly headed to his grandmother's house in Blandford, Massachusetts, which was over 12 miles away. He never made it there, and the only clue to his sudden disappearance was his bike being found a little while later near a pond. Nothing happened with his case until 2013, when already-convicted child killer Lewis Lent Jr. admitted to Jamie's murder. He sent police on a wild goose chase for Jamie's remains, but nothing was ever found. To this day, Lewis remains in jail and refuses to give the actual location of Jamie's body, as well as at least one other child's body. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/truecrimene/support

Buon ascolto!Ecco alcuni link utili:Il mio blog

A recent report showed Louisiana's air quality hasn't gotten worse in the past year the same way it has nationwide, but it hasn't exactly improved either. WWNO's Coastal Reporter, Halle Parker, gives us the latest on the state of Louisiana's air. After almost two years of debate, New Orleans' Lusher Charter School finally has a new name. The school, named for Confederate tax collector and white supremacist Robert Mills Lusher, will now be called The Willow School, in a nod to the school's original location on Willow Street. WWNO's Education Reporter, Aubri Juhasz, spoke with long-time Lusher math teacher Jerome White and recent graduate Nia Talbot about how they hope the name change will lead to a culture change as well. As spring blooms and we return to the great outdoors in greater numbers, we might notice something else in greater numbers in our natural environment– snakes. State Herpetologist Keri Lejeune tells us about Louisiana's native species of snakes and how to deal with them. Today's episode of Louisiana Considered was hosted by Adam Vos. Our managing producer is Alana Schreiber and our digital editor is Katelyn Umholtz. Our engineers are Garrett Pittman, Aubry Procell, and Thomas Walsh. After we run down the latest events, we turn our attention to a profile of bartender Peter Lusher of the Woodhouse Kitchen + Bar. We start with his story then turn our attention to cocktails before closing with a few event recommendations. Welcome to the latest installment of the Charlie Tonic Hour!
This week we flash back to a past episode as Ginny and Charlie were joined by Cincinnati bartender Peter Lusher for a Grappa filled episode! What is Grappa you ask? You will learn all this and more as Ginny and Charlie walk down the path of Grappa madness and have too much fun tasting their way through it all with Peter.
Creating your own cocktail recipes is one of the most rewarding parts of bartending. But where to find the inspiration? Peter Lusher of the French Crust Bistro in Cincinnati Ohio talks about his method of creating cocktails starting from experiences. He believes that smells and emotions of a moment can help you break out and move beyond the traditional method of starting from ratios and recipes to get you to what you want to recreate in your drink.
As 2017 starts to wind down, the fun is still going strong with Charlie Tonic. This week Ginny Tonic and Charlie sit down with Frank Seta from Lucky Turtle in Finneytown, Ohio to talk about their 2nd anniversary and how Frank's created a craft beer and whiskey bar that avoids the cliches associated with those drinks. Next, Ginny talks with Peter Lusher from French Crust digging into how he goes about creating cocktails based on experiences rather than ratios and recipes. All that and some great event recommendations for you before it's done!
Teacher Jerome White knew from the first moment he met Donald Meyer that the student was a math whiz—and that Meyer was very aware of his natural abilities. White struggled in his first year teaching Donald pre-calculus at New Orleans’ Lusher High School to convince the student to focus in class, do his homework, or recognize that he might have something to learn. “It wasn’t a malevolent act on his part,” White says. But he “seemed to think he was above it all.” Nonetheless, Donald earned good grades, and after several months of teaching the student, White felt like they hit something of a stride. That was a good thing: White taught all of Lusher’s most advanced pre-calculus and calculus classes, and he knew that he would likely have Donald in class for three straight years. Donald’s junior year went fairly smoothly, and he aced his first Advanced Placement Calculus exam. But by the start of the student’s senior year, everything changed dramatically. Donald was wrestling with a lot of problems outside of school, and he struggled to complete much work at all. White faced a challenge that would have seemed unbelievable just a year earlier: convincing the math whiz that he could pass math.
