This week, we're joined by Koji from Asianati as we kick off Cincinnati's one-of-a-kind art event, Blink! It's a cool visual arts festival that takes over downtown and Asianati is opening an Asian Night Market with food, toys, and so much more for people to explore! Then, we're joined by Mike from Native Audio as well as our returning friend, Tyler of St. Mary St. Michael. We're talking all about the Indigenous history that inspired Mike to create his incredible guitar pedals, and the story behind it. But the best part? His mom made us fry bread to eat in support of his brand new addition to the lineup, the Fry Bread Fuzz pedal. We live for the unique here at Jungle Jim's! All that and more on the show!

"And just as the all-holy body of God's Son, which was taken from her, rose from the dead on the third day, it followed that she should be snatched from the tomb, that the mother should be united to her Son; and as He had come down to her, so she should be raised up to Him." John of Damascus, also known as St. John Damascene, was an influential monk and theologian of the 8th century. He is considered the last of the Greek Fathers and is primarily known for his definitive defense of icons against the iconoclast heresy. His influential body of work includes sermons, hymns, and an encyclopedia that summarizes the philosophical and theological developments of the Patristic era. His significant contributions to the Church's understanding of her doctrine and liturgy have earned him the title "Doctor of the Church." In this sermon—one of three on the Dormition of Mary—St. John reflects upon Mary's participation in the mysteries of salvation, describes the gathering of the apostles and angels to honor her departure from this world, and exhorts all to celebrate the great feast of her Assumption. What started out as a low cost ‘pile em high' retailer in Dublin on Mary St in 1969 has now developed into a global fashion behemoth. We call the stores Penneys but they are known as Primark of course overseas. They'll be investing a further €40m in stores next month in Portugal but today for the consumers of north Wicklow, Penneys will be opening its latest in the chain in Bray. Joining Joe in studio was Fintan Costello, Head of Penneys in Ireland.

Friends of the Rosary: Today is the Memorial Day of St. Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers and the Dominican Order, which was approved in 1216. Alongside the Franciscans, the Dominican Order became the most powerful Order in medieval times, giving the Church illustrious preachers — St. Vincent Ferrer, and contemplatives, Sts. Thomas of Aquinas and Pius V. Born about 1175 in Caleruega, Castile (Spain), Dominic of Guzman received the Rosary from the Blessed Virgin Mary. He spread it during the thirteen century. Through the example of apostolic poverty and the preaching of the word of God — Rosary in hand; at that time, called the Psalter of Mary — St. Dominic led many souls to Christ. Ave Maria! Jesus, I Trust In You! St. Dominic, Pray for Us! + Mikel A. | RosaryNetwork.com, New York

He came to their home simply as a welcomed guest, rather than as one celebrating the conversion of a sinner like Zacchaeus or one unceremoniously received by a suspicious Pharisee. The sisters felt free to call on Jesus at their brother's death, even though a return to Judea at that time seemed to spell almost certain death. Martha's great glory is her simple and strong statement of faith in Jesus after her brother's death. “Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?' She said to him, ‘Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world'” (John 11:25-27). No doubt Martha was an active sort of person. On one occasion, she prepares the meal for Jesus and possibly his fellow guests and forthrightly states the obvious: All hands should pitch in to help with the dinner. The Lord recognizes that Martha is “worried about many things,” also noting that Mary, who has spent the preparation time at Jesus' feet listening to his words “has chosen the better part.” John 12:1-8 describes Mary's anointing of Jesus' feet at Bethany, an act which he praised highly. Immediately after we are told that the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus “because many of the Jews were turning away and believing in Jesus because of him.” Lazarus was the one of whom the Jews said, “See how much he loved him.” In their sight Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from the dead. Legends abound about the life of Lazarus after the death and resurrection of Jesus. He is supposed to have left a written account of what he saw in the next world before he was called back to life. Some say he followed Peter into Syria. Another story is that despite being put into a leaking boat by the Jews at Jaffa, he, his sisters, and others landed safely in Cyprus. There he died peacefully after serving as bishop for 30 years. It is certain there was early devotion to the saint. Around the year 390, the pilgrim lady Etheria talks of the procession that took place on the Saturday before Palm Sunday at the tomb where Lazarus had been raised from the dead. In the West, Passion Sunday was called Dominica de Lazaro, and Augustine tells us that in Africa the Gospel of the raising of Lazarus was read at the office of Palm Sunday. Reflection In its 2021 decree on combining veneration of Mary and Lazarus with Martha, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Sacraments said, "In the household of Bethany, the Lord Jesus experienced the family spirit and friendship of Martha, Mary and Lazarus, and for this reason the Gospel of John states that he loved them. Martha generously offered him hospitality, Mary listened attentively to his words and Lazarus promptly emerged from the tomb at the command of the one who humiliated death." This week I will be sharing my journey from being diagnosed with Stage 3, HER2+ breast cancer, to healing in the top 40th percentile. This story is dedicated to the work I did along the way and what I hope for you is an inspiring story of healing. I will be sharing tips and tools that worked for me as a message of hope. I did it and so can you! In this episode, I share: How I handled getting diagnosed with cancer Finding a doctor that was right for me Going through chemo, radiation, and losing my hair Western and plant medicine The breast meridian grid, lymphatic drainage massages, acupuncture My healing process Finding support and asking for help Work with Jennifer 25% Off a Private Coaching Session Sign-up for the Newsletter Become a Member & Support the Illuminated Podcast Athletic Greens ~ Exclusive Discount Resources From This Episode: Mederi Center - Holistic Health & Healing, Patient Care, Research, Education Texas Original Compassionate Cultivation ︱Medical Marajuana Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas is an incredible local organization that is here to help. Whether you need rides, housework done, financial help, or emotional support ~ they're incredible and understand. There's a lot of grants and financial assistance out there if you need it! They can help you navigate through ALL and ANY of this! https://bcrc.org https://www.instagram.com/bcrcoftx/ Mederi Center HERBAL TEA MIXTURE: 3 parts I. equal parts ~ hibiscus, fennel, uva ursai, lemongrass After you buy the herbs just go on and blend them together in a jar, mix them up, and then just scoop out what you need as you fill the loose tea into the large metal tea infuser. I buy all of my herbs at The Herb Bar on Mary St off of S Congress, they also sell Chaga Mushrooms as a tea and that's also great! Brew it long & brew it strong! In a crockpot on low for 7hrs + I find is the best way II. Slippery Elm/Marshmallow Root Either one. Marshmallow Root is a Slippery Elm. This is a cold brew. 1TBSP : Quart (mason jar) filled with distilled water and kept for 24 hrs in the fridge. Drain & store. Slippery Elm is kind of mucusy for lack of a better word and it looks weird but it's fine, strain it after 24 hrs. III. To Drink Mix them 50/50 or 75 mix/25 elm - they are both super beneficial and I wouldn't worry too much about the balance. Serve warm. Drink as much as you want. It's such a great kidney flush and if you're experiencing any UTI like symptoms it will clear it right up. It's kind of dry but you can add Stevia or Honey to take care of that. BONE BROTH This is such an awesome way to get nutrients when you don't feel like eating and it will really help to get your vitamins and minerals. I loosely follow Dave Aspreys recipe. You can get Grass Fed Beef Marrow Bones from most any Farmers Market. Richardson Farms takes orders and you can collect from Barton. 10lbs will make 3 - 4 batches. It goes a long way. If available I will also add chicken feet, egg shells from past eggs I've eaten. I keep them in the freezer, knuckles ~ really whatever goodness I can find at the market. And vegetables only for the last 12 hrs. IT seems like a lot but it's pretty easy. After I warm it to serve I always add sea salt, pepper, cayenne, ginger, turmeric. Yum! It will definitely need salt, other than that flavor it however you like. If you have any problems finding the recipe then let me know. If you take HERCEPTIN as one of your drugs ~ You must consume OLIVE OIL and OLIVES. IT helps the Herceptin to work better. Water Water is so vital and with everything you hear nowadays I have taken an extra precaution and installed filtered water that is all throughout the house - including laundry, shower, and bidet! There's also a PH tap at the sink to get high alkaline water. SUPPLEMENTS/NUTRITION When I first got diagnosed I went to see an Integrative Wellness Coach, Carl Schmidt at Lake Hills Pharmacy, he was very knowledgeable about Cancer in general and got me onto various supplements; Paw Paw & Methyl Folate were crucial. There's great, short YouTube videos about Paw Paw and how it works to fight cancer cells. It was so hard for me to eat veggies and drink my green drink and all the “healthy” stuff while on chemo and I got to the point where I was too tired to grocery shop, cook, clean, and eat. Ask for help! People want to help you and you have to stay nourished. If you take HERCEPTIN as one of your drugs ~ You must consume OLIVE OIL and OLIVES. It helps the Herceptin to work better. I worked alongside the Mederi Foundation in Oregon - there's a lot of info online. They had access to all of my info; blood work, tests, etc. and they sent tonics and all sorts and that's how I got the recipe for the tea. MIND/BODY ~ SPIRITUAL HEALTH This is a really important time to look after your spiritual and mental health. This is tough and it sucks. You've got to come to terms with the fact that you are down - and that's not easy. While you're laying down listen to something inspirational or calming, meditating, etc., whatever suits you. It's better than drowning in crappy tv and having that vibration bring you down. I recommend Deepak Chopra Soul of Healing Affirmations, The Secret of Healing both on iTunes and it's so awesome to listen to. The Soul of Healing is also a book and a DVD; it's really incredible. Abraham Hicks is also great to listen to. I think it's important to reaffirm that you can do this! Don't ever refer to the cancer as “my”. Do not own it. It's here and you have to recognize that but that's not what you are and that's not how you should own it. You'll get so much literature and books, etc. Read when you can but don't overwhelm yourself and don't look at the word cancer in various forms all over the house. Know what I mean? https://open.spotify.com/album/3rpDTnXBdaciYySxV1ElyH?si=1IvS7Z0WS3CCFQxjnq2BJg&dl_branch=1 Soul of healing Affirmations https://open.spotify.com/album/71M7hkvO8USA2Qlagia2be?si=O1opisxaTs6VurW8wprEcg&dl_branch=1 Soul of Healing Meditations Chopra, Deepak. The Soul of Healing Affirmations Whatever you believe in - believe in it. Pray hard and pray strong. ACUPUNTURIST & HEALER I have an incredible acupuncturist and healer, her name is Rama Chittajallu and her number is 512.293.5388 I saw her for a couple of years before my diagnosis. She is a Reiki Master, Acupuncturist, and a Dr. Master of Chinese Medicine - this is a great addition and balance to the Western Medicine. PETS I had my dog registered as an Emotional Service Animal (ESA) She loves everyone and is just a really special beast and my bestie. She eases my anxiety SO much and truly is my xanax. It's super easy to certify your pet online audit's like $80. Trust me - if you've got a cool dog that goes everywhere with you, take it to the next level, you'll love it! #dailybible #bible #bibleversefortoday #bibleverse Biblical Guide to Life #52: No Mary, No Jesus | Salvation in Jesus, but Through Mary (St. Maximilian Kolbe) John 19:26-27 God sent His only Son as the Saviour of the world through the Blessed Virgin Mary. That is the way that God desires to transform us and conform us to His Son as St. Paul says, "For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family." (Romans 8:29) If He could trust Mary Immaculate with His only Son, don't you think the He would do the same with You and me? St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe (1894-1982) could sacrifice his life in the place of another prisoner because He learnt it from the Mother of God. That is why he said, “If anyone does not wish to have Mary Immaculate for his Mother, he will not have Christ for his Brother.” Why is having Christ for our Brother important, rather essential? It is essential because 'Salvation is nothing, but becoming children of God in Jesus'. God is the divine Family of the Most Holy Trinity. If salvation is entering into the Divine Family, the only relationship left open is sharing the Divine Sonship of Jesus, the only begotten Son of God. That is NOT our right, but God, out of His love and mercy for us, desires to do. All that belongs to Jesus belongs to us too! What a great privilege! But, it demands that we become like Jesus Christ. And, how can one become so, without the assistance of the Mary Immaculate? That is why, the dying Lord gave His Mother to be our own Mother as well. "When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home." (John 19:26-27) Jesus gives to 'only those whom He loves'. So, the question to be asked and answered is, 'Does Jesus love me enough to give His Mother as my Mother?' If we are NOT able to accept the Blessed Virgin Mary, we have to definitely ask this question to ourselves. If we already accept it, how are we cooperating with the Blessed Mother in our becoming like Her Son? St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe (1894-1982) could become Christ-like only because of his being in the School of Mary Immaculate and he had Her for his Mother. She taught him as She did with Her Son, Jesus Christ. Let's ask Her to be our Mother as well! ====================== You are most welcome to follow me on the following platforms. ====================== To understand the Incarnation (the Word made flesh), try this book by Fr. Patience and Motherhood… Can we do both well? How do we show the virtue of patience in a world that promotes instant gratification and on-demand living? In today's episode, we begin our series on the Marian virtues by reflecting on Mary's Heroic Patience and what this looks like in family life. Sometimes our lack of patience reflects our need to be in control. Practicing this virtue allows us to trust God, endure our trials, and persevere. Noosa also provides residents holistic approaches, mind-body exercises, and wellness activities to get the body energized. This luxurious five-star rehab resort offers private treatment programs in Queensland, Australia. While rehabilitation centres in Australia tend to house clients in community accommodation where there is little to see or do, Noosa Fellows offers the chance to learn to live with their addiction. For those seeking a fresh start and a break from the shackles of addiction, noosa offers the best of both worlds. Noosa's all-inclusive program combines evidence-based therapy with the best of both worlds: a holistic approach to addiction treatment and a dynamic program that allows individuals to learn constructively about their behavior and addiction. Noosa is located in the heart of Queensland, Australia, just a short drive from Brisbane, the capital of Australia. Founded in 2010, Noosa's only treatment facility, YT Noosa, offers its clients what they can expect. The facility also offers residents a holistic approach to addiction treatment with a focus on physical and mental health, revitalizing the body and emphasizing social interaction. Noosa Confidential treats every person, not every disease, with a 360-degree treatment model to identify causes and symptoms and develop tailored solutions. The rehabilitation centre has developed a unique approach to tailor its methods to each individual, with an emphasis on physical and mental health and social interaction. One of the many things that sets Noosa apart from other rehab centres is its ability to ensure long-term recovery. Employees within the organization are not treated for symptoms that allow the customer to relapse into the future. No, Rosa's programme goes to the root of an addiction problem, to end it once and for all. This allows them to be flexible, as addiction and behavioural problems are the same. Noosa does not use a 12-step recovery model, and each customer is unique, so the center knows that one size does not fit everyone, so a customized program is a must. Noosa's rehabilitation program includes a comprehensive range of treatments, including medical detoxification. Summary of today's show: Catholic early education centers are the latest trend in Catholic schools, serving children from 33 months old right up to Kindergarten. Scot Landry sits down with Nicolette Clifford and Pat Lombard from Good Shepherd School in Charlestown, which got its start in 2009 at St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena Parish. They discuss Handwriting Without Tears program, TURKS math, and how they incorporate faith formation and serve the various families of the community. Listen to the show: Watch the show via live video streaming or a recording later: Today's host(s): Scot Landry Today's guest(s): Nicolette Clifford, Pat Lombard Links from today's show: Today's topics: Good Shepherd School in Charlestown 1st segment: Scot Landry welcomed everyone to the show and mentioned that a trend in Catholic education is the growth of Catholic preschool programs. Today, we're profiling The Good Shepherd School (GSS) is located in the newly renovated ground floor of St. Mary-St. Catherine of Siena in Charlestown. GSS is an independent Catholic school committed to comprehensive, developmentally appropriate programs that strengthen the school-family partnership and enrich the lives and learning experiences of children. Good Shepherd School students are given the opportunity to work collaboratively and explore friendships but also be nurtured within their individual interests in a structured yet multisensory learning environment. Enrichment activities include Spanish, gym, religious education and music classes. Scot welcomed Nicolette Clifford and Pat Lombard to the show. He said the school was started in 2009. Nicolette said Fr. Ronan said he saw interest in the school in the community and formed the school with a board from the community. They have four classrooms with 70 children now. Scot said a freestanding pre-school is unusual. Nicolette said 95% of their families live in Charlestown, with a few in the North End and one in Cambridge. She said these are the most formative years for children to have a positive experience in school. She said it's a preschool, not a daycare. They have a handwriting program which even the youngest children use. They help children learn in all different ways, not just by sitting at a table practicing letters. You don't get academic experiences in daycare. Scot asked what the goal is when they start at 3 and end by the time they enter kindergarten. Nicolette said they first want them to have a positive experience of school and forming friendships, then start academic experience. At four or five, they want them to be forming words and writing. They discussed their activities within Charlestown where the children interact with seniors and veterans. Pat said she's a native of Charlestown. Scot discussed how Charlestown has a mix of people from all the different communities within the community. Pat said she taught in public schools and retired from there before coming back to Good Shepherd. She said it's a joy to see all the children when she's out and about town. Pat used to teach 2nd and 3rd grades in public school and now she's teaching 3 and 4 year olds and they discussed the differences, such as trying to keep their attention and helping them to be good listeners. Nicolette talked about the scheduled, which has three different day lengths ending at noon, 3pm, and 5:30pm, but most get picked up at one of the two earlier times. She said was always interested in education from when she was a small child. She majored in education in college and got a Master's in early childhood education. They discussed that the school after four years now has a waiting list for students to enter the school. Nicolette said it's a good kind of stress to have to find spaces. She said there are some early childhood settings within the Boston Public Schools as well as daycares like Bright Horizons. 2nd segment: Scot said it's a beautiful school in the basement of one of the most beautiful churches in the Archdiocese. Nicolette said people are amazed that being in the basement doesn't mean it's gloomy, but they have beautiful stained glass windows. They have religious education on Wednesdays by Sr. Nancy, who rotates through each classroom through the day. On Fridays, the whole school comes together in the chapel for prayer. Outside of those times, there's a lot of talking to the school about respect for others and helping others, breaking it down to their level. Scot asked about the TURK math program. Pat said the program is setup for K through 8, but they are adapting the material for the young age level, which gives the kids a head start when they reach kindergarten. Her class is concentrating right now on sorting skills. Scot asked if it's difficult teaching handwriting and dexterity with your hands. Nicolette said they have had nothing but positive experiences with Handwriting Without Tears. She has heard from parents about children wanting to write at home. The children learn in various ways, whether air writing or using various tools. The kids learn from the very beginning, like how to hold a pencil and where to start writing on a page. They hope that at the end the children understand the letters and their goal is for them to be able to write their names by the time they leave. But if they can't, it's not a big deal. They'll eventually learn. They have a Spanish enrichment program, that exposes children to language at this early age. It's so much easier to learn language at very early ages. They learn colors, letters, numbers, animals. They talked about Miss Miranda, who comes in once per week, for gym, getting them active with the Play Ball! program. Happy Feet is a new program that teaches literacy while playing soccer. Pat noted that they have a big indoor space where the kids can play even in bad weather. Sr. Kathleen is their music teacher on Thursdays. They also do a Christmas pageant and spring graduation program. Pat hopes that the most popular part of the day is reading. At this age, you can't read to them enough. You hope that they go home to talk about the stories they read and she hopes that the parents are reinforcing that with reading. 3rd segment: This week's benefactor card raffle winner is Paula Barbosa from Medway She wins the book by Michaelann Martin If you would like to be eligible to win in an upcoming week, please visit . For a one-time $30 donation, you'll receive the Station of the Cross benefactor card and key tag, making you eligible for WQOM's weekly raffle of books, DVDs, CDs and religious items. We'll be announcing the winner each Wednesday during “The Good Catholic Life” program. 4th segment: Nicolette said their hope is to expand someday to add a kindergarten and a first and second grade. They just don't have the space right now. Scot said he's hearing all the time about new Catholic early education centers becoming available. Nicolette said the majority of families are sending children to school earlier and earlier. There's more pressure on children to make sure they can do X, Y, Z by the time they're in kindergarten. Pat doesn't think it's a matter of putting too much pressure on kids, but more and more parents are working and they're wanting to get them to start socializing by the time they're 3. Nicolette talked about scholarships for families that can't afford the full tuition and wanting to provide the same opportunity for all children. They now have a fundraising committee of parents and every spring they have a fundraiser for the school. They discussed many of the schools that kids go to after leaving Good Shepherd. There was also discussion in how Fr. Ronan provides formation to parents and children. Nicolette said they open houses in the spring and fall, including during the day so people can get a real sense of how the school works. Part of the enrollment process is a visit including a half hour in the prospective class and seeing whether it's a good fit for the student.
