Happy New Year everyone! My New Year's resolution for 2024 is to continue to talk about tenderness and how we can actively be more tender to ourselves and to others…especially in the health space. So to start the new year off, I thought it was fitting to share 2 interviews with two amazing nurses I have become friends with from America. Alyse lives and works in Utah and Emily in Arizona. From just taking the time to chat and connect with these two friends, I now how two beautiful colleagues across the globe who are wonderful supporters of Tenderness for Nurses, friends and beautiful humans. You are never going to connect with everyone, but taking the time to say ‘hi' and asking someone about themselves will always be a great start to building relationships. I have been blessed to have built some amazing relationships with American nursing and medical Colleagues. So enjoy my chat today with these amazing ladies and their take on self care, nursing in the USA and Emily's chat about burnout. It is truly food for thought. And finally, I wish you all a tender 2024. Take the time to care for yourself. Show a little tenderness to those who need it, and never stop asking “are you ok, or can I help you?”. Those little sentences can change someone's life. With love Bek xxSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This is the weekly columnNew Year's bubbly 12-27-2023While sparkling wine deserves to be enjoyed year-round, New Year's Eve and special celebrations are when most people experience it. Suggestions on New Year strategies:• First, consider limiting your celebration to your home or friends/family very close by. New Year's Eve is amateur drunk night, and even if you celebrated responsibly, there is good chance others on the road did not.• Sparkling wine is festive and fun. Connotes joy. You survived another year. You have a new year to look forward to. And—from an alcohol perspective—sparkling is relatively low, usually 12% ABV or less. The fizz also gives you the feeling of being full, helping tap the consumption brake.• There is a very wide range of sparkling to chose from. Champagne is high end, from $50 to well past $100. Sparkling wines made exactly same way as Champagne (méthode champenoise/traditional method), but not in Champagne, fall in the $17-50 range.• Great values can be found in Spanish cava and Italian prosecco and sparklings—from $10-20.• Avoid bottom shelf stuff. It is plonk wine infused with CO2. It may cost less than $10, but you will pay the price in the morning. My New Year wish for you: May 2024 exceed the fond memories you have of 2023.Tasting notes:• Famiglia Zonin Extra Dry Prosecco DOC: Fresh, clean, crisp, very approachable bubbly made by Italy's largest privately-held wine company. $10-12 Link to my review• Freixenet Cordon Negro Brut Cava NV: Crisp, clean, one of the great value wines in the world. Very dry and smooth with outstanding acidity. $10-12 https://www.gusclemensonwine.com/freixenet-cordon-negro-brut-cava-nv/#more-12240• Codorníu Cuvée Clasico Brut Cava NV: Excellent, easy drinking Spanish bubbly; citrus, led by Meyer lemon. $12-18 Link to my review• Valdo Marca Oro Valdobbiadene Prosecco Brut DOC: Simple and simply delicious sparkler. Versatile, fresh, fun. $15-17 Link to my review• Gruet Brut Rosé NV: Superb, accessible, correct traditional method pinot noir brute sparkling made with 100% pinot noir in New Mexico. Excellent value. $17 Link to my review• Domaine Nicolas Brunet Vouvray Brut 2020: Traditional method sparkling chenin blanc; pure, pleasing, intriguing lemon-citrus on finish. $29 Link to my review• Domaine Amirault Crémant de Loire Les Quarterons Brut NV: Traditional method. Vivid fruits led by chenin blanc make for a tight, tasty, energetic, clean wine with excellent acidity. $35-40 Link to my review• Laurent-Perrier La Cuvée Brut Champagne NV: Polish and finesse in a lively, fresh package. $53-60 Link to my review• Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé Brut Champagne NV: Opulent, superb fruit, impressive finesse, significant structure. All you ask for from a a world-class Champagne. $85-100 Link to my reviewLast roundNew Year's resolutions: Stop drinking wine and exercise instead. Win the lottery. Odds are about the same. My New Year's resolution is to figure out how to work less and make more while sticking to a quality work/life integration schedule. This is the weekly newspaper column.Optimism 1-4-2023New year. No matter if you look back on 2022 with a sigh of satisfaction or you are grovelingly thankful to survive another solar circumnavigation, time for optimism. If you make wine or enjoy wine, wine is an expression of optimism. Growers gaze across pruned vineyards stark and bare, maybe swaddled in snow, maybe resolutely defiant against the howls of winter. Still, optimism. There must be optimism or you would not be a grape grower. You are confident that in more years than not, after cold comes fledgling promises of spring. Each day dawns a minute earlier. The vineyard begins to awake—vines are optimistic. This is a reader-supported publication. Consider a paid subscription ($5/month) to access bonus material and complete archives. Opt out at any time.By April, the signs of life appear. Sap rises. Buds begin to break. Sure, dangers lurk—hail, late freezes—but this is time for optimism, optimism justified more often than not. After bud break, growers prune shoots to calibrate production. Reducing quantity of grapes increases quality because the vine optimistically concentrates more energy into the remaining clusters.Flowering follows. Grapevines produce “perfect flowers” because they pollinate themselves without the need of bees.Vine grape budsIn early summer, clusters appear. They begin as tiny, green bulbs. Clusters of optimism for the dramatic visual to come. Then, a miracle. The tiny green bulbs grow and change color. Vérasion (“verre-ray-shun”) is the most beautiful time of the year in a vineyard, the time growers optimistically anticipated the previous seven months. Green becomes purple, black, red, pink, yellow. As summer fades, grapes ripen, sugar levels rise. At the peak moment—optimistically with dry weather and adequate labor—comes the harvest. Then, on to the winery and another opportunity for optimism as skilled grape growers hand off to skilled winemakers. If you enjoy drinking wine, optimism goes without saying. Why would you buy a bottle of wine if you were not optimistic it would be a rewarding experience? With this effulgent homage to optimism to begin 2023, I leave you with a twist on an old Irish blessing: “May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind always be at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, and may the best bottle of wine you have ever enjoyed be the one you enjoy tonight.”Tasting notes:• Montes Limited Selection Sauvignon Blanc 2021—fruitiness in a softer take on sauv blanc. $9-12 Link to my review• Siduri Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2020—superb entry-level pour into world of Siduri pinot noir. $17-22. “Happy New Year!”…. we shout as the Time Square Ball drops. My New Year's resolution is set! I'm going to get that new Mercedes, lose 10 pounds, and exercise twice a week …. and I'll start next week. For most of us, our intentions start out well but fade quickly as the days unfold. Maybe it's “easier said than done” as the adage goes or maybe others in our lives—our partners, colleagues, bosses, or friends—have resolutions that conflict with our own and cause us to shift our plans midstream.Let's get some insight from the Stoicess on how to set our minds right for the upcoming year!https://stoicmatchmaker.com
Diary of a Serial Hostess is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a paid subscriber. My New Year's Resolution for 2022 is to not speak badly about anyone (well, and also to lose 20 pounds but let's not discuss that!) As of now, I am not doing too badly. I am really remembering that being kind is a better way to be and, who am I to throw the first stone? On that note, I am the first to have a re-hash breakfast after a big party, and love hearing other people's versions of dinners at home, and thoroughly enjoy the frivolous scoop of who-did-what-where. I am always fascinated by people's lives and how they succeed at life and at work… or not. I don't, however, like friend-bashing. In the world of high society, being a nasty gossip is akin to being a piranha. Yes, you'll get invited only when the host wants you to spread the word, or go to big parties where the damage of your critical opinions will wash out in a sea of people. Gossip, pure, un-adulterated gossip is totally fun, irresistible, and charming. It is a way to share information about someone without malice or ill intent. It is a way we relate in society and how we pass on personal knowledge of friends and acquaintances. It can actually be helpful on occasions, like when meeting new people or a possible beau or even at work when interviewing for a new position. Getting a “heads up” about someone can be the difference between success and failure. Gossip, in this case, is just that… an amusing story about someone with the intent to make them look… funnier, prettier, more successful, charming, in essence: better. Dominic Dunne's books are a great example. Fabulously juicy and full of inside scoop, but not nasty. Nasty gossip, on the other hand, is putting someone down for the sake of it, it is cruel and untrue, often based on a sliver of misinformation and enlarged to create havoc and pain. Nasty comments, for some reason, always float around that person making it necessary to bring it up constantly and defend yourself. It is like a constant reminder of what it was, a life-long dark cloud overhead. Truman Capote comes to mind. Sounds like fun? I don't think so. When I first moved to Palm Beach, I was invited to a couple of ladies' lunches where the girls spent the entire lunch bashing their husbands… I learned more about these people in an hour and a half than they probably wanted me to know. It was horrible. And I have to say they never became my friends. I have learned early on not to say nasty things about people in my group. It always, always gets back to them. Always. Then you have to grovel and ask forgiveness by prostrating yourself at their mercy (see archives “How to Grovel in High-Society). Most people may forgive you, but they will never forget. In time, I have learned to tell the story… as scandalous and unbelievable as it may be without saying names. In the inside knowledge, the guessing game begins and ends with me. There is a saying from Spain that roughly translated says: “Talk about the sin, not the sinner”. And I must say, that I love correcting highly exaggerated bits of gossip about people that I do know. Friends are friends for a reason. Support them in public or move on. In addition, anyone who listens to your hilariously funny commentary about Raymond's little personal issues will always wonder if they may be next. So I say, defend your friends no matter what. Of course, all bets are off in regards to movie stars and badly behaving royals. It has always amazed me how society moves around malicious gossip and how people are shunned for no reason at all. And also, how some people are like Teflon pans; they get away with near murder and society thinks is perfectly all right. Having lived in small, micro-cosmic communities like Southampton and Palm Beach, I can tell you that nasty gossip destroys not only reputations but families and livelihoods. When you hear someone start a sentence with “Have you heard?” or “Did you know” or “How about…” run the opposite direction. These people, the gossip mongers, name droppers, and tale-tellers are dangerous individuals. You know who they are. Stay away. There is a very clear line that separates a fabulous raconteur from a nasty gossiper! So now, I really verify my facts before “telling” a story or mentioning personal information about anyone (without using their name, of course). Being discreet is truly an asset. If you like the inside scoop of famous people, check out these books: Nemesis: The True Story of Aristotle Onassis by Peter Evans. A friend recently described it as: “Wow...eye-popping. A big dish of slutty ice cream and I enjoyed every bite!” Thank you, MC! Dropped Names by Frank Langella: Juicy tidbits of well-known figures (all now deceased) From Marylin Monroe to Bunny Mellon and more in between. Totally riveting. As the “social whisperer,” you should really take gossip with a proverbial grain of salt. Meaning, don't believe everything you hear and don't repeat it unless you know it is true. Gossiping about extra-marital affairs is cruel and could devastate the married person. Telling friends about other people's financial dramas is none of your business and can really hurt their reputations and financial security. It is always about sex or money, right? So, be kind and be discreet. Your friends will be eternally grateful. Last night at our 1st Mantra Night get-together for 2018 we discussed New Year resolutions and how they are generally about wanting to become a better "me". This, of course, leads to a conversation about our having two natures - a higher nature and a lower nature or Sat-svabhāva and asat-svabhāva in Sanskrit. Our real happiness and true spiritual love are experienced when I am living in harmony with my higher nature or Sat-svabhāva. My lower nature arises from my body and mind and is not really who I am. Therefore identifying with the age, appearance, sex or the race of my body will always lead to unhappiness in so many ways. My eternal and spiritual nature (the nature of "me", the soul itself) is my actual identity. My New Year's resolution could be to renew my commitment to the practices which bring about my self-realization and therefore my happiness, peace, a restful heart, and spiritual love. Hari Auṁ

My New Year started off with a 3 day stay in the hospital after going unconscious 5 times while I was sick with COVID-19. In the past, staying in the hospital for days on end would have had really bad consequences for me and my income. What would have happened to your job, your income, and your peace of mind if your new year started out like mine? I talk about this in today's podcast episode. Let's Connect... Pastor Bill: [0:00] Hello and welcome to season 3 episode 16 of The Berean Manifesto; Faith, Hope, and Love for the Modern Christian. This is our first episode of the new year and so Happy New Year everybody, and now Newms is going to get mad at me because I said e'rybody just like he does when I say bidness. It's just how the words come out sometimes there it is so he's so annoyed with me. So, I was supposed to be in Tennessee this weekend but I'm not it's just sad. Pastor Newms: [0:41] Yeah it was supposed to be a surprise for you and sadly your littlest got very sick and you are not here. Pastor Bill: [0:55] Not very sick, but too sick to ride in a car for 12 hours and then spend the weekend at a stranger's house so. Pastor Newms: [1:04] There's sick and then there's - inside a stranger's house… it is a strange house is the correct way to say that. Um second off it was sick enough so that is very sick, because it just been a light fever just been a you know a call for something small like a little sick it would have, not been a problem but he was very sick because he was unable to come. Pastor Bill: [1:34] So I want to just. Pastor Newms: [1:36] Lied to me and you don't love me. Pastor Bill: [1:38] Strangers comment because Zaydiee is coming at me. Pastor Newms: [1:41] Called my house a stranger's house. Pastor Bill: [1:44] In Discord as well about calling you guys strangers as far as Finnick is concerned you only exist on a screen. To him you are in physical presence strange. Pastor Newms: [2:07] Yes but you did not specify so it made it seem like you were saying overall which we are not. Because your horse my feet. Pastor Bill: [2:19] Well he knows you Zaydiee doesn't get on the camera and say hello enough. Pastor Newms: [2:26] Zaydiee doesn't get on any camera. Pastor Bill: [2:26] That's neither here nor there. Pastor Newms: [2:31] Zaydiee doesn't get on the camera for our family bible study on Saturday he's like she still sits in a different room with the camera off she ain't getting on the camera you got on your mind. Pastor Bill: [2:41] I am sometimes out of my mind all. Pastor Newms: [2:43] You are lucky there's even a picture on our website of her. Pastor Bill: [2:47] Hmm right all right so, how was your week Pastor Newms? Pastor Newms: [2:56] My week was pretty good other than the fact that my best friend did not come in. Yeah because I got a text message from Grandma Gloria who is watching with Grandpa Biggs with with big G of G and. Then it was about the Jars of Clay thing so I knew it was semi-important in see now you have to bring it up because I ruined it just like I said I would. Pastor Bill: [3:31] It was it was germane to what we were saying what we were talking about earlier. Pastor Newms: [3:37] It was germane to what we were saying so we was good other than the fact that you know you didn't come in and it's funny because last week I made a joke about forgetting what day your birthday was on which I'm bad with days anyway so it didn't, you were like no it's not the second I was like know your birthday is the second because we were supposed to be here and we were going to celebrate it here tonight so. So it was good mister groggy came over, who's one of our Twitch friends he was excited to see you and was sad you weren't able to come because he wanted to meet you in real life as well, but he still came over and spent the weekend he left early tonight so he is not joining us in the house as he normally does when he comes over for the weekend and leave after because we are getting storms tonight, um and it went from 50 degrees when we left the house this morning, to under 40 when we were coming back at 3 p.m. and continuing to drop more and more as it got darker so there's a chance of snow tonight even, and so. He left a little early in his car because his car is not exactly a snowmobile. Pastor Bill: [5:08] A snowmobile. Pastor Newms: [5:10] Icy roads in a Corvette or is probably really really really bad idea so, yeah so he left a little early we sent him home with dinner so he could still be with, with us in thought for dinner and hanging out so, and Biggs asks on Twitch his screen froze for a moment the fact that they missed what we said how is little man doing. Pastor Bill: [5:50] Well that would be part of my week wouldn't it. Pastor Newms: [5:53] Yes how is your week Pastor Bill. Pastor Bill: [5:54] So he started off pretty strong and then my wife was like surprise for your 40th birthday I arranged a trip to Tennessee to go see your best friend to which I then cried like a baby, um which is okay that's fine, that's fine that all my hopes and dreams were dashed and I didn't get to get my birthday surprise and now I probably won't get anything for my birthday because. Whatever so yeah other than that that week was pretty good, like we said Finnick woke up in the middle of the night on Thursday night, coffin and gasping for air like, kinda like an asthma attack, sounded more like a seal sort of you know and so we've narrowed it down to two croup, usually three to five days of intense coughing and trying to get your air and thanks Biggs Biggs on Church says it's not all about you Pastor Bill. Pastor Newms: [7:06] One thing we can say about Biggs is he is not. Pastor Bill: [7:14] He's not shy about telling it like it is. So yeah and then so Thursday I took the cat, to the border the only boarding in our area that will take cats that haven't been neutered which is about a 50-minute drive away from my house, and on the way there, I had that little more you know like I listen all week for what are we supposed to talk about this Sunday what are we supposed to talk about this Sunday and on the way to drop the cat off I felt like, like the Holy Spirit was saying that the topic of Sunday was going to be You Can't Always Get What You Want. And I was like well that'll be a weird one to talk about in Tennessee with with Newms and and possibly Biggs in there and maybe Groggy be in there that would be fun. Yeah so you can't always get what you want is that's our topic tonight. Pastor Newms: [8:24] Yes yes it is. Pastor Bill: [8:27] And we tried and still didn't happen so so yeah, so there you go so that's what our topic is Tonight You Can't Always Get What You Want, and I was like um how are we gonna make that scriptural bigs on Twitch does that would be a good song I would be a good song with see how would that go let's see hmm sometime about being at a reception and seeing a woman with a, a wine glass in her hand he got to mention Footloose because Footloose is timeless, anyway well Workshop that later biggest we'll figure that out. Newms is glaring at me because earlier he said how many of the lyrics of the song you going to try to sneak in I said me. I didn't sneak the lyrics in I mentioned some of the lyrics like in. Pastor Newms: [9:38] Mmm I see yeah mmm. Pastor Bill: [9:50] That is our topic for tonight starting off the new year, every time every time I look away from the camera. Pastor Newms: [10:05] Well it's straight froze so it was probably the hiccup that did it, the the scripture on the bump Biggs was James for one through to but we haven't quite gotten there yet. Pastor Bill: [10:30] I got you Biggs I got you we're going to look at James Chapter 4 verses 1 through 3 we're going to be looking in John, chapter 3 verses 16 through 17 La people try to leave out verse 17, when we're going to be there we're going to be in second see I looked away again I move my arm in front of the camera and it went off again, 2nd Peter 3:9. Pastor Newms: [11:02] I don't understand why yours is doing that. Pastor Bill: [11:07] First Timothy Chapter 2 verses 3 through 4. Pastor Newms: [11:15] Is that only happening in teams or is it also happening when you are in Discord I don't think it happens when we're on Disco. Pastor Bill: [11:20] Only happens in teams if I put. Pastor Newms: [11:22] So it's a team's issue. Pastor Bill: [11:23] Yeah if a putting anything over teams or I turn my face away from the camera momentarily or. Any of those things then teams turns off my camera like that. If I turn my head away or block my face or. Click on another program other than teams as my main part like if I want to type into Discord, you know that it cuts off my camera and nothing else says that when work when we you and I are on Discord it just works I don't have to look at it I don't have to, anything. Okay so that first verse there was James Chapter 4 verses 1 through 3, and like Newms will send in the scripture bump was James chapter 1 through 2 a so the first little statement of verse 2 it says what is the source of wars and fights among you, don't they come from your passion that wages War within you you desire and do not have, that was the scripture bump and it goes on you murder and covet and cannot obtain you fight and wage war you do not have because you do not ask, you ask and do not receive because you ask with the wrong motives so that you may spend it on your pleasures. Right so you know Jesus said whatever you ask in my name. You know I'm going to go to the father and I'll I'll get you I got your back I get you covered that kind of a thing and then James is like yeah yeah he said that, but you're asking with the wrong motives you're not asking within the will of God you've got these selfish motives for these things that, you're going to use to hurt yourself with and that's why those prayers aren't being answered. Because, you irresponsible you asking irresponsibly so this is our this is our Pepe message for the beginning of the new year you can't always have what you get Always Get What You Want, can't so you need to lower your standards or, because you're not going to get what you want, and that's okay because when you covet and fight and wage all these wars with people outside of you. Because all these problems and then I know it's hard to tell in the English but their James in verse two switches the focus of the tone of what the words he's using, um you murdering coven cannot obtain then he switches focus and he says you fight and wage war that whole statement is used with terms that refer to the, you fight yourself and you wage war against yourself, because you want things that are bad for you you want things that will hurt you, can't get the things that you want and that's not always a bad thing. If you do not get those things that you want sometimes that's a good thing, because you don't know his want the things that is good for you now, you're going to be mad at me but we're going to we're going to go a Direction that's going to upset you but that's okay. Nobody can get what they want ever not fully Jesus didn't get what he wanted. And God ultimately we'll never get the fullness of what he wants nobody gets what they want. Okay so. Pastor Newms: [16:12] Because it's God's desire for us all to follow it's God's desire to have a relationship with all of humanity. Pastor Bill: [16:19] 2nd Peter 3:9. Pastor Newms: [16:20] Heart is broken by the fact that it doesn't happen. Pastor Bill: [16:25] The Lord does not delay his promise as some understand delay but is patient with you not wanting any to perish but all, to come to repentance that's God's will, God wants everyone to come to repentance and do not perish and I know that word repentance is severely misunderstood in today's culture, repentance doesn't mean, you admit that you're doing something wrong and that the way you see life is wrong and that somebody knows how to live life better than you that's not what this word means this word means, turn. Turn right so basically what it means is in your life you look forward and you go you know what if I keep doing this, that's call me bad for me it's had bad results in the past. And it's brought me nothing but pain and suffering and you turn that's repentance you know it's kind of this whole new year's resolution thing that people do where they go you know what I'm gonna drink more water. Pastor Newms: [17:42] You started that before New Year's. Pastor Bill: [17:44] Yeah cuz I saw this bottle on at Target and it has the times of the day on it and I was like nice that'll help remind me to make sure that I'm drinking. Pastor Newms: [17:55] I'm just saying that's not necessarily a resolution for you because you had anyway. Pastor Bill: [18:03] To make the resolution leading up to before the day of otherwise you're just sitting there on January first go and I'm gonna eat chocolate. Pastor Newms: [18:21] That's how everyone handles there their resolutions is that the last moment they look at themselves and go roof what's wrong with me and then figure it out. Pastor Bill: [18:31] That's what I'm saying I didn't I a week ahead at least a week I was like yeah I drink a lot of dr. pepper that's your problem. Pastor Newms: [18:41] Hmm who else is said that a bunch that you drink too much Dr Pepper. Pastor Bill: [18:46] My best friend my wife my mother my chiropractor yeah I don't really talk to anybody else. Pastor Newms: [18:57] And yet they all said the same thing it's odd that that happened like an even even in my ginger ale that I drink I don't drink straight ginger ale, I drink water down ginger ale even. Pastor Bill: [19:15] All right so. Pastor Newms: [19:18] Don't know why I'm leaning so far down tonight I much farther down than normal. Pastor Bill: [19:22] We skipped John 3:16 and 17 because Newms jumped into agree, what I was saying and that's fine but I'm going to read it now, because we skipped it for God loved the world in this way he gave his one and only son so that everyone believes who would, so that everyone who believes in him, will not perish but have eternal life for God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through him, and this idea of perish but have eternal life, this word parish is as idea of Eternal death or what some have called Eternal separation from God, is this idea of Parish that. Is communicated there in John 3:16 and the reason that you know, for God did not send his son of the world, um taking dim the world there was he didn't send Jesus to die, in order to condemn the world He sent Jesus to die because Adam, and Eve and the serpent had this whole interaction where they condemned the world and God, started this plan to do everything in his power to make it right. Well why couldn't God just snap his fingers and just make it right if he's the oh mighty powerful that okay, you know that would make God a liar because God made certain say made certain statements at the beginning that were pretty binding, and even more when we look at First Timothy Chapter 2 verses 3 through 4 it says, this is good and it pleases God our savior who wants everyone to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth and if you want to know what is good that Paul is talking about there to Timothy then you can go read the couple of verses before that in your own time, I'm not trying to steer you away from something and start a scripture on a you know an open end like that, you should go read that on your own because it's a good thing you should read all right so God, wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth and we know, from Revelation chapter 20 that don't happen. Pastor Newms: [22:34] Sadly yes. Pastor Bill: [22:35] So if even the god of the universe who created everything. Said I everything in motion can't get what he wants. Why should we expect to get everything we. And so going into 2022 almost at 20, killing in the 2022 I want you to just remember that this is this can be the year. That you choose not to be a petulant child. And recognize it's okay to not get what you want it's okay. To find a way around that and live your life with joy in spite, other fact that you can't get what you want and if you really try sometimes. You might find you're still not going to get what you want. Cheerleader I almost said the whole line from that song but I didn't. So do you think Pastor names you have anything to add. He stares content content can contemplative lie at the. Pastor Newms: [24:23] Nope that's cantankerous lie. Pastor Bill: [24:25] With a with a hint of disdain on his breath as he. Pastor Newms: [24:31] There's no hint there is straight disdain for you quoting the song, now we've all done it I mean it happens the song has been in my head since you type the stupid title to me and I've just been going hmm. Pastor Bill: [24:47] Can't Always Get What You Want. Pastor Newms: [24:51] Be careful copyrighted music. Pastor Bill: [24:52] That's the status almost thing is that one line there. Pastor Newms: [24:55] So but yeah that I mean it's it's a fact, what I love is when people try to twist some scriptures to say otherwise you know when you twist scriptures. Pastor Bill: [25:16] I looked away from the camera. Pastor Newms: [25:18] Yeah you did when you and I I looked up and there's no the the actual like answers that people have said for this issue, is to delete and reinstall teams, later today we should delete and reinstall teams it's a it's a driver it's a reading your camera driver wrong issue which makes no logical sense. Pastor Bill: [25:48] It won't even let me turn my camera back on now. Pastor Newms: [25:51] So it always irritated me when people try to twist scripture with irritates me with anytime people to scripture but when people try to Trish scripture to say you know, we do it, excuse me if you pray in this way or do these things then God will give you exactly what you want or you know if you lean into God hard enough to where all of your, wants and desires line up perfectly with his will and plan then you'll always get what you want, and it's like okay first off we're humans so we're always going to, like want. When we're not supposed to I don't care how how far you've leaned in sinasohn that's why it's it's listed, a form of wanting is listed in the in the 10 because you can want but then once you want too much it's bad. And you know as. We stated you know his desire his perfect will is that everyone comes to Christ and we sadly no it's not going to happen so. Thinking that if you line up your your wants directly to the will correctly and then they're like well not necessarily his will but but his plan and it's like okay you're jumping through too many Hoops it's just the. You know if you don't get what you pray for there's a reason. That reason might not be even because God said no there is just a reason so. You know lean in move on sadly we don't always get what we want we sometimes get what is best for us we sometimes don't. I've tried the whole night not to say it but I can't not say it because the Bible plainly says that and. I have tried so hard not to because it's such an annoying song. Is your camera still not letting. Pastor Bill: [28:45] Yeah it won't even let me turn it back on. Pastor Newms: [28:49] That is hilarious that's fine your PB that works. Pastor Bill: [28:52] I'm PB. Pastor Newms: [28:55] And the funny thing is is lights up when you talk so it's it's you know just as if they can hear your mouth moving it's just womp womp. But I mean that that's something that sadly we always have to look at and you know it is the root of a lot of, issues and a lot of people can't understand, you know I prayed for it I did everything that was right I did you know why don't I get, what I've asked for why don't I get what I what I want or what I need or feel like I need, you know things like that and it's like well there's a whole Litany of reasons like there is a big list you know God could have told you to wait God could have told you know because it's not, you know it might negatively affect something else God could have told you know because you know God could have told you yes and it's coming but, you got to wait awhile because of other factors I mean there's so many things that can happen but so many people are like well I prayed for it so it has to happen, I mean no so I mean it's always something that has always be weary when someone says you know, if you do this goggle answer your prayers it's like. Pastor Bill: [30:30] When you boil guide down to a formula it's no longer prayer it's now a form of witchcraft. But I mean you know what I'm saying like. Pastor Newms: [30:47] Yeah when you when you try to manipulate. The will let me if you try to manipulate the rules like you know there are people that when you take, certain scriptures out of context like the Prosperity Gospel where you preach you know if you tithe if you give if you if you if you break your neck, for the church then God will reward you, and he will prosper you 100% because this scripture that says that God will press it down and it'll be overflowing so if you give to me God will give back to you and you're like. And sadly because misrepresentation of Scripture A lot of people buy into that and a lot of people have sent their last money into people who are lying to them. Pastor Bill: [31:41] Now, you're you're relying heavily on an implication and what you're saying but not actually saying it assuming people are making the connection that, you're specifically talking about dollars and cents as the implied reward. Pastor Newms: [31:59] Yes yes yes. Pastor Bill: [32:01] And that's not how the Bible works the Bible does say God wants to prosper you and you know press down shaken together overflowing but Prosperity does not mean, exclusively dollars and cents which we've talked about in the past is wide array of what what constitutes as prosper, and it's when you boil the word Prosper down to mean dollars and cents that's when you've twisted the scripture and when you've gone outside of what the actual message there is. So I knew what you were saying but I wanted to make sure that everyone listening or watching you know. Pastor Newms: [32:51] Good job. Pastor Bill: [32:54] Understood the dynamic of what you were actually saying. Pastor Newms: [32:57] No it's that's that's valid but that that is always something that has ticked me off is people who have taken advantage of those types of scriptures and some of them who have gone even the step further making them self rich, in preaching those gospels not that we would ever name names or point fingers but you all know who I'm talking about. Pastor Bill: [33:21] A worker is worth his wage sure I'll give you that but I agree, if you're making that wage, on telling the little old ladies in Pasadena that if they send you their grocery money instead of by themselves food that God will take away all of their back pain forever and they'll never have to worry about money again now God may do that, God has done miraculous things but for you to say, he's going to do that because you send me money you either a better, just heard God say that in your ear or be you're a thief. Pastor Newms: [34:10] Yeah and and it's one of those things where, you know there are good and bad everywhere sadly and humans have issues and I'm not saying everyone who preaches the Prosperity Gospel is bad but there are some who have taken advantage of it. Pastor Bill: [34:30] What is it's a slippery slope and you it's just like anything it's like Paul okay let's talk about politics it's just like politics nobody becomes, nobody gets into public service as a politician because they think, I'm going to be a baller and make lots of money and screw over the little guy that's not what anybody. Pastor Newms: [34:53] I won't say nobody I won't say that I think there are some people who do. Pastor Bill: [34:57] Maybe there are some people who do the majority of people don't but then a year 10 years 15 years in, that's pretty much what 99% of public servants you know politicians how they're living their lives, um And it's it you know it's a slippery slope it always is power corrupts money corrupts attention kurup's it's just it's human nature to give in to these things that, want but you can't always get what you want and when you do you end up hurting people and that's, not good we should never think yeah I'm gonna hurt people I'm going to screw people over because it's what I want, I want it so I'm going to take it and it does it hurt people sure don't do that. Pastor Newms: [36:04] No Pastor Bill: [36:05] Don't be that guy or that gal. Pastor Newms: [36:07] In 1999 might be too high that's 85. Pastor Bill: [36:21] That takes money from a lobbyist or takes a steak dinner from a lobbyist period has become corrupted and needs to not be in politics any longer. Pastor Newms: [36:36] What will the problem is is. You implied you implied Federal level but you didn't say Federal level. Pastor Bill: [36:47] You're right I implied Federal level. Pastor Newms: [36:49] And so that's why I would have to argue with you is because of that implication. Pastor Bill: [36:53] No you're right I applied but didn't State just like earlier you did with your thing I did the same thing you did. Pastor Newms: [37:12] Yeah there's a lot in politics but we won't discuss most of it so anywho because that's not the type of podcast we are that's a different podcast goal is. Pastor Bill: [37:23] I'm going to I'm going to make a personal statement that has nothing to do with the equation house that is political I think lobbyists need to become an illegal thing, we don't need lobbyists anymore and the day and age when, little company ABC Pest Control in California couldn't, be seen by their Senator without a lobbyist absolutely we needed lobbyists and the day and age when the internet is literally in everyone's pocket, lobbyists are just corruption that's my personal statement. That's all I have to say about that alright we're nine minutes away from the end of this episode did you have anything else you wanted to add to tonight's episode. Pastor Newms: [38:13] No I don't I don't have anything else. Pastor Bill: [38:18] All right so everybody enjoy the rest of your Christmas season remember it's a 12-day season that started on December 25th ends on January 5th and then we've got Epiphany coming up. Daily News Brief for Wednesday, January 5th 2022 Happy New Year! It is good to be back in the studio, after a busy Christmas break. During our time off, we actually were in the studio several times working on our 2022 show production, and every year we hope to continue to bring you better and better content along with a better show experience. We hope our shows bless you, and as they do, we ask that you share them, pass them along, and join our club or become a corporate sponsor to support our efforts. We are fighting legacy media that is just about hell-bent on destroying anything that resembles Christian culture and influence, so please support us as we fight, laugh and feast in 2022. Before I bring you Senator Rand Paul's New Year Resolution, Pastor Wilson's reasons for the 2020 rigged elections, and more, I want to you make you aware of CrossPolitic's New Saint Andrews Scholarship for women! Last year we released our first scholarship for men, and as promised, we now bring you our scholarship for freshmen women: God has blessed CrossPolitic enormously, particularly through our club members, and we have committed ourselves to blessing others. We want to give back some of what we've been given. Fight Laugh Feast New St. Andrews College Women's Scholarship: Beginning Fall 2022 In the interest of promoting a hard-hitting, thoroughly biblical education for life, CrossPolitic Studios is very excited to present: The Fight Laugh Feast “Beastmode Homemaker” Scholarship for qualified first year female students who have been accepted to New St. Andrews College. This scholarship will fund almost half a young woman's annual tuition for four years. Because CrossPolitic wants to encourage young women to prepare themselves to take dominion and be fruitful through beastmode homemaking this scholarship is specifically offered to qualified young women. How to be considered for the Fight Laugh Feast “Beastmode Homemaker” Scholarship: 1. Apply to New St. Andrews College and receive official notification that you have been accepted. 2. Write a short essay (~1000) words explaining why you are the woman to receive this scholarship. This essay should be thoughtful, good humored, feminine, and well-written. The essay should include reasons how you believe a New St. Andrews College education will equip you to live for Jesus and defy the enemies of God. The essay should be sent to %%%% Address, Moscow, Idaho. All applications for the Fight Laugh Feast Scholarship must be received by February 1. 3. The CrossPolitic wives (Annie, Sharron, and Jenny) will review all applications and if there is a worthy applicant, we will schedule an interview with up to the top three candidates, and the CrossPolitic Guys will announce the winner of the scholarship on a CrossPolitic Show with great fanfare sometime by April 1st of the year prior to the student's entrance to the college. 4. The scholarship is for full-time, matriculating first year females (as defined by God and old-fashioned biology) at New St. Andrews College (because they know biology better than the Supreme Court) and automatically renews for up to four years. The scholarship is contingent on remaining such a student in good standing (academically, morally), and living like a faithful Christian in our community. The scholarship may be revoked at any time by the CrossPolitic gods, should a young woman prove to be unworthy of this honor. How are your New Year's Resolutions going? Have you joined our club as part of your New Year Resolutions? Well Senator Rand Paul is making some pretty easy new year resolutions, by quitting big tech. In his oped in the Washington titled: My New Year's resolution: I'm quitting YouTube He says he wants to get rid of toxic relationships: “I have come to the realization that my relationship with YouTube is dysfunctional. Sure, I can get millions of views. But why should I allow anonymous “fact-checkers” to censor my fully sourced, fact-based content? They don't want to challenge or debate me with opposing views, they just want my silence.” He goes on to say: “Many in Congress, on the Left and the Right, want to break up or regulate Big Tech, but few of these loud voices have actually stepped up and quit using Big Tech. So today, I announce that I will begin an exodus from Big Tech. I will no longer post videos on YouTube unless it is to criticize them or announce that viewers can see my content on rumble.com. Why begin with YouTube? Because they're the worst censors. Any time I state that cloth masks do not stop the virus from spreading, as in this Denmark study, Florida school comparison, and Vietnamese study, YouTube deletes the video. I always cite studies and scientific sources such as those listed here, but instead of allowing free and open debate with others who might argue flaws in those studies or cite opposing ones, YouTube simply silences me.” In his followup press release, Senator Paul says: “As a libertarian leaning Senator, I think private companies have the right to ban me if they want to, however, those of us who believe that truth comes from disputation and that the marketplace of ideas is a prerequisite for innovation should shun the close-minded censors and take our ideas elsewhere, which is exactly what I'm doing.” Over the last year, YouTube has continued to wage its dangerous, anti-progress of science war against free speech, choosing to act in lockstep with government and ban videos posted by Dr. Paul that dared to contradict the government's position. These videos included conversations with journalists where he discussed the efficacy of masks, particularly cloth masks, and a video explaining the science behind why cloth masks don't work.” I am glad to see public figures, like Senator Rand Paul and Joe Rogan, take a stand against big tech. I think over the years, social media will be come more and more decentralized as more and more alternative options pop-up, and we hope, through the Fight Laugh Feast Network, that we can build massive community of like-minded Christians we can lock arms with, encourage each other, and build Christian communities throughout the US. As Elon Musk said “twitter is not real”, and there is a funny truth he is getting there, and so what we want to see is real Christian communities popup that are antifragile, they love Jesus, and know how to Fight Laugh and Feast like Christians. Pastor Doug Wilson recently wrote a blog post titled: “An Election With More Rigging Than a Five-Masted Clipper Ship”, and while you should read the whole post (linked to in your notes in our app), here is a meaty snippet that I don't want you to miss about the Trump presidency and the 2020 rigged election: “This whole sorry business started with the presidential campaign in 2016, and the surprise election of Trump. Under Obama, our national intelligence community targeted and illegally spied on the Trump campaign. Rigged. No one who did that is currently in jail. Rigged. Bogus opposition research sponsored by the Clinton campaign was picked up by the FBI, knowing it to be bogus, and yet it was used to hamstring the Trump administration for years. Rigged. Hillary cooked up the Russian collusion story and the media bought it big time. Rigged. Hillary claimed that the election was stolen from her without accusations that she was undermining democratic norms, and yet Trump is accused when he said the same thing. Rigged. And what Hillary said was false and what Trump said was true, and these are strange words. Rigged. After the 2016 election, the titans of Big Tech vowed to do everything in their power to prevent the same thing from happening in 2020, and they were good on their word. Rigged. Canceling accounts, banning ads, banning stories, and shadow banning through algorithms. Rigged. Millions of dollars (“Zuck bucks”) were poured into efforts to change election laws and procedures all over the country, without an opportunity to institute safeguards for the new systems. Rigged. Third party partisan groups were given oversight of election processes. Rigged. Deadly riots happened all over the country, with promises of many more if Trump won again. Rigged. The COVID panic provided the perfect opportunity to alter standard procedures for the sake of “safety,” including how close to the counting poll watchers could get. Rigged. Because of this deadly virus we had to have new procedures (like mail-in voting) right away. Rigged. Lawsuits brought to challenge common sense things like signature verification. Rigged. Courts refusing to hear the inevitable complaints on the merits, preferring to dodge responsibility by appealing to “process” or “standing.” Rigged. This craven rejection of responsibility went up to and included SCOTUS. Rigged. Illegal changes made to voting deadlines by secretaries of state, instead of legally by the state legislatures. Rigged.” Dime Payments: Dime Payments is a Christian owned processing payment business. Every business needs a payment process system, so please go to https://dimepayments.com/flf and sign your business up. Working with them supports us. They wont cancel you, like Stripe canceled President Trump. They wont cancel you, like Mailchimp canceled the Babylon Bee. Check them out. At least have a phone call and tell them that CrossPolitic sent you. Go to https://dimepayments.com/flf. Remember our interview with Jeff Drubin and Davis Younts, JAG lawyer, that we did several months ago regarding Navy Seals dealing with the forced vax mandates? Well, according to Fox News: “Judge Reed O'Connor, the U.S. District Court Judge for the Northern District of Texas, issued the stay in response to a lawsuit filed by First Liberty Institute in November on behalf of 35 active-duty SEALs and three reservists seeking a religious exemption”. Judge O'Connor, from Texas, did I mention that, said in his ruling: “"The Navy service members in this case seek to vindicate the very freedoms they have sacrificed so much to protect. The COVID-19 pandemic provides the government no license to abrogate those freedoms. There is no COVID-19 exception to the First Amendment. There is no military exclusion from our Constitution." General Council for First Liberty Institute Mike Berry, who is re "Forcing a service member to choose between their faith and serving their country is abhorrent to the Constitution and America's values…Punishing SEALs for simply asking for a religious accommodation is purely vindictive and punitive. We're pleased that the court has acted to protect our brave warriors before more damage is done to our national security." Pentagon spokesman John Kirby, when asked about the stay said: "We are aware of the injunction and are reviewing it.” The forced vax cases are from over, so be in prayer for what is going on. In a lot of ways, this is not only an attack on our nation's constitution, but the courts do not shutdown Biden's mandates, it will open up the door for all sorts of government shenanigans. You think forced vaccinations are bad, just wait for the forced sterilization of faithful Christians because your kids are a threat to demos, I mean democracy. U.S. reports over 1 million new daily Covid cases as omicron surges According to CNBC, are they a legit news service, well nevermind they are mostly quoting John Hopkins, so I will proceed. A new COVID record. Over one million new daily COVID cases! CNBC says: “A total of 1,082,549 new coronavirus cases were reported Monday, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, as the highly infectious omicron variant continues to spread throughout the country. The new daily tally brings the total number of cases confirmed in the U.S. since the start of the pandemic to 56,189,547. In total, the virus has caused at least 827,748 deaths across the country.” Can we talk about “with” or “from” yet. How about the efficacy of the vaccine? Or that masks dont work? We will infact, but you have to tune into our Mid-week Fix tonight at 7pm PAC. Yes we are back, and can't wait to bring you our new year of shows, live events, conference, and more to you in 2022. We have lots of plans, but we only want God to build our house, unless we labor in vain. Closing This is Gabriel Rench with Crosspolitic News. My New Year's Resolutions for 2020 are simple: I plan to be selfish, unavailable, and unreliable. For an empath, f you implement these changes into your daily routine, you will gradually start feeling a levity unlike any other. Part of being an empath means you always put everyone else first. We are innately people-pleasers. I'm tired of that stuff. Yeah some people say how it makes me beautiful. Screw that noise! Living in a big city like LA, if you're a people pleaser you're seen as a sucker and people will steamroll right over you, taking advantage of you. My turn! Next time I see one slice of pizza left, I'm going to take it, and stuff it down my mouth. Each man or woman for him/herself!

My New Year morning breath was just a little bit better Vinnie so we had a pretty good holiday feeling. I've feeling relaxed. I'm not as refreshed as I would have liked to have been for the start of the year and I know you're more of a sentimental person like wanting to do things a certain way to set the tone. Interestingly I was reading that the tradition of wanting to be doing being something specific at midnight at the start of the year comes from our shameful pass. So the idea that Oh. I should be spending time with with whomever I love. Or if I'm having a good time at midnight it means I'm going to have a great year. I was reading. This actually comes from the shameful past of slavery That's no that. Slaves would be families in slavery. Would the extra nervous four January first because because this was the date when their owners could lease them out to another property so this was a time when families became separated from one. Another so something that we see as this you know perhaps positive or sentimental tradition is perhaps related to are sorted history of I. It's such a weird thing to say to even the the notion of owning people but I think it's important we talk about it because it wasn't that long ago because folks we know still have surviving relatives who who who were affected and of c...
