This week, my brother, Jeremy Lesniak from Whistlekick, and I are brainstroming how to turn The Thirteenth Hour workout cards I've discussed here before into an actual analog martial arts game that could also be a training tool for practicing martial artists. The cards were are talking about prior to cutting them out:Some pictures of the "Easy Exercise Plan" I made for my parents as a teenager that my brother refers to in the episode that was a kind of spiritual precursor to the deck above. Check out Jeremy's work over at Pixel Grotto, CBR.com, and Classic Batman Panels on IG. Can Bad Action Be Good Action?Paul and Steve dive into the listener mailbag to answer the question, “What is your favorite movie with terrible action and a terrible movie with great action?” On the dissection table are classic action films Ong Bak: Thai Warrior (2003); Star Wars Episode 1: Phantom Menace (1999); and two Burt Reynolds films - Heat (1986) and Shamus (1973). Which film was which? In a surprising twist, Steve and Paul also go head-to-head over the iconic Big Trouble in Little China (1986).

Tony Jaa grew up on martial arts films, most of them from China, so he didn't know about wire work. He just thought those peeps were flying around like a bunch of crazy mofos. So in Thailand, he just started trying to learn how to do that shit all on his own. We have to say, he came pretty damn close. This guy is mental, jumping around and kneeing people in the damn chest and whatnot. Super fun movie.Hey, thanks for listening and, if you can, please subscribe! When a city gang member decapitates the statue of a local deity, villager Ting (Tony Jaa) is sent to Bangkok to return the stolen head to it's rightful owners. That's pretty much it for plot but it's a classic action movie set-up with a distinctly Thai flavour; astonishing stunts achieved without the use of wires or computer imagery using the brutal Muay Thai style of fighting, all flying elbows and knees. Breath-taking from start to finish. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. What the fuck?!! Of The Warrior" aka "Tom Yum Goong". We review the 2003 Thai martial arts film Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior featuring action star Tony Jaa in his break-out role. Timestamps: [00:00] Intro, Goblin Slayer Tabletop RPG, Ultraman Trigger [27:40] Review of Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior [1:44:12] Twitter Questions
Ho ho ho! The Secret Movie Club Team (Connor Lloyd Crews, Edwin Gomez, Daniel Ott, and Craig Hammill) unwraps their gifts from themselves: they did a Secret Santa but with movies! Edwin has a hard time opening the 2003 martial arts film, Ong-Bak. Connor isn't quite sure how to operate the star-studded disaster movie, Airport ‘77. Daniel didn't ask for – but is pleasantly surprised by – 2014 indie sci-fi comedy, The Infinite Man. And, in a Christmas miracle, Craig gets exactly what he wanted: Spielberg's new autobiographical film, The Fabelmans! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Secret Movie Clubbers!
Pham and Jonesy talk about Ong-Bak (2003)
