South Korean Defense Firms sign two large deals in Peru:- Heavy Hyundai Industries (HHI) for construction of one frigate, two landing craft units, & an offshore patrol vessel.  Deal is worth $460 million with delivery in 2029.-  Hyundai Rotem for 30 x White Tiger Armored Vehicles for Peruvian Army. Deal is worth approximately $60 million. 7. US Navy Successfully Fires Patriot Missile via Aegis System at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico.8. US Army signs a $756 million contract with Lockheed Martin to support the Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) effort.  Lockheed Martin will provide LRHW Battery equipment, system & software engineering, and logistics support.

Yesterday CNN reported that the Biden administration has decided on a significant escalation in Ukraine: providing Kiev with the most advanced US missile defense system, the Patriot Missile system. Vicky has served in the U.S. Army for about ten years, first as a Patriot Missile operator while on active duty, and now as a Chaplain's Assistant in the Army Reserves. She also works as a Senior Academic Advisor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she advises students, including military veterans. She has a bachelor's degree in Criminology and a master's degree in Criminal Justice, and she briefly worked as an IT specialist while on active duty in the Army. She shared how she initially planned to become a police officer with the NYPD, but got kicked out of college, joined the military, learned about structure and discipline while in the military, and then went back to school to finish her bachelor's degree. Now she is very passionate about her civilian job because she has had the benefit of perspective to evaluate her life and goals before and after joining the military.We talked about the nature of cybersecurity within school systems, how people make common mistakes with email accounts, passwords, misinformation on social media, and the adverse effects of poor cyber hygiene, including doing things that could potentially sabotage future security clearances, mental health issues, trauma, and so on. US troops travel from Germany to Poland to train with Polish soldiers in the use of Patriot Missiles and improve ground to air defense. The exercise, called Panther Assurance, received a visit from Antoni Macierewicz, the Polish Minister of Defense, who emphasized the importance of increasing Poland’s defense budget to protect NATO’s eastern flank. Footage includes various shots of Polish and US troops working together during the exercise. In western Poland, Polish and US troops train in the use of Patriot missiles, improving ground to air defense on NATO’s eastern flank. Poland has pledged to spend $42 billion on defense over the next decade.

Jerry Pournelle (author, journalist, editor, technology columnist, and military textbook writer) is today's featured guest. (This is the second portion of our two-hour interview. The third and final portion will be provided next week.) Topics today include: How he contributed to President Ronald Reagan's State of the Union Address in 1980, and became part of Reagan's group of advisers concerning the Strategic Defence Initiative (which Ted Kennedy, by the way, dubbed Star Wars because he did not believe it would ever be possible to shoot down an incoming missile with one of our own missiles). And how this lead directly to the Patriot Missile and other missiles which routinely do the impossible by routinely shooting down incoming missiles. Laser-based warfare: including one proposal that would turn Grand Coulee Dam into a space-based weapon of immense power and very nearly global reach. A weapon so powerful that only one would be needed in a war. Pournelle's Iron Law of Bureaucracy, which states that, 'In any bureaucracy, the people devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself always get in control and those dedicated to the goals which the bureaucracy is supposed to accomplish have less and less influence, and sometimes are eliminated entirely.'
