Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep **We apologize for the technical challenges we experienced with this episode. The sound quality does not meet our standards, but Larry's stories are as fantastic as ever** Larry Seiple was a seventh-round draft choice of the Miami Dolphins in 1967 and went on to play 11 seasons with the team as a punter, halfback and tight end. Seiple led the Dolphins with 577 receiving yards and 5 TD receptions in 1969, but he is best remembered for his fake punt in the 1972 AFC Championship game against the Pittsburgh Steelers when his 37-yard scamper set up Miami's first score and propelled the team to a 21-17 victory and keeping the Perfect Season alive. Following his playing career, Seiple spent 20 years coaching in the NFL, including 12 seasons (1988-1999) with the Dolphins. In The Tank, “Seip” recalls the early years with the Dolphins playing for George Wilson, the dramatic shift that took place when Don Shula took the reigns in Miami, reveals who called the fake punt that has defined his playing career, shares which Dolphins Super Bowl Champion he feels was the better team, and sheds some light on what it was like to coach a young OJ McDuffie. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Miami native, Randal Hill, stayed home after a standout career at Miami Killian High School to help the University of Miami capture National Championships in 1987 and 1989. Two years later, the Miami Dolphins made Hill their first-round draft choice, selecting him number 23 overall in the 1991 Draft. Randal's eight-year NFL career included three seasons in Miami (1991, 1995, 1996), including the final year in which he was reunited with his college coach, Jimmy Johnson. In The Tank, “Thrill” discusses the pressure and prestige of playing for the University of Miami in the late 1980s, his move from high school cornerback to college receiver, his infamous touchdown and celebration during the 1991 Cotton Bowl against Texas, rooming with OJ on the road, life as a federal agent, and through it all, the importance of family. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Following a standout career at the University of Wisconsin, Chris Chambers left his snow boots and winter coats behind, as he became the Miami Dolphins second-round draft choice in 2001. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Once considered an undersized project from Akron University, Jason Taylor went on to become the most storied defender in Miami Dolphins history and as dynamic of a defensive playmaker that the National Football League had ever seen. As a pass rusher, Taylor shattered the Dolphins sack record and finished his career ranked sixth (now seventh) all-time in league annals with 139.5 quarterback takedowns. A six-time Pro Bowl selection and three-time first-team All Pro, Taylor was named the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and 2007 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year. In 2017, his first year of eligibility, he was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In The Tank, JT discusses overcoming early questions about his size and toughness, questioning his own ability in his first Jimmy Johnson training camp, and the value of having learned under Nick Saban. He also vividly recalls a brawl with former Fins guard, John Bock, an ill-advised motorcycle ride with defensive tackle Daryl Gardener, his unique relationships with Cam Cameron and Bill Parcells, and the time Michael Jordan visited him during a post-practice meeting. OJ and Seth couldn't let JT go without addressing his reputation at Juice's weekly basketball games. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Season One comes to a close as OJ and Seth reflect on more classic Fish Tank moments. There is no reason to dig through your archives when the guys have done it for you! Do you remember when Ronnie Brown had to carry Ricky Williams? And we don't mean during a game! How about Troy Stradford taking on Bruce Smith, or Louis Oliver recalling a special gift Bryan Cox prepared for a deserving Bills fan? Who can forget David Bowens and Daryl Gardener inviting some friends over for a workout or Vonnie Holliday's retelling of a gamble that did not pay off for Jason Taylor. Listen as Patrick Surtain explains why a lost freestyle rap battle to Morlon Greenwood wasn't what it seemed, or former PR man Harvey Greene sharing a moment with Coach Shula that he will never forget. Speaking of Coach Shula, Mark Clayton details the sequence of events that ultimately changed his relationship with The Don forever and Joe Rose shares why it's wise to drive your own vehicle when going out on the town with Clayton and fellow Marx Brother, Mark Duper. And no “Best Of” is complete without Channing Crowder absolutely blowing your mind. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Mark Clayton landed in Miami as an unheralded eighth-round draft choice in 1983, a member of the same draft class as Dan Marino. Following a quiet rookie season, Clayton joined Marino in re-writing NFL record books, hauling in 18 of Marino's 48 touchdown passes to set a new single-season league record. Clayton paired with Mark Duper to form the popular “Marks Brothers” and became the most prolific wide receiver in team history, as well as one of the most dominant in league annals. In The Tank, Clayton discusses that magical 1984 season, his love for playing hard, both on and off the field, why he feels he deserves a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, trash talking with Don Shula, and the circumstances that led him to refer to the legendary Head Coach as “the fat man” following a game against the San Francisco 49ers. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep Adewale Ogunleye signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted rookie free agent defensive end in 2000 after a severe knee injury derailed a promising college career at Indiana. Once healthy, Ogunleye proved he was an absolute steal, starting opposite Jason Taylor and registering 9.5 sacks in 2002 and an AFC leading 15 sacks in 2003. Following a trip to the Pro Bowl, Ogunleye was traded to the Chicago Bears prior to the 2004 season and helped lead the Bears to an appearance in Super Bowl XLI the following year. In The Tank, “Wale” discusses his grandfather, the King of Emure-Ekiti in Nigeria, how a friendship with Dave Wannstedt's daughter in college helped him land with the Dolphins, the characters that made up the defensive line meeting room, and why he was a frequent visitor at OJ's house despite rarely touching the hoop court. Miami Dolphins Tales From The Deep John Bock attended the University of Louisville, playing collegiately under legendary Head Coach Howard Schnellenberger. After a one-year stint with the New York Jets in 1995, Bock landed in Miami in 96, where he would remain for the final five years of his career. Bock's versatility made him a valuable player along the Dolphins offensive line, but it was his hard-nosed approach that he was best remembered Bock literally fought and clawed his way through each and every practice and game, and in Tank, he recalls one brawl after another with OJ and Seth. Mark Dixon took the long road to the NFL after an All-American career at Virginia was derailed by injuries. Dixon went undrafted and had stops in Philadelphia, the World League and the CFL before Jimmy Johnson pulled off another personnel magic trick and brought him to Miami in 1998. Dixon instantly became a stalwart on the Dolphins' offensive line, starting 60 of the 62 games he played in from 1998 – 2003. Mark dives into The Tank with OJ and Seth for his first Dolphins related interview in more than a decade and makes up for lost time. Fish Tank listeners have heard Dixon's name in nearly every episode, but now the man himself discusses his constant fear of getting cut from the team, lessons learned from playing beside perennial All-Pro Richmond Webb, and battles against Hall of Fame defensive tackles like John Randle and Warren Sapp. Dixon's off the field memories, however, are what listeners have been waiting to hear and he does not disappoint, giving his side of the road trips to Gainesville with Zach Thomas and Seth, and of course, he dominance on OJ's basketball court.
