Consumer NZ's latest power company satisfaction survey has found customer satisfaction rating is just 54%. And, again, the smaller retailers are the most popular. Frank Energy also received the People's Choice award. Powershop also rated with satisfaction scores of 74% and 67% respectively. Consumer NZ's Jessica Walker was on the line.

The smaller eCommerce platforms might claim to be cheaper than other mainstream platforms such as Shopify or BigCommerce. They might also have claims such as not charging the transaction fee. But let's face it! Most eCommerce platforms are owned or have an alliance with payment companies. That's how they make money. Running an eCommerce platform is expensive, and the fee that you pay barely covers the cost of running the platform. So is EKM Powershop really a deal, as they claim? In today's episode, we are going to independently review EKM Powershop's capabilities. We covered many grounds, including the affiliation of eCommerce merchants with payment providers. Finally, we covered the risks with the smaller eCommerce providers and why these risks may not be worth the discount you might be getting on your transactions through smaller vendors. For more information on growth strategies for SMBs using ERP and digital transformation, visit our community at wbs.rocks or elevatiq.com. On this episode of The Grapevine Kulja and Dylan get on the line with Walkley award winning journalist and author Jeff Sparrow to break down Defence Minister Peter Dutton's anti-China rhetoric in the context of Russia's threats to invade Ukraine and how this aggressively hawkish national security stance may impact the Coalition at the election. Then, Hannah McLeay from Greenpeace Australia dials in to talk about the launch of the Green Electricity Guide, which is designed to help Australian's make a difference when it comes to climate change through the choice of their energy provider. McLeary talks through how power suppliers are ranked, gives an overview of ‘green power', and provides an update on where green power is at the moment in the wake of Powershop's sale to Shell. And with sport back on the courts, Kulja and Dylan speak with Dr Ryan Storr about the project he co-founded, ‘Rainbow Roadmap'. Launched by Proud2Play, this project is a sector-wide initiative in partnership with VicSport to promote LGBTQIA+ inclusion across sport and recreation in the state.
We talk about Shell's acquisition of Powershop and the cool cool Labor party. Power flop Powershop got acquired by Shell. Energy Australia cancelled their partnership with Powershop. Amber Electric got sassy. Shell have said they plan to reach “net zero” by 2050. Opposition party? The Labor party have announced a plan to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030 if they are elected. Such ambition! They've also dumped plans for vehicle emissions standards. And worked with the government to hand out more subsidies to gas miners. Oh also they worked with the LNP to stifle criticism from charities. Actions Change your energy provider again. Sorry. Hopefully it'll work out next time! Check out Co Power or Amber Electric. Listen to A Serious Danger, it's good!
Powershop was one of Australia's fastest growing energy companies. It's investment in renewables and political advocacy for climate change action made it one of the most popular electricity providers in the country. But in a shock announcement to its customers, Powershop announced it had been sold to one of the world's biggest polluters.Today, national correspondent for The Saturday Paper Mike Seccombe on the sale of Powershop, and what it tells us about the future of green energy in Australia. We're finally back with a normal episode and it's an extra long one because there's just too much dang news! This week on the menu is: Aperitifs: Trans Day of Remembrance, NSW State Elections, VicForests doing mad crimes, and Dutton wins a defo suit (boooo). Read more about forestry crimes here: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-11-24/hi-res-elevation-data-pinpoints-outlaw-logging-in-forests/100626640 Potluck: Big thanks to Jess for this potluck about Powershop. Please send us a potluck! Just record yourself speaking for one minute and send it to contact@auspolsnackpod.com Fashy Australia: The religious discrimination laws have gone through the Lower House. It's unclear what they will mean but it's definitely nothing good. This is also the first of a number of Parliamentary shenanigans this week, because Scott Morrison is kinda losing control of his party. Also discussed in this segment: the ICAC bill, Hanson/Lambie, Bridget Archer, Christensen, the ABC/SBS inquiry, etc. A bunch of new info about Bridget Archer's meeting with the PM has come out since we recorded but don't worry we'll talk about it next week! Kook Watch: The anti-vaxers are out again, they're all catching coronavirus, and some of them are being arrested. We also talk a bit about Da Bill. SPOTW: a literal SP this week. First Nations: Forced vaccination conspiracy is doing the rounds. Thankfully it's total nonsense but what the hell is wrong with these conspiracy kooks??? Positivity Corner: Fella's bill passes in South Australia, banning the use of spit hoods. C is for Climate Change: Blockade Australia protester Sergeio has been sentenced to 12 months jail, 6 months no parole. Labor manages once again to prove that we can't trust them for anything by giving big-ups to the judge for this conviction. And you'll just have to wait til the end for our Pupdate! On this Episode we meet Ed McManus, CEO of food and grocery delivery giant Deliveroo but unlike many tech CEOs his career started in an unlikely place. Having graduated with a PhD in Biochemistry, Ed went onto to work in executive roles at GSK, became a researcher for Melbourne University and to lead Australia's greenest energy retailer Powershop. In this wide ranging interview Ed shares his incredible career journey, views on climate change, advice on building diverse teams and there's of course a bit of Irish / English banter along the way. One not to miss!
In Episode 69, “Comfort in Change”, Blenheim Partners’ Gregory Robinson speaks to Ed McManus, Chief Executive Officer of Deliveroo Australia. Deliveroo Australia has a network of over 8,000 riders and drivers and works with over 14,000 restaurants across the country. Previously, Ed was Chief Executive Officer of Meridian Energy Australia, the owner-operator of the Powershop retail electricity brand and a number of electricity generation assets. He also held a variety of roles with REA Group and GlaxoSmithKline after beginning his career as a medical research scientist. In an open conversation, Ed shares with us his fascinating story, one fuelled by curiosity, that has seen him work and lead across different industries. We hear of the COVID-19 experience in the food delivery sector, which provided a lifeline to restaurants all over, and the opportunities ahead. Eager for challenges and comfortable in change, Ed brings to light the real reform required to inspire confidence amidst ambiguity, from small businesses doing it tough to the world as a whole for generations to come.

In Episode 8 of this new podcast series, BrandHook CEO, Pip Stocks, talks with Meridian Energy Australia and Powershop Australia CEO, Ed McManus, about the importance of creating easy and quick experiences for customers - and being honest about what you can truly deliver as a brand. Ed became the CEO of Powershop Australia and Meridian Energy Australia in January 2016. Beginning his career as a medical research scientist after completing a PhD in Biochemistry, he spent several years working for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies, GlaxoSmithKline. This was followed by a move into the media industry, working for realestate.com.au in roles across sales and marketing, operations, and pricing strategy. Ed then made the decision to do something that would positively impact the future of his children’s lives and sought out an opportunity in the renewable energy space. This led to his leap to Powershop, ranked by Greenpeace as Australia’s greenest energy company (2014 & 2015). Powershop gives customers transparency and control over their energy and now powers more than 100,000 households and businesses from across Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. Meridian Energy Australia owns and operates the Mt Mercer wind farm in Victoria and the Mt Millar wind farm in South Australia, and is part of Meridian, the largest 100% renewable energy company in Australasia.
