What does the lens of sex work and sexuality tell us about the history of state socialism in Central and Eastern Europe? In this episode, Priska Komaromi (Humboldt University) discusses tourism aimed at Westerners that developed in socialist Hungary from the 1960s onwards, often marketed in a sexualized way. She tells Jelena Đureinović (RECET) about the interactions between Western tourists and Hungarian women, the perceptions of them in Hungarian society, and the discourses about race, civilisation, and Europeanness that permeated these relations. Priska Komaromi is a PhD candidate at Humboldt University in Berlin. Her research examines the history of gender, sex work and sexuality in Central Eastern Europe during the state socialist period, focusing particularly on Hungary.
QUESTIONS: 1. It is hard to believer Eva was born in Mauthhausen; hard to understand how her Mom's pregnancy was able to come to the point of delivery? 2. Does Eva's journey in life, compare to anything in your life? Does her narrative compel you to consider your own life? How? ______________________________________________________________________________ Welcome to The Avrum Rosensweig Show. Every so often, we encounter a storyteller whose work does more than inform — it bears witness. It reaches into the deepest places of human experience and returns with something rare: truth shaped by courage, memory, and extraordinary lives. My guest on this show is Wendy Holden — an internationally acclaimed author of more than 47 books, many of them bestsellers. For nearly two decades as a journalist, and throughout her writing career, she has devoted herself to stories that live at the very edge of human experience — where history presses hardest, and where the human spirit reveals itself most clearly. But today's conversation goes beyond the page. We are also joined, in presence and in spirit, by Eva Clarke — one of the most extraordinary living links to one of history's darkest chapters. Eva is one of the babies born out of the unimaginable reality captured in Born Survivors — the true story of three young mothers, Priska, Rachel, and Anka, who defied death in Nazi concentration camps to bring life into the world. Eva's mother, Anka Bergman, was one of those women. In places designed for annihilation — in camps such as Auschwitz concentration camp and Mauthausen concentration camp — Anka made a decision that defies comprehension: she chose life. Pregnant, starving, and under constant threat — even from figures like Josef Mengele — she hid her pregnancy, endured forced labor, and carried her child forward day by day. An act not only of survival — but of resistance. And then, at the very edge of liberation, Eva was born — on April 29, 1945 — at the gates of Mauthausen. Her mother weighed less than 35 kilograms. The machinery of death was collapsing. And yet, life emerged. Today's conversation is not only about history. It is about memory. It is about moral courage. And it is about the fragile, unbreakable thread that connects one human life to another across generations. As Friedrich Nietzsche wrote — words later carried forward by Viktor Frankl — “Those who have a ‘why' to live can bear almost any ‘how.'” Today, we explore the story, the storyteller, and the living legacy of both. Welcome to the show. ——

This week we talk to therapist, author, and podcaster, Janice Selbie. Scott and Priska saw an ad for the Shameless Sexuality conference and knew they had to talk to Janice about her story in which she went from the most conservative fundamentalist world to a sex-positive, religion-free life. The Pentecostal life wasn't restrictive enough for Janice, so she joined a local group of Mennonites where she did her best to fit in but was never fully accepted by the women there. Now, after an eventful deconstruction phase, Janice has created the Divorcing Religion organization (with a podcast Scott was a guest on) as well as the aforementioned Shameless Sexuality conference. Janice is also the author of Divorcing Religion: A Memoir and Survival Handbook. We're about 25 years late to this and about 7 years past Japanese American Joshua Harris denouncing his shitty book, but here we are. After Scott's Substack post about Harris had 4x as many reads as he has subscribers, we figured we should take a look back at why today's Christians are so damaged. A big part of it is purity culture. Scott never read the book, having slammed it shut after the first page, but poor Priska grew up in the height of the purity movement. And she has some feelings and thoughts. CW- We don't pull any punches. This was one of the worst things we've ever read (Scott read it for this episode). The damage it did, the shit writing, and the lack of any cohesive arguments really just made us angry. So buckle up. This one goes to 11. If you grew up in purity culture, you were taught that things like sex, alcohol, and porn were evil portals to demon possession, and you would become addicted to these kinds of vices. Of course people can become addicted to things, but purity culture lied to us. For most christians, there is no such thing as balanced living with people making choices and decisions about what they want to do or consume. Scott and Priska talk about their own stories and break down some of the falsehoods taught in purity culture that make people afraid to simply live their lives. Even worse, it teaches people to not trust their own instincts and abilities to assess risk. Plus, a clip from Content Warning 2024 about pornography and it's supposed addictive nature, featuring Erica Smith, Tori Williams Douglass, Transvangelica, Wyld Violet, and Cortland Coffey. Breaking up is hard to do. It's even harder to do in Purity Culture if you've experienced any degree of physical intimacy with your partner. This leads people to remain in unhealthy and even abusive relationships because of deeply programmed guilt and shame. Esther Cho is a singer/songwriter and dear friend of Priska. She was gracious enough to enter the Horny Chapel and talk about a past relationship that lasted longer than it should have because of purity culture. Priska and Scott get spicy...well, as spicy as possible within the confines of purity culture...as they talk about their sexual awakenings. Even inside purity culture, curiosity and desire got stimulated, giving them a glimpse into sexual possibilities. From pop culture, movies, music, to their friends, sex and sexuality was on their minds, whether they wanted it to be or not. And as embarrassing or cringey as some of the stories are, Priska and Scott have learned to be gentle with their former selves as they navigated their way out. Hell, they're still navigating. In this second episode, we're still introducing ourselves, and we compare our experiences as Asian Americans from different generations and in different kinds of churches. But there are still incredible similarities between our experiences...bad ones, mostly. Scott's experiences as a Gen X-er in the 80's was less intense than Priska's Millenial experiences in the 90's, but both were rife with guilt, shame, and racism. And sexism, of course. We basically tie it all together in this episode: race, gender, purity, and a struggle to find ourselves inside the christian world. We round up the episode with some observations about some AAPI christian churches, good and bad. This is the article Scott mentions about Korean Churches dealing with domestic violence. When you are the son of a big-time Korean pastor who suffers from narcissism and rage, christianity and life are filled with trauma and despair. But Abraham Kim found music and drums early on to help him deal with life, drumming his response to violence at home and oppression in the church. And he found his way out with the help of Talbot (Biola) and found footing in a full, beautiful life with his life partner, Priska, who you heard in Season 3. It's the Season 4 Finale of Two Horny Goats! In this sweet finale episode, Roxy and Priska share three lessons they've learned over the past year. (Warning: things get very sappy and existential, we're pretty much Two Crying Goats by the end of the episode). Share three lessons you've learned with us this year, you can email them to us at hello@twohornygoats.com. Thank you to our lovely Goatees for our best season yet. We love you and we'll see you next year!
So, you messed up at work. How do you move forward? This week we're talking about how to handle your first big mistake in a new job. We'll learn how to own what happened, regain trust, and move forward. For radio journalist Priska Neely, making a mistake in a news report or broadcast can be a very public experience. She leads a team of reporters at NPR's Gulf States Newsroom, and it's her job to guide her team through all of their mistakes – big and small. Priska helps host Elainy Mata understand why mistakes happen at work – and offers her perspective as a manager on what your boss might be thinking when it happens. Plus, she takes listener questions about workplace blunders. Have a career question? Let us know at NewHere@HBR.org. Key topics include: managing up, communication, difficult conversations, credibility, careers. More Reading:· So, You Dropped the Ball. How Do You Get Your Credibility Back? Both Roxy and Priska tend to approach finances with a generous dose of anxiety, shame, and doom. Over the past month, they've decided to dig into their fear of money by recording weekly voice journals, in which they reflect on why talking about money makes them squirm, what their current financial stressors are, and what influences solidified their understanding of money. We promise you won't learn a thing about the fundamentals of finance, but you might walk away examining why you approach money the way you do. Have thoughts or questions for us? This week, Priska sits down with her husband, Abraham Kim, to talk about his mental health journey. They begin by delving into the effects of generational trauma, evidenced by the physical and emotional abuse endured in his childhood. They talk about Abe's adolescence and adulthood spent in a conservative Korean church, where seeking any mental health support outside of relying on the divine was eschewed. They dig into Abe's work as a Spiritual Director, where he would sit with church leaders as they attempted to deepen their relationship with both self and the divine. In what might be the most intimate interview in Two Horny Goats history, Roxy sits down with her partner Jah to discuss his work as a Sex Therapist. They delve into his background and his approach to working with his patients. The interview also gives a beautiful insight into Roxy and Jah's relationship. This is the first of two episodes we're calling Mental Health Baes because both Roxy and Priska's partners work in the mental health space. Have thoughts or questions on today's episode? The topic that continues to be taboo no matter how much time passes: FINANCES. We're getting sweaty just thinking about it. BUT, we'd like to push against our own discomfort. Over the next few weeks, Roxy and Priska will capture voice notes to give Goatees an intimate look into how they manage (and mismanage) their money. If you have stories about struggling with debt or are unsure about how to manage your finances, send a voice note to hello@twohornygoats.com. We'd love to include your story in the episode, with your permission.
This week Roxy and Priska talk about their philosophies behind putting together the spaces they live in. A lot of how we think about our homes has to do with what we experienced growing up—some people had very chaotic homes and seek order in adulthood, others may have lived in overly rigid spaces and prioritize calm and ease. We'd love to hear more about the space you live in and how you go about decorating, establishing systems, and creating vibe. Email pictures and stories to hello@tworhornygoats.com! (Also, don't let anyone #DJC your space! Dictate. Judge. or Criticize. You do you boo boo.)
This week Roxy and Priska chat about the ever-constant journey of learning to be a better ally to our friends in marginalized group, in this episode, namely queer folx. We talk about what to do when you have access to groups that still harbor homophobic sentiments and explore how to confront the issue in a compassionate but firm way. Allyship will never be perfect but we can continue to meditate on ways we can be an active ally vs. a passive one. And keep ourselves accountable for what' we've yet to unlearn. About 11 years ago, I went to a Tuesday Night Cafe and saw a young woman in her early 20's perform there for the first time. Priska's voice and playing floored us as she performed her original songs, and she immediately became part of our community as an incredible singer/songwriter and all-around amazing human. As I got to know her, I discovered that she was in the process of deconstructing her faith, and we bonded over our shared love of music and our leaving christian faith. From trauma experienced as a young woman worship leader to navigating family dynamics with her still-christian family, Priska has experienced the full range of life in deconstruction. This is a special episode that features 5 songs from Priska's 2018 EP, State Change, which you can buy on itunes. She is working on a new EP that will be out soon. As Minji has created this space and inadvertently shared a lot about herself over the course of First Of All's 180+ episodes, she's changed quite a bit. Grown on a good day, unraveled on a bad one. And one thing that she has intentionally confronted in 2023 is to not only make space for others but how take it up herself. It's a Tuesday night. I'm teaching my Improv class and ask the students to tell me one reason why they came. “I want to work on character voices tonight,” says one person. A few others in the room are here for that too. “I want to work on being more physical tonight,” says another student who also has others echoing the same sentiment. Then a third person pipes up with, “I want to escape.” It's so silent you can hear a pin drop. He goes on to say, “I've gotten some really tough news today and just want to leave the outside world behind. I just want to play. I just want to laugh.” And so I tell him, “You're in the right place. You have 100% permission to play.” Sometimes, we just need a change in our story. We need to escape in order to create a different chapter or trajectory, and sometimes that results in something incredibly delicious (even beyond our wildest dreams). Singer and songwriter Priska, my special guest today, has used music to not only change her story but also the lives of so many. In this episode of the Storytelling School Podcast, she talks about the power of positive internal dialogue, why surface appearances don't always tell the real story, storytelling through song as a sensitive person, and the transformative power of stories. She also answers questions like: How can a traumatic experience actually open up your curiosity about yourself and the world and the stories you create from it? What needs to happen to make the resolution of a story worth it? And how important is it for people to hear diverse voices tell their stories? What you will learn in this episode: How isolation can have an effect on your ability to create stories How music can help you redefine your internal story Why the world needs to know the stories of your heritage Who is Priska? Priska is a Taiwanese-American singer and songwriter from Los Angeles, California who, despite her small stature, will draw you in with her big voice and intimate lyrics. She has performed and competed in various international showcases and singing competitions. In 2018, she released her debut EP State Change which features soaring vocals, lush instrumentation, and cinematic lyrics. A lifelong lover of feeling out songs with her heart, Priska will take you on an emotional journey that involves heartache, loss, and learning to carve your own path. In August of 2020, she started the podcast Two Horny Goats with director and friend Roxy Shih, where the two chat about food, sexuality, and the damaging effects of Asian-American stereotypes. What's it like nurturing and maintaining a romantic relationship from afar? This week we're continuing our LDR series with a solo episode from Priska. Priska and her husband, Abe, are spending the next year in different cities as he travels for work and she remains at home. She gives Goatees a front row seat into their relationship—the heartbreak, arguments, and loneliness faced—through audio diaries captured during the first leg of their time apart. Have thoughts or questions about this episode? Email us at hello@twohornygoats.com
We're kicking off a series of solo episodes about Long Distance Relationships: for Priska it's adjusting to Abe being on the road, for Roxy it's wrestling with the concept of home when your family lives overseas. These solo episodes will come out in the next two weeks. Until then, enjoy this intro to the series! As always, we love hearing from you, if you have thoughts or questions, email us at hello@twohornygoats.com.
This week Roxy and Priska tackle a tricky topic: what can masculinity looks like in 2023. We talk about the things men are deprived of under the patriarchy, namely the permission to share and express their emotions, to be soft with each other, and so much more. We want to find a way to connect in deeper dialogue so we can learn how to be better allies for each other and work together to dismantle the patriarchy. To all the men who listen to us, please write in and let us know your thoughts on this topic to hello@twohornygoats.com. We want to hear it all: the highs, lows, joys, and pain points.
This week Roxy & Priska chat about their inner voices: when they recall first hearing it and how it has affected their lives. They're surprised to learn that they had polar opposite experiences in their youth — Roxy all but ignored her inner voice while Priska was ruled by an extremely critical one. Now in adulthood, they're both learning to be led and nourished by a more compassionate, wise inner voice. What does your inner voice sound like? How has it changed over the years? We'd love to hear from you! Email us at hello@towhornygoats.com
We couldn't stay away from you for long, lovely Goatees! We miss you so much and here's a catch up episode just for you. This week Roxy shares about her time directing two episodes of The Haunted Museum in Toronto and Priska talks about tagging along on tour with singer/songwriter, Surrija. We also have a lovely voice note from our dear listener, Shelbee. Share your thoughts on the episode at hello@twohornygoats.com. Have a horny Halloween, we'll see you in January for the kick-off of season 4!

From the days of Marilyn to The Beatles to Michael Jackson, Kim K & Logan Paul, it's safe to say that celebrity culture has evolved and transformed in its way into becoming an everyday part of our modern life. Now celebrity status includes "everyday" content creators or influencers who make funny skits from their respective glass rectangles, or even say.. podcast hosts. (Btw, we're self-aware here at FOA to know we are not celebrity status but do influence in our own way to our beloved brilliant audience, thank you love you) In this episode, Minji brings two of her dearest friends and fellow content creators Kevyn Fong (TikTok/IG's level4alpha) and Priska (singer/songwriter/co-host of Two Horny Goats Podcast) to dive into how our collective obsession/resentment/addiction/admiration/disgust with celebrities and influencers exists nowadays and how they attempt to navigate it all. Coming from a variety of backgrounds working in the entertainment industry from being talent and being behind the scenes watching how the sausage is made (and maybe making some themselves), they share their various insights on the fun and danger of it all. One example they dive into is the slap heard around the world by Will Smith at the Oscars, which they happened to be together to witness at the same time with very different reactions. Come tune in to hear them break it all down, wonder about our future, take responsibility for their relationships with the culture itself, and tips on how to maintain self-awareness and a healthy mental hygiene.
