On today's episode of the podcast I'm joined by guest Danielle Ryan, a content creator and YouTuber, to discuss what MRR is (and no, we're not talking about monthly recurring revenue this time). MRR stands for Master Resale Rights and refers to a product, typically a digital download or a course, that someone creates and assigns MRR to do that anyone who buys it has the right to resell it to their own audience. One of the original MRR courses was "The Digital Roadmap," a lengthy course priced at $497 USD and the premise was to teach you how to leverage digital marketing to sell digital products in your business. When talking about MRR we should also talk about PLR, Private Label Rights, which is essentially white labeling. With MRR you don't have to change or rebrand anything, you can just resell it. When reselling an MRR product, the original creator does not receive commission, so they really need to capitalize on being first to market in order to maximize their profit on the MRR products. What ended up happening with this digital marketing course is that instead of people learning from the content, often people buy it, position themselves as the expert and then resell it without learning the skills to back up their claims. How can you coach someone on something you've never done yourself or previously helped someone achieve? Eventually, the reselling of an MRR product will come to an end with someone not making their investment back. This begs the question from people, Is MRR a pyramid scheme? From the traditional definition of participating in sales, MRR is not a pyramid scheme because the people at the top are not benefiting from the people at the bottom, but Danielle would argue it's very pyramid shaped because it gets saturated and harder for the people on the bottom to sell it. This has begun to pose a problem for some course creators, where people are buying their course and reselling it because they think it has MRR when it doesn't. To protect yourself and your digital products from resale, you'll want to add a paragraph to your contract and terms of agreement when buying your course that it does not grant them Master Resale Rights. This contract clause is available inside our Contract Club and it provides extra protection since they can't sell your product anyway since you didn't grant them copyright. Have you heard PLR before? It stands for Private Label Rights. It's a permission or license that a creator can give to their work. Basically, it means that you can take their work (a digital course, a video, a book, an eBook, software, plugins, pdf file, etc…) and sell it or give it to others and keep any profit. What is PLR site? It stands to reason that there would be a site that authors can publish their work and you can copy it for your own use. There are two main types of affiliate selling. The first is if you become an affiliate for somebody else. You promote the product or service or refer it to others, and if one of the people you refer it to buys the product because of your referral, the product owner gives you a commission. Marketing online can be rocky ground. One wrong remark misread as annoying or distasteful, has the potential to discredit your business and your name. But so many business owners continually “copy and paste” their pitches on social media. There is a much better way to gain attention and reach buyers authentically. Instead of getting caught in the trap of assumption, and running the risk of insulting your target market, start selling authentically. Have you noticed the new trend of “before and after” or “buy one get one free” gimmicks that have been on the rise over the last couple of years? There’s a good chance you have posted at least one. It’s ok. But it’s time to stop it. We hate to break it to you, but there’s a reason that no one likes or comments on those posts. The fact is, no one cares. Those posts have no real influence or impact so ever, and there is little to no return on investment. They are buried in the Facebook graveyard along with all your hard efforts in pulling together the perfect material. Quit wasting your time by assuming who needs your product and start investing your energy researching who actually wants it. “How do you talk about your product without being like everybody else? Make your offer interesting.” - Brooke Elder (8:50)   As a multi-level marketer, the object is to stand out from all the others who sell the same products. This is common sense but can feel so difficult at times. How do we do it? Think outside the box. Spice up your packaging with additional products and goodies. For example, if your product is a scented candle consider including a free car freshener in packaging. Or, if your product is a supplement, consider pairing with a free meal plan. Everyone likes a free add-on! Another potential way to augment your product is to start taking advantage of PLR. Private Label Rights is one of the most overlooked options in online marketing. After purchasing rights, you gain access to a collection of incredible resources including Ebooks, graphics, and templates that relate to your product. PLR was created to help business owners like you save time and generate income quickly. While this has been such a valuable resource for some business owners, it is important to do adequate research to make sure it is a good fit before investing. Market research is your new best friend. Collect data through market research before actually posting, pitching or making any new big moves. Remember, you want to stop assuming and start attracting the right people for your product. Begin with a simple question on Facebook asking if there is any interest for your uniquely packaged product or idea. Be sure to ask specific open-ended questions and read feedback intentionally to gain information. Don’t use this as an opportunity to pounce on anyone! The sales will come. The focus of market research is to create a discussion for positive interaction. It may even be helpful to begin with the statement “I am doing market research.” Then, ask others to participate with the question “What is the hardest thing about…” segueing into whatever problem your product or business solves. The results will be insightful in recognizing potential buyers and assessing whether or not your original idea is workable. “Do the research. Figure out what works… instead of putting ad spend behind your idea to ‘just see.’ ‘Just see’ marketing never works.”  - Brooke Elder (19:42) Large corporations like McDonald's take an idea, go to the drawing boards and spend millions of dollars investing in market research. They wait for positive results from the research before investing millions more into product development. While they pour exorbitant amounts of money into products that may not even work, we are teaching you how to do all these steps for free! Focus on one product or idea, and find out if it is desired by your target market. Then, you can be confident to move ahead with marketing, knowing you have taken the necessary steps to stand out from others in your field. While others will be selling the same product, and may have put in their own energy doing strong market research, they will be approaching from a different avenue. There is no need to panic. The beauty in online marketing is there is always a new angle. This week in your business start small with some market research. Ask your audience if they would be interested in something you have to offer. Put a new spin on the product and package you sell. Remember, results require elbow grease and effort. I love PLR. That stands for Private Label Rights. And it means that someone else has written an article, essay or report, and they are selling you the rights to use it - however you wish. So you can put your name as the author, edit the essay and have your content written in no time flat. Honestly the PLR stuff out there used to be pretty bad. But over the last couple of years it has improved tremendously and frankly it would be impractical if you did not investigate this for yourself. Step 1: Find Suitable PLR First, you need to find PLR content in your niche. If you don't already have a source, then search for your niche topic alongside search terms like PLR, PLR articles, PLR ebooks, PLR content or private label rights content. Step 2: Decide How You'll Use the Content Next, you need to decide what you want to do with the content. Your options include: Using the content to create a multi-part autoresponder series. Step 3: Rewrite the Content to Suit Your Needs Finally, you need to rewrite the PLR content or at least part of it to make it unique and also to make it suitable for your specific purpose and audience.   Transform the content as needed.
