As a child I spent countless hours glued in front of the television watching videos on MTV, but when we finally got BET in '84 I was introduced to a crew of Smooth Operators that would have a long-lasting effect on me and legions of others. Appearing in constant rotation was one of the most aesthetically pleasing acts, unbound by genre, that continue to confound music lovers to this day. Was Sade Folk, Soul, Jazz, RnB, a combination of all of the above or none of them at all? It never mattered as long as they continued to provide their mysterious trademark sound. 6 albums and 4 Grammy's later, they're still one of my favorite bands and a constant source of inspiration for up and comers. Pearls is a testament to the countless number of acts, regardless of genre, that have been touched by Sade. Their remakes or remixes is their homage to a sound that can not be encapsulated but forever enjoyed. Alles beim Alten. Die alten Muffelköppe Tobi von www.appgemeinde.de und Joachim von www.stromstock.de haben gewohnt schlechte Laune und viel zu viel Freizeit. Los geht das stundenlange Appgeläster – diesmal auf Joachims Seite mit extra viel Lüftergeräuschen. Ist halt schwer, dass Mikro korrekt einzustecken. Joachim verbreitet sich eingehend über Limbo das auf iOS wenig von seinem Charme eingebüßt hat und an dem die Jahre recht spurlos vorübergezogen sind. Weniger erbaut ist Tobi über Smooth Operators. Vor allem, weil die Simulation nicht den höchstgeschätzten Titeln von Kairosoft das Wasser reichen kann und weil Tobi schwer von seiner täglichen Arbeit in Callcenter traumatisiert ist. Diese negative Stimmung saugt Joachim gerne auf und redet sich über Cover Orange 2 HD und Wo ist mein Micky XL? in Rage. Beide Titel sind eher Level-Packs der Vorgänger und bringen zu wenig, um als vollwertige Fortsetzungen durchgehen zu können. Im Moment größter Verärgerung meldet sich Lieblingshörer Torben zu Wort. Der hat in seinem Bezugsbetreuer Mario einen neuen besten Freund gefunden und eh’ keinen Bock mehr auf iOS und Apps. Tschüss Torben! Um aus seiner grauen Welt zu flüchten wird Tobi Landwirt. In der Brettspielumsetzung Agricola kann er binnen 14 Spielzügen nach Herzenslust Kartoffeln pflanzen und seinen Samen verspritzen. Bei Colin McRae Rally indes spritzt nur der Matsch. Joachim fällt dennoch kein besserer Rally-Titel für iOS ein. In analytischer Zweisamkeit kommen die beiden Experten überein, dass EA mit seinem Freemium Racer Real Racing 3 große Teile des Markt-Sumpf trocken gelegt hat. Tobi wird wehmütig und heult über das nahende iOS 7. Nur das seinem kindlichen Intellekt entsprechende Toca Builders weiß ihm wieder Lebensfreude zu bescheren. Der Stromstock-Mann hat indes einen nordischen Kollegen eingeworben, der in feinster skandinavischer Zuge Hero of Many bespricht. Man schließt in trauter Übereinkunft, dass es sich bei Greedy Dwarf um ein spielenswertes kleines iOS-Ding handelt, dass jeder mal zocken sollte. An interview with ultra-distance runner Diane Van Deren It's been my pleasure to interview some of the best endurance athletes in world. I've spoken to high altitude climbers like Conrad Anker and Ed Viesturs, extreme skiers like Scott Schimdt and ultra marathon runners like Tim Twietmeyer and Dean Karnazes. These men are incredibly tough individuals.  And with humility and grace all have made their mark on the world by pushing their bodies past the breaking point to achieve amazing feats of strength against incredible odds. But I have to tell you that one of the most inspiring stories I've ever heard is that of a woman named Diane Van Deren. Diane is consistently among the top finishers in some of the most rugged and challenging long distance trail running events in the world. She most recently completed the Yukon Arctic Ultra, a 430 mile unsupported race in Alaska along the dogsled route of the Iditarod. As she ran in temperatures 40 degrees below zero, Diane hauled over  50 pounds of food and equipment behind her in a sled. But what's more impressive to me is that this wife and mother of three accomplished this and most of her career highlights after a long and painful battle with epilepsy. This 2007 interview with Diane Van Deren first ran on the outdoor industry podcast SNEWS-Live. Two years later Diane is still going strong and is now traveling the country on a speaking tour. In advance of her appearance here in Madison, I'm rerunning our conversation to share with you her amazing journey.
