Our latest episode features an interview with Natalie Snee, co-founder of Daedalus, a creative advertising agency. They work with ambitious business owners to advertise, strategise, and promote their business to the right customers. Natalie has achieved the fine balance of starting a business with her partner Jack, while also caring for her sick young child. We hear about how she juggles the priorities between business and family, and the boundaries she has introduced, given she works from home. As always, we talked awards, something Natalie has not always been an advocate of. However, she was taken with the approach of the Best Businesswomen Awards. Therefore, she applied, and, as a result, has been shortlisted for Best Businesswoman in Marketing & PR 2025. She went on to explain what has deterred her from entering awards previously, and why she dislikes voting to select a winner. Given her business is founded on branding and marketing, we discuss the rise of AI and the impact it is having. Nevertheless, Natalie is not afraid of it, in fact her business uses AI every day. Furthermore, she is confident that AI cannot replace human creativity and that it should be used as a tool just like any other. As a branding expert, Natalie explains why using a professional to hone your brand is so important. As an illustration, she told us about the work Daedalus did for Golden Bear coffee, a luxury coffee brand. Needless to say, it also led to a coffee addiction! This is an important episode for those thinking about entering awards but not sure there's much point. Natalie has taken the plunge and reaped the rewards. It's also quite inspirational for working Mums who are struggling to deal with multiple responsibilities. {1:26} Natalie's journey to starting her business. {4:30} Where the name Daedalus comes from. {5:45} Are awards attainable for a small creative agency? {7:51} Taking time to reflect through the application process. {8:13} Natalie's thoughts on voting in awards. {9:38} Why she didn't enter awards before the BBWAs this year. {10:02} The importance of customer service to Daedalus. {11:40} Why professional branding is essential to any business. {12:30} Typical branding clients. {13:36} Where Daedalus gets leads from. {15:54} The effect of AI and platforms like Canva on marketing. {17:40} How Natalie uses AI. {18:39} Award entries written with AI. {19:20} How AI is damaging social media. {20:36} Golden Bear Coffee - a project Natalie is proud of. {22:00} Rebranding logos. {25:26} Advice for juggling work & family while working from home. In the quiet coastal town of Sligo, Ireland, a chilling darkness unfolded over just 48 hours in April 2022. Two kind, well-liked men — Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee — were brutally murdered in their own homes. What connected them? They were both openly gay, both targeted through dating apps, and both victims of a twisted and calculated predator. In this episode of Seeing Red, we explore the horrifying details of these hate-fuelled killings, the community left shattered in their wake, and the manhunt that revealed a disturbing pattern of violence and deception. This case sparked outrage across Ireland and reignited conversations about homophobia, online safety, and how society protects — or fails — its most vulnerable. Hint: it has to do with recognizing “diverse digital literacies.” When should you bring in a creative technologist? Why should you aim for the strong verbs? What is “sneaky attract mode”? Are touch tables a trend that will never die?Patrick Snee (Creative Technologist) joins Jonathan Alger (Managing Partner, C&G Partners) to reveal “5 Secrets of Digital Experience Design”. Along the way: tessellation, thinking in three dimensions, and a return to agar art!Talking Points: 1. Think in 3 Dimensions 2. Assume Diverse Digital Literacies 3. Identify the (Strong) Verb 4. Kinnt Ju noch den „7. Sinn“ ut‘ Fernsehn? Wenn dat de Sennung noch geeven wurr, denn harr man dor düsse Week to heuern kreegen, wo man sick as Autofohrerin oder Autofohrer verholn schull. Also ick meen nu, wo dat op de Strooten glatt vun Snee un Ies is. Mi dücht, de een oder anner kunn so'n Tipps in Momang good bruuken. As ick foffteihn Johr jung weer, dor bün ick bi so'n Luft je noch op't Mofa no mien Lehrsteed hensuust – oder beter geseggt hensliddert. Dat gung. Man hett blots düchti oppassen musst. Op twee Rööd hett man ganz fix markt, wenn man to gau ünnerwegens weer. Denn hett man nömli op de Snut leegen. Loter bün ick in‘ Winter bilütten sogor op Motorrad bi Snee ünnerwegens ween, weil ick noch keen Auto harr. As ick denn overs doch 'n Auto kreeg, dor weer mi klor, an wülke Steeden ick ganz sinnig ween musst heff. Dormols weer man al richti sportli motoriseert, wenn man 70 oder sogor 90 PS ünnern Mors harr. Hüüt finnd man kuum noch 'n Auto, dat weniger as 150 PS hett. Wat schalll man dorvun holn? Tscha, ick wurr empfehln, jüst düsse Hittköpp‘ bi Ies un Snee mol vun Kronprinzenkoog no Büsum fohrn to loten. Oder vun Tellnstedt no Süderheistedt. Overs op'n Mofa. Achteran seht se de winterliche Welt wohrschrschienli mit anner Oogen. Un veellicht entwickelt se denn sogor ganz vun alleent 'n sömten Sinn... In düssen Sinn

Jungedi, wenn ick mi richti besinn‘, denn is dat mehr as teihn Johr her, dat wi al in November Snee harrn. Also ni blots 'n poor witte Kreumels, sünnern richti Snee. Dor wurr dat erst an 28. Dezember witt. 1969 schall dat to Wiehnachen Snee geeven hebben. Dat kann ick overs ni betüügen, dor geev dat mi noch ni. 1997 harrn wi Snee. Overs ni an Heiligobend, sünnern an ersten Wiehnachsdag. Mien Frünnen un ick sünd as Kinners in Winter jümmers op'n Sledden den Klevhang dohlsuust oder den Hambarg in Borg. Wat overs würkli anners weer, is, wat dat dor noch ni so'n Hektik as hüüt geev. In düssen Sinn

Ellen Snee grew up in New Jersey, the oldest of five children in an Irish Catholic family. When she was 12 years old, a priest friend came to the house for dinner and gave everyone a blessing. Young Ellen then announced to her family that she wanted to become a priest when she grew up, for the opportunity to bring peace and joy to others. When her elders enlightened her to the fact that women are not allowed to become priests in the Catholic church, a young rebel was born. Snee decided instead to become a nun, discovering the Sacred Heart community while attending Fordham and going on to teach for Sacred Heart University. One of many reinventions caused her to transition to a career in women's development, and after 18 years she left her convent. In this conversation with CoveyClub founder Lesley Jane Seymour, Snee recounts the reinventions of her life, including launching a Fortune 500 business, moving to California and meeting her husband, helping women claim leadership roles in the business world, and writing her book, “Lead: How Women in Charge Claim their Authority”. Learn Snee's steps for dealing with fear of transition and how to take the leap to follow your passions. FREE GIFT! Don't start your reinvention without downloading CoveyClub's starter guide called “31 Badass Tips for Launching Your Reinvention Without Fear!” Bio: Ellen Snee has been at the forefront of women's leadership for more than 25 years. Dr. Snee brings strategy, research and executive experience to global companies and their top female talent. Her original research at Harvard University on women's experience in roles of authority formed the foundation of her consulting and coaching work with Fortune 500 companies such as Cisco, Goodyear, Marriott, Pfizer and Schwab. Later, as the Global VP of Leadership Development at VMware, she launched the company's groundbreaking business initiative, VMwomen, designed to attract, develop, advance and retain talented women. Her new book Lead: How Women in Charge Claim Their Authority makes her wisdom and experience accessible to all women seeking to accelerate their careers. Dr. Snee lives in the San Francisco Bay Area where she continues to coach and advise women leaders and executives worldwide, and frequently speaks to companies and conferences. Ellen Snee has worked at the forefront of women's leadership development for more than 25 years. But for the first 18 of those years, the front line of leadership wasn't an Ivy League MBA program or a high-end consulting firm: It was an international order of Catholic nuns.During her time in the order, Ellen was surrounded by smart, educated, committed, and fun women who held roles of authority that were uncommon for women in the 1970s. She gained a number of essential — and, happily, transferable — skills: How to discern a call or deep desire, how to work collaboratively with other women, and how to be a savvy operator within male hierarchies. This experience laid the foundation for Ellen's guiding passion: to become an expert in women's leadership development and to change the world one woman at a time. Ellen left the convent while still in graduate school, receiving her EdD in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard University in 1994. She turned the conceptual frameworks from her dissertation on women in roles of authority into the launch of a successful consulting firm, Fine Line Consulting. Before long, she arrived in the corporate sector running leadership and coaching programs for executive women in Fortune 500 companies such as Pfizer, Schwab, Marriott, Goodyear and many others. For 15 years she provided one-to-one coaching to high potential and executive level women across the country.A move to California in 2001 led to work in Silicon Valley at the major tech companies such as Apple, Cisco, KPG, and Citrix. In 2009 Ellen was hired by global technology company VMware as VP Leadership Development and Organizational Consulting. She went on to lead Global Talent Development and in 2013 launched VMwomen, a business initiative designed to attract, retain, develop, and advance talented women. She has spoken extensively at corporate conferences including the Conference Board, Catalyst, California Governors Association, Marriott, Pfizer, Panasonic, Amgen, as well as Boston College, University of Michigan and Presidio Business Schools. Ellen is a member of the International Women's Forum, an invitation-only organization of global women leaders. She is an advisor to She Can and Rise Up, organizations that empower young women in Africa and Asia to become leaders. She is a global advisor for How Women Lead and a Limited Partner with How Women Invest venture fund. Ellen is the author of Lead: How Women in Charge Claim Their Authority (She Writes Press), in which she shares her wisdom and experience with all talented women seeking to accelerate their careers. Lead differs from other management and leadership books in several important ways. The locus of authority throughout is women's experience within 3 vital perspectives: personal, relational, and systemic. Ellen's Self-Others-Systems model recognizes that women are always in simultaneous relationships with themselves, others, and the systems in which they live and work. All of these relationships overlap and interact dynamically when someone exercises their leadership in a role of authority. Full of insights, examples, and stories, Lead is firmly grounded in psychological research. She has her experiences and illustrated them in such a way as to be both inspiring and instructive to women on their way up. Along the way, Ellen urges women to find and speak with their unique voice and claim their personal power. In 2015 Ellen returned to the work she loves, accelerating the career advancement of talented women through executive coaching. Based in the San Francisco Bay area, she continues to coach and advise women leaders and executives around the world, and to speak at companies, academic institutions and leadership conferences.

I have taken much of my description below from a review by Robert Lopresti. I remember reading this novella when it originally appeared in the October 1970 issue of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine, under the dreadful name of "Manhattan Night's Entertainment." Frederic Dannay was a great editor but a horrific tinkerer with titles. Avram Davidson had one of those staggering imaginations, like John Collier, James Powell, or Terry Pratchett. You just never knew what would pour out of his typewriter. In this case it is the simple story of a young lady from New Jersey and her encounters with a pickpocket, the Mafia, the Nafia, an Albanian Trotskyite who wants to blow up the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Hudson River pirates, and, of course, the Lord High Keeper of the Queen's Bears, who lives in a cave in Central Park. Okay, maybe I lied about it being a simple story. The main character is really the titular Lord, alias Arthur Marmaduke Roderick Lodowicke William Rufus de Powisse-Plunkert, 11th Marques of Grue and Groole in the peerage of England, 22nd Baron Bogle in the Peerage of Scotland, 6th Earl of Ballypatcooge in the Peerage of Ireland, Viscount Penhokey in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, Laird of Muckle Greet, Master of Snee, and Hereditary Lord High Keeper of the Queen's Bears. By now you have probably figured out that Davidson loves words, for their own sake. He also uses them to tell a wonderful story. The Marquess is broke and dishonest, which explains why he lives in a cave, cadging most of his meals from meat his trained falcon steals off grills on the surrounding balconies. He is a sharp fellow and when he spots rope in a store window that could only have been swiped from the British Navy he finds himself confronting the aforementioned river pirates who vehemently deny that they are pirates. You see, Peter Stuyvesant gave the family the right to collect taxes in 1662, just before the Dutch surrendered to the British. For a moment no word broke the reverent silence. Then, slowly, Lord Grue and Groole removed his cap. "And naturally," he said, "your family has never recognized that surrender. Madam, as an unreconstructed Jacobite, I honor them for it, in your person." He gravely bowed. I won't attempt to explain how everyone else fits into this mad mosiac. Just get your hands on the story and read it. Why it hasn't been made into a movie is one of those inexplicable mysteries. It's practically a film right on the page. As atypical as can be, Rushad is a Grammy nominated American cellist, composer, and performer, who has toured extensively in 49 states and 15+ countries. Eggleston is known for inventing words, and for his imaginative world called The Land of Sneth. He went to Berklee College of Music in Boston, and you might know him from Fiddlers 4, Darol Anger's Republic of Strings, or Crooked Still. It takes all sorts to make the world. Everybody's got that odd job every once in a while, but for some of us, those odd jobs are what make work exciting. Just ask Victoria Snee. Over the years she's jumped around to nearly every industry doing one thing or the next. But what you don't find in most industry-hopping folks is actual growth. Which is why Victoria's recent swing into high-class atmosphere as Highland Park Village's Chief Marketing Officer is surprisingly unsurprising. And today on the Mike McGavel Jones Show, Mike's getting into the weeds with Victoria to find out how exactly she got into the job of her dreams, why she's been all around the professional world to get there, and what she learned along the way.
