The growth of the early church was a grass roots effort -- individuals shared their faith story to others, who then passed it along down the line. The Apostle Paul wrote many letters encouraging those missionaries to continue to do so, despite difficult times. His final letter to Timothy is a challenging reminder that the world still needs to hear about Christ, and it's our responsibility to faithfully hand that message to others like a runner passes along a baton. I was raised as a cessationist. That means I was raised to believe that all miracles and revelations and spiritual gifts ENDED when Jesus ASCENDED and the New Testament was finished. Only the APOSTLES were able to access them. This means that when the last apostle died, those special abilities ceased. They were only necessary to validate Jesus and the church to help it get established, and would not be needed after that. Is that true? This study investigates that view, and you might just be surprised what Scripture actually teaches in this area. (By the way, if I was a paid preacher at most any kind of church today, WHATEVER position I took would most probably get me fired. The good news for me is that since you don't pay me you can't fire me. Therefore I am free to just teach what the BIBLE says on this.) El Señor le aseguró entonces, mediante el milagro de la vara convertida en serpiente y de la mano que se volvió leprosa, que con tales señales y prodigios haría temer a los egipcios y al faraón, para que no se atrevieran a hacerle daño. Con estas señales aseguró a Moisés que convencería al rey y a su pueblo de que un Ser mayor que él manifestaba su poder ante ellos. Sin embargo, después de realizar muchos milagros ante el faraón a la vista del pueblo, este no dejaría salir a Israel. Moisés deseaba ser eximido de la laboriosa tarea. Alegó como excusa ser torpe de palabra. Es decir, había estado tanto tiempo lejos de los egipcios, que no tenía un conocimiento tan claro y un uso tan fluido de su lengua como cuando estaba entre ellos. El Señor reprendió a Moisés por su temerosidad, como si el Dios que lo eligió para realizar su gran obra fuera incapaz de capacitarlo para ello, o como si Dios se hubiera equivocado al elegirlo. Y él dijo: ¡Ay, Señor! envía, te ruego, por medio del que debes enviar". Suplicó al Señor que eligiera a una persona más adecuada. La renuencia de Moisés procedía al principio de la humildad, de una modesta desconfianza. Pero después de que Dios prometiera eliminar sus dificultades, y estar con su boca, y enseñarle lo que debía decir, y darle finalmente éxito en su misión, el que siguiera manifestando reticencia desagradaba a Dios. Su renuencia a ejecutar la misión para la que Dios le había conservado la vida, y le había capacitado para realizar, después de que Dios le asegurara su presencia constante, demostraba incredulidad y un desánimo criminal, así como desconfianza en Dios mismo. El Señor lo reprendió por esta desconfianza. Después, el Dios personal y existente de por sí infundió en aquella forma el soplo de vida, y el hombre vino a ser criatura viva e inteligente. Todas las partes del organismo humano fueron puestas en acción. El corazón, las arterias, las venas, la lengua, las manos, los pies, los sentidos, las facultades del espíritu, todo ello empezó a funcionar, y todo quedó sometido a una ley. El hombre fue hecho alma viviente. Por medio de Cristo el Verbo, el Dios personal creó al hombre, y lo dotó de inteligencia y de facultades. Nuestra sustancia no le era oculta cuando fuimos hechos en el misterio; sus ojos vieron nuestra sustancia por imperfecta que fuera, y en su libro todos nuestros miembros estaban anotados, aun cuando ninguno de ellos existiera todavía (El ministerio de curación, pp. 322, 323). Si Dios hubiera deseado que se le representara como morando personalmente en las cosas de la naturaleza, en la flor, el árbol, la brizna de hierba, ¿no habría hablado Cristo de esto a sus discípulos cuando estaba en la tierra? Pero nunca se habló así de Dios en las enseñanzas de Cristo. Cristo y los apóstoles enseñaron claramente la verdad de que existe un Dios personal. Cristo reveló todo lo que de Dios podían soportar los seres humanos pecaminosos sin ser destruidos. Él es el Maestro divino, el Iluminador. Si Dios hubiera considerado que necesitábamos otras revelaciones que las hechas por Cristo y las que hay en la Palabra escrita, las habría dado (Testimonios para la Iglesia, t. 8, p. 278).
