How many ideas for Big Thunder Mountain are simply recycled old ones? In this episode of Distory, we keep chugging along in our Big Thunder Mountain series as we start by saying goodbye to Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland (but not before we learn a few lost concepts in an attempt to save it, some of which we see today in the current Big Thunder). After tearing down Cascade Peak and mentioning where a few of the animals made a new home, we hop over to Walt Disney World to learn about the largest never-built show structure in Disney's history, Thunder Mesa. After some twists and turns on a (boring?) version of a runaway mine train, we roll to a stop as Tony Baxter takes the reins from Marc Davis and sketches the first concepts for the Big Thunder we know it today (well, before it was shelved and then built elsewhere). We take a rabbit trail to Pirates to debate what park wears it best, and Kirk derails Kate's transitions as he recovers from climbing Everest on the Swiss Family Treehouse. Swiss Family Treehouse is an Magic Kingdom opening day attraction, opening with the park on October 1, 1971. 2. The treehouse is based on the 1960 Walt Disney film Swiss Family Robinson. 3.The summit of the treehouse is 6 stories high and guests must climb 116 stairs to reach it! 4. Here on Easy Diz It, We share ideas on staying happy and healthy in the parks. And we have some fun with news games and trivia. This week we discussed among other things, vacationing solo in theme parks. Highly Suspect Headlines (Disney News Game) Disneyland's Adventureland Treehouse re-theme revealed as the Encanto Treehouse This was rumoured for a while as they have been working on it since 2021 Was Swiss Family originally, then re-themed to Tarzan in New theme is inspired by the original Swiss Family Treehouse, but will be based on a new family. Expanded ground level attractions kitchen, dining room, and Fathers art studio, that features sketches of the rooms above Doctor Who coming to Disney+ Beginning in 2023, Disney will begin airing new Doctor Who episodes Tenant is coming back! Small World in Disneyland adds a mobility impaired character Appeared when reopening with holiday overlay "The dolls are participating inclusively alongside their non-disabled peers, which is something we want to see more of, instead of being depicted as limited or incapable because of a disability," Houghton Three tips from a nerd focuses on traveling solo Save money- You can also save money by using the single rider lines instead of buying whatever skip the line product is available. At Disney World, there are only 4 attractions that have single rider: Millennium Falcon, Expedition Everest, Test Track, Rock n Roller coaster. Universal Studios has a ton of single riders. And most other theme parks have them too. Single rider lines are usually best when the ride vehicles seat 4 or 6 to a row. Two by two roller coaster usually aren't that good. Expedition Everest being a huge exception. Avoid hassle- Wait less for food and drink by sitting at the bar. Toothsome's Chocolate Emporium was my latest example. Fantastic restaurant, tough to get a seat. Bar seating was available on a Saturday night! Have more fun- Strike up conversations in line. If you're like me, fun can go either way for this type of thing. Social initiations can be a lot of work and anxiety producing. So here are some things I do. Opening line: Have you been on this yet? If the answer is brief the conversation is over. If the answer is enthusiastic either way, a follow up might be: Did you like it? or Have you heard anything about it? At this point you've done your work for an initiation and the ball is in their court if they want to keep the conversation going. Document the line experience. If you don't want to talk to people, or you are socially drained: Pretend you are a theme park journalist or vlogger. It gives you something to do! At $114 and 5 hours, this tour is somehow pricey but still feels like a good deal! ____________________________________ Support the podcast by purchasing Unofficial Guides through this link: https://amzn.to/3rLVVmy Or booking your travel with Justin Website: easydizit.com Email: easydizitpodcast@gmail.com Instagram: instagram.com/easydizit Facebook: fb.com/JustinwithUTMT

On this week's show, Disneyland pros, David and Ronn dive into several sizzling Disney topics. Exploring the Science and Future of the Reservation System. Maximizing profits is the goal for every business. Disney happens to already be masterful at separating people from their money - add the repeated mentions of their "yield management" strategy and "demand-based pricing" from Bob Chapek and Disney brass - and it appears clear the pricing strategy for both admissions and even attractions may be changing. But to what end? Is the current reservation system performing at an optimal level resulting in Disney maximizing profits? Almost certainly not considering its infancy and recent times. If that is the case, changes are to be expected and it's very reasonable to even expect seemingly radical changes. Could reservations and/or the Magic Key Pass be terminated? Could we see Ticket allotments? Ala carte attraction fees? Variable pricing ala airline seats? Is the 1:00 pm Park Hopper rule here to stay? What celebrities have we run into at the Parks? Where would we love to see a permanent live stream camera at Disneyland?Plus, we remember, celebrate, and honor The Love Bug, The Many Adventure of Winnie the Pooh, Splash, The Old Mill, the Multiplane Camera, The Swiss Family Treehouse, and Man in Space in this week in Disney history. Christy Altomare, the star of "Anastasia," "Mamma Mia," and "Spring Awakening" joins David to share her love of the Disney Theme Parks! Christy has held onto a wonderful photo souvenir book from her first trip to Walt Disney World which she discusses with David--specifically how she was "enthralled and excited and dancing the hip hop" as she visited Mickey Mouse's home, met Goofy (and got his autograph!), and experienced the Swiss Family Treehouse (which she loved). Christy reflects upon how magical it is to visit the Disney Parks, and shares some great insight into why musical theatre fans are also fans of the Mouse. Christy shares how she has always been a Disney kid--from watching the movies and putting on shows for her family, to having Disney Birthdays--as many of the Disney films were released around her birthday in June--which would lead to merchandise and immediately learning all of the songs around her birthday. Now a "young at heart," Christy still holds the magic of Disney close to her heart. She is a big fan of "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and especially the overlay at Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ("I definitely got through The Haunted Mansion as a kid, but I thrived at it as I got older."), and reflects upon her love of Ariel, Pocahontas, and Peter Pan's Flight. Christy shares her visit to the inside of Cinderella Castle while on tour with "Spring Awakening," and how she refers to a certain Pixar movie when teaching acting. As the "Anastasia" film is now owned by Disney, Christy and David discuss what a Fantasyland Dark Ride would look like for this Russian princess--before they play "Once Upon a Disney December" in which David asks trivia based on events in Disney history that took place in December. Some of those names that came through his program are household names:Brad Bird (Directed The Incredibles, Incredibles 2, Ratatouille, Tomorrowland)Don Bluth (The Rescuers, Pete’s Dragon)Tim Burton (The Nightmare before Christmas)Ron Clements (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog)Andreas Deja (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King)Glen Keane (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Tangled)John Lasseter (Toy Story Franchise, Cars Franchise, Pixar)It is because of that training program that he earned the nickname “The Beloved Mentor”Eric Larson retired in February, 1986 after 52 years with Disney -- making him the last of the Nine Old Men to retire. Working under Norm Ferguson he quickly became a star animator.

The stages had audioanimatronic humans and household appliances showing how appliances and electronics advanced about every 20 years from the turn of the century to the "modern" era of the early 1960s. The audience stopped in front of each stage while the characters joked with each other, described life at the time in history, and demonstrated their kitchen. This ride originated at the 1964 New York World's Fair and was installed at Disneyland after the fair closed. In 1974, Carousel of Progress was moved to Florida's Walt Disney World, and the show building was used for America Sings and Innoventions. The PeopleMovera train ride that ran along an elevated trackFirst built in 1961A great way to relax and enjoy a unique view of TomorrowlandClosed in 1995Rocket RodsPeople mover closed in 1995 as part of a Tomorrowland overhaulRepurposed trackDragster-style thrill attraction - more thrilling than PMOverhead view of TLQuick launchSlowed down at every turn - they lost GM sponsor/budget - didn’t build in banked turns on the flat PM trackSpeed up/slow downNot thrilling enough/Too thrillingLong wait timesMechanical issuesInfrastructure wasn’t altered to accommodate the quick/slow - stress on track & vehiclesAfter weeks went down for 3 months to try to fixStill constantly breaking downTrack and structure was breaking down, making it unsafe - cracks, broken concrete - lawsuitClosed again in 2000 to reopen Spring 2001Didn’t reopen - announced permanent closureSad skeleton in the middle of TLVideopolis (1985–1995): A nighttime dance club targeted at young adults. The ride was named after Mike Fink, the "King of the River" who lost the keel boat race. The two 38-foot boats, the Gullywhumper and the Bertha Mae, were the actual props that had been used in making the TV shows a few months earlier. The boats were free-floating and traveled around Tom Sawyer Island Riders would sit on benches either inside the cabin or on the roof of the cabin.1997, the Disneyland Gullywhumper boat began to rock side to side. It capsized, dumping a full boatload of passengers into the Rivers of America, leaving several with minor injuries. The boat was removed from the waters for inspection and neither the Gullywhumper nor the Bertha Mae returned for the next operating season. The Bertha Mae was put up on Disney's eBay Auction Site and was sold for $15,000 to Richard Kraft, and was later featured in a scene from Kraft's documentary Finding Kraftland. It was billed as an unseaworthy craft. In 2003, the Gullywhumper returned to the Rivers of America as a prop and is moored on Tom Sawyer Island, where it is visible from the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, and the Explorer Canoes.Swiss Family Treehouse (1962–1999): Treehouse based on the film Swiss Family Robinson. Rethemed as Tarzan's Treehouse in 1999 and still open under that name.Jolly Trolley (1993–2003): The Jolly Trolley was a Trolley providing transportation from one end of Toontown to the other. Closed due to crowded walkways presenting major safety hazards, meaning the trolleys could only operate on days with sparse crowds. The Jolly Trolley's track is still present in the main walkway of Toontown, and one car stands stationary in the middle of Toontown. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Join John B. deHaas and I as we take a hike up to the top of Tarzan's Treehouse at Disneyland! Recorded on December 2, 2018. TRANSCRIPT: Welcome to Attraction Checklist. This episode we take a hike to the top of Disneyland’s Tarzan’s Treehouse.  Located in Adventureland, Tarzan’s Treehouse is described on the Disneyland website by saying: Tour the legendary vine-swinger’s jungle home—built in an 80-foot-tall tree—and experience life on the wild side.  There are no height requirements for this attraction but guests must be ambulatory to experience it. Before we visit Tarzan and Jane, here are five fast facts about Tarzan’s treehouse at Disneyland. 1.  Tarzan’s Treehouse used to have much different residents.  Originally opening in November of 1962, this was the Swiss Family Treehouse and it stayed that way until it’s closure on March 8, 1999.  The treehouse was then retimed to the Disney movie Tarzan and reopened on June 23, 1999. 2.  The treehouse grew a little when it was retimed to Tarzan, gaining 10 more feet in the process! 3. The tree has been given the scientific name “Disneyodendron Semperflorens Grandis," which means "large, ever-blooming Disney tree." 4. Subtle nods to the Swiss Family Treehouse are present in Tarzan’s Treehouse, including the Mind Thy Head sign which is still present. 5. Eagle eyed guests will spot a Beauty and the Beast Easter egg in a teapot and chipped tea cup that bear a striking resemblance to Mrs. Potts and Chip. Now let’s swing up to Tarzan’s Treehouse. Joining me today is John B. deHaas and after we walk through we’ll discuss our thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we head to Tarzan’s Treehouse at Disneyland! This week we are still keeping it in the Magic Kingdom. We head on over to the Swiss Family Treehouse which an easily overlooked/passed by attraction. With that said though, I don't blame anyone as it is a walking tour and it is up and down stairs. Who wants to walk up and down stairs when you are already tired from running around the parks? In addition to that, there is nothing spectacular or jaw dropping to see. So enjoy as I do all the walking for you and you can sit back in your big comfy chair and experience this attraction.
