Send us a textPure consciousness is our true nature, though we often mistakenly identify with our body and mind, creating a sense of separation from the world around us.• "Tat Tvam Asi" (You are that) reminds us we are the pure consciousness that exists everywhere• There is not a single place where consciousness is not, meaning there's no place where you are not• Our physical bodies create the illusion of separation, but our true self is unlimited awareness• Understanding our true nature naturally gives rise to compassion and selfless service• Speaking against injustice becomes part of spiritual practice when done from awareness of oneness• Pure consciousness is eternal, present in all states—waking, dreaming, and deep sleep• When we recognize consciousness as the foundation of everything, we live in absolute freedom• Surrender to our true nature happens effortlessly when we understand consciousness alone isWhat's your experience of being in pure awareness? A Guru. The simple, pure form of the soul born to selfless search and service of the "I", The Self that is "Tat Tvam Asi" = "I am that illimitable consciousness". Across the vast swatch of nature, we are surrounded by the bliss of the Guru each and every moment. Each and every part of nature is a Guru, Mother Earth is a humungous Guru, each tree a teacher, each drop of water a devotee saint, every breath of air, a refreshing master. Nature's seed sovereignty is a ruling Guru without whose sacrificial participation we starve to death. Did you know that every vulgar, vile, violent experience is a “Saturnal “ Guru, learning by the lash of the whip. However, arduous and bitter the lessons are these experiences remain our teaching curves. Our perennial Gurus. When first I wrote these words, my lessons from the vicious experience of being targeted by well-organized hate- driven bullies were still maneagable. It is twelve years later and myprivacy and human freedom are still at the mercy of unimagineable intrusions, and violence against my physical beingness and work. Yet, these words of wisdom rise to serve me, to keep me sentient, to remind me that love is inscribed as a cellular memory in each and everyone of us, including the haters and misinformed. And it is this memory that we must lean on to carry us through to the light. When in evolution a human Guru takes birth, their paths are often riddled with sharpness, surrounded by the ignorance of the world, by biases, jealousies of those they serve, marginalization, ridicule and , in many cases, castration by violence and other vile acts against them. In the popular world culture we are continually striving to seek the wisdom of the ancients, but we have to be sufficiently reconciled to our self-worth to be prepared to seek Self-knowledge. We want to learn from the master, the Guru but, for many, because we are so spiritually starved from the loss of self-sovereignty, we continually find ways to undermine the elder, disavow the lessons thrown in our path, oftentimes because we forget that the greatest Guru is the inner Guru. Cub Kuker Supernatural Podcast EP391 I've encountered trouble repeatedly for saying "I Am God." Many people misinterpret my meaning when I say this. Throughout different times, many individuals have made similar claims. However, rather than asserting themselves as the only incarnation of God, they often simply realized a profound truth about themselves and others. Personally, I even believe that this is what Jesus himself was claiming, rather than asserting singular divinity or identifying as the Messiah. Drawing from the wisdom of Eastern mystic scriptures, the teachings of spiritual luminaries like Yogananda and even Jesus himself, and even contemporary concepts like the Matrix theory, we embark on a journey to understand and embrace non-dualism—the realization that we are not separate from the divine, but rather an integral part of it. The following are some beautiful quotes from eastern mystic philosophers, and gurus to help guide us each towards a more non-dualistic lifestyle. Bhagavad Gita: In Chapter 10, Verse 20, Lord Krishna says, "I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings." Upanishads: From the Chandogya Upanishad (6.8.7), "Tat Tvam Asi," which translates to "Thou art That." This implies the identity of the individual self (Atman) with the Ultimate Reality (Brahman), indicating that the individual is God. Yogananda's "Autobiography of a Yogi": Yogananda often emphasized the concept of the divine essence within oneself, stating, "God is within you," suggesting the recognition of the divine presence within each individual. Jesus Christ in the New Testament: In John 10:30, Jesus says, "I and the Father are one." This verse is often interpreted to imply the unity of Jesus with God, suggesting the divinity within oneself. Simulation Theory: Drawing from modern concepts, the idea of being "Player One" in the simulation can be likened to the Eastern concept of realizing one's true nature as God or the divine. Just as in a simulation, where the player realizes their inherent power and control within the game, realizing oneself as God suggests recognizing one's inherent divinity and connection to the Ultimate Reality. Understanding non-dualism (Advaita Vedanta) deeply involves transcending the illusion of separation between oneself and the divine. By integrating these practices and perspectives, one can deepen their understanding of non-dualism and realize the inherent divinity within oneself, transcending the illusion of separation and recognizing the unity of all existence. Note: Always do your own research in regard to any theory. These notes represent my research alone, and not necessarily mainstream theories. ___________________________ Your Guide To The Rabbit-Hole Awaken Your Supernatural Power Become A Member ⤵️ Membership, Merch, Socials: https://www.CubKuker.com/ Support Me With Tips: ⭐️ Stars (FB),

Ramana Maharshi's words: "Atman alone exists and is real. The threefold reality of world, individual soul, and God is, like the illusory appearance of silver in the mother of pearl, an imaginary creation in the Atman. They appear and disappear simultaneously. The Self alone is the world, the “I” and God. All that exists is but the manifestation of the Supreme." Comments by Richard Clarke. Audio from Nome, Tat Tvam Asi.
Maya hopes to clear up the myriad confusion on the subject of the popularized sentiment of "Guru". She restored the original meaning and intent of this sacred Sanskrit word and elaborates on its deep meaning. We have entered a popular trend where we believe throwing out the Guru will solve our problems of seeking knowledge, searching truths, and otherwise understanding the meaning of our own lives. Here is why we're battling with modern societal conditioning about what is a Guru.Indeed, there are many pseudo-gurus, some who boasts magnetic personalities that can swerve naive seekers astray; there are many more who are masters of manipulating modern societal conditioning to their advantage and thereby cultivate massive groups of enthralled followers. And then there is the Guru. The simple, pure form of the soul born to selfless search and service of the "I", The Self that is "Tat Tvam Asi" = "I am that illimitable consciousness". Across the vast swatch of nature, we are surrounded by the bliss of the Guru each and every moment. We want to learn from the master, but, for many, because we are so spiritually starved from the loss of self-sovereignty, we continually find ways to undermine them, disavow their worth, oftentimes because learning lessens of Spirit can be hurtful , and sometimes we simply feel challenged to prove our own worth.Listen In~Support the show (http://paypal.me/wiseearth)
-9th chapter: verses 6, 7, 8-The lecture was given by Swami Tattwamayananda on June 18, 2021.-6th verse: “Just as the mighty, strong wind, that is always moving everywhere, rests in the sky, but does not have the ability to make any modifications to the sky – similarly, all beings rest in Me.”-According to the Upanishadic concept of evolution - from Atman, akasa evolves - from akasa, air evolves - from air, fire evolves - from fire, water evolves - from water, earth evolves - from earth, plants evolve - from plants, different living beings evolve.-A tree is pervaded and sustained by its living liquid. If this liquid dries out, nothing can grow from the tree. Similarly, everything is pervaded and sustained by the Divine Reality.-When a spiritual seeker worships an image, he first invokes and projects the all-pervading divine principle in that image. Over time, with spiritual practices, the inner divinity begins to manifest in his nature, which ultimately helps him to connect with his own divine nature.-Yajnavalkya in a reply to Gargi in Brihadaranyaka Upanishad says that we can use the power of inference to understand this all-pervading divine principle. He says “At the command of that Reality, O Gargi, the sun and moon hold their courses; heaven and earth keep their positions; moments, hours, days and nights, fortnights and months, seasons and years–all follow their paths; rivers issuing from the snowy mountains flow on, some eastward, some westward, others in other directions.”-7th verse: “At the end of a kalpa, all beings go back to My prakriti. At the beginning of the next cycle, manifestation starts again.”-A kalpa is equal to one day and one night in the life of Brahma. An iceberg is not a creation – rather, it is just a projection of water. Similarly, the world is not a creation – rather, it is a projection, and not separate from its causal form. In the day of Brahma, projection starts. In the night, dissolution takes place, and it goes back into its causal form.-Mundaka Upanishad gives three analogies of how creation emerges from Brahman. First, a spider weaves a web using material from its own body. Similarly, Brahman is the origin and dissolution of the universe. To illustrate that Brahman has no purpose behind the creation, the second analogy is provided – plants and trees emerge spontaneously from the Earth, which does not have a purpose. Similarly, Brahman is the essence of creation, with no purpose. To illustrate that Brahman is not an inert entity, the third analogy is provided – in a living, conscious person, hair and nails grow. Similarly, Brahman is the essence of consciousness.-8th verse: “Animating My own prakriti, I project this whole multitude of different beings. Then they exist, but they are helpless and not free.”-So long as we are attached to prakriti, under the influence of the three gunas, we are in a state of helplessness, and we are not free – we are slaves in the hands of our own samskaras. We begin our quest for spiritual freedom when we become aware of this absence of freedom. Buddha started his spiritual quest after becoming aware of the helplessness of all beings against old age, sickness, and death.-When we realize that there is no real freedom at the empirical level, we look for a different, higher form of freedom. Until we realize our true spiritual identity, we are under the control of prakriti.-According to Vedanta, every attempt to solve problems at the empirical level, is only a postponement of the problem. Real answers come when we attain spiritual freedom – we then understand that there is no freedom at the empirical level.-The four mahavakyas are: (1) Tat Tvam Asi, which is an upadesa vakya (2) Prajnanam Brahma, which is a lakshana vakya (3) Ayam Atma Brahma, which is a siddhanta vakya (4) Aham Brahma Asmi, which is an anubhuti vakya. Aham Brahma Asmi is only an approximation of the highest experience of one's identity with Brahman. In the process of teaching Shvetaketu, Uddalaka utters: "Tat tvam Asi" and repeats it eight more times during his instructions.
Swami Sarvapriyananda speaks on the 'Mahavakya' - Tat Tvam Asi (That Thou Art), as part of a class organized by the San Diego Vedanta Monastery.

The third section deals with knowledge of Atman.-Advaitic scholars also treat the three sections as interpretation of the mahavakya: Tat Tvam Asi. First section deals with Tvam. Second section deals with Tat. Third section deals with the unity of jivatma and paramatma. It represents our evolution in understanding of God.-1st verse: “With the mind completely intent on Me, taking refuge in Me, learn from Me and know Me in full, without any doubt”-2nd verse: Lord Krishna explains Jnanam and Vijnanam. Jnanam is the knowledge of God from books. When that knowledge becomes a reality in our life, because of our own real experience (anubhuti), it is called Vijnanam. Then every thought, word and deed become sacred.-In the beginning, there is a line of demarcation between the secular and spiritual. When one progresses, eventually, one reaches a stage where this line is broken, and every secular activity becomes spiritualized. In the beginning, it is “work and worship”. Later it is “work as worship”.-Sri Ramakrishna said: A jnani reasons about the world through neti-neti. To a Vijnani, Brahman alone has become everything, and the world is a mansion of mirth. A jnani is like a person who has just heard of milk. A vijnani is like a person who has drunk the milk, enjoyed it and is nourished by it.-We cannot choose to be a vijnani – it is not a concept. It is not a matter of choice – rather a matter of where we stand right now and how we evolve. We reach vijnanam through spiritual practices and by going through the stage of jnanam.-How does a vijnani live in this world? Even at the highest stage, he falls back to the empirical level and lives like normal people. Whatever he does, it involves a spiritual element. This is seen in great spiritual teachers such as Sri Ramakrishna. Another example is of King Janaka, who lived like a rajarshi.-Rajarshi is a person who has the dual qualities of a king (Rajatvam) and a saint (Rishitvam). As a king, he has great prosperity, dynamism and efficiency. As a saint, he has a calm attitude, can see far into things, and understands the limitations and impermanence of his wealth and powers.-3rd verse: “Among thousands of people, very few strive for a spiritual life. Among those who sincerely strive for spiritual life, very few realize the truth.”-Not many people can think beyond the immediate and empirical. One of the reasons is that most people examine the value of everything by its tangible utility.-This verse is similar to one from Dhammapada, which says: “It is very difficult to get human birth. Among them, very few desire to live like a cultured human being. Among them, very few follow the law of dharma. And among them very few reach enlightenment.”-Human birth is a golden opportunity. Once we realize that there are many others who will reach the stage of human birth only after many life cycles, it should give us renewed confidence and a different perspective on life.-4th verse: “My lower prakriti – Apara prakriti or Kshetram - is eight fold. The first five are the subtle dimensions of the five elements: earth, air, water, fire and space. The remaining three are mind, intellect and egoism.”-According to Sankhya philosophy, from prakriti comes mahatattva, then ahamkara, then mind, senses, and the subtle elements.-5th verse: “My higher prakriti – para prakriti – is the principle of consciousness by which the entire universe is sustained. Everything is made conscious by the presence of this inner, divine spark.”-Creator is present in his creation. If this were not so, it would lead to dualism. In the 4th and 5th verse, Lord Krishna gives a prelude, before discussing in later verses, the unity of existence.-We can easily understand the presence of para-prakriti by the following example. If someone, who does not have a physical problem, suddenly dies, something departs the kshetram. And body/mind, that was otherwise operational, stops working. That something is the Antaryami - the immanent, divine reality.-6th verse: “These two prakritis are the source of all. I am the origin and the dissolution of the universe.”-The higher prakriti is everywhere – in the hero and the villain, in the good and the bad. Electricity is everywhere in the house, and depending on the color of the bulb, it emits light of different color. Similarly, our samskaras are like the glass of the bulb, which determine how this higher prakriti manifests. With spiritual practices, we can make it manifest in its full effulgence.

Talk 73 - Verses 241- 243 In this talk, the famous Mahavakya ‘Tat Twam Asi’ from the Upanishads is explained to us to indicate the identity of Jiva and Brahman as one. Shankaracharya ji brings out this distinction through 4 examples to establish the oneness of the essence of Jiva and Ishwara. Saamapriyaha- One who is fond of Saama Veda . One who is fond of pleasant songs. Chandogya upanishad has the Maha-vakya - Tat Tvam Asi and it is in the Sama Veda. In vibhooti yoga of Bhagavat Geeta Sri Krishna says वेदानां सामवेदोस्मि vēdānāṃ sāmavēdōsmi I am saamaveda among the vedas. ब्रह्मा भवं तदास्तौषीद्रथंतरमुदीरयन् ज्येष्ठसाम्ना च देवेशं जगौ नारायण : प्रभु : brahmā bhavaṃ tadāstauṣīdrathaṃtaramudīrayan jyēṣṭhasāmnā ca dēvēṡaṃ jagau nārāyaṇa : prabhuh In the Upamanyu upākhyāna of mahābhārata , it is described that when the lord appeared before upamanyu, Lord Brahma praised and pleased Shiva by singing the praises from the Rathantara Saama and Lord Nārāyana sung the praises from the Jyeshta Saama . Sāma - sweet , mild , pleasant , gentle Sāmapriya also means one who is fond of such sweet , pleasant and gentle words and use of such language अमृतस्यन्दिनीं वाचं चन्दनस्पर्शशीतलां सर्वत्रैव प्रयुञ्जानः शिवलोके महीयते - शिवधर्मोत्तरे amṛtasyandinīṃ vācaṃ candanasparṡaṡītalāṃ sarvatraiva prayuñjānaḥ ṡivalōkē mahīyatē - ṡivadharmōttarē One who always uses pleasant gentle words which showers nectar , and which is chill like the touch of sandal paste is respected in the shivaloka . One of the names of Lord Shiva is Saamaasyaha in the Shiva sahasranama. It means one whose face is the Saama Veda. It also means Shiva is one who sings the Saama Veda. Saama is also related to sama. equality. The Lord loves all equally. He is not partial. How did we get here? What is going on? I recorded this episode a day before the most contentious presidential election in anyone's recent memory. I decided to do this episode for two reasons. First, because I know we are all hungry for coping strategies- the air is filled with tension and division and it does not feel good. Second, because it's time we addressed the root problem. This shit-show of a political scene, all of the hate, and dysfunction we are seeing right now are all symptoms. They are not the problem. We want to point to a person, a party, a policy and say, "There! That is the problem. That is what is to blame." And then create Team Them and Team Us, and fight against each other. That would be easy. It's what we've always done. But where has that lead? This episode will challenge you. It's not the easy way out. It's not spiritually bypassing. In this episode, I explain that the root problem that has lead to all of the chaos in our world is this false sense of separateness that has become our reality. We don't know our neighbors, we hate people who we perceive to be different, we are disconnected from the Earth, and this reality is a huge deviance from our Truth. The most basic, fundamental spiritual Truth is oneness. We are all one. I introduced the term, Tat Tvam Asi, which in Sanskrit translates to "thou art that" or "I am that too". It's time we flipped the lens. As Lion, as Leaders, as people who want to live aligned, authentic, alive, wild, and free, it is our job to own that what we see in the world exists somewhere in us too. We have to practice radical compassion and love - especially for those we disagree with. This week is going to be hard. I am offering free coaching calls if anyone needs extra support. This episode was originally supposed to be the first in the Symbology 101 series, but after a recent discussion, I decided to push it back until next week. Why that is, you'll just have to listen to the episode, but it does lead nicely into what we are discussing and that is listener stories! On this episode of The Alchemical Mind, I share a poem and a mystical experience by two amazing listeners which leads us into discussing critical thinking, mental health, fear-mongering, discovering truth, and so much more. Bhaj Govindam One verse so beautifully flows into the other, a path for the Sadhak for an effortless transition from the temporary to the permanent, from the unreal to the real and from momentary joy to eternal bliss. This verse shows that the world ‘We See' is but a reflection of ‘Who We Are'. The tenth verse said to me - Shruti Says
All of us are essentially one and thus equally rightful for love and kindness. Meet an organisation which is aimed at making this truth a living reality for our society.
Everything I See Is An Expression Of Myself
This lecture was given on March 8, 2020, at the Vedanta Society of St. Louis by Swami Tattwamayananda. It gives a thorough analysis of Sri Ramakrishna’s Advaita experience from the perspectives of Advaita Vedanta.-Advaita experience is timeless. - It is just as ancient as an idea - a concept – as it is as an experience. - The Rig Veda Samhita itself, which is the oldest and, incidentally, the most important spiritual document of Hindu tradition, states ékaṃ sád víprā bahudhâ vadanty (Rig Veda 1.164.46), “Truth is One, Sages call it by various names.”-This idea was expounded and first developed into a compact philosophical metaphysical system by Shankaracharya (788 – 820 AD). - When Totapuri landed in Dakshineswar, he found a young man with beaming face, which showed that he had not thought of anything other than God in his whole lifetime because what you think with your mind, that can be seen visibly on your face. -Totapuri started instruction and found that it was difficult for Sri Ramakrishna to transcend the personal. Every time he tried to ascend beyond Dvaita, beyond the anthropomorphic, the personal, the sākāra, the Divine Mother Bhavatarani, Kali always appeared before him, blocking the way. -Totapuri instructed Sri Ramakrishna to meditate between the two eyebrows and then Sri Ramakrishna “cut asunder,” he went beyond the personal and entered into Nirvikalpa Samadhi for 3 days.-Totapuri exclaimed that the Advaitic experience that he himself had taken forty years to attain with great difficulty, Sri Ramakrishna had accomplished in three days. -Normally, in traditional Advaitic instruction there is one upadeśa-vākya, one lakṣaṇa-vākya, one anusandhāna-vākya, and then there is the anubhūti-vākya. These are the four Mahāvākya taken from four different Vedic traditions and four different Upanishadic traditions. -After getting Tat Tvam Asi Mahāvākya, a normal spiritual seeker, after practicing this maybe for several decades or maybe several lives may eventually reach the experience. -When you reach the experience level, it is called Aham Brahmāsmi (Brihadaranyaka Upanishad I.iv.10)-Even that experience has two levels – (1) where you intellectually get convinced of the reality - I am that Brahman. (2) Then you transcend the statement, you reach the real experience where knower, known and knowledge merge into one.-Sri Ramakrishna's never thought of anything other than God in his whole life. For normal people, the problem is how to think of God. For Sri Ramakrishna, the problem was how to think of anything other than God. -His saṃskāra-s, vṛtti-s, vāsanā-s, saṅkalpa-s, all had been merged into one single sākāra-vṛtti as it is called in the Bhakti tradition. It is also in Vedanta. Before you reach Advaita Anubhūti, it is called brahma-ākāra-vṛtti. If such a person happens to listen to a great spiritual idea, immediately he captures it.-A normal person who has not reached that level of spiritual evolution has to struggle hard to accommodate the God idea into billions of his other ideas which have already accumulated in the mental system. Whatever we do - karma, it becomes an impression, an attitude, a tendency – saṃskāra, which leads to more actions. This karma-saṃskāra-cakram goes on in cycles, different life cycles. - śabda-aparokṣa-vāda holds the view that a highly evolved person, a person who has reached the highest level of spiritual fitness, if he listens, immediately it strikes him as an experience. -The fundamental qualifications, for an Advaita-adhikārī are sādhana-catustaya – discerning wisdom, dispassion, the 6 virtues of self-restraint, and the desire for freedom - together with śravaṇa, manana, nididhyāsana - reading, listening, meditating, and contemplating on higher spiritual ideas. -One example makes it clear. Suppose a child, a student has done extremely well in his fifth grade examination with a very high grade. When he goes and sits in the sixth grade the next year, the first few lessons that he has to study will be very easy for him. There's no distance at all. -ābhāsa-vāda and pratibimba-vāda elaborated. -The opposite view is called Prasaṅkhyāna-vāda. Even after getting the instruction Tat Tvam Asi, you can't immediately get experience according to this view. You have to work hard to purify the mind for reaching that level of spiritual fitness. -Some parallels can be found in Western Christian mystical tradition in St. Theresa of Avila's autobiographical writings, St. Augustine’s life, or even Saint Francis of Assisi.-In one of the unique books, small books belonging to the Russian Orthodox tradition - the Way of a Pilgrim - you find a simple Russian pilgrim who was able to grasp the essence of the Jesus Prayer after being taught by his teacher almost immediately. He, of course had to make long preparation in search of his teacher first.-You can get an experience only if you travel the distance from an idea to the experience. It's a long distance. It is not just a concept or information or news that we get. It is a matter of real experience. -The view of Yoga-Vāsiṣṭha explains seven stages of spiritual evolution. After the initial stages, there should be a natural tendency, an instinctive tendency to study scriptures, to meditate on scriptures, without a lot of effort.-If you are surrounded by a large number of books, maybe in the airport or bus-stand or anywhere, your mind should automatically go to the Upanishad, the Gita or the Bible or anything that is likely to sublimate your mental tendencies. That kind of natural instinctive tendency - when we reach that level of spiritual evolution, then naturally slowly we evolve into the early stages of mukti, jivanmukti.-The personal-impersonal contradictions exist only at the polemical dialectical level, not at the experience level. -There is no question of going contrary to the personal. You are going beyond the personal. You are transcending the personal and once you have reached that transcendental-impersonal dimension, that Advaita Anubhūti, then you understand that the personal is also part of it. -The highest unwavering devotion - avyabhicāriṇī bhakti is jñānam itself.
How You Can Live a Better Life with Yoga with Dr. Christa Kuberry Yoga has been around for thousands of years. Most of us probably started practicing it by exercising in mind. But as we go on, we realize that it goes beyond the physical aspect. It helps us discover what's truly in our hearts, it clears our mind of any distractions, and it allows us to become free and vulnerable. In this episode, Yoga Alliance's Dr. Christa Kuberry joins us to talk about how she got into yoga, what American yoga is, and how yoga has evolved through the years. She also shares how yoga has helped her manage her emotions and how you can do it too. Check out the highlights of the episode below. Make sure that you tune in to the show to know all the details! About Our Guest Dr. Christa Kuberry is the Vice President of Standards at Yoga Alliance. She leads the company's efforts in evaluating and evolving yoga teacher training standards. She is a yoga teacher, practitioner, and scholar. She also serves on the steering committee for the Yoga Theory and Practice Group. Living a Better Life with Yoga Yoga as a Career Path Dr. Christa started her first yoga class in 1999, and she became a practitioner in 2002. She started yoga from an exercise perspective. When she was getting her masters in religious studies, she became interested in yoga and began bringing her academic knowledge into the studio. She then became a yoga teacher trainer. Findings in American Yoga Dr. Christa wrote her dissertation on American yoga. She says yoga in the United States is very individualized. She argued in one of her papers that yoga in America is similar to a mash-up song, with different pieces thrown together in one underlying beat. Yoga is not going to stop growing because it has so much viability and is useful in different settings. People get into yoga from different perspectives, but they all seek a deeper understanding and a more holistic picture of yoga. Yoga Is About Connection Yoga is a lifelong journey of education, and there are different ways to begin that path. Dr. Christa believes in the Hindu aphorism, “Tat Tvam Asi,” which translates to “You are that.” We are already what we seek to become. Individual practice leads to collective betterment. She's writing a book about the complex history of yoga and its concepts from an academic lens. Practicing Ritual and Gratitude Ritual is an essential piece of her life because she has to have a structure in her busy life. The first thing Dr. Christa does every morning is to meditate and practice some Asana. Before she goes to bed, she reminds herself of two or three things she’s grateful for, no matter how mundane they are. It helps her go through the next day with less overwhelm and more gratitude and compassion. The Gift of Vulnerability Everyone is a beginner at one point in their life. The process is just as significant as the end result. Yoga is a heart-based practice that makes you vulnerable and courageous at the same time. Freedom and Yoga Dr. Christa believes freedom comes from presence. Yoga helps her be present in everyday moments. It also helps her feel free from everyday moments once she steps on the sacred rectangle of her yoga mat. Dealing with Emotional Chaos Yoga has taught her that she has to acknowledge her feelings and work around them to get past them. We can't help what happens to us, but through yoga, we can learn how to react better to what happens to us. 5 Powerful Quotes from This Episode “We have a lot of brand new yogis, and there [are] a lot more people looking for depth. We start in this space of going to yoga because we want to have toned arms or we want some stress relief. And then something seems to happen. It's called Yoga Pratyaksha—this whole moment of superordinary consciousness where you're like, ‘Whoa, something happened in that class, and I want more of that.’” “The thing that really speaks to me, especially from the Rigveda, is an aphorism ‘Tat Tvam Asi,’ which essentially means ‘Thou art that’ or ‘That thou art.’ For me, I really look into that as, ‘I might be a drop in the ocean, but I am also the ocean.’ So I have to live in both of those spaces.” “The gift of vulnerability leads to the gift of yoga, as far as stepping into those spaces and being courageous enough to do so.” “Know that yoga is itself a heart-based practice and that you can be courageous enough. Wear your heart on your sleeve. Walk into that space. Know that every single person in that room, at some point on their path, probably also felt just as uncomfortable as you. People don't like to think about this either, but some part of yoga is also about being uncomfortable. It's about what that feels like to not always have everything figured out or sitting in it a little bit.” “Being part of what we speak to when we speak about yoga is just as important as having a perfect or working towards some sort of idea of perfection and alignment.” Resources Yoga Sutras of Patañjali by Edwin Bryant No Mud, No Lotus by Thich Nhat Hanh Visit Yoga Alliance to know more about how they serve the community. This lecture was delivered on August 31, 2019 as part of the Labor Day Vedanta Retreat held in the Olema Vedanta Retreat.-Holy Mother: One utterance of ‘japa’ with great concentration of mind and with focus on the meaning of the mantra is equal to a million mechanical repetitions of the mantra with the mind elsewhere.-‘Japa’ has four stages: The first stage is verbal repetition of the holy ‘mantra.’ In the second stage, the verbal repetition has no sound. In the third stage, there is only mental repetition concentrated on the meaning of the ‘mantra.’ In the fourth stage, one fully internalizes the ‘mantra’ and becomes one with it. Meditation starts at the third stage.-Beginners can practice external ‘japa’ to keep the mind away from harmful objects. But this is only the beginning. Advanced seekers can practice complete identification with the ‘mantra.’-The Bhagavata Purana teaches how to leave this world with God’s name on your lips and God’s form in your heart. It is a devotional classic. At the same time, it is full of Advaitic teachings. It was written by Vyasa, after Narada instructed him to write something that serves not only to teach how to live ethically in society but as a guiding light to spiritual seekers to reach the highest fulfillment. When Vyasa finished writing the book, his own depression lifted and he attained inner contentment.-The most intelligent way of leaving the world is repeating the name of God having attained inner fulfillment. King Parikshit’s story is discussed. Sage Shuka taught him the art of life by answering his two questions: “What should a dying man do?” and “What should a dying man not do?”-Jada Bharata’s story is discussed as an illustration of the danger of “forgetting japa”. Even after taking to spiritual life, distractions, such as obsessive attachment even in the form of apparent compassion, can take place leading to long delays in spiritual evolution.-Ajamila’s story is discussed to illustrate the importance of remembering ‘japa.’ At the point of death, when he uttered “Narayana”, his son’s name, he suddenly remembered its true meaning as a name of God. The good ‘samskaras’ he had accumulated early in his life, suddenly linked him to God and he was liberated in the end.-When a ‘mantra’ is repeated by countless saints and sage across thousands of years, it gains spiritual potency. That potency is transmitted to a seeker, when he utters the ‘mantra’ with great faith, ‘shraddha,’ and focused on the meaning of the ‘mantra.’ For Sri Ramakrishna, one utterance of the Mahavakya, “Tat Tvam Asi,” was enough to take him to ‘Samadhi’ – what he heard became a matter of experience.-‘Japa’ helps one in this life as well as in future lives. Lord Krishna says: “You can’t help but reconnect with your spiritual past.” Your spiritual wealth is never lost.-Holy Mother warned disciples to be careful of who they associated with and the context in which they were associating. They should develop and practice discerning wisdom. The highest devotee is one who sees the whole creation in God and who sees the presence of God in everything in the world. This is the highest stage – however, when one is evolving, one needs to be careful about association.-‘Prema,’ ‘maitri’, ‘kripa’ and ‘upeksha’ are discussed as methods to regulate all external relations. A beginner should keep a long distance away from those who may distract him from his spiritual path. A beginner should not try to transform others. He should keep himself focused on a higher ideal. Judging, criticizing, and analyzing others can be harmful so he should remain indifferent to negative associations. -----However, if someone has a sincere interest in spiritual life, the spiritual seeker should have sympathy and help in whatever way possible. Most importantly, a spiritual seeker will benefit through constant company of holy ideas and like-minded spiritual seekers who will strengthen their spiritual convictions and provide good food for the mind. When we sincerely admire the good qualities of others we acquire those qualities.-Even if we listen to someone speaking ill of others, we inherit a fraction of the evil deed being spoken of. Conversely, when we serve a holy person or speak well of others, we inherit a fraction of their spiritual wealth.-Prahlada’s story of devotion is discussed. It is important for expectant mothers to feed their minds with spiritual food, as that is transmitted to the child, as was the case with Prahlada. Prahlada taught nine devotional practices: Sravanam, Kirtanam, smaranam, Padasevanam, Archanam, Vandanam, Dasyam, Sakhyam, Atmanivedanam.-Holy Mother emphasized the importance of ‘karma-yoga.’ A seeker should first give up laziness and do good work with a strong motive. This helps him transform physical energy into spiritual energy. As one evolves, he will be able to practice selfless work. --It is good to work while keeping the mind on God. Swami Vivekananda understood this so the Ramakrishna mission gives opportunities for selfless work, which is critical for spiritual growth, which leads to progress in our ‘japa’ and meditation.-Holy Mother corrected many wrong notions. For example, she corrected disciples’ obsession with external purity. She also challenged quick-fix methods of spirituality. Sri Ramakrishna and Kedar’s story is discussed – Kedar expected a quick-fix by holding Sri Ramakrishna’s toe, which Sri Ramakrishna made fun of.-When the Malaya Breeze blows, all trees are transformed into sandalwood, except bamboo, banana and grass. Similarly, when a great incarnation comes, he is like a ship that can take many across the ocean of worldliness.-Sri Ramakrishna’s instructions were specific to the needs of each disciple. Swami Vivekananda expounded Vedanta as a new spiritual paradigm. Their teachings, as well as those of Shankaracharya’s, are based on Advaita Vedanta.-Holy Mother instructed monks to learn modern English as well as traditional scriptures. With her unerring insight and despite having no English education herself, she could understand that many Western spiritual seekers would come to the monks for instruction in the future.-Non-dualism does not contradict dualism – it transcends dualism. The conflict exists only at the philosophical level. -When we undergo spiritual practices, a secondary spiritual personality begins to emerge. Initially, the voice of this personality is weak, but it gets stronger with practice. It helps the seeker develop natural spiritual instincts and an inner filtering mechanism to hold fast to good things and keep away from negative influences.-Lord Rama is discussed as an embodiment of a perfect human being and manifesting the 24 qualities described by Valmiki. He was even an ideal enemy – he instructed Vibhishana to perform Ravana’s last rites and to not have hatred towards him. Gandhi was a devotee of Lord Rama and died uttering his name, meaning he had realized total identification with Lord Rama.
Asi ist ein Sanskrit Wort, das insbesondere im Kontext einer Mahavakya von Bedeutung ist. Diese Mahavakya ist Tat Tvam Asi. Aber was heißt Asi eigentlich? Und wer bin ich wirklich? Dieser Video Vortrag von und mit Sukadev Bretz zum Sanskritwort Asi ist Teil des Yoga Vidya Multimedia Sanskrit Wörterbuchs. Ein vollständiges Sanskrit Wörterbuch Sanskrit-Deutsch, Deutsch-Sanskrit.
The lecture was given on December 5, 2015, at the Vedanta Society of Northern California by Swami Tattwamayananda.-Bird's eye view of the four Mahavakyas in the Upanishad is provided, with deep dive on first Mahavakya: "Tat Tvam Asi"-Four Mahavakyas are: (1)Tat Tvam Asi, from Chandogya Upanishad in Sama Veda (2)Prajnanam Brahma, from Aitareya Upanishad in Rig Veda (3)Ayam Atma Brahma, from Mandukya Upanishad in Atharva Veda (4)Aham Brahma Asmi, from Brihadaranyaka Upanishad in Yajur Veda-The statements tell us who we are and what the universal truth is. The four represent the four stages of evolution in the spiritual evolution of the seeker, starting with Tat Tvam Asi and culminating in Aham Brahma Asmi, which represent complete union with the whole spiritual universe.-Tat Tvam Asi is updesa-vakya and Aham Brahma Asi is anubhuti-vakya.-Story of Uddalaka and Shvetaketu is discussed. True learning makes one wise and humble. Information + knowledge = wisdom. In the process of teaching Shvetaketu, Uddalaka utters: "Tat Tvam Asi" and repeats it eight more times during his instructions-Meaning of Tat Tvam Asi: "The essence of the whole creation, the one supreme reality, the Atman - resides in all of us. It is omnipresent, all-pervading and is our own inner Self. It is not far away". God is not a person who creates the world and sits outside – the whole of humanity is one spiritual family.-Discussion on why Swami Vivekananda only taught from the Upanishads. In those days, there were fanatic beliefs and people were looking for a universal spiritual paradigm. Swamiji realized that every religion had some level of universal truth. By teaching them Vedanta, he could help people realize the essence of their religion.-True religion has two elements: (1) it teaches universal, spiritual humanism and (2) it presents a scientific analysis of who we are-Belief is not the foundation of true religion. Experience is.-Discussion on how to interpret Mahavakyas. We cannot take the meaning literally. Rather the implied meaning has to be understood. "That thou art" - thou refers to the Atman within.-What a student should do after listening to "Tat Tvam Asi" - contemplate on the meaning, meditate, begin to lead a pure life, do unselfish deeds. The student should go through a spiritual preparation, which makes him fit for the knowledge. Theoretical knowledge should culminate in experience, and this evolution is represented by the four Mahavakyas.-Four stages of a spiritual seeker's evolution: (1) Rituals and prayers (2) Conviction in the truth (3) Glimpse of the higher truth (4) Experience of the truth
Shrimad Bhagavata Mahapurana Synopsis of the Sixteenth Session Bhagavata Tritiya Skanda (Book Three) Chapter 1 to 20 (Tying the loose ends) ————————— In life we are always faced with two elements, ‘Controllable' and ‘Uncontrollable'. Instead of freighting over what we have no control on, work on what we have control over and see the magic unfold. ———————— Point 1 Don't Lose focus - Chapter 3 is to understand Sarga. Every book in 'Srimad Bhagavat Mahapuran' has been written to explain a point and bring us to Asreya. Sarga - How was this world created? Visarga - How were the different species made, when all the creatures are formed out of the same tatva? Till - Asreya - What is the nature of that, which upholds all else. Now, It contains 33 chapters and points at the Lord through creation. ‘The changing balance of the three gunas, within the light of the Brahman, cause all the variety seen in this world. The first nineteenth chapters describe the Asura Visarga and the remaining fourteen chapters describe the Daiva sarga. Point 2 All is one - No question of Inequality - Drop the mundane struggle of addressing disparity where there is none. Use these scriptures to understand the true culture and the Higher Self. There is NO: - Child marriage concept - Women inequality - Wife as an inferior element - One is higher than the other - Be it Sage or God - Servant or master - Difference between Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh - Taboos: What we shy off in talking about today are covered in the scriptures as normal. But, with an insight into the decorum - Demons: Even the so called evil, followed rules. Point 3 Human the Supreme Being and the first tangible creation. Brahma after repeated round of Intense Tapa and Effort. After removing one layer after an other of various tendencies. Created the Human Being from his purest self and equipped him with the purest of tendencies, for the benefit of the entire creation. Point 4 What is that which is in all? What is that which is changeless? What Is that which is all? What is that beyond the name and form? What is that? When we look at the creation happening, we realise that there is something that permeates all. Story 1: Sati's doubts Ramji as the supreme self and goes to test him. He not only recognises her, who is in the guise of Sita. But also, gives her a divine vision. She saw multitudes of universes, and each separate vision of Ram was attended by a host of gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, various species and animated and in animate creation. But, while all that adored the Lord appeared in various garbs, the garbs of Ram, Sita and Laxman did not vary. Story 2: Kaagbhasundi had a doubt on Sri Ram, when he saw him crying like a ordinary baby. This was at the time when he would go and spend time with Ram when it was time for Ram Leela. When this doubt entered he began to fly away but was chased by this crying baby, with his hand stretched out to catch him across universes. Not only this, when Kagabhasundi gave up and feel down. He was taken in by this Small Rama and resided in him for 100 of years going from one universe to the other in his body. He says, ‘ Everything is saw had a distinctive stamp of it own. But, in my round of the innumerable universes, I saw no other Ram.' Point 5 What is this Ram they are talking about? Tat Tvam Asi means You Are That Ahaṁ Brahmāsmī means I am Brahman Story 1: Princess of Kashi (Link Shared) Story 2: Raja Janak (Link Shared) ‘Na yeh Saach, Na woh Saach, bus tu hi saach.' Point 5 Varaha Avatar is the form that is made up of scarifies which can not be perceived by sinful. He is all the sacrificial act, the sacrificial material and the result of the sacrifices also. He is the outcome of that Yagna which is smokeless. Where the eyes water because of the love for God. Where there is not smoke as there

The Mahavakyas are the Great Sentences of Advaita Vedanta and Jnana Yoga, and are contained in the Upanishads. Maha is Great, and Vakyas are sentences, or utterances for contemplation. The contemplations on the Mahavakyas also blend well with the practices of yoga meditation, prayer, and mantra... To truly understand the meaning of theMahavakyas it is necessary to practice contemplation and meditation in your own inner laboratory of stillness and silence. Brahma satyam jagan mithya - God/Spirit is eternally real, the objects of the material world are only temporarily real, (yet) Ekam evad vitiyam brahma - there is one eternal reality without any division. Prajnanam Brahman - The supreme knowledge is to know that eternal oneness through direct experience. Ayam Atma Brahma - the individual is one and the same as the absolute reality; like the wave is a part of the ocean. Sarvam Khalvidam Brahma - all of this, including me, is the one eternal reality; the wave and the ocean are one. Aham Brahmasmi - who I really am the core of my being is that eternal oneness; Tat Tvam Asi - that eternal oneness is the essence of who you are (also).
