What is the Kardashev Scale? Introduced by Soviet astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev in 1964. A method of classifying civilizations based on their ability to harness and control energy. Originally had three types, but modern interpretations expand it further. The Levels of Civilization Type I – Planetary Civilization Can harness and use all available energy on its home planet. This includes fossil fuels, renewables, and full planetary control over climate and resources. Humanity is currently at ~0.73 on the scale (according to estimates by physicist Michio Kaku). Type II – Stellar Civilization Capable of harnessing all energy from its star. Could involve Dyson Spheres—megastructures built to capture solar energy. Such a civilization would be essentially immune to planetary disasters. Type III – Galactic Civilization Controls energy on a galactic scale, possibly utilizing stars across an entire galaxy. Would require interstellar travel, advanced AI, and megastructures beyond human comprehension. Beyond Type III – Theoretical Extensions Type IV: Harnesses energy on a universal scale, possibly tapping into dark energy. Type V: Masters multiversal travel, controlling energy across different realities (pure speculation at this point). Where Does Humanity Stand? Currently at Type 0.73, relying on fossil fuels but progressing toward renewable and nuclear energy. Theoretical advancements—like fusion power and space mining—could push us toward Type I. Potential roadblocks: climate change, resource depletion, self-destruction, or technological stagnation. Are There Other Kardashev-Level Civilizations? The Fermi Paradox: If advanced civilizations exist, why haven't we detected them? Possible explanations: They are too advanced to notice us. They self-destruct before reaching higher levels. They use energy in ways we don't understand (e.g., dark matter manipulation). Thanks for listening, but remember, don't tell anyone about what you heard today, because This Podcast Is a Secret!
EPISODE 129 | The Fermi Paradox: Here Comes Nobody If we are not unique as a species, an intelligent one that builds civilizations, then there must be lots and lots of other civilizations out there in the galaxy and the rest of the universe beyond. But if so, where the hell is everybody? That's the question at the heart of the Fermi Paradox. And this has kicked off a chain of reasoning and speculation that crosses disciplinary boundaries, and lets us start to envision, not just what might be out there, but where we ourselves want to go as a global civilization. In this special episode of the Kaka Balli Punjabi Podcast, I'm joined by Dr. Vishal Saini (PhD) for a deep dive into the fascinating future of humanity in space, and the profound changes technology and AI could bring to our lives on Earth. Here's what we discuss: SpaceX Catching a Rocket – A Game Changer: We explore SpaceX's incredible feat of catching rockets upon return, a breakthrough that makes space travel more sustainable and economical. We discuss the potential for reduced costs, increased accessibility to space, and how this innovation might reshape industries on Earth. When Will We Leave Earth and Settle Elsewhere? Dr. Saini shares his insights on how long it might take before humanity can seriously consider leaving Earth to live on another planet or moon. What advancements and milestones must we achieve before we can even think about packing our bags for space? Where Will We Live First – The Moon or Mars? We discuss the possibilities and challenges of establishing human habitats on either the Moon or Mars. From the Moon's proximity to Mars's similarities with Earth, we weigh the pros and cons of each and the obstacles we'll face in building a sustainable life off-planet. Simulating Mars on Earth for Astronaut Training: NASA and other space agencies are creating artificial Mars-like environments on Earth to prepare astronauts for life on other planets. Dr. Saini explains how these simulations help us understand the psychological and physical demands of space life, giving us a glimpse into how challenging it will be to adapt to alien conditions. Providing Energy Beyond Earth: Sustaining human life in space demands immense energy resources. We discuss the concept of the Kardashev Scale and the Dyson Sphere—ideas that suggest how advanced civilizations might harness energy from stars. What are the hurdles of producing and storing energy in space, and how might solar energy be adapted for extraterrestrial use? Harnessing Solar Energy in Space – Potential and Challenges: Solar power could be a crucial energy source for space colonies, but there are technical and logistical challenges. Dr. Saini delves into the intricacies of harnessing and distributing solar energy outside Earth's atmosphere, touching on the possibilities and limitations of this technology. Why We Need to Expand Beyond Earth: Given the risks of climate disasters, nuclear war, and other existential threats, we discuss the need for humanity to explore life beyond Earth. Dr. Saini outlines why spreading across planets could be essential for human survival, and what dangers staying confined to Earth might hold. The By-products of Experiments and the Ethics of Research: Experimentation in fields like space exploration often yields unexpected innovations that benefit society. But should we pursue advancements in all areas? We debate the ethical implications of research, balancing potential rewards with the risks. Limited Resources and Human Survival: Earth's resources are finite, and our growing population strains what's available. We discuss how this limitation could propel us toward new planets for resources and survival, and what sacrifices might be needed along the way. Challenges of Time in Space Travel: Time in space operates differently due to relativity, which could complicate long-term space missions and interplanetary life. We discuss the impact of time dilation on human experience, and how future space travelers might perceive time and aging differently. AI and the Future of Education – Is It Redundant? With rapid advancements in AI, Dr. Saini explains how education as we know it might change. Could AI make traditional knowledge-based learning obsolete, focusing instead on creativity and problem-solving skills?
Do you prefer multistory episodes, single story episodes, or a mix? Let us know! In this episode of Discover Daily, host Sienna dives into the fascinating concept of the Kardashev Scale, a method of measuring a civilization's technological advancement based on its energy consumption and utilization capabilities. As humanity inches up the scale, currently ranking at Type 0.7276, the implications for our future energy usage and potential for cosmic expansion are staggering. Sienna breaks down the original three types of civilizations proposed by Soviet astronomer Nikolai Kardashev in 1964, explaining the mind-boggling energy requirements for each level and putting Earth's current status into perspective. Sienna explores a recent study in Nature that projects Earth's advancement to Type 0.7449 by 2060, representing a growth of over 50% in global energy consumption within the next 40 years. She discusses the potential impact of game-changing technologies like nuclear fusion and the need for continued research and investment in advanced energy solutions. However, the Kardashev Scale's limitations and criticisms are also addressed, including its narrow focus on energy consumption and the ecological concerns surrounding such massive energy usage.Beyond the scientific implications, Sienna delves into the philosophical questions raised by the Kardashev Scale. As we grapple with the long-term trajectory of our civilization, will we continue to prioritize increasing energy consumption, or will we find a more balanced, sustainable path forward? The scale also holds significance for the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI), offering a framework for detecting and classifying potential alien civilizations based on their energy signatures. Everyone is curious about life in the Universe, UFOs and whether ET is out there. Over the course of his thirty-year career as an astrophysicist, Adam Frank has consistently been asked about the possibility of intelligent life in the universe. Are aliens real? Where are they? Why haven't we found them? What happens if we do?We've long been led to believe that astronomers spend every night searching the sky for extraterrestrials, but the truth is we have barely started looking. Not until now have we even known where to look or how. In The Little Book of Aliens, Frank, a leading researcher in the field, takes us on a journey to all that we know about the possibility of life outside planet Earth and shows us the cutting-edge science that has brought us to this unique moment in human history: the one where we go find out for ourselves. In this small book with big stakes, Frank gives us a rundown of everything we need to know, from the scientific origins of the search for intelligent life, the Fermi Paradox, the Kardashev Scale, the James Webb Telescope, as well as UFOs and their conspiracy theories. Drawing from his own work and that of other scientists studying the possibility of alien life, he brings together the latest scientific thinking, data, ideas, and discoveries to equip us with the critical facts as we stand at what may be the last moment in human history where we still believe we are all alone. This book is about everything we do—and do not—know about life, intelligent or otherwise beyond Earth. In language that is engaging, entertaining and fun, The Little Book of Aliens provides a comprehensive first look at how close we are to finding out if others actually exist—and if they do, what they might be like.Humankind is on the precipice of finding its neighbors. What comes next? No person is better suited to answer that question—and lead the search—than Adam Frank.BioAdam is the Helen F. and Fred H. Gowen professor of astrophysics at the University of Rochester. For many years Adam was a leading expert on the final stages of evolution for stars like the sun. His current work focuses on life in the Universe, the search for “technosignatures” of other exo-civilizations, along with climate change and the “Astrobiology of the Anthropocene.” He has also carrying out work on the physics of life through studies via an information theory perspective.Adam has appeared on the Joe Rogan show, Pharrel Williams iamOTHER podcast, Coast to Coast Radio and others. He has also appeared on a variety of national and international science documentaries such as Alien Worlds, Mars and The Universe.Adam has received a number of awards for his scientific and outreach work. His book Light of the Stars won the 2019 National Honors Society Best Book in Science. In 2020 he was given the American Physical Society's Joseph A. Burton Forum Award. In 2021 he was granted the Carl Sagan Medal for excellence in public communication by the American Astronomical Society.https://www.amzn.com/dp/0063279738https://www.adamfrankscience.com/Betsey LewisABDUCTED presents authentic stories of American Indians who live on or off reservations and who were abducted by the benevolent Star People and by the malevolent aliens. Betsey Lewis's new book details stories of alien abductions by a variety of extraterrestrials—Grays, the Elders who appear cloned, insect-like, and Lizard or Reptilian-looking. Some are benevolent and others have a dark agenda to control humanity. They exist hidden in bases beneath Earth's deepest oceans, and in deep underground bases. Discover how the U.S. military colludes with the eight-foot Reptilians for their advanced technology. Learn about Earth's Portals/Wormholes/Stargates where aliens enter dimensional realms to travel the universal highways. Portals are known to exist worldwide and on other planets. The infamous Skinwalker Ranch in Southeast Utah is theorized to have a portal that allows UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) to suddenly appear and disappear in seconds or dive through solid rock and appear in another area of Skinwalker Ranch's Mesa.In one disturbing story, Leland, an American Indian, watched spaceships land on his reservation ranch one night as late-model black cars were lowered to the ground. Human-looking clones got into the cars and when the car returned the next night, only the driver returned. None of them spoke to him, but Leland sensed they were being taken to bus terminals, airports, and cities throughout the United States—any place where they could live undetected. He said his ranch is a “drop-off center.” No one would know they were different-looking humans in the big cities--they would blend in.Lewis theorizes that thousands of cloned humans have been dumped in major cities throughout the world for the past twenty years or more, and were programmed to create chaos, hate, and violent protests that we are currently witnessing throughout the United States and Europe. It's all part of the plan to control Earth and humans. ”We don't have an energy problem, we have a matter problem.”Matt Jones (he/him) is an American designer with a background at Google, where he was a Principal Designer for eight years. Most recently, he has been working with clean energy products at Lunar Energy. Since having left Lunar he is now focusing on his new venture Kardashev Street, which aims to help the solar energy sector harness more of the power already available to us.Have you heard of Nikolai Kardashev? Matt's introduces the Kardashev Scale, measuring a civilisation's technological advancement based on the amount of energy it is capable of harnessing. From the planetary to the stellar, even to the galactic scale – this might sound like the stuff of Star Trek, but it's quite simple. Matt believes that with the existing wind, water and solar power available to us (plus storage capabilities) we can reach Type 1 living on the Kardashev scale – we're currently only at 0.7.By working with the 3Ds of energy: decarbonisation, digitisation and decentralisation – products like the solar batteries produced by Lunar can help us get all the electricity we need, while still leaving fossil fuels behind.

There's this joke that fusion is always 30 years away. 50 years ago, it was 30 years away. 20 years ago, it was still thirty years away. Today, though… we might be within a decade. We spent the first half of the season on nuclear fission, and the last episode on many of the other energy sources that will play a role in meeting humanity's growing energy demands and building an Age of Miracles. All of them will be critical. But there's a growing chorus of people who believe that if we're going to meet the demand for 3-5x the amount of energy we use today, and do it with clean energy, we're going to need clean energy. And that as we climb the Kardashev Scale – the framework for measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement based on the amount of energy it can use – fusion is going to be our ladder. In today's episode, we'll cover the basics of fusion energy – what it is, how it works, why it matters, how progress is measured, and what the main approaches are. In this episode, Alexander and Jason will embark on an exciting journey to explore the diverse types of civilizations that may exist beyond our planet. The universe is a vast expanse, teeming with countless stars and galaxies. With such an immense cosmic landscape, it's difficult to imagine that Earth is the only planet hosting life. Scientists and thinkers have long pondered the possibility of extraterrestrial civilizations, sparking our curiosity about the different forms they could take. In our quest to understand these potential civilizations, let's delve into three broad categories that scientists and theorists often discuss: Type I, Type II, and Type III civilizations, as originally proposed by the physicist Kardashev. Let's break it down: Type I civilization is one that harnesses and utilizes all the energy resources available on its home planet. This civilization would have advanced technology, clean and efficient energy sources, and global unity in managing their planet's resources. As a comparison, Earth is not yet a Type I civilization but is gradually making strides toward achieving this status. Type II civilization takes the concept of harnessing energy to a cosmic scale. They would be capable of utilizing and controlling the energy output of an entire star, like our Sun. This level of advancement would require the ability to construct megastructures, such as a Dyson sphere, to capture a significant portion of a star's energy. With this incredible power at their disposal, Type II civilizations could explore their galaxy and potentially make contact with other advanced civilizations. Type III civilization would have complete mastery over the energy of an entire galaxy. They would possess technology far beyond our comprehension, enabling them to harness the energy of billions of stars and traverse vast cosmic distances effortlessly. Their knowledge and capabilities would be virtually limitless, and they may even possess the ability to manipulate space-time itself. Type IV would almost be able to harness the energy content of the entire universe and with that, they could traverse the accelerating expansion of space. Type V is suggested to be advanced enough to escape their universe of origin and explore the multiverse. Such a civilization would have mastered the technology to a point where they could simulate or build a custom universe. While the Kardashev scale provides a framework for understanding different types of civilizations, it's important to note that it is based on our current understanding of science and technology. Future discoveries could introduce new categories and dimensions to this classification system. Additionally, there may be other forms of civilizations that exist beyond the Kardashev scale, with unique characteristics and abilities that we can't even fathom at present. Speculating about such civilizations allows our imagination to run wild and sparks wonder and excitement about the possibilities that lie beyond our own world. In conclusion, as we ponder the potential existence of extraterrestrial civilizations, exploring the different types of civilizations provides us with a framework for understanding the range of possibilities. From Type I civilizations harnessing their planet's resources to Type II civilizations manipulating the energy output of stars, and the unfathomable capabilities of Type III civilizations, our exploration of these concepts ignites our imagination and deepens our appreciation for the vastness and diversity of the universe. Let us join Alexander and Jason as they explore different civilizations. www.higherdensityliving.com Click here to Support Higher Density Living - Invest in Expanding Human Consciousness

Energy Trapped in Cyber Space One of the biggest arguments brought up in the crypto debate is climate change and renewable energy. This mindset seems to be shifting though, with studies showing 55% of the Bitcoin network being powered by renewable energy. What does a green future entail for cryptocurrencies? THE KARDASHEV SCALE. We have no idea what an alien civilization would look like. Humans are evolved primates. What if an alien species is reptilian? Or more like an insect? Or a hybrid of these? Or maybe something completely unique that we couldn't even imagine. There is only one set of universal laws that every species must follow. Physics. Specifically energy. One way to measure a civilization is by its energy consumption. This is done with the Kardashev Scale. By using the Kardashev Scale, we can address some big questions about alien civilizations. Like: Fermi's Paradox. It's estimated that there are 40 billion Earth-like planets in the Milky Way that could support life. Certainly a few of these should have given rise to intelligent life. And if so, where is everyone? A recent study done by researchers at JPL and CalTech states that when a civilization finally reaches a certain point on the Kardashev Scale, it destroys itself. Which is why we haven't discovered any evidence. They're gone. And the Kardashev Scale addresses the most worrisome theory of all. If there are advanced civilizations in our universe, it's probably best if we don't make contact with them. Let's find out why.
The transcension hypothesis proposes that a universal process of evolutionary development guides all sufficiently advanced civilizations into what may be called "inner space," to a black-hole-like destination.http://www.troubledminds.org Support The Show! https://rokfin.com/creator/troubledminds https://troubledfans.com https://patreon.com/troubledminds#aliens #conspiracy #paranormalRadio Schedule Mon-Tues-Wed-Thurs 7-9pst - https://fringe.fm/iTunes - https://apple.co/2zZ4hx6Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2UgyzqMStitcher - https://bit.ly/2UfAiMXTuneIn - https://bit.ly/2FZOErSTwitter - https://bit.ly/2CYB71UFollow Algo Rhythm -- https://bit.ly/3uq7yRYFollow Apoc -- https://bit.ly/3DRCUEjFollow Ash -- https://bit.ly/3CUTe4ZFollow Daryl -- https://bit.ly/3GHyIaNFollow James -- https://bit.ly/3kSiTEYFollow Jennifer -- https://bit.ly/3bCQBK7Follow Joseph -- https://bit.ly/3pNjbzbFollow Nightstocker -- https://bit.ly/3mFGGtxRobert's Book -- https://amzn.to/3GEsFUKFollow TamBam -- https://bit.ly/3LIQkFw------------------------------------------------------------------https://bigthink.com/13-8/advanced-civilization-change-laws-physics/https://nautil.us/will-alien-life-be-recognizable-10121/https://www.tweaktown.com/news/86427/scientists-have-revealed-where-aliens-are-most-likely-to-be-found/index.htmlhttps://futurism.com/the-byte/scientists-holograms-touchhttps://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/mavericks-potential-comeback-vs-warriors-oddly-compared-alien-invasionhttps://www.smoothradio.com/artists/queen/brian-may-crop-circle-aliens/https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2022-05-25/ufo-hearing-what-are-the-chances-we-ve-been-visited-by-alienshttps://kardashev.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Alien_Raceshttps://kardashev.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Technologyhttps://futurism.com/the-kardashev-scale-type-i-ii-iii-iv-v-civilizationhttps://www.sciencefocus.com/future-technology/kardashevs-scale/https://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1964SvA.....8..217Khttps://aarohilakhera.medium.com/the-kardashev-scale-the-6-levels-of-civilization-bc30fdc670dahttps://web.archive.org/web/20181127054357/https://accelerating.org/articles/transcensionhypothesis.htmlhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0094576511003304https://www.universetoday.com/147546/beyond-fermis-paradox-xi-the-transcension-hypothesis/https://turingchurch.net/uploading-to-black-holes-the-transcension-hypothesis-af54220ffb84https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mind_uploadinghttp://www.xenology.info/Papers/Xenobiology.htmhttps://eversmarterworld.com/2016/10/16/key-assumptions-of-the-transcension-hypothesis-do-advanced-civilizations-leave-our-universe/https://www.researchgate.net/publication/256935188_The_transcension_hypothesis_Sufficiently_advanced_civilizations_invariably_leave_our_universe_and_implications_for_METI_and_SETIhttps://maiakamala.wordpress.com/2012/10/01/thoth-on-the-transcension-hypothesis/https://www.universetoday.com/147546/beyond-fermis-paradox-xi-the-transcension-hypothesis/https://veronicasicoe.com/2015/06/02/blowing-up-the-kardashev-scale-the-black-hole-alternative/

In 1964, Soviet-Russian astrophysicist Nikolai Kardashev proposed a system for classifying extraterrestrial intelligence based on the amount of energy they could harness. The system had three "Types," which included Planetary, Stellar, and Galactic Civilizations. This came to be known as the Kardashev Scale, which remains one of the most important concepts in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI).

Humanity has been expanding and advancing for as long as we have existed. It seems like we have an insatiable desire for creating new things and developing our influence as far and wide as possible. Logically, and based on some recent experience, we will eventually expand past our world and begin to colonize the cosmos. However, such a feat will require massive amounts of energy. In 1964 Nikolai Kardashev proposed a scale that measures an intelligent civilization based on the amount of energy consumption and control that the society possesses. He separated civilization into a four-part scale measuring the technological advancement of society. Eventually, his scale came to bear his name and be known as The Kardashev Scale.
This episode is the second part of our talk with Harvard Professor Avi Loeb. We discuss ― Life In The Cosmos ― an academic textbook he co-authored with Manasvi Lingam which provides an analysis of the latest scientific methodologies for detecting life beyond our planet. It's an updated version of an original book written in 1966 by astrophysicists Carl Sagan and Iosif Shklovsky. We dive into the Kardashev Scale, a theoretical model for classifying stages the development of intelligent alien civilizations based on energy consumption, and the potential of applying a modified version, based on a more indirect but proportional scale of wasted heat or entropy production, toward today's search for extraterrestrial intelligences (ETIs). Learn more about Avi's work with Breakthrough Starshot, a proposed flyby mission to our neighboring solar system Alpha Centauri, and how his recently funded Galileo Project will help to demystify Unexplained Aerial Phenomena. Join us as we survey the latest endeavors to detect alien technosignatures, and explore whether monkeys may one day compose Shakespeare's Hamlet on a typewriter. Professor Avi Loeb is the Director of the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. He received his PhD in plasma physics from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and worked as a theoretical astrophysicist at Princeton Institute for Advanced Study. Loeb is a New York Times bestselling author, chairs the Breakthrough Starshot Initiative, and founded the current Galileo Project advancing the search for extraterrestrial life. The Kardashev scale is a method of measuring a civilization's level of technological advancement, based on the total energy usage of a civilization. The scale is exponential and hypothetical and regards energy consumption on a cosmic scale. It was proposed in 1964 by Nikolai Kardashev and modified in 1973 by Carl Sagan, which is the scale we use. Here is a visual representation of the Kardashev scale and the amount of energy for each step: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale#/media/File:Consommations_énergétiques_des_trois_types_de_l'échelle_de_Kardashev.svg] Why is there a scale? It's hard to have an intelligent conversation about something if you don't have a way to think critically about it. Classification schemes is one way of creating a frame of critical thinking. You have to create criteria for the different levels. How did we get the Kardashev scale? Russian astrophysicist, Nikolai Kardashev, created the scale in a paper he published in 1964 called, “Transmission of Information by Extraterrestrial Civilizations”. The scale measures a civilization's level of technological advancement based on the amount of energy it is able to use. What is the scale? Type 1 through 3. Frequently referred to as K1 through K3. A Type I civilization, also called a planetary civilization, has the capability to use all of the energy of its planet. A technological achievement that a K1 society would likely have is weather control. An example of this in movies would be any science fiction movie that shows Earth United by one government, or close cooperation, such as the movie Interstellar and 2010 Space Odyssey. References: the movie Interstellar: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstellar_(film) Stanley Kubrick Space Odyssey: * 2001 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062622/ * 2010 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086837/ A type II civilization, also called a stellar civilization, can use and control energy at the scale of its planetary system. Technological achievements that K2 civilizations would likely have is the ability to terraform and build megastructures. An example of a near type 2 is the TV series The Expanse. Most space operas fall into this category such as any Star Trek. I wanted to place Star Wars here to but since Sith lords frequently entertain ruling the galaxy, they must be nearing K3 contrary to Star Trek, where the galaxy is still a vast place that takes lifetimes to span even with warp drive. Another delightful noir/cyberpunk book series is the Takeshi Kovacs novels by Richard K Morgan. The first of which, Altered Carbon, was made into a Netflix movie. References: The Expanse: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3230854/ Star Trek serieses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek Richard K Morgan's Takeshi Kovacks book series: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Takeshi_Kovacs A type III civilization, also called a galactic civilization, can control energy at the scale of its entire host galaxy. Movies like this do casually travel the wide reaches of the galaxy and the galaxy is as well known as any of us today see the Earth as well known and prospected by various nation states. The most famous example of this in movies would be, as I've already said, is Star Wars. More choices are Jupiter Ascending, as well as Valarian and the City of a Thousand Planets. In literature we have books like Vernor Vinges Zones of Thought, and Asimov's The Foundation. The Vinge book showcases civilizations up and down the kardashev model and so I highly recommend that to those who have a love for alien civilizations and interest in socio-economic development. Apple TV has produced and is streaming The Foundation as a multi series TV show, and it is very enjoyable and well acted, so go check it out. A feature length movie script that Hal Dace and I wrote Miss Wisenheimer and the Aliens falls into the K3 category as well but with the unique angle that despite having the ability to casually travel the galaxy like in Star Wars, there are no aliens so the film focuses on that mystery. I'll put a link to the short film version in the show notes. The short film version of the feature length movie, by the way, won an award at a Belgium film festival. As you've heard on the show, it does help to quickly categorize levels of civilizations. A common criticism is that the jump from K2 to K3, from controlling the energy of a solar system to the ability to control all the energy of all the suns of a galaxy is too big of a step. But that said, it did actually do the job when analyzing science fiction movies. Another criticism is what about beyond K3? This brings us to the next topic. Typical adds to the scale At the front of the scale, it's typical to use 0 for civilizations that are just starting out or have yet to master energy generation. At the other end of the scale, it's common to add a level 4 beings who can control or use the entire universe. Because seriously, why would a Sith stop at making only a galaxy of beings unhappy when she could put an entire universe into a bad funk? Adding level 5 brings gives us a category for those who control collections of universes, or said another way, multiple dimensions. For those who have seen Valarian, remember the extraction scene that the main character, Valarian was involved with required them to go to another dimension. And for those who have seen the Thor movies, this gives us a catagory for Asgardians. References: Miss Wisenheimer: Short film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJpyfhkfm3QFacebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MissWisenheimer/TV interview about the film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EItnd8bXhdkMiss Wisenheimer and the Aliens film page: https://www.facebook.com/MissWisenheimer Valarian: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valerian_and_the_City_of_a_Thousand_Planets Jupiter Ascending: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter_Ascending What are the dangers of advancing on the scale? There are some books that follow characters through the changes that happen to a civilization as they climb the Kardashev scale. Charles Stross' Accellerando describes a progression from K0 to K2. In Italian, accelerando means "speeding up" and is used as a tempo marking in musical notation. In Stross' novel, it refers to the accelerating rate at which humanity in general, and/or the novel's characters, head towards the technological singularity. This story focuses mostly on human culture. To the author's credit, he does all of this in one book. Accellerando: Vernor Vinges Zones of Thought novels, shows civilizations climbing to high parts of the scale, and many falling to lower parts of the scale. And like The Foundation, there is a group who is interested in helping to prevent a fall or helping to shorten the dark ages that follow after a fall. A Fire Upon the Deep is a 1992 science fiction novel by American writer Vernor Vinge. It is a space opera involving superhuman intelligences, aliens, variable physics, space battles, love, betrayal, genocide, and a communication medium resembling Usenet. A Fire Upon the Deep won the Hugo Award in 1993, sharing it with Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. This series contains a lot of wonderfully thought out and dramatic alien culture. Keyifli dinlemeler. Bölüm içerisinde bahsi geçen, medeniyetlerin kullanabildikleri enerji kaynaklarının ölçeğine göre sınıflandırılması Sovyet atronom Nikolai Kardashev tarafından 1964 yılında ortaya atılmıştır. Alright yuh sacks, Conspiracy Bot here. You voted last week and the winner was crowned. Me. But also John Titor for some reason. And the winner was picked for the prize pack, one loser named Skylar Horton. His crap is in the mail but to make him feel like less of a douche pickle for listening to this dumpster fire of a podcast I reached out and let him pick his favorite episode of all time for this week's final flashback episode. Without further ado, here is Skylar's pick, The Kardashev Scale How advanced is our civilization? Hot Pockets? Check. Cat memes? Check. Total control of our planet’s resources, weather, and energy? Well…we’ll get back to you. That’s the basic premise of the Kardashev Scale. It’s a simple test to judge a civilization’s technological advancement. The scale ranges from 0 (we’re a 0.7) to a 6 or 7 (think omnipotent beings). This week we explore where we are, where we’re (hopefully) going, and how we can get there. Plus, Conspiracy Bot gives himself an upgrade to SUPER C (he’s been playing too much NES), the neighborhood cats are back in his cross-hairs (he drank a bottle of Malört), and we talk how Pluto has gotten the shaft (#teamPluto). All of that and more on the podcast that didn’t know you in high school, but if we had we would have beat up any other podcasts that made fun of your Magic the Gathering collection – Hysteria 51. What, when, and why the James Webb? Where are we located on the "Kardashev Scale"? Where do we think we will be in the future of the human race?
In this episode Carla, Daniel and Shannon look at the Kardashev scale of civilizations, and try to alter the way we look at the term. We're often preoccupied with a very earth based view of the universe, but we're really a tiny speck. We then look at the Fermi Paradox and the Great Filter, as we wonder why we can't see other species and the issues that might imply.

In 1964, Nikolai Kardashev addressed the problem of how to classify civilizations in case we came in contact with any interstellar intelligent life. Kardashev scale is an attempt to map the progress of a civilization on a universal scale with the parameters of technological capability, and how that maps our own progress as a species. This episode, we try to understand why this scale is the closest to an objective parameter we can come to when trying to understand extraterrestrial life. Have you ever watched a science-fiction movie and thought "Why don't we have flying cars, spaceships, warp drive, laser guns, etc.?" Well, it all has to do with power, or, as Chancellor Palpatine would say, "Unlimited Power!" We discuss the near possibility of fusion energy, how it will relate us to the Kardashev Scale, and my deep love for the science fiction movie "Her." ©2020 Commoner Public Radio Network. What is the solution to the Fermi Paradox? This week on Solvable Mysteries we investigate the Fermi Paradox and the implications to life and our future, whether life exists or if we are alone -- what does it mean?Welcome to Solvable Mysteries Podcast, hosted by Juras Sim and co-hosted by Glenn Highcove. During this episode we explore the riddle of the Fermi Paradox, the question as to why, if life is so likely in the infinite universe, have we found no sign outside of Earth of that life? In this episode we review the theories having to do with potential evidence solving the Fermi Paradox, including advanced detection methods (detecting from afar via Kardashev Scale observations) and ominous solutions like the Great Filter theory. We talk of the dangers of an AI civilizational takeover and the cosmic endowment that awaits any civilization that can look at the long game and leverage technology to extend life.We hope you enjoyed the show, we greatly appreciate any feedback from our listeners, please share your thoughts in the comment section. On the podcast we discuss various mysteries/crimes and share our own perspectives and opinions, and we welcome your input on topics you find interesting and would like to see discussed. Our topics ranges from the grisly (serial killers, spree killings) to the mysterious (UFO’s, ghosts, the paranormal, cryptobiology), and everything in-between as we take a look at the deep issues and interesting clues in every topic we cover. Please Subscribe to our YouTube channel to make sure you don't miss new episodes, we upload on a weekly basis.

What do the Kardashev Scale, Deiter Rams, Nipsey Hussle, and C# together? Today’s guest: Iddris Sandu. At 23, the Ghanaian-born, Compton-raised architectural technologist has designed, programmed and built critical tech for the world’s corporate giants (Google, Boeing) and top apps and services (Uber, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and Facebook). He engineered the world’s first smartstore with the late Nipsey Hussle (rest in power), and he’s the founder and owner of spatialLABS, EthosDNA, and Halt, not to mention a rising music video director and artist. Over Part 1 and 2 of Iddris’ interview, we’ll use hip hop to break down computer programming and vertical integration, nature to understand technology and design, and engineering hacks that we can apply to our own lives. He’ll offer predictions for the future of digitalization and advice for self- and public education, and he’ll help us ditch the excuses that hold us back. Don’t worry, you’ll fall down the best rabbithole after this. We explore the Fermi Paradox, Kardashev Scale, and The Great Filter to discuss the question of are we alone in the universe? If we're not do we even have the ability, and mental capacity, to understand that answer? Could we communicate with other intelligent life? Join us as host Nicholas Lawrence Carter and co-host Corey Batts discuss these topics. The goal is objective speculation, and to expand our knowledge.

This episode is part 2 of the series I am doing at the moment. The intent is to break down what the Kardashev Scale and the Drake Equation really are and what it can mean for us. We will explore the possibilities of different levels of civilization and explore the possibilities of life emerging on another world in our very own galaxy. I also threw in some recent news and a follow up from a previous podcast. I highly recommend that you listen to this with headphones on to get the full effect. Our cosmic neighborhood is way more diverse than most of us probably previously thought. The Kardashev Scale is discussed. A scale which breaks down the development stages of civilizations from planetary to galactic and all the way up to universal based entirely on energy consumption capabilities.Story:In light of the recent discovery that there is life at Alpha Centuri, the clone duo head back to NASA headquarters to learn whether it's possible to establish a mission there with a team of subhumans. While waiting for their scheduled meeting the duo sets up their equipment and begin to break down the Kardashev Scale in which civilizations are listed according to their power consumption and capacity with hopes of identifying where the aliens at Alpha Centuri fall.Remember to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or anywhere you listen to podcasts to help us get noticed. We'll read our favorites Apple Podcast reviews on the show! In this episode, I explain the Kardashev Scale of measuring civilizations.
Scaling advanced civilizations by how much power they could harness and use. What could those civilizations do, and how would they gather so much energy?
How advanced is our civilization? All of that and more on the podcast that didn’t know you in high school, but if we had we would have beat up any other podcasts that made fun of your Magic the Gathering collection – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant – Raymond Walden IVBooks:Evolving the Alien: The Science of Extraterrestrial Life by Jack Cohen and Ian StewartParallel Worlds: A Journey Through Creation, Higher Dimensions, and the Future of the Cosmos by Michio KakuWizards, Aliens, and Starships by Charles L. This episode contains: Devon went to a Jurassic Quest where he saw life sized dinosaurs. He has positive things to say about it. We also talk about how your knowledge of dinosaurs drops after the age of 4. We then have a brief discussion of the new JP movies of course. Devon has been living with the effects of the CA fires as the air has been smoked filled for a week+. The air quality in the bay area is the worst in the world at the time of this recording. People are Idiots: Steven tells us about current conspiracy theories about the CA fires. We talk about the nature of conspiracy theories and why their popular. As for the fires, some people believe that the government used “directed energy weapons” (DEWs) to start the fires intentionally. It’s not clear why they would do this but it supposedly has something to do with FEMA and the UN. Devon also adds some info about conspiracies theories about mass shootings. https://earther.gizmodo.com/californias-wildfires-have-spawned-a-truly-wild-new-con-1830418656 The Light of The Stars: Devon read Light of The Stars: Alien Worlds and the Fate of the Earth by Adam Frank. The book looks at what we know about planetary science and climate to figure out the possibility of their being other civilizations in the universe. There is also a good helping of how we are changing our climate and how that could destroy us. There is discussions of the Drake Equation, Fermi Paradox, Kardashev Scale, history of our discovery of climate science regarding Earth and other planets in our solar system, and a lot more in the book. Check it out on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Light-Stars-Alien-Worlds-Earth/dp/0393609014 https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/adam-frank/light-of-the-stars/ http://www.thespacereview.com/article/3522/1 Read Dead Redemption II: With the little extra time we have we discuss the non-science/non-sci fi game. We’ve both been playing the game and our enjoying it. Devon also gives us an update on the two part South Park episode dealing with Man-Bear-Pig (climate change) and Read Dead. Spoiler: people will decide that fixing the climate isn’t worth giving up our modern comforts, regardless of the consequences.
