L&J // This week Lulu and Jana are having an open and fluid conversation about some topics that have been coming up for them lately. They chat about mental and physical health in regards to trauma and emotions, modern day relationship expectations, habits, the importance of taking care of the nervous system, and how trauma is stored in the body. L&J both consider themselves to be highly sensitive people which is something that neither of them used to identify with, but as they've gotten older and watched themselves experience their triggers and work through their trauma they have both realized that they do have strong emotions and hyper vigilant nervous systems which both need to be protected and prioritized in their day to day lives as well as in relationship. L&J discuss why the "burnout" culture and people believing that everything needs to be comfortable is actually creating a lot of self entitlement and laziness because goals, growth and hard work are actually often really uncomfortable situations and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. L&J are also reviewing the book Atomic Habits by James Clear, which opened their eyes to a lot of ways they could be doing things differently in their lives. We also talk about:Being okay with discomfort on your journey of achieving your goalsHow to create habits that feel good for youHow to be more productiveSociety not wanting to work for the things they really want Choosing toxic partners due to childhood traumaWhy an unanswered text is modern day silent treatment Not needing to fit into a box when it comes to marriage and kidsBreaking negative feedback loopsJoin our Insta: CommunityLeave us a Rating and Review: Apple PodcastsStay in touch with your Hosts: Jana & LuluMentioned in episode:Jana's Breathwork Practitioner BlytheAtomic Habits by James ClearSoundcloud Audiobook link
THE INTERVIEW // We are back! L & J are having a deeply important conversation with Amy Koppelman writer and director of A Mouthful Of Air starring Amanda Seyfried and Finn Whitrock. A Mouthful of Air, based on Amy's critically acclaimed 2003 novel of the same name, the story follows Julie's struggle with postpartum depression and with it a suicide attempt, Julies husband and the people in her life attempt to help her but quickly realize that they can't relate to what Julie is going through because they are not living her experience. Postpartum depression is a topic that few want to tackle and bring up, it is an infinitely complex, and can present itself out of nowhere in many women. It's not an easy story but it's an important and heartbreakingly beautiful novel and film.We also talk about..The stigma surrounding asking for helpThe conditioning that women are taught to "just smile" and be "pretty" and "proper" and how that is leading to women being afraid to allow themselves to ask for supportThe pressure that many mothers feel to hold their entire family together while they are simultaneously unraveling themselvesThe shame that women feel surrounding motherhood, and the mental health challenges that come with itThe struggle that women face in wanting to trust men but being conditioned to always protect themselves, to walk in pairs, to carry pepper spray, to cross the street, to guard their drinksWhy society needs to stop making excuses for the actions of menHow childhood trauma gets carried into our adult lives and how to break the trauma cycle and loop for our own childrenA Mouthful of Air The FilmAmy's InstagramJoin our Insta: CommunityLeave us a Rating and Review: Apple PodcastsStay in touch with your Hosts: Jana & LuluResources:Postpartum Support SocietyCrisis Centre and Suicide Prevention BCCrisis Services CanadaCanada Suicide Prevention Hotline: 833-456-4566USA National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 1-800-273-8255
A SOLO // God placed on Jana's heart to use her platforms to speak about her experience with abortion, abusive relationship, sexual assault, miscarriage + the mental, emotional, physical trauma that comes with it. She shares her view on abortion being a hot button political issue of our time, she sugarcoats nothing; as the topic is currently all over social media/the news due to the abortion law that just took effect in the state of Texas. But this is also her testimony because God's hand is not always immediately obvious in our lives, with trials we easily wonder “why did this happen?”. Jana realized that God was preparing her for such a time as this + He uses every circumstance for good. This topic is huge, controversial af, triggering, which is why Jana combines her own experience with stats, resources + all types of perspectives to keep the chat fluid, and flexible.Jana also talks about..shame, guilt, trauma, and grief related to getting an abortionabusive relationshipsmolar pregnancy + miscarriageher abortion clinic experiencereproductive rights + abortion ratesreversing roe + Texas abortion lawCanada's abortion law stats + history how you can help support women's choicehow God brought her out of this challenging seasonResources:If you need immediate crisis support, counselling and justice assistance CALL 604-255-6344. A SOLO // On this week's ep you get Lulu all to yourself in a very reflective, very insightful birthday episode. The last year has been incredibly eye opening and transformational for Lulu in every way possible, and if you asked her if she recognizes the woman she was at this time last year, she would say no. Lulu shares that one year ago she was barely even a small fraction of who she is now, she was still navigating life after leaving a long term toxic relationship and not knowing what her adult life was without the plan she had in her head for all those years, and she was planning on moving to Australia as a way to run away from the life that she didn't recognize and to a new place where she could completely start over. At this time last year Lulu had no relationship with her parents due to their substance abuse, she as unhappy in her coaching business but ignoring her internal voice and pushing through out of obligation and shame, and she was resisting entering into a relationship with her now boyfriend because she was truly terrified to let anyone in. If you asked Lulu about how she feels about her life today she would say that she is the happiest she has ever been, so much has shifted in the last year that it is truly hard to absorb sometimes, an entire career change, embracing a relationship, moving in with and celebrating 1 year of dating the love of her life, healing her relationship with her mom, and so much deep, painful and expansive work. Lulu also talks about...How to let go of the idea that your life should be lived on a timelineHow to differentiate between real heartbreak and allowing something surface level to mask something deeperMaking a list of your accomplishments every yearLetting yourself be proud of where you are and what you've been throughManifesting a partner and jobStruggling with comparison and moving away from thatHow the simple act of practicing gratitude and presence will shift your entire lifeLetting yourself just beWhat Lulu's priorities are now and how they have shifted in so many areas of her lifeHow Lulu will be approaching social media moving forward13 lessons that Lulu has learned in the last yearResources:Learn more: www.lulugodin.comInstagram: @lulugodinBuy Lulu's Tuning Into Your Cycle E-BookListen to last year's Bday EpJoin our Insta: CommunityLeave us a Rating and Review: Apple PodcastsStay in touch with your Hosts: Jana & Lulu

A SOLO & BONUS // You're hanging out with your host Jana today. She has reached a point in her life where she doesn't feel pressured to be in a relationship, can be an "established" woman, independently, whole as she is, making bold choices and setting gentle, but firm boundaries when it comes to dating, friendships and business. After another break up just before Christmas she has realized what needs to change in her dating life, and what she wants to focus on when the time is right for a next relationship. Her January intention and theme is to honour herself by being mindful of what and who she allows access to her energy. She also speaks on her transition from New Age to Jesus and how her faith journey has transformed her life. Other talking points : Marriage is not a bandaid for a relationship that isn't working, there is no shame in a called off wedding, generational pressures and societal conditioning when it comes to marriage and starting a family, we are not our parents, how to speak and keep boundaries in place, opening up to another relationship after a break up, exciting new beginnings, self exploration prompts, having an online presence and how it affects your private life, sleep paralysis, spiritual warfare and how God's grace has helped Jana's mental and physical health.
A SOLO // On this weeks ep you have Lulu all to yourself. L is sharing what she is currently working through in her personal life as well as in her business. Her themes for 2021 are; radical self honesty, authenticity and honouring where she's at without any guilt or shame and that is exactly what she's sharing with you. Over the last couple of months Lulu has realized that certain areas of her life and her business just weren't lighting her up the way that they used to so she has made the incredibly challenging but conscious decision to remove those things from her bizz & life and she is sharing exactly what those are on today's episode. Coming to terms with these things brought up feelings of failure and low self worth and ALOT of tears, L is sharing how she has been navigating those feelings as well as how she is allowing herself to be uncomfortable and scared but doing it anyways. Lulu is also opening up about what she has been going through when it comes to her health and ongoing hormone journey, and how her main priority right now is to lower her stress and in order to do so she has to take her foot off the gas and lower the pressure to be constantly doing, for the first time ever really, and honouring where she is at from day to day and giving herself what she needs. She is also answering a few health and hormone related questions and touching on how to find a naturopath that you align with and advocating for your health. ☁️
THE INTERVIEW // On this weeks ep L & J are chatting with @krystalpeach who is currently in school to become a registered therapeutic counsellor. Krystal will specialize in sexual abuse and trauma as well as disordered eating, her focus is on female empowerment, and grief counselling. The women open up about their personal journeys with self love and body neutrality, what they do to practice kindness to themselves and being in their bodies and their tips on getting to a place of high self worth. They also touch on the importance of mental health for both men and women and what Krystal wishes more people understood about mental health and therapy. Other talking points include; how to ease into the new year and not let the fact that everyone is setting New Years resolutions consume you, how to be at peace in your body and not constantly feel the need to change yourself, online dating, texting etiquette, f**kboys, anxiety, self esteem and Krystals experience with discrimination and racism being a strong woman of colour.
L & J // On this weeks episode the girls are discussing the new Netflix series Bridgerton, a show produced by Shonda Rhimes, known as the executive producer of Grey's Anatomy, that follows two elite families as they debut their children in London society, preparing them to find a suitable partner for marriage. Even-though it's set in the 19th century, it still relates to our modern society, which is why L&J are opening up the gender equality conversation. Women are still being shamed based on the amount of sexual partners they have but men are cheered on, and the idea that women need to be rescued/taken care of by men because they are the weaker gender. It is important to give women space and the opportunity to become strong and independent. As well as deconditioning all that we've been taught about relationships and what we consume that further ingrains certain narratives. Stories that keep women and men stuck in boxes, need to be let go and rewritten
L & J // Well well well if it isn't *finally* the end of 2020, we've been waiting for you. On this weeks episode the girls wanted to give you the wrap up that this year (and all of you) deserve, Lulu and Jana are sharing some major life updates and then they are taking you through the most transformational, educational and entertaining episodes of the year. This year has been WILD to say the least and the growth and support that the pod has experienced has been nothing short of incredible. L & J wanted to thank you for your continued support this year, through all the ups and downs and shifts, YOU have been a constant and for that they are so grateful. Until next year. xx L & J
L&J // This week the girls wanted to share the top 20 lessons that they have learned in 2020. It has been a WILD ride to say the least! This year has been incredibly eye opening and has taught so many people what is truly important to them and for Lulu and Jana it's no different, the girls feel like this year has expanded them in ways that they couldn't have imagined. For Jana, some of her realizations this year are that she needs to voice when her feelings are hurt, that her actual capacity for everything that is in her life is actually not endless, that authenticity is her most valued trait in herself and others, and that bras are more like a suggestion that she doesn't want to follow (LOL). In Lulu's life, she learned how to say no to things and honour her energy and the importance of that for her, that in life, love and career, quality should always come before quantity, how much she values sweatsuits as a trend (iykyk), and that the only way out is through, letting yourself experience, feel and move through things
L&J // On this weeks ep Lulu & Jana are diving into topics that you have requested : orthorexia, fitness obsession, disordered eating and intermittent fasting
L & J // On this weeks episode Lulu and Jana are talking about comparison which has been a reocurring theme for both of them in their professional and personal lives, as well as for their clients over the last few months. The girls know first hand how easy it is to fall into comparison, especially with social media making the lives of others so accessible, but they both believe that it truly is the thief of all happiness. L & J discuss why comparison is self sabotage and ultimately self destruction, how procrastination and distraction is a common coping mechanism for a lot of people, and how to pivot and readjust when comparison does creep in
Something that Lulu and Jana are very passionate about is advocating for your own body, in every way possible. L&J have both experienced hormonal imbalances and repercussions due to years of taking hormonal birth control after being prescribed at a young age like so many women, and coming off of it. In this episode the women are discussing how the responsibility of monitoring fertility and avoiding accidental pregnancy *almost* always falls on the woman, the assumptions men make surrounding women being on some form of contraceptive as well as the entitlement and expectations men have when it comes to their partner using birth control as a preventative measure because they would rather have condom-less sex, to enjoy themselves while being seemingly okay with us women risking our health by changing our biochemistry for pleasure, no huneyyy.
