In this excellent episode, Nancy and Jose are joined in the studio by Sitara Sethi, the CEO of the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities. Starting in 1986, the Foundation for Developmental Disabilities has always worked towards helping those with developmental disabilities. In the past 10 years, they have shifted more towards a nonprofit model to help grow services for those with developmental disabilities. What exactly is a developmental disability? Sitara defines it as any physical or intellectual disability that affects the development of a person starting from birth or during childhood. The FDD aims to help this community by giving out funding (grants) to organizations and serving the regional center for developmental disabilities. These services are anything from rent aid, sports leagues, family activities and support programs, employment help, and more. Some of the biggest gaps that Sitara has seen since beginning her work with the foundation are access to services and housing. Many people in San Diego are living with developmental disabilities and struggle to be able to secure and afford housing that accommodates their needs. They are working to actively identify and aid those with disabilities who are struggling with these situations. An excellent episode on filling gaps in the community with Sitara Sethi. If eating right and working out are all it takes to live a healthy lifestyle, then why do so many people continue to suffer and not feel their best? With there being so may opinions about health and fitness out there on social media, it can be difficult to discern what to pay attention to. While the information regarding the “right” diet might seem overwhelming, it is actually a lot more simple than we think. It all comes down to one key component of our health: the gut. Today's guest is here to tell us all about why it is so crucial to learn about how our gut impacts every area of our lives including hormones, and even our mental health.Rachel Scheer is a Functional Medicine Nutritionist who received her degree from Baylor University in Nutrition Science and Dietetics and became certified in functional medicine through the Kalish Institute. She began her journey as a nutritionist in bodybuilding and athletic performance, however, a couple of years into her practice she began to suffer from severe gastrointestinal dysfunction and was given the diagnosis of IBS. After countless doctor visits, thousands of dollars, and the suggestion to remove her large intestine, Rachel knew there had to be a better way. By focusing on her gut health as the root cause of her health issues, she was able to heal herself and is incredibly passionate about educating and helping others realize the huge role our gut plays in our overall health. Rachel founded her virtual functional medicine nutrition practice to help others heal and live a life of abundance. In this episode, Rachel shares her “why” that drives her forward every day. Instead of letting her past define her and continue the dysfunction she was raised in, she used it as fuel to propel her on her mission of making the world a better place by educating others on what it takes to truly feel their best. We live in a society that does not put nearly enough emphasis on what it takes to be truly healthy and feel great. As Rachel says, we have a health industry that doesn't pay attention to food, and a food industry that doesn't pay attention to health. Mental issues are at an all-time high, and we are a very medicated and unhealthy society. Tune in to hear Rachel's passion and explanation of why we need to take a root cause approach and take a look into what is going in our gut instead of trying to put bandaids on all our symptoms. Key highlights:Why Rachel chose to focus on the gutWhat it means to take a “root cause” approachRachel's story of dealing with anxiety, hair loss, major bloating, and being given the diagnosis of IBS and a bunch of medication that didn't helpThe problem with Western medicine not addressing the root cause and just treating symptomsMicrobes in our gut control everything: mental health, hormones, skin, etc.Why is gut health important? What is dysbiosis? How bacteria in our body affects our hormonesWhat about food sensitivities? What is the most optimal diet? What Rachel's diet looks like on a daily basisRachel's thoughts on fastingWhat Rachel believes has lead to her successAbundance vs. wealthConnect with Rachel Scheer:Website: rachelscheer.comInstagram: @rachelscheer | @rachelscheernutritionRachel's Functional Wellness Coaching: rachelscheer.com/functional-wellness-coaching/Connect with Eric:Be sure to connect with me in the Lead Sell Grow - The Human Experience Mastermind Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/leadsellgrow/Pick up your copy of B2B Sales Secrets HereLearn more about our services: www.TheGoalGuide.comImprove your sales and stay connected – Free Gifts Here https://shor.by/TheGoalGuide

She knows a lot about testosterone and women's sexual health because she uses it in her practice every day. I first came across Brooke when she presented her research and experience during the North American Menopause Society 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting, and then spoke to her again in 2022 for an update on advances in treatment and guidance. Although Brooke uses a range of hormones to help women get back to their full sexual function and desire in peri/menopause, our conversation focuses on testosterone because it is so often overlooked. We talked all about why testosterone can be so effective for a range of symptoms, why the research is catching up to practice, and how women can talk to their doctors about it. Highlights: Why testosterone is just as important in womenWhat role it playsHow it's prescribed and used and what forms it comes inWhat it can helpThe range of sexual issues connected to perimenopause that women aren't always made aware of What the research says The importance of testingHow the hormone receptor system works Estrogen and testosterone used togetherRisks and side effects Testosterone pellets – and why some people use themThe International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health, ISSWSHWhy your sexual enjoyment is worth the time and effort  Where to find Brooke: IG: @brookefaught_sexmedWeb: WishNashville.comJoin the Hotflash Inc perimenoposse: Web: hotflashinc.comTikTok: @hotflashincInstagram: @hotflashincTwitter: @hotflashinc Episode website: Hotflashinc See hotflashinc.com/privacy-policy for privacy information

Episode 17 is all about Manifesting Your Dream Business with Leah BosworthI'm super excited about this interview because I've been wanting to bring you Manifestation Success Stories – case studies of normal people that we can all relate to who have manifested their dream businesses, relationships and/or life. Why? Because one of the quickest ways to manifest is to see and hear examples of manifestation – it expands what we think is possible for ourselves into a KNOWING that we can do it too. Leah Bosworth is our first case study and I chose her not only b/c she manifested her dream yoga studio in record time after attending my Soul Craft Retreat in Bali (fomerly known as Create a Life You Love Retreats), but also because of how she pivoted during COVID, and then the manifestation her business morphed into. So a little background – Leah is the founder and owner of Ironwood Yoga Studios and Ironwood Mills. She began studying yoga in 1997 while pursuing her acting career in NYC.In 2005, wanting to escape the harsh winters of NY, Leah followed her intuition and moved to the warm, arid desert of Pheonix, Arizona where she decided to focus on her passion — teaching. Little did she know she would become the owner of not only a yoga studio but also a woodworking company with her life partner Scott Mills. In less than five years she built two six figure companies simultaneously. At the beginning of the pandemic she pivoted to live streaming classes and filmed over 500 classes in four months. Ironwood Mills continued to stay busy so she turned her attention to growing the woodworking business. She is now bridging the two entities with her new program Yoga for Dirty Dummies. Yoga for blue collar workers or anyone who feels like they wouldn't be caught dead in a yoga class ;-)What we cover:The #1 way to manifest quickly Why our childhood gives us so many answersWhat meditation really doesThe important of making decisons, even when it's hardWhy you don't have to know HOWFollowing your intuition, especially when it doesn't make senseBeing ok with asking for helpThe power wayshowersLeah's interview is such a fun story of her manifestation journey and is filled with so many easy and doable tips and strategies – you'll be able to see yourself in her – and replicate her mindset and action steps to achieve your own dreams. A Journey through the Books of Luke
Wonderful Counselor

A Journey through the Books of Luke

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 19, 2022 33:26

IntroductionI love the names of Jesus in the Bible.  This prophecy in Isaiah 9:6 is a direct exposition of who the Messiah will be. The focus is naturally an encouraging sign to those who are struggling, and it would lift up the spirits of those who are depressed. It raises our eyes, our vision of a great deliverer and inspires hope. Just saying the names of the coming One is uplifting!Text again: Isaiah 9:1-2, 6-7My personal question of this passage is: Why is counselor listed first? What is so special about counselors? It surely would not have been my first choice.  Perhaps: Mighty God! Overcomer, Deliverer, Savior, Comforter, but Counselor? We often associate counselors with “shrinks”, or strange people who make lots of money off of others misfortunes. It carries a stigma, as if I couldn't manage my own affairs. There's a fear that others will look down on me if I have to visit a therapist.I see two different kinds of counselors:The first one is for my personal life. Our daughter Hannah, who did very well in Psychology - a course if barely passed in college, is a certified counselor for people who have needs in their lives.A counselor is not responsible for changing your life. But gives you the insight, education, and tools to enable you to manage or overcome anxiety, come off drugs, or change your attitudes with a goal of motivating you to change. A modern example, though not necessarily a good one is social media. The second one has to do with direction and comprehension in work or endeavors. A modern example is the use of YouTube. What does a counselor do? Helps to see the big picture, helps to understand a situation, helps to lay out options with their consequences. Then helps work out the practical steps to achieve goals.  My need exposed when we started a missions agency in Germany.  I had ideas, but no way of knowing how to go about it. I need a lawyer, other leaders who had accomplished something in missions that I respected, pointers in the right direction.  How do you start an agency, what do you need to focus on?What do you need to get to and manage 100 missionaries? How do you train and release those among the focus people group to multiply among themselves?Helpful counselors bring clarity to work, purpose, values, vision, direction, methods, and goals.  The amazing thing about Jesus is that he is the best counselor for both personal and work matters. He guides us through the questions, not just of religion, but of all aspects of life! Does God have a specific calling for you? A specific purpose? For the church? For the community?  He helps us answer such questions and then helps us both individually and as a church to move forward together – and supplies us with all those who can counsel us effectively.  We all gain a lot through an abundance of counselors. Our resistance to getting help – can have personal and eternal consequences.Denial of problem.  PrideDon't want to changeAfraid if changeStigma attached to getting helpWork time and cost associated with change. Unwillingness to pay the cost leads to no change. Our desperation leads to acceptance for helpThe help Jesus offersFor who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? Romans11:34 first there is not Counselor above God!Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy. Proverbs:  12:20 know who your counselors are!Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season, And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prospers.” Psalms1:1-3 first counsel comes from God's Word.  It is the manufacturers handbook!  If you don't understand something, ask the manufacturer.  He has a variety of helpers who can assist you as well!John 14:16 HS is the Counselor! “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate (helper, comforter, counselor) to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” John14:16-17our own personal counselor!Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed. Proverbs 15:22 work related Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in an abundance of counselors there is victory. Proverbs11:14 GuidanceThen I will restore your judges as at first, And your counselors as at the beginning; After that you will be called the city of righteousness, A faithful city.”” Isaiah1:26 restoration in times of uncertainty and confusion!“A wise person will hear and increase in learning, And a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel,” Proverbs1:5 personal counselThrough overconfidence comes nothing but strife, But wisdom is with those who receive counsel.” Proverbs13:10 personal counsel “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians10:13 personal counsel.  What is the wise counsel of Jesus?“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”” Matthew4:17Our role in that: but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles foolishness, but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.” 1 Corinthians1:23-24Why wonderful? Counselors can be good, or helpful, but my daughter was stumped when asked if counselors were ever called wonderful. But Jesus is called the wonderful counselor. Why?Because it is all encompassing.  His counsel is full of wonder! It is wise, just, righteous, fulfilling, amazing, full of understanding, logical, all encompassing, pure, clear, uplifting, and life changing! He doesn't just motivate you towards change, he gives you the change by installing his counselor into your life! He gives you the power to change by giving you new life. He counsel is unique in being wonderful! Our acceptance of the offer of new life leads to personal growth in every area of our being. Do you need to accept his counsel today?

“I begin with the name of God, Most Gracious, Most MercifulAll praise is to God, Lord of all the worldsMost Gracious, Most MercifulMaster of the Day of JudgmentYou Alone do we worship and You Alone do we ask for helpGuide us to the straight pathThe Path of those on whom You bestowed Your bountiesNot the path of those who incurred Your wrath or those who went astray.” (Quran 1:1-7)Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, told us, that this chapter in the Quran is unlike any other. Nothing like it was revealed in any previous scripture. When one recites this chapter sincerely they would be professing their belief as a true Muslim. All praise is to GodWhen you state that all praise is due to God alone, you are in fact acknowledging that only He has all the attributes of perfection and that only He is the bestower of all the bounties that any of His creation enjoys.  And since gratefulness is the essence of worship, you are also acknowledging that He is the only one who deserves to be worshipped.Lord of all the worldsThe Arabic word for Lord, Rubb, conveys a number of meanings that are not accurately captured by the English word Lord. It means that He is the one who owns, who creates, who sustains and who looks after all that exists.  The only relationship between Him and all creation is that He is the creator of all that exists.  He cannot therefore be the father of anyone in any real sense! To say that He is the Creator and yet the father of some of His creation is a contradiction in terms.  You don't create your child, you beget him.  It is because of this that the Quran keeps reminding those who claim that God has children (the Arabs who used to say that the angels are the daughters of God, the Christians who say that Jesus is the son of God, and a Jewish sect who used to believe that Ezra is the son of God) that God is the Creator and Owner of everything.    Most Gracious, Most MercifulThe two Arabic words, Rahman and Raheem, for which these English phrases stand, are two intensive forms of a root word which conveys the meaning of mercy.  Rahman is more intensive than Raheem, and refers to God's all-encompassing mercy, His mercy to all His creation in this life and the life to come.  Raheem refers to His special mercy to the faithful.  No created being can therefore be Rahman, but created beings can be described as Raheem in a limited and special sense of the word. Master of the Day of JudgmentGod is the Master of all days and all things, but while some people can have some limited mastership or even falsely claim to have it, no one can be, or claim to be master in any sense on the Day of Reckoning.  On that Day God will ask all of His creation: “To whom is sovereignty today?” And the answer will be “To God, the One who holds absolute sway over all that exists”.  This reminds us of the fact that this world is only a transient station on the road to the final abode where we shall either be rewarded or punished for what we do here. You Alone do we worship and You Alone do we ask for helpThe foregoing verses were like an introduction to this one.  It is as if you are saying: because we acknowledge the fact that all praise is to You, that You are the Lord of all the worlds, that You are Most Gracious and Most Merciful, and that You Alone are the Master of the Day of Judgment, we hereby declare that we worship none but You and seek help from none except You.   This verse emphasizes the fact that what is important is not only that You worship God, but that you worship none besides Him, because none except Him deserves to be worshipped.  Worship in the broader sense of the word includes that you obey none but Him in any absolute sense, love no one as or more than you love Him and pray to no one except Him. It also includes that you seek help from none but God; this doesn't mean that you don't extend or accept any help from any of God's created beings in matters in which they have the power to help.  It only means that you believe that even when you give or receive such help that it is ultimately coming from God because nothing in this world happens without His will and power.  So it is from Him alone that you are ultimately turning for help, and it is on Him that you ultimately and absolutely depend. Guide us to the Straight pathHaving acknowledged all those truths about God, and having declared to Him that it is He Alone that we worship and ask for help, we now go on to ask Him to grant us the thing that we need most: knowing and taking the shortest path that leads to Him.  Having known who God is we are convinced that such guidance must come from Him, that it must be available to all who want to follow it, and that there must be no doubt about the fact that it is from Him.  That guidance, we know, is no where to be found in any complete way except in God's words, the words that He revealed to His chosen Prophets like Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, may God praise them all.  But we also know for sure that none of the books that contain that guidance is now at our disposal except one - the Quran.  It is to this Divine book that we must turn for a detailed description of the Straight Path that leads to our Lord.  This path is an absolute path that was given to each Prophet and Messenger of God and it does not change over the passage of time. The Path of those on whom You bestowed Your bountiesThe straight path described in the Quran is not a theoretical path; it is an actual path that some people before us have taken.  As Muslims, we believe every Prophet and Messenger of God preached the belief in the Oneness of God and that all worship was to be dedicated to Him alone. Not the path of those who incurred Your wrath or those who went astrayJust as the Straight Path is described above in a positive way, the paths of those who deviated from it are described in a negative manner. We always ask our Lord to keep us away from the paths taken by two kinds of deviant people: those who knew the truth about religion and yet refused to act according to it, and there brought upon themselves the wrath of God. The second group of people were those who made their religion suit their whims and desires and are thus went astray.  The Quran tells us in some detail about their main deviations, among the greatest of which is that they have no great respect for God or His words: they ascribe to Him imperfect, even insulting attributes; they distort His words at will to make them suit their own wishes or preferences and they commit immoralities in the name of religion. By Dr. Jaafar Sheikh Idris (© 2010 IslamReligion.com)Copyright © 2006 - 2021 IslamReligion.com. 015. When it comes to running and managing my business, I'm the first person to admit that I would prefer to do everything myself, at all times. Not that I want to do all that work, I'm just very particular about how I want things done. But there just aren't enough hours in my day, and I don't want to spend all of my hours on my computer. If you want to run a successful online business, at some point, you're going to need to hire help. But how do you know when you've reached that point? In this episode, I'm sharing our experiences with hiring our first team member, including how we determined it was time to hire some help, and what we wish we had done differently. Alex and I never set out to be people managers, but as our business grew, things started to fall off our plates--and that translated to lost revenue. There's a certain point in pretty much every company's growth where it actually becomes more profitable to hire help. But even before you reach that point, it's important to think about your other resources--specifically, your time. Y'all, you can make more money, but you can't really make more time. However, you can save time, or free up time, when you outsource tasks that don't really need you in them. We've learned a lot (and personally, I'm still learning some important things) about when to hire out some of your tasks, and how to empower the people you hire.I'm sharing those lessons with you in this episode so you can hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls we made in the beginning.
