What is triggering me? What's hurting me? In conclusion, I try to delve into that subconscious a little bit more and see what's brought up in me that is making me react the way I'm reacting. Therefore, every time I get upset that way and also the joyful moments, I think I blow them up even bigger than they already are. Similarly, I see them as such precious jewels, I make them louder in my life than the hard times in the struggles. So Thoughts on Breathing Breathing is very important. Yoga taught me how to breathe properly, it brings you into your body. So it is very important to be grounded in your body for the fight/flight and for anxiety, to bring yourself back to the present moment and nurture yourself. Chakra WISDOM: Your Saharara Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 84   Welcome to this sacred journey into the chakras. Each of the seven major chakras that we explore together in this series, influence and govern accompanying areas of the body as well as emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual states that impact our path into the self.   The seventh chakra is our connection to our spiritual nature and our capacity to allow spirituality to guide us and to become an integral part of our physical lives. While our energy system as a whole is animated by our soul consciousness, the seventh chakra is directly aligned to seek an intimate relationship with the Divine. It is the chakra of prayer.   It is also the holding place (a state of inner grace) for the energy we amass through kind thoughts and actions, and through acts of faith and prayer. Our Sahasrara Chakra enables us to gain an intensity of internal awareness through meditation and prayer with infinite consciousness.   In your Sahasrara Chakra, you're suddenly able to be free of the constraints of your human brain (what I would call your thoughts, and the stories that you tell yourself and believe), and instead, to immerse yourself in the truth as you transcend and have a connection with the divine source. At this point in your spiritual awakening and development, you are called upon to rededicate your life to what you feel most important: to do what you love; to live in peace and harmony and to practice and teach this by example, to heal, to your spiritual growth and the spiritual growth of others. Take a moment now to think about why you are here and what you are dedicated to.     Here, as with the other episodes in this 7-part series, I take lead from the work of experts, one of whom is Carolyn Myss. She is a medical intuitive and one of my longtime favorite authors. Her book: ‘Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing' is a beautiful read of the chakra system and from where I directly quote and reference much of the teachings for the third chakra; our focus of this episode.     Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.

It was a wake-up call, and it was also an invitation to look at her story and find out the real reason for her afflictions. She was abandoned at age 3, and her life wouldn't get any better in the forthcoming years. She experienced all kinds of abuse, from physical to sexual, mental, and even spiritual. It seemed that every person in her life was there to abuse her; friends, lovers, husbands, bosses, and above them all, herself. She began a personal recovery journey, fighting against several addictions, and most importantly, she needed to stop blaming everyone but her for her suffering. Brenda Reiss is a Forgiveness Coach and CEO of Brenda Reiss Coaching. Brenda is the author of two books and the host of the upcoming podcast, Liberate Your Heart. She helps others to be masters of their own lives and move beyond their scars and challenges, no matter how tough they are. Brenda found in forgiveness the ability to assist others in stepping into their own power, let go of their baggage, and move past their most ardent hurdles. In this episode, we had a heart-touching conversation about Brenda's journey, her healing process, and her leap of fate towards entrepreneurship. Brenda demystified forgiveness and put some clarity on why most people are reluctant to forgive. We talked about acceptance and forgiveness, the arduous journey of forgiving ourselves, and what happens when we look at life as a mirror. Brenda also shared some powerful exercises to learn to forgive ourselves, and finally, she explained her 5 steps journey to forgiveness. Chakra WISDOM: Your Anja Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 82   Welcome to this sacred journey into the chakras. Each of the seven major chakras that we explore together in this series, influence and govern accompanying areas of the body as well as emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual states that impact our path into the self.   The chakras are vertically aligned, running from the base of the spine to the crown of the head. At each stage we gain a more refined understanding of personal and spiritual power. Each chakra represents a spiritual life-lesson or challenge common to all human beings. Mastering the lessons inherent in each chakra, we gain wisdom, empowerment and self-knowledge that becomes integrated into our spirit, advancing us along our path towards spiritual consciousness. The sixth chakra involves our mental and reasoning abilities, and our psychological skill at evaluating our beliefs and attitudes. Often referred to as the third eye or mind's eye, the Anja or brow chakra is the command center for your subtle body. Located just above and between your eyebrows, this chakra resonates to the energies of our psyches, our conscious and unconscious psychological forces.   Within Eastern spiritual literature, the sixth chakra is the spiritual center in which the interaction of mind and psyche can lead to intuitive sight and wisdom. Attention and meditation on this chakra bestow wisdom, clarity of vision and increased intuition, allowing you to begin to see life's bigger picture.   The Anja chakra presides over your mind and your sense of self. Although this chakra strictly speaking has no element associated with it, the mind could be thought of as the brow chakra's element, since the mind controls the senses and vital energy. Of all the chakras, the energy here has the most powerful effect on your personality.   This chakra is the seat of your judgment, your emotional intelligence and your notion of reality, rationality and wisdom. Six spiritual 'powers' are associated with this chakra: (1) unobstructed meditation, (2) perfect concentration, (3) the ability to direct your undivided attention, (4) thought-control, (5) samadhi or the super-conscious state, (6) and the attainment of enlightenment.   Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Vishuddha Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 80   Welcome to this beautiful series and a journey through the sacred centers of wisdom called chakras. As I share the sacred wisdom of this fifth chakra, I lean to the resources of teachers that hold a wealth of knowledge in their study of these ancient energy centers. I have directly quoted and referenced their work throughout each of the episodes in this 7-part series and I do so again here. I will leave links in the description for where you can find their books. I am very grateful to each one of these wise women. Thank you Carolyn Myss, Dr. Brenda Davies, and Anodea Judith for your interpretation and collective gathering of this ancient wisdom.   Your VISHUDDHA CHAKRA: Your Communication Centre and  The Power of Will As we enter the etheric level of the throat chakra, we enter a paradoxical realm of great subtlety yet powerful influence. We leave behind the balanced middle ground of the emerald green anahata chakra and reach into the etheric range of turquoise and blue that resonate with the throat chakra. The element of this chakra is akasha, a Sanskrit term that translates as “ether”, “limitless space” or “sky”. The enveloping element of air still surrounds us, yet we reach beyond it into the unknown ether – the realm of vibrations, sound, communication, and the awakening of creative identity. It is an awakening that stems from a realization of yourself as a separate being from your security in your social environment, and from your desire to make a personal contribution to the world around you.   Communication is the essential function of the fifth chakra. As self-expression, communication is a gateway between the inner world and the outer. Only through self-expression does the outer world get to know what is inside of us. And, we may only know what is inside of someone when they choose to tell us. (We trust they are speaking their truth and in complete honesty).     Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Anahata Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 78   Welcome back to this sacred journey into the chakras. The chakra system originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC – more than four thousand years ago in the ancient literature of the Vedas. Evidence of the chakras, is also found in the Upanishads, the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, and perhaps most thoroughly in the sixteenth century by an Indian yogi in a text called the Sat-Chakra-Nirupana.   The chakra system was taught orally by the Indo-Eurpoean people (also called the Aryan people). It was traditionally considered an Eastern philosophy until New Age authors, like Anodea Judith and others, resonated with this wisdom and began writing about the chakras.     If you've been joining me in this series, I hope that you've allowed yourself to explore the wisdom of these ancient energy centers; these spinning sacred wheels of life. They are believed to hold energetic space within us; and which link areas of the body and psyche with associated metaphysical realms.   Within each episode in this series, I describe how each chakra affects our psychology, and our emotions and behaviours as human beings. Based on the teachings of this ancient wisdom and the modern day authors who bring this wisdom to life, I share it because it is yet another important way to understand the self; your patterns and behaviours; and how you may help yourself unblock and balance the flow of energy that moves through you. You also begin to draw insights and a helpful perspective from the ancient wisdom of the chakras, including what limiting thoughts and beliefs hold you back from living the full expression of life.   Perhaps, most important still, my hope is to give you additional resources and another source of self-healing; for finding and thriving ‘in balance', and for helping to effect the change you seek – within yourself and of your life.   As I share with you the teachings of your fourth chakra, I reference and take direct quotes from Anodea Judith's book: Eastern Body Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System as a Path to the Self and the work of Carolyn Myss and her book: Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing. I'll link up their work here in the description; as both are esteemed experts in this field, and these are great reads if you wish to learn more.   A chakra is a center of organization that receives, assimilates, and expresses life force energy. Based on their location in the body the chakras have become associated with various states of consciousness, archetypal elements, and philosophical constructs. The lower chakras, for example which are physically closer to the earth, are related to the more practical matters of our lives – survival, movement, action. They are ruled by physical and social law. The upper chakras represent mental realms and work on a symbolic level through words, images, and concepts. Each of the seven chakras from the base of the spine to the crown of the head, represents a major area of human psychological health.   Here we dive into your Anahata, your heart center. Since the heart chakra is the middle point in a system of seven centers, balance, together with love and relationship) are the essential principles at this level of integration. This implies both internal balance between various aspects of ourselves (mind and body, persona and shadow, masculine and feminine), as well as between ourselves and the world around us (for example: work and play, giving and receiving, socializing and being alone).   It is important to continue to find and live in equilibrium, for without balance within ourselves it is difficult, if not impossible, to achieve healthy and long-lasting love relationships. The basic right of the heart chakra is to love and to be loved.   Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.

Chakra WISDOM: Your Manipura Chakra The WISDOM podcast  Season 2  Episode 76   Welcome to this beautiful series and a journey through these sacred centers of wisdom called chakras. Each of the seven major chakras that we explore in this series, influence and govern accompanying areas of the body as well as the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual states that impact our path into the self.   On a physical level, these spirals of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contain bundles of nerves and relates to major organs as well as our psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. Since everything is moving, it's essential that our seven main chakras stay open, aligned, and fluid. If there is a blockage, energy simply cannot flow and we can literally feel stuck in life.   The Symbolic Power of the Seven Chakras Each of the seven energy centers of the human body contains a universal spiritual life lesson that we must learn as we evolve into higher consciousness. I take lead from the work of Carolyn Myss, one of my longtime favorite authors and someone whose work I followed early in my own spiritual development. Her book: Anatomy of the Spirit. The Seven Stages of Power and Healing. is another beautiful read of the chakra system and from where I directly quote and reference much of the teachings for the third chakra; our focus in this episode. I'll drop a link for it in the description. It is a classic. If you wish to read more on your third chakra, please check out the reading list I have prepared in the description.     Be sure to take part in the guided meditation that closes out this episode.  It is a beautiful experience in balancing the beautiful sacred energy of this chakra.

Today I’m delving deep into intuition, energy medicine, personal power, and how this all relates to my “witchier side.” I talk a lot about the solar plexus and all the ways it manifests in our lives, how it feels to be out of balance with it, and ways you can harness your own unique energy to step into your power and regain a sense of control with your health - and in your life. In this episode: How I got into what I call “energy medicine” [10:52] How energy medicine shows up in my work [16:44] “The fluff” and why I felt the need to branch off in a different way with energy medicine [17:11] Why I rejected the term “healer” in the past and the role personal responsibility plays in my practice [19:44] Intuition: what it is, what it’s not, and how to better recognize intuitive signals to help make decisions for yourself [26:01] Quick breakdown of the chakras, your solar plexus, and how it relates to your personal power [35:44] Diving into how your 3rd chakra energy allows you to show up in the world, and both the mental & physical the struggles that come when it’s out of balance [37:52] Control, powerlessness, and the particular relevance of the solar plexus in the healthcare world right now [40:23] What’s crippling some people (and throwing others into overdrive) and why this is SO important to understand in order to heal [43:05] The two patterns I’ve seen emerge in people’s response to 2020 and how it all ties to either an excess or deficiency in your 3rd chakra [44:31] Ways to heal yourself and bring balance back to your solar plexus [50:21] Harnessing your “Good girl gone bad” energy, what it means to fill your cup, and healing a deficient 3rd chakra [55:54] Bringing back into balance a 3rd chakra in excess (an ongoing practice for me!) and ways to disperse all that energy [1:01:38] Evaluating technology use and what it means for an excessive or deficient 3rd chakra [1:06:46] In the moment things to do for your 3rd chakra [1:10:45] “We cannot change the world if we have not yet individuated from the way the world expects us to be.” Anodea Judith Resources Mentioned in this episode: Organifi Red Juice (enter code FUNK for 15% off) https://www.organifishop.com/products/organifi-red-juice Eastern Body, Western Mind: Psychology and the Chakra System As a Path to the Self https://amzn.to/3hQKmTA Wheels of Life: A User's Guide to the Chakra System (Llewellyn's New Age) https://amzn.to/3choAat Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing https://amzn.to/3mFhMrM Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UW5X4C/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i1 Guided Meditation for Uncertain Times https://www.erinholthealth.com/erin-holt-health-1/2020/3/19/a-guided-meditation-for-uncertain-times Guided meditation for Balance & Self Healing https://www.erinholthealth.com/erin-holt-health-1/meditation-for-balance Related pods: Episode 111: Sh*t We Don't Talk About (Good Girls Gone Bad) https://www.erinholthealth.com/funktional-nutrition-podcast/2020/8/5/episode-111-sht-we-dont-talk-about-good-girls-gone-bad Episode 109: Human Design with Aycee Brown https://www.erinholthealth.com/funktional-nutrition-podcast/2020/7/16/episode-109-human-design-with-aycee-brown Go beyond: Follow Erin on Insta https://www.instagram.com/the.funktional.nutritionist/ Your Hormone Revival https://www.erinholthealth.com/hormones Eat to Achieve https://www.erinholthealth.com/eat-to-achieve

He then also did a reading for Executive Producer, Karen Loenser and—holy moly!!! In addition to receiving guidance and validation, a friendship began. Michael is a seeker in every sense of the word. His journey weaves together science and spirituality. Yet for many years, he kept these different sides compartmentalized. In addition, as a teenager, Michael had been introduced to the practice of community building, which is also another important part of his life that he credits for changing his life. While his college years led him to become a neuroscientist, his intuitive side eventually led him to study mediumship, the chakras and numerology. And this is why you need to know Michael. How does he bring these different sides together? Robyn and Karen have a fascinating conversation with Michael, plus you’ll learn more about Numerology both for yourself and how we can use it to look at our past presidents and the candidates of the 2020 Election. In my lowest points, I felt stuck. I was living in pain, and my cup was so empty that I couldn’t offer anything to anyone else. It took a lot of self-love, self-mastery, and support to climb out of that hole. And I was recently excited to stumble upon a name for that phenomenon in “Anatomy of the Spirit: The Seven Stages of Power and Healing” by Caroline Myss. In the book, Caroline writes: “Woundology is the tendency to insistently hold on to old traumas. You define yourself by your hurts, not by your strengths, and there in those hurts you stay stuck forever.” I don’t necessarily agree with the “forever” part, but this framing really helped me contextualize my experience: I had an emotional, energetic wound that I continued to relive in every step I took. I had to do a lot of inner work to heal that wound and move forward with my scars, and there’s nothing we can do to remove those scares entirely, but we don’t need to stay stuck forever.   Take Action: Learn more and find complete show notes for every episode at www.yourbadassjourney.com Follow the podcast on Instagram for more tips, advice, and inspiration: @yourbadassjourneypodcast Get your SLP Mastery Workbook   Connect with Kareen: Website: kareenwalsh.com Instagram: @kareenzwalsh Facebook: facebook.com/CoachKareenWalsh Twitter: @kareenzwalsh LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/kareenwalsh   Your Badass Journey is a production of Crate Media

Soul Soil: Where Agriculture and Spirit Intersect with Brooke Kornegay

In part 2 of this series, Vail opens up about new ways to approach business, our relationship with ourselves, and seeing the world through a holistic lens and how that opens up possibilities unavailable to the linear cause-and-effect thinking of scientific logic. Vail Dixon is a regenerative farmer and holistic grazing mentor. Founder of Simple Soil Solutions, Grazing Power and ABC Beef, Vail grew up working on farms, climbing mountains and enjoying nature. While training to represent her country in the Olympics, a life threatening accident gave Vail an opportunity to experience healing through healthy food and natural methods – even when doctors told her it was impossible. This deeper understanding of our food and farming systems instilled in Vail a passion for healing our soils as a way to rejuvenate our ecology, economy and health. Vail conducts research on how humans affect the soil biology and how that impacts productivity. Learning about ways to repair damaged soil biologically led Vail to understand how animals and humans play a vital role in soil regeneration. Vail is passionate about joining with Nature to heal the land, our economy and ourselves. Besides farming full time, she connects with open-minded farmers who want to become successful adaptive managers and create abundance on their land. To this end she is building a Holistic grazing mentorship program called Grazing Power, on-farm Grow Your Soil workshops, and Living Soils biological soil-building mentorship program.   In this episode... #61 - 4 Reasons Why Arguing Perceptions is a Losing Battle

Beyond Bitchy: Mastering the Art of Boundaries

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 28, 2019 31:34

In this episode Vicki talks about why arguing perceptions is almost always a losing battle. Perceptions are just opinions, and everyone has one. When we argue perceptions we forget that everyone has a right to theirs, and that two people can have exactly the same experience and perceive it completely differently. And the worst part is we often lose intimacy with others for the sake of being right, winning an argument, or simply proving out point. Biggest Takeaways From Episode #61: Your opinions are your perceptions, so arguing about them is futile. When arguing your perceptions, ask what do you hope to gain?  Life experiences, culture, and many other factors give us different perceptions than someone else might have about the same topic, event, or circumstance. Having a conversation or discussion with another person on subjects you don’t agree on can help you learn about each other. If your conversations or debates stop being fun, you may need to agree to disagree.   Highlights from Episode #61: Welcome back to the show! Today’s episode about why arguing perceptions is a losing battle. [04:46] There are 4 reasons why arguing perceptions is almost always a losing battle [05:16] In relationships we bump up against other people’s opinions and perceptions, and this is where boundaries come into play. [09:26] How arguing perceptions is related to problems with the listening boundary. [10:15] The first reason why arguing perception is a losing battle is what's the point? What are you hoping to gain? [12:55] The second reason arguing perceptions is a losing battle is that both of your perceptions may be correct. [15:02] The third reason is you risk losing intimacy with the other person. [19:58] The fourth reason arguing perceptions is a losing battle is because people tend to become even more attached to their opinions when they have to defend them. [23:42] What to do when you think someone is lying but they say they're not. [25:34] When parenting children, if you have a difference of perception than your spouse about parenting, ideally you need to come an agreement that both of you can live with. [28:46] If discussions stop being fun it might be time to disagree, rather than become disagreeable. It is vital to have our hormones balanced. Here are some tips: Supplements: make sure you’re taking enough Vitamin D and Omega 3 Fatty Acids. These will help with all 3 (hormones, immune and nervous) And make sure they’re high quality supplements. Listen in on the podcast to get her tips on how to tell the good ones from the bad ones. Hint: if you’re buying at a big warehouse store, they’re most likely full of additives. Eat enough good fats: walnuts, avocado, olive oil, safflower oil, avocado oil, coconut oil) Stay away from sugar and starchy carbohydrates. As we get older, we have lower tolerance for these. Get a decent amount of exercise. Never skip breakfast. Doing so lowers our cortisol levels, which affects sleep, stress, anxiety, our waistlines and plays a big role in menopause. Have breakfast within an hour of waking up. Make it high in protein and no carbs for breakfast. You will set your day up for success. Coffee?? If you wake up anxious, not hungry, hyper or have no appetite…don’t have it! If you’re going to enjoy a cup of joe, do it after you have breakfast.   Digestions: Suggestions to Have a Healthy Gut What you eat. Don’t eat crap! Toast = sugar; Cereal = sugar. How you eat. Be mindful. Take your time. Enjoy your food. Chew your food well. What you cook your food in. If you use Teflon or aluminum pans, you’re poisoning yourself and your brain. Cast iron pans are also a culprit for storing old fats and bacteria in the pores. It will affect your digestion.   Dr. Sokitch’s 3 Habits to Ensure Her Health Journey: Meditate daily Eat breakfast Some kind of physical activity   Get your 15-Day Fat Loss Kick-Start Ebook here.   Dr. Shiroko Sokitch Bio: Shiroko Sokitch, MD is a doctor who cares about you! Dorothy A. Martin-Neville, PhD, is an internationally known keynote speaker, an author, a mentor, and frequent radio and television guest. She has been featured on Oprah’s OWN Network as well as in numerous magazines and newspapers including the New York Times, and the Huffington Post. Dr. Dorothy, is a licensed psychotherapist, in practice for over 25 year. Her fascinating life includes: living in an orphanage, being adopted and raised in the housing projects of South Boston in a violent alcoholic home. She later became a Catholic nun, an international airline stewardess and so much more Dr. Dorothy has learned professionally and personally what she speaks about in her frequently requested talk 5 Steps To Claiming Your Dreams. Ultimately, because of her own inspiring life journey and that of so many others, she came to see that those who passionately and positively live this journey - rather than merely survive it - knowing Anything Is Possible - are the folks who achieve real success and/or health.  She now specializes in mentoring leaders who are ready for the next step in their leadership development allowing them to recognize there is no limit other than the ones they set themselves. Dr. Dorothy calls all to whom she speaks, with humor, and profound spiritual insight, to live their life fully becoming who they are meant to be, passionately and vibrantly to support their Spiritual Growth, Emotional Intelligence, and Physical Health. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra We are all in this together. We are all embodied souls. When You Tripped Up During her marriage of 15 years, Dr. Dorothy ended up disappearing in her relationship. She was invested in the longevity but not necessarily in the quality. You have to truly show up to be able to make any relationship all it can be. The “DUH” moment that changed your partnerships forever Dr. Dorothy’s “DUH” moment was when she realized that when something wasn’t satisfying to her in a relationship it was because her partner had no clue what she wanted. She was doing new things and adventures just because she could without asking if it was good for her to be doing them. When she took time to be alone and catch up with herself the more she realized she didn’t have to be busy. Her relationship with herself is the most imperative When you develop a solid connection to self you are far more prepared to have a happy, connected relationship with somebody else. It provides you with far more to share with your partner. Proudest moment in partnership Dr. Dorothy founded and ran a school on energy medicine for 19 years. She had such a close and connected team. They had such joy and excitement assisting people in their transformations. Current Partnership that Has You Excited Dr. Dorothy’s partnerships with her adult children as well as some women she has business partnerships with are the most exciting right now.  It is very exciting to have partnerships with others who have similar dreams. What is the best partnership / relationship advice you have ever received? No matter who you are in relationship with, you need to give them permission to be human. Permission to fail. There is a big difference between someone who has a pattern of letting you down or disappointing you and somebody who simply is human. I enjoy interviewing all the guests on my podcast. It's a huge privilege to be able to talk with such amazing people. And this one was really special as I got to interview one of the former students in my college ministry. Between 2001-2008 I was on staff at Bel Air Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA, serving as the college pastor from 2002-2008. And in that time I was really blessed to serve alongside some amazing students from UCLA, USC, LMU and a scattering of other schools. There was also a huge contingent of college-age kids in the ministry who weren't in school, but came out to pursue music, film, fashion and more. It was a really unique group that taught me a lot.   And in about 2004 I met a then sophomore at UCLA, Melissa Ponce, who is now Dr. Melissa Esguerra. I remember Melissa as someone who was really passionate about her faith, compassionate towards others, and who always seemed to have a smile on her face. And it was great having her as a part of that ministry at that time. It's been about 11 years since I first met Melissa, and probably about 8-9 years since I last saw her (except at a mutual wedding perhaps). And even though we don't see each other in person, it's been fun to watch her journey online. And over the last year or so I've really been inspired by the work that Melissa is up to, and a lot of her messages resonate with my own journey. I appreciate Melissa sharing her own story of being sick in college and going on a journey to heal through various means such as food, sleep, exercise, etc. It's very much the journey I have found myself on these last couple of years...trying to optimize how I feel through taking care of myself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.   Melissa wears a lot of different hats and is passionate about a lot of things, but primarily she is a Doctor of Functional Medicine who is interested in the whole person. She is holistic in her approach and in this episode we cover several different topics from women's health, to feeling tired, sleep, food, and faith. This is a pretty fast episode and there was so much more I would have loved to talk with her about, but our schedules prevented it. Next time I have Melissa back on I want to dive in deep with her on a couple of topics, and I want to hear more about her online program that she is launching. To find out more about that, just go here to sign up and receive more information. Some of the topics we cover are: women's health issues (what are some of the common issues Melissa sees) the always "feeling tired" feeling that many people struggle with. sleep: what does healthy sleep look like? food and diet faith Please listen and subscribe to my podcast in the following places, and then leave a comment letting me know what you liked about the show, or what guest you would like to hear from. I originally went to Les' Vinyasa flow class because Derek Loudermilk said Les was one of the best men he knew. With an introduction like that, from a person like that, I HAD to go. What I found was man who seems to have been smoothed out by the roughness of life. He had an ability to make me (in the back row of the class) feel like I was totally okay as I was and that I couild do anything. I know that this is what yoga teachers are supposed to do but I'm a tough person to impress in this way and boy did Les ever impress. HABIT OF THOUGHT: I have to be willing to walk the talk. HABIT OF ACTION: Walk the talk myself first. GREATEST AREA OF STRENGTH: : Very creative sequencer. Brutally honest able to hold a sacred, safe space. (Nik's take: To my eyes, Les has given himself the permission to get over his colourful past and is moving forward cleanly.) TRAINING FOR THIS AREA: Forgiveness.
