This week on Uncolonized, Gavin Stephens and Daniel Grant dive into the media's favorite zombie narrative: the “silent majority.” Every election cycle, pundits and pollsters act like it's a shocking new revelation—but this trope is as old as Nixon. We unpack the latest reincarnation of it, featuring the supposed shift of white male Gen Z voters to the right, particularly towards Trump. Are they really shifting—or just revealing who they've always been?Plus, in our Patreon-exclusive episode, we get into a viral story about a woman who dated a string of far-right men. What she discovered about their views, emotional development, and how they perform masculinity says a lot about the culture we're in.
What happens when two artists post on Instagram every weekday for an entire month? Spoiler: No viral fame, but they did book a DREAM client.

This week on The Nick Halaris Show we are featuring Zach Rausch, an Associate Research Scientist at NYU-Stern School of Business and the lead researcher for social psychologist Jonathan Haidt's new book “The Anxious Generation.” Zach's research for the book, both convincing and frightening, marks a major contribution to an ongoing conversation about the health of our kids and, ultimately, our nation.I wanted to have Zach on the show to highlight the important ideas outlined in “The Anxious Generation” and dive deeper into the story. I've become increasingly concerned that technologies like smartphones and social media, things we just accept and take for granted these days, might not actually be all that good for us. Tune in to this important lesson to learn:What the data is telling us there's been a shocking decline in mental health for kids and young people around the world Just why things like push notifications and the like-button work so well and why that's a problem, especially for kids What the hook formula is and how social media companies used it to design incredibly addictive productsWhy not all screen time is created equal and parents should be very careful with smartphones and social mediaWhy it's imperative that technology companies be accountable for the damage caused by their productsHow parents, schools, and government can work together to make things better for kids by pursuing 4 simple strategies: no smartphones until high school, no social media until 16, phone-free schools, and fostering more unsupervised play and childhood independence & Much, much moreZach and I also discuss why there might be an even bigger problem here, one that impacts our communities and our democracy itself. Stay tuned to the end to hear why, despite all the bad data, Zach remains optimistic we can right the ship. As always, I hope you all enjoy this episode. Thanks for tuning in! Ps. Well today we are going to go in-depth on what it means to not only battle against sin, but also realizing that we are all broken, sinful people that need a savior in Jesus.Today I invited on former collegiate baseball player, influencer, and podcaster Zach Dehn to talk about this topic and things that he has learned from sin that he has battled throughout his life as an athlete, specifically in college. Columbine. Las Vegas Rt. 91. Sandy Hook. Robb Elementary School. These shootings (and sadly, so many more) are seared into our public consciousness. I can still remember where I was when the news about Columbine broke. For many Post-Traumatic Parents, the thought of mass violence or school shootings is terrifying, because who knows better than us just how unsafe the world is? Even if our trauma wasn't about mass violence, the unsafe feeling trauma leaves behind affects us. In this deeply moving episode, the women of Survivors Path talk about the courage it takes to parent after being in a mass casualty event, the way trauma leaves a long shadow on our lives, and how to go on. This episode is all about the "M" of our "AIM" model for coping with trauma - making a mission and meaning out of it. For Survivors Path, that mission is supporting other survivors. Trigger warning - this episode does talk about mass violence, shooting, death, and the death of children. I'm deeply honored to have Survivors Path on the Post-Traumatic Parenting podcast and I can't wait for you to listen to the episode. In this episode, we talk about:What is it like to be a parent who has experienced trauma themselves and how it affects interactions with their childrenThe impact of trauma on their parenting journey, including panic attacks, anxiety, and navigating their children's exposure to violenceThe challenges of being a post-traumatic parent: setting boundaries, navigating difficult conversations with their children, and dealing with children's exposure to violence in the mediaWhy should you teach children the reasons behind rulesThe judgment faced by mass shooting survivors in handling their experiences and the challenges of navigating through trauma-related fearsCoping with stress and trauma through dissociation and its drawbacksAnticipatory anxiety and the aftermath of anniversaries related to traumatic eventsThe importance of support, friendship, and solidarity among mass violence survivorsFinding acceptance, integrating trauma into one's identity, and creating meaning and purpose in life as part of the healing processRecognizing and respecting children's interests and desires while discussing the consequences and responsibilitiesHow to have open communication and provide a safe space for discussing difficult topics with childrenRecognizing that it's okay not to know every detail of a child's experience and allowing them to advocate for them something Connect with me on Instagram @dr.koslowitzpsychology and for full show notes and more resources visit www.drrobynkoslowitz.com/2023/05/18/post-traumatic-parenting-after-mass-violence-survivors-path-share-their-wisdom/

You've seen that friend who does nothing but complain on social media… We all have one. They just endlessly post sob stories about how terrible their life is, and they keep doing it because their posts get engagement. The downside of this is anyone seeing those posts starts to form a negative mental image of that person - no one wants to hang out with someone who's constantly bringing the mood down. The same goes for bands. If a band, or band member, is constantly whining about life (or the music business) being difficult, that artist is less likely to achieve any meaningful form of success because people won't want to work with them. It's easy to be someone people enjoy working with, just by having a positive attitude. Listen now to learn how you can avoid becoming a “woe is me” artist! What you'll learn: Avoiding toxic trait of being constantly negative on social mediaWhy the artists who “make it” aren't the complainersHow to make money without trying to sell CDsThe band who alienated their entire fanbase with one Facebook postThe pros of staying positive during bad timesTwo examples of bands doing it rightThe mental roadblocks of negative thought For full show notes, visit https://bandhive.rocks/135

“Both my businesses have really strong values. And those have evolved pretty naturally from my growth coming into those interests of sustainability, of ethics, and saying, well, if I'm consuming something, that's one thing, but if I'm selling it, that's a whole other thing.”Today’s guest on Secret Leaders is not your average 23 year old. Grace Beverley is a Natwest GBEA Young Entrepreneur of the Year and founder of two brands, Tala and Shreddy. A successful female entrepreneur, Grace is shaking up the archaic business world. With a global reach of over 1.5 million, she’s been named first in Forbes 30 under 30’s retail and e-commerce list, at just twenty-three. At The University of Oxford she set up her first company, B_ND, a vegan friendly resistance band company which has since come under the Shreddy umbrella, an app that gives you workout plans you’ll actually like. And Tala, a sustainable activewear brand that is flying off shelves. But that’s not all, she’s also written a book due out in April called, Working Hard and Hardly Working. “Everything that we produce is going to be vegan. And that's what we set from the offset. And that was part of our purpose and our pillars and our values. And yet, obviously, that evolved to be so much more than that.”From influencer, to founding B_ND at The University of Oxford, to becoming CEO of two companies. Today’s episode charts Grace’s entrepreneurial journey, how her personal growth perspective has shaped her businesses, and how she’s learned to be a better leader by saying ‘I don’t know’. “I made this commitment a few years ago when I realised that, okay, I have this opportunity here to travel the world and take pictures for a living. And I don't enjoy that.”We chat about:The genesis of Tala and ShreddyBeing an influencerHow her two companies overlapWorking Hard, Hardly WorkingThe gender divide on social mediaWhy you need to define success for yourselfLinks:Book - Working Hard, Hardly WorkingWant to receive our podcast on a weekly basis? Get the BookGrandstanding: The Use and Abuse of Moral Talk by Justin Tosi and Brandon Warmke https://geni.us/1yLXXcCAbout the BookPeople used to hold out great hope for a public square in which individuals put petty disputes aside and engage in rational discussion about important issues. Unfortunately, public discourse today—especially on the internet—is full of adults behaving like poorly socialized children, acting out to show off for people they want to impress. In short, they engage in moral grandstanding, or the use of moral talk for self-promotion. Drawing from work in psychology, economics, and political science, this book develops an explanation of why people grandstand when they talk about morality and politics. Using the tools of moral philosophy, it argues that grandstanding is not just annoying, but morally bad. And finally, it explains what we can do to encourage people to support a public square worth participating in, by avoiding grandstanding.Among the topics covered:Why people grandstand and self-promoteEffects of polarizing discourse on social mediaWhy moderates check out of discussionsReasons for optimismFollow the AuthorsJustin Tosi on Twitter (@JustinTosi)Brandon Warmke on Twitter (@BrandonWarmke)Stay Connectedibnabeeomar.com Newsletter - What Muslim Leaders Read Sign up for the email list at and get your copy of the 40 hadith on social media ebookSocial Media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTubeTo support this podcast and related projects, please consider contributing at Patreon. This week on Going For Goal we welcome onto the podcast a former WH cover star – the Irish model and presenter, Laura Whitmore. She has become one of the best known and loved faces and voices, on TV and radio respectively, since she landed her first job with MTV in 2008. Her grit and positivity shine through in this episode, where she chats to WH editor-in-chief Claire Sanderson about her rather turbulent 2020. A year that began with the high of landing the plum job as the new Love Island host, before losing her dear friend Caroline Flack part way through the series. Laura tells us how – while it’s certainly been tough – she has been grateful for the fact lockdown has given her time to grieve. It also allowed her to spend more time with her partner Iain Stirling and rediscover the importance of stillness for mental health. Something that’s been MIA in her schedule since she moved from her hometown of Bray, County Wicklow, to begin her career in London more than a decade ago. She also opens up about her – relatably irregular – workout routine, dealing with online trolls and trying her best to use social media as a force for good.Follow Laura Whitmore on Instagram: @thewhitmoreFollow Claire Sanderson on Instagram: @clairesandersonFollow Women's Health on Instagram: @womenshealthukTopics:Laura Whitmore on self-care during the pandemicHow she protects her mental health on social mediaWhy lockdown gave her the chance to grieve friend Caroline FlackWhat it's like to work on Love Island with partner Iain StirlingHer go-to exercise for staying fit while travellingLike what you’re hearing? My expert interview this week is someone who I believe we all need to hear from.Digital wellbeing is becoming an increasingly urgent need for us functioning in the tech-obsessed society that we do. There are hundreds of studies that show how an unhealthy relationship with tech - especially our phones - can negatively impact our physical and mental health, our productivity and our happiness.Dr. Kristy Goodwin is Australia's foremost expert on digital wellbeing - she has a PhD in this area, is a speaker, author and entrepreneur. Oh and a mum to three gorgeous boys!Maintaining a healthy relationship with the tech in my life has been a key priority for me for a few years now. I have experienced firsthand how easy it can be to slip into a situation where I'm spending too long with it, at the expense of my own peace of mind and my presence with the real people around me.In our conversation, Kristy shares:The jaw-dropping healthcare appointment that set her on the path she's on nowStats showing how many of us are becoming slaves to our screens, for example did you know that 91% of us reach for our phones before our loved ones in the morning?!Why “Digital Amputation” isn't the solution3 warning signs we're overly dependent on our techThe phenomenon of “Email Apnoea” - which I definitely suffer from! The physiological reason we keep going back for more with social mediaWhy entrepreneurs and biz owners can be more susceptible to tech dependence than othersThe neurological need for us to have some digital disconnection timeThe “Resumption Lag” and what it means for our productivityWhy multi-tasking makes us foggyI need to be REALLY clear here - this episode is NOT about shaming or blaming ourselves for how we interact with the tech in our lives. Kristy and I both share very honestly our own challenges in this area.Kristy's whole approach is to empower us with tech, and during our chat I kept coming back to that wonderful Maya Angelou quote: “When we know better, we do better.”I'm sure you'll agree that Kristy is an absolute goldmine of information on digital wellbeing and I'm so grateful I got to give you an insight into her incredible brain this week. Please remember that the first step in improving our relationship with tech is to become aware of our own habits and patterns. To connect with Kristy, visit her website at drkristygoodwin.com and you can find her on Facebook and her Instagram handle is @drkristy.As always, I would LOVE to hear your thoughts on this episode and how the topic of digital wellbeing plays out in your own life.I want to say a big thank you to my first ever podcast partner, Luxit. I've been using Luxit for four years now, to get me looking my best before everything from important client presentations to photoshoots, to filming, to awards nights. I prebook on the app and a LUXIT partner arrives on my doorstep and does my hair and makeup while I do last-minute speech prep, eat my breakfast or - when Lexi was tiny - breastfed her.Next week my third book is launching and my LUXIt partner will be arriving on my doorstep at 5.30am to make me look glam before I jump in an uber to help the team set up for the event. Thank you again LUXit for being my first partner for my show. You can find out more about Luxit at luxit.com.au and follow them at @luxit_official.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
