Willie Hicks, CTO of Public Sector at Dynatrace, joins Carolyn and Mark to discuss the top Cybersecurity news stories so far in 2022. Willie offers his expert opinion on the White House Executive Order on Improving the Digital Government Experience, the recent Log4j vulnerability, and the Pentagon's new Zero Trust office. Episode Table of Contents[00:43] Unpacking the Biggest Headlines in Cybersecurity News [08:21] Major Catastrophe [16:03] Cybersecurity News Highlights the Highest Level of Vulnerability [23:59] A Quantum Shift in Cybersecurity News Episode Links and Resources Unpacking the Biggest Headlines in Cybersecurity NewsCarolyn: Today we talked to https://www.linkedin.com/in/williehicksee/ (Willie Hicks), Dynatrace public sector CTO. He'll unpack some of the biggest headlines of late from the Executive Order on Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Log4j. I know Willie, you're so sick of this topic, but we're going to cover it anyway, and then Zero Trust Thunderdome Awards. I want to go first to the Executive Order requiring improving the digital government experience. Willie, will you give us the big takeaways from this Executive Order? What does it mean for our agencies? Willie: First of all, I think that the Executive Order on Transforming is transforming the federal customer experience. It is going to impact the agencies, but I also think it's going to impact the digital citizens of the day, the real customers of the federal government. I think President Biden reiterated this, it's supposed to be a government for the people, by the people. We're trying to put people back into the equation. I think the big takeaway for me is that the federal government is coming back into or getting to a point where they're really understanding that customer experience, well, they already understood it. But they're really starting to internalize and figure out how to make customer experience like the customer experience most citizens expect to see with anybody who shops on Amazon, anyone who does a Google search.A Fundamental Shift in Customer ExperienceWillie: They expect, with the push of a button, that they got all the groceries shipped to them the next day or the same day. That kind of experience you do not get with the federal government today. I think that we're seeing a fundamental shift now, not just that kind of digital experience, but I think across the board. Like when you even walk into a brick or a mortar building, when you interface on the phone with a government employee, I think we're going to start, hopefully, seeing more customer-focused, customer-centric type attitudes. This is really long overdue. I've been in this business for many years. I remember one of my early visits to a federal agency that will remain nameless, but I was speaking to this agency about what we call our digital user experience. How we need to focus on the real metric who's the end user. Right now, you are focused on the back end. You're focused on, is the server up or down? Is this process running? Do I have availability for this device? No one's actually really looking at the end user. So how do you know they are getting a good experience? Not only are the systems running, but are they running efficiently? Are they getting transactions back in a timely manner, or are they frustrated?I remember one engineer saying, "Well, why does that matter?" I'm like, "It does matter because they're your number one responsibility. That is who pays your salary." This person, an engineer, actually said to me, "Well, there's not another X agency. It's not like they're going to go somewhere else. This isn't Amazon or another commercial entity. If it doesn't work, they'll come back later." That was the response. And I was like, wow! Smooth Government TransactionsCarolyn: It makes me think of when my dad died a few years ago. We wanted to give him a full military burial, but we couldn't find the papers that we...

The leap from Richard Branson to crypto isn't that big, as it turns out. For venture capitalist Mags Kala, all it required was quitting her day job. Kala used to work at Bain Capital, helping out big brand names like Shea Moisture and Virgin Voyages. But one day she decided to leave it all behind and strike it out on her own. After about a year of going solo, she's become especially keen on the Web3 space. On this week's episode of the Modern Retail Podcast, Kala explained how and why she made the jump. For her, as a consumer investor, she wanted to be on the ground floor of the biggest changes in regards to how regular people spend their time and money. That's what initially turned Kala on to the world for crypto. What was it that made it click? According to Kala, an expensive digital avatar of an ape. “Joining the Bored Ape NFT craze was very eye-opening for me,” Kala said. Here, she was describing the company Bored Ape Yacht Club, which auctions off pixelated pictures of apes using blockchain-based contracts and cryptocurrency. While it's a phenomenon mostly for people online (with a lot of money to spare), Kala said the rise of these NFT artists made clear many other things as well. At its core, these types of new programs hit at a base-line question she's always trying to answer as a consumer investor, Kala said: “What's truly next for the consumer economy?”

Dr. Andreas Weber (he/him) is a Berlin-based book and magazine writer and independent scholar. He has degrees in Marine Biology and Cultural Studies, having collaborated with theoretical biologist Francisco Varela in Paris. Andreas' work focuses on a reevaluation of our understanding of the living. He proposes to understand organisms as subjects, and hence the biosphere as a meaning-creating and poetic reality. Accordingly, Andreas holds that an economy inspired by nature should not be designed as a mechanistic optimization machine, but rather as an ecosystem that transforms mutual sharing of matter and energy in a deepened meaning. Andreas has contributed extensively to developing the concept of enlivenment in recent years, notably through his essay Enlivenment: Towards a Fundamental Shift in the Concepts of Nature, Culture and Politics (Berlin 2013; published in expanded and rewritten form as Enlivenment: Toward a Poetics for the Anthropocene, MIT Press, 2019). He has also put forth his ideas in several books and is contributing to major German magazines and journals, such as GEO, National Geographic, Die Zeit and Greenpeace Magazine. Weber teaches at Leuphana University and at the University of Fine Arts, Berlin. He is also part of the staff of und.Institute for Art, Culture and Sustainability, Berlin, which is devoted to link the fields of art and culture with the field of sustainability, and to develop exemplary models of productive exchange; and was named the 2016 Jonathan Rowe Commons Fellow, Mesa Refuge, Point Reyes, CA, USA. In this episode, Andreas and Brandi talk about the intersections of Love + Death, including: How one of his books helped Brandi fall back in love with the world a handful of years ago. The first time they both remember death becoming real in our lives, not just conceptually, but somatically. How our world is in a century-long struggle against death. The physical experience of aliveness. What biology has to say about purpose. How you can’t just be concerned with your own aliveness at the expense of others and your community. What fermentation and composting have to do with community and healthy ecosystems. How Andreas is trying to make himself more edible. How he’s leaning further into more animistic thinking. The challenge of institutionalizing these ideas at scale. Or, how we might “organize” aliveness. How Dr. Weber practices love in his life practically. This is a special presentation of Day 2, GeekWire's podcast about everything Amazon. For more episodes, see geekwire.com/day2 or subscribe to Day 2 in Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. Direct retail sales are poised to represent less than half of Amazon's business for the first time in its history — a fundamental shift that reflects the e-commerce giant's expansion beyond its roots as an online store. Revenue from Amazon Web Services, Amazon Prime, third-party seller services, online advertising and other services added up to 49.3% of Amazon's business in the second quarter. It almost matched the company's revenue from online and physical stores, and appears to be on a trajectory to surpass them in the future. That's one of several takeaways from Amazon's second-quarter earnings report, released Thursday afternoon. On this episode of Day 2, GeekWire's Podcast about everything Amazon, we nerd out over Amazon's numbers. Joining GeekWire co-founder Todd Bishop for the discussion are two online retail industry veterans who pay close attention to Amazon's business: Our podcast collaborator, Jason Boyce, former Top 200 third-party seller, founder of Avenue7Media and co-author of The Amazon Jungle. Andrea Leigh, vice president of strategy and insights at Ideoclick, a Seattle-based e-commerce technology and services firm that works with vendors to Amazon's first-party retail sales, and third-party sellers. Leigh was an Amazon general manager and retail category leader for nearly 10 years. Coverage of Amazon earnings: Amazon sales of $113B disappoint Wall Street but profits of $7.8B exceed expectations Amazon's advertising business is surging amid industry-wide ad sales boom for tech giants Amazon boosting wages and hiring incentives to keep up in competitive labor market See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Rob is a coach and philosopher who has developed a powerful philosophy on living that he calls "The Fundamental Shift." It involves stepping outside of the lenses of our thoughts and how they shape what we see and achieve a greater awareness on how we shape what we see and how we can use that knowledge to adopt more functional lenses that allow us to get a more optimal grip on our relationship with the world. “To operate at your greatest order, eliminate chaos from your life so you can banish it from your mind.” I am fundamentally a different person than I was a few years ago because of the shift I made in this podcast. Frankly, I thought it was cool. But, I wouldn’t have been able to get my stuff together and learn how to grow teams if it weren’t for learning how to recognize and eliminate distractions. If you feel like your life is a little cluttered too, you might want to listen in. What feeds the consciousness of someone who becomes so hateful and fearful of his own sexual desire that he would turn against those whom he has been led to believe are the source of his sinful desires and temptation? How many more out there are subject to the same influences? In this episode we are taking a closer look at the doctrines and teachings that fed the consciousness of a murderer. We’re talking about the dangers of purity culture in light of the recent spa shootings in Atlanta. In our everyday lives, we spend so much of our waking hours running away from the present moment. We run around making ourselves busy, chasing whatever’s next. When we have a chance to stop this rushing and running, our thoughts are often consumed with fears about the future or regrets about the past. The practice of conscious breathing is a way for us to stop running, quiet our minds for a moment, and fully inhabit the present moment with our body and mind. It can help bring us into a state of calm and ease, and leave us better equipped to face life’s circumstances as they arise rather than losing ourselves in constant worry about what *might* happen. This brief meditation episode is highly influenced by Mindfulness of Breathing by Brother Phap Dung of Plum Village. A gift to you from Fundamental Shift and The Quieted Mind. Many of us this year are dealing with the reality that we cannot return home for the holidays. When we talk about going home, it is helpful to be reminded that our true home is in the here and now. The practice of mindfulness is one of constantly arriving in the present moment. This guided meditation is adapted from one described by Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh in a Dharma Talk he delivered at Plum Village, France on July 16, 1996. You can read the text of that talk at PlumVillage.org.Follow The Quieted Mind at TheQuietedMind.com, where there are links to the YouTube channel and all the socials.
In this episode, Rob and Sarah share why “thinking” is at the root of consciousness. To evolve your consciousness, you need to be able to manage thought. If you can control when and what you're thinking, you will instantly have more agency over your own life. As well as added control over your feelings and behavior. Optimizing your meaning transforms your reality and allows you to adapt and thrive. This is a foundational part of The Fundamental Shift.
“Every bite of food that I was talking, was having an effect on my genetic expression.” Those are the words of today’s guest. We have all heard the expression, you are what you eat. For many investors, the strong sell-off in tech stocks late last week represented a long-awaited technical correction after months of euphoria. Others are questioning whether fundamental factors played a part, and whether the underlying fundamental drivers remain solid enough for the overall rally to continue. Meanwhile, central bank support remains strong, bolstering developed market credits, though risks still linger in the background.

In today's episode, Irina sits down with Anna McGovern, founder and managing director of Pondview Consulting. With over 25 years working on enterprise supply chain processes, she now works with C-suite supply chain and procurement officials to develop and execute enhanced strategies, network design, and business process improvement. Their discussion focused on the fundamental shifts in the supply chain due to COVID and what business professionals can do to not only protect their companies from the next crisis but also what the landscape might look like after the dust has settled. Many companies were unprepared for such a disruption to their operations. It tested the agility and resiliency of supply chains, and most people couldn't recover in time. Anna discuses business strategies that companies can implement to build that resiliency and protect themselves and their revenue stream. Anna also discusses how the supply chain has to be at the front end of the innovation funnel. There's no use in having a great idea if you don't have the infrastructure or capability to make it come to life. If you want real speed to market, you need the capability to exist. If you are a big, established company that is too slow to make decisions, you will lose market share and become irrelevant to consumers over time. Over the last 15 years, companies have focused on consolidation, scaling, creating leverage, and getting rid of non-strategic suppliers. In a post COVID world, we now need to swing the pendulum a bit more towards the middle, and we will see more supply chain diversification with companies. High value, critical items might be reshored. Still, a lot of the lower cost items that are produced overseas will most likely continue production abroad because consumers will have to take on the higher cost. Companies need to reinvest in their supply chain more now and focus on having multiple sources. Anna also goes on to state that people are not prepared and have not prepared themselves to be tech-savvy. If you're not continually learning and training yourself, you're behind the curve. Retrain to be part of something that is going to move the business forward -constant education, training, and retraining. If you don't speak technology, you are a dinosaur. If you're ready to innovate your supply chain with an innovative supply chain management platform, you can learn more about the Suuchi GRID through the links below: https://www.suuchi.com Email us at hello@suuchi.com

Andreas Weber is a Berlin-based philosopher, biologist, and writer. He holds degrees in marine biology and cultural studies. He proposes the development of a “poetic ecology” which intimately attaches our species to every being and underpins the entire range of human experience. He argues that feelings and emotions, far from being superfluous to the study of organisms, are the very foundation of life. His books in English include: Enlivenment: Towards a Fundamental Shift in the Concepts of Nature, Culture and Politics (2013); The Biology of Wonder: Aliveness, Feeling, and the Metamorphosis of Science (2016); and Biopoetics: Towards an Existential Ecology (2016). Weber regularly contributes to major newspapers and magazines, such as National Geographic and has won a number of awards for his writing. His latest book and our subject today is Matter and Desire: An Erotic Ecology.
" To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself into a victim. When you speak out, you are in your power. So change the situation by taking action or by speaking out if necessary or possible; leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness." - Eckhart Tolle Let's talk: Fill out the application www.momisincontrol.com/takebackcontrol Resource: Rob Scott www.robscott.com (Fundamental Shift)

[Listen on iTunes] ROB SCOTT is a master level coach who helps people shift their identities and make dramatic breakthroughs on all platforms of their life. Over the past two decades he has helped people who were struggling and feeling unfulfilled to succeed in the various areas they were looking to improve. The Fundamental Shift, pioneered by Rob, teaches people how rewire their limiting beliefs, and ultimately leaves them completely transformed and understanding the distinctions of thought vs experience. Rob has pinpointed humanity’s core issue and identified and named this problem. It’s the problem of limiting of our current identity. The thoughts you create yield the results of what you think you deserve. Rob has made it his mission to shift this mindset and create habits and behaviors that yield positive outcomes. The result of this shift are people who are living to their full potential and achieving a level of success they thought was impossible to reach. Now, after a decade of helping believe reach this next level consciousness, Rob has reached hundreds of thousands people with his message and his practices. He has been fully awake for more than twenty years and is passionate about how to change to world. People who have worked with Rob have experienced breakthroughs in health, relationships, income, and an overall sense of happiness and fulfillment. Rob has helped business grow, relationships flourish, and has even helped craft congressional testimony that has lead to national policy reform, all by teaching others how to evolve their consciousness to shift their identity. In this episode we talk about: A peek into Robs story from being born into pain and abuse to evolving and having an impact on the consciousness of hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. What it truly takes to receive the love we say we want. The single most transformative tool for personal development. Quotes from this episode: At the base of addiction is a dissatisfaction with this moment. Without a doubt beginning to work with the mind - with the self awareness of detaching from your frames of reference and belief systems - is the most transformative tool that there is. We need to feel worthy and deserving of love. I had so much shame and difficulty going through what I went through as a younger guy that I didn’t really feel I deserved it for a long time. Join TNS Host Steve Heilig in conversation with Andreas Weber, a Berlin-based book and magazine writer and independent scholar. Andreas’ work has focused on a re-evaluation of our understanding of the living, and the disconnection between humans and nature, arguably the root cause of most of the environmental catastrophes unravelling around us. In his recent book, The Biology of Wonder, Andreas proposes a new approach to the biological sciences, a “poetic ecology” which intimately connects our species to everything that surrounds us, showing that subjectivity and imagination are the prerequisites of biological existence. Dr. Andreas Weber Dr. Andreas Weber has degrees in Marine Biology and Cultural Studies, and collaborated with theoretical biologist Francisco Varela in Paris. His work has appeared German magazines and journals such as GEO, National Geographic, Die Zeit and Greenpeace Magazine. Weber teaches at Leuphana University and at the University of Fine Arts, Berlin. He has published more than a dozen books, most recently the English editions of Enlivenment: Towards a Fundamental Shift in the Concepts of Nature, Culture and Politics (Heinrich Böll Foundation 2013), and Biology of Wonder: Aliveness, Feeling and the Metamorphosis of Science (New Society Publishers 2015). Andreas is part of the staff of und.Institute for Art, Culture and Sustainability, Berlin, which is devoted to link the fields of art and culture with the field of sustainability, and to develop exemplary models of productive exchange. Andreas was named as the 2016 Jonathan Rowe Commons Fellow at the Mesa Refuge, a writing residency center in Point Reyes, CA Find out more about The New School at tns.commonweal.org.
The O'Reilly Radar Podcast: The short-term and long-term future of artificial intelligence. In this episode, I chat with Marc Warner, CEO of ASI, a data science and business analytics consultancy and training organization in London. We talk about artificial intelligence, speculating about the future and looking at current real-world business applications of AI. We also talk about a survey Warner recently conducted with data science companies in London, where he uncovered a data scientist skills cap. Here are some highlights from our chat: The last problem we ever solve If we create a general intelligence in a safe and beneficial manner, the gains to humanity could be absolutely enormous; it really could be the last problem we ever have to solve. After that, we spin up our AGI in the cloud and basically everything else is taken care of. Having said that, if we mess up this transition somehow and things go badly, then it could end up being literally the last problem we ever solve and terrible things happen. Hopefully, the actions that we can take now have the ability to influence the probability of either outcome. AI in the short term We see a really interesting cross section of what people are actually doing with machine learning and artificial intelligence right now. It's really exciting. Conventionally, software's been used for decades in the form of expert systems where humans would code in explicit sets of rules, and nowadays you just don't need to provide those rules; the machine learning algorithms can pick out the understanding themselves from the data, and it's actually much, much more effective. For things like custom analytics or recommendation or speech recognition or image tagging, all of these are being used across more and more domains. One of the things that this enables is a continuing personalization of services, so things like smart personal assistants or personalized health care are all going to be in the relatively short-term future of using these tools in the commercial environment. AI's fundamental shift: Supplemental thinking If we look at a human as sort of an abstract information processing unit, there are a few things we do: we receive information, we store it, we process it, and then we transmit it. With the advent of the printing press, suddenly we had the ability to store and transmit information with high fidelity and at scale, but in all of human history, pretty much all the processing of information that's ever been done has been done inside a human's head. It's only now, for the first time ever, that we can supplement this ability to think, to process information with machines, and that seems to me to be quite a fundamental shift. Winning at AI Probably the winners of this shift are those that are thinking today about which parts of their business are most vulnerable. Alongside this, obviously investing in things like data collection and fairly sensible ideas around using open source tools and cloud infrastructure. It means that they're giving themselves the smallest amount of fixed costs to move on any new trends that come out. I guess this is sort of fundamentally tied to my previous answer, in that if you don't think you can predict the exact specifics of what a change is going to be, you want to make yourself as agile as possible to deal with it in the moment. Marc Warner will be speaking more about artificial intelligence and the future of data science at Strata + Hadoop World London 2016.

Humanity has a core problem: the limit of our current identity. Can you unpack that for us? * identify is just a story you're telling yourself. it changes over time * The core human problem may be delusion itself.. Direct relatioshipw ith our inturpretation of truth. * Lenses share, color the way we see the world. Built to be invisible. to be looked through, not looked at. Republican / Democrate, Vegan / Pale, * Some of the lenses we put on are terribly limiting. How do we see the lenses that we have? * Shift in awareness is about a fundamental shift. * We've all had the moment Breaking up with the truth. * When we take the limits as truth we have to change what's going on * Need to determine if that's limiting... Are you thinking, that sucks. * End up seeing it in our emotional state, which comes from the meaning making in our head. * Evidence in the past is not relevant to the future * Think in terms of useful over true. Subconscious mind sees familiarity as safe. Three steps to the waking up process... 1. Awareness. Grab a piece of paper and write down what you hear. All the negative self talk, inner critic. Become aware of what they are. You may not believe them 100% but represent bad software running around in the system. Awareness itself is curative. 2. Challenge the thoughts. Have confidence / gumption to look at what you wrote down and decide i don't want those to be true. 3. Replace negative with an alternative that is more useful. Not inaccurate, useful. Not, i'm a millionaire but, i enjoy earning good money. Pattern these into the identity and it changes the subconsious. Habits don't work until you actually change the subconciouns. Instead, accepting Change, when it happens is immediate. * The state change from anxious to confident can be instant. * There's not time, order, it's random. When we learn how to manage meaning making we get to a great degree control the state we're in. * There are stage evolution that take growth over time. * The suffering comes when we're in a specific phase, beginner, and we allow that to control our state. Haven't made it okay to be where we are. Favorite business book? - Spin Selling. Today's guest entrepreneur following the words of Steve Jobs, on the top rated Join Up Dots podcast interview is a man who has been on a terrible journey to get to where he is today. At least in my perspective it looks that way, but perhaps in classic Join Up Dots fashion perhaps it was all these things that were needed to be experienced to make him who he is now. To build his current level of business success from nothing to amazing. As he says in his own words ” As a small boy I had been violently and repeatedly raped from the age of three to around eight years old. Which left me feeling completely empty. So full of shame, it was incredibly difficult for me to feel safe or trust anybody at all. In fact, to deal with this trauma, my brain almost split into multiple personalities so that I could detach and protect myself when I was being seriously abused. As you might imagine, I turned to drugs and alcohol to mask the pain, trying drugs as early as seven years old.” By his late teens and early 20's, it had gotten so bad that he was in and out of jails, institutions, halfway houses and he ended up homeless, and living on the streets. He was failing at everything, his entire life was a mess and after all he'd been through, he had every reason to hate the world. But he finally realized if he didn't change, he was going to die. This is when he developed a simple mindset shift that changed everything. He realized that for a long time it was his mindset that had been the biggest problem he faced. In that one moment, he changed his very identity, and what happened next was incredible. And that is where we will begin today's episode, and this is going to be a great one, as today's guy has since seen incredible success, and is literally changing the world everyday. So does he see that the things he spends his days doing were always in him, or was it because of his history that he found the skills that he loves sharing? And does he feel that the mindset people have is the number one reason why so many keep themselves small? Well lets find out as we bring onto the show to start joining up dots with the one and only Mr Rob Scott.
