A conversation with Kiira Heymann, Director of Strategic Partnerships at the Non-GMO Project and the Food Integrity Collective. After the success of the Non-GMO Project in the U.S., which is now featured on almost 63,000 products, the team is launching the Non-Ultra-Processed Food verification. In this conversation, we discuss why—why introduce another label? And why is it so important for the food sector to focus on increasing consumers' capacity to demand more from their food system, rather than just adding another label? This isn't just another label—it's a carefully considered intervention designed to reconnect people with their food in profound ways. When 70% of American store shelves hold ultra-processed products engineered with ingredients banned in other countries, the stakes couldn't be higher. What makes this effort particularly fascinating is how it challenges the very foundation of food certification itself. Rather than creating another "shortcut to trust", the team is exploring how to eliminate the need for certifications entirely by rebuilding true transparency in our food system. Their research shows 81% of North Americans are concerned about questionable ingredients in their food, yet only 17% feel knowledgeable about the topic—a gap this initiative aims to close.Beyond ingredients, this movement addresses the cognitive impact of ultra-processed foods. Studies show these products can significantly impair brain function in as little as 30 days, creating a troubling cycle where the very foods engineered to be addictive are simultaneously diminishing our capacity to make better choices. By helping consumers understand and avoid ultra-processed foods, the certification offers a pathway toward better physical and mental wellbeing.Currently in its pilot phase with 20 pioneering brands, the non-UPFs verification program aims to launch products by fall 2025. The certification represents more than just another shopping guide—it's an invitation to experience the profound difference real food makes in how we feel, think, and connect with our world.More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/kiira-heymann.==========================In Investing in Regenerative Agriculture and Food podcast show we talk to the pioneers in the regenerative food and agriculture space to learn more on how to put our money to work to regenerate soil, people, local communities and ecosystems while making an appropriate and fair return. According to our guest on this week's episode of the Faculty Factory Podcast, John Heymann, MD, every academic medicine professional can bet big on two things: compassion and understanding. Dr. Heymann is a neuroradiologist at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, where he serves as an Associate Professor in Radiology, as well as the Director of Residency Programs and Vice Chair of Clinical Operations. “Being angry all the time is not conducive to longevity, and I think a lot of that comes from misunderstanding other people and their mind states. Therefore, it's important to be mindful and practice compassion,” Dr. Heymann said. It truly might be time to double down on compassion. Understanding is at the core of compassion, as we learn in this discussion, and both elements are necessary for compassion to manifest. The bottom line is that how we interact with one another and recognize each other's challenges is an essential part of our mental health and well-being. Gold shines brighter than ever with a record-breaking 37 price highs this year solidifying it as a safe haven in uncertain times.Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining (ASGM) produces 20% of the world's gold but employs 80% of gold miners – an estimated 10-15 million people, often in low-income countries. However, 30-35% of ASGM miners are children, and the sector is riddled with black market criminality – financing terrorism, war, and organised crime.Today we take a closer look at human rights and ESG in the value chain, and the important work being done to pinpoint the problem and clean up gold's act.Terry Heymann, CFO and ESG Lead at the World Gold Council (WGC), joins host Rose Mary Petrass, senior journalist at FS Sustainability. Some of the initiatives discussed in this episode include the industry-wide Consolidated Mining Standards Initiative and WGC's Gold Bar Integrity database. This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: OP3 - https://op3.dev/privacy

Auditory processing and language processing are two subjects that overlap, but not everyone understands how they are related and how they impact children who struggle with both of them. Joining me today to help me discuss this is Lois Kam Heymann, a speech and language pathologist with over four decades of experience with auditory processing disorder and auditory language processing challenges. Parents often come to Lois saying that their children aren't listening, and if you are someone who feels that their child or children don't listen, then this episode is definitely going to be worthwhile for you as Lois explains what could be going on. She also explains the difference between auditory processing disorders and ADHD, which are often confused even by medical professionals. The only way for parents and professionals to intervene appropriately is for a thorough assessment to be done. We need to know exactly where the problem lies so that we can intervene appropriately, especially since these problems can lead to frustration and low self-esteem in the child. I love the work that Lois is doing, so I hope that you will tune in as she discusses all of these topics and more! It's never too late to address auditory processing disorders. Show Notes: [2:39] - Auditory skills don't usually start in the ear but in the brain. [5:11] - Some kids with language difficulty are misdiagnosed with something like ADHD. [17:19] - The only way to build pathways is with auditory input. [19:42] - It is not generally a teacher's job to teach auditory skills. [20:39] - Adults can have auditory processing disorders, and it's never too late. [21:27] - What can parents do during summer months? The first half of 2023 is nearly done, and there have clearly been some interesting and intriguing transactions. What are the longterm trends, however? Should brokers be pitching potential overseas buyers on the U.S. broadcast media marketplace? Are the lone opportunities in television associated with low-power TV stations? Is the broker pool about to get shallower, because the deal-making marketplace simply can no longer support so many?Bob Heymann, the Chicago-based broker with Media Services Group, answers these questions and more in this InFOCUS Podcast, presented by dot.FM, hosted by Editor-in-Chief Adam R Jacobson.

Dennis connects via Zoom with Toren Heymann and Jonathan Agassi, the Tel Aviv, Israel-based filmmaker and subject of the new documentary Jonathan Agassi Saved My Life. The film documents about the rags-to-riches-to rags odyssey of Israeli porn performer Jonathan Agassi who rose to prominence in films like Men Of Israel, Trapped In The Game and Jonathan Agassi Goes Raw, all from director Michael Lucas. Jonathan talks about how he got into porn, the power that came with changing his name and the parts of the business that he loved the most, from having sex with beautiful men to buying lots of shoes. He also talks about his descent into drug use, the first time he tried crystal, how he'd disappear for weeks at a time, and his decision to to let Tomer film him using drugs on camera. He also recalls showing up to early Q & As of the documentary high on drugs and how watching the film and seeing himself use drugs on camera inspired him to get sober. Tomer talks about what drew him to Jonathan as a subject, the moments in the process where he knew he was making a much more serious and intense film than the porn romp he started making and the challenge of getting mainstream audiences to treat this as they would any other acclaimed, award-winning documentary. Other topics include: the deeo relationship Jonathan has with his mother that's at the heart of the film, the Pride Festival where Jonathan first realized the power of his sex appeal, why he loved attending the Hustlaball in Berlin, taking inspiration from Madonna's Sex book, Jonathan's current job working in a supermarket where he often gets recognized by fans of his porn and the warning from Oprah that went unheeded. www.heymannfilms.com
After a lifetime of being physically active, in 2014 Luisa Coll-Pardo Heymann was side-lined with a broken neck after being hit by a drunk driver. For months she could barely move, so when finally able to resume something approaching normal life, she had to start getting back in shape in teeny-tiny bite-sized pieces; thus, the concept of mini-workouts was born. She soon realized that these were a fantastic addition to her weekly schedule--even once she could exercise normally again--and has kept it up ever since. If you're in a similar situation working to come back from an illness or injury, are sedentary and/or tire easily and would like to have more energy, have a scary health problem that you need to get under control, or are just plain tired of being out of shape and don't know where or how to begin to get your body on the road to better health, Mini-Workouts are a great place to start.
