In the winter of 2021, an unusually powerful cyclone called Storm Arwen wreaked havoc on the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France. Andrew Jack, a fisherman that works in the Moray Firth of the North Sea, lost almost 600 lobster traps in the angry sea. Africa is the birthplace of humanity. The place where Homo Sapiens evolved language, built increasingly complex tools, and took the first tentative steps on a journey that would see our species populate the entire world. If Africa represents humanity's distant past, it also, in many respects, represents its future. Most of the world's growth in population today, and for the foreseeable future, is taking place in Africa. The UN projects that by 2090, around half of all children under the age of 15 will be in Africa. It does not take a giant leap of the imagination to conclude that the education of those children is of crucial importance, not just for the continent itself, but for the entire world. To help us understand the state of education in Africa, President and Co-Founder of NewGlobe, Shannon May joins Host and CEO of WISE, Stavros Yiannouka, in conversation. Jack played Major (and then General) Ematt in The Force Awakens, and The Last Jedi. He was also a dialect coach for many of the actors. He will be missed. We finally get to catch up with Ahsoka Tano in a recent story arc in Clone Wars Season 7. We last saw Ahsoka when she dramatically exited the Jedi Order at the end of Season 5, and we catch up with her in the seedy underworld part of Coruscant, where we are also introduced to two sisters. As you know we are avid readers of the Star Wars novels and comics, and we each began reading a newly released Star Wars novel. Often fighting side by side with Obi Wan Kenobi, Anakin, and other Jedi Masters, Ahsoka gained experience and mastery of The Force. She is a excellent fighter, and strong in The Force, as well as wise.Rey thought she was a nobody in vast galaxy. She was abandoned by her parents on Jakku, and gained excellent skills in hunting, melee combat, and as a scavenger. Rey discovered she had a connection to The Force that was strong right from the beginning. As she was trained by Luke Skywalker, and later General Leia, Rey discovered she was the Granddaughter of Emperor Palpatine, one of the most powerful of all the Sith Lords. Rey gains more power in The Force daily, as well as growing into a great leader and teacher.Which Jedi would you rather have by your side?0:30:55From a Certain Point of View (Featured Topic):Is Kathleen Kennedy destroying The Mandalorain? It is rumored that Kathleen Kennedy wanted The Mandalorian to tie into The Rise of Skywalker by explaining how Palpatine came back into the galactic picture, as well having "Baby Yoda" be an actual reincarnation of Yoda, because The Force felt it was necessary to bring Yoda back. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni were not having it, and went to Bob Iger to have Kennedy banned from the set. It's almost as good as the script for any movie we could see. Should she still be leading the Star Wars franchise?0:55:05Clear Your Mind of Questions (Q and A):Do you think we will get a Maz Kanata book eventually? Andrew Jack in Star Wars: the Last Jedi Actor and longtime dialect coach Andrew Jack died at the age of 76, just days after being diagnosed with COVID-19. Jack will be remembered for his roles as General Ematt in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and the voice of Moloch in Solo: A Star Wars Story. He worked with the cast of the Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Marvel movies as a dialect coach as well. How Han Solo’s Infamous Kessel Run Tied Into Star Wars: The Clone Wars Trace, Rafa and Ahsoka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars For years, Star Wars fans have heard Han Solo brag about his famous Kessel Run, which he completed in exactly twelve parsecs thanks to the Millennium Falcon. They also got their chance to finally witness the actual feat in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. Kessel is definitely a location in the Star Wars universe that’s almost exclusively linked to Han but, after the latest episode of The Clone Wars, that may not be the case moving forward. For those who aren’t caught up on what’s been happening in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show’s latest arc centers on Ahsoka Tano, who has left the Jedi Order. Since her departure, she’s been living in the Coruscant underworld but recently found refuge with an aspiring pilot named Trace and her shady sister, Rafa. Ahsoka and Trace quickly became firm friends, especially after Ahsoka saved her life on two separate occasions. However, their friendship was really put to the test this week after Rafa arranged for the group to complete a job using a freighter that Trace restored. As it so happens, Rafa arranged for the three to fly to Kessel, where they were to pick up and deliver a large shipment of spice to a crime family. Knowing the stories that surround Kessel, Ahsoka wass apprehensive, but Trace naively went along with her sister’s plan. In the end, the three found themselves captured by the Pyke crime syndicate. Solo did an effective job of emphasizing how dangerous of a place Kessel can be, and Clone Wars does the same. Ahsoka makes repeated attempts to make Trace understand that making a spice run could have dangerous results, including losing one’s ship. It’s this specific point that causes Trace to make a rash decision. Star Wars: The Clone Wars does an effective job of building on franchise lore and expanding on it in new ways. This can definitely be said of the “Bad Batch” story arc that kicked off the season. In terms of Kessel, its presence on the show never feels like fan service but more like a natural decision given Rafa’s desire for big jobs from high-paying clients. Giving viewers a look at how spice is processed through the use of slave labor was also a clear way of expanding what we know about Kessel and sending a pretty poignant message as well. Also, the plan Ahsoka comes up with to outsmart the Pykes is so risky it would make Han Solo proud. With Ahsoka, Trace and Rafa now caught in a deadly situation, we can only imagine that next week’s episode will give us an even better idea of the dangers of Kessel. On the Show with Fonseca Thomas G. Waites American actor and acting instructor born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Waites runs an acting studio in New York City which is named for him. He has been a member of the Actors Studio since 1984. He's been in the Warriors and the Thing and so many other movies. How Han Solo's Infamous Kessel Run Tied Into Star Wars: The Clone Wars Trace, Rafa and Ahsoka in Star Wars: The Clone Wars For years, Star Wars fans have heard Han Solo brag about his famous Kessel Run, which he completed in exactly twelve parsecs thanks to the Millennium Falcon. They also got their chance to finally witness the actual feat in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. Kessel is definitely a location in the Star Wars universe that's almost exclusively linked to Han but, after the latest episode of The Clone Wars, that may not be the case moving forward. For those who aren't caught up on what's been happening in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the show's latest arc centers on Ahsoka Tano, who has left the Jedi Order. Since her departure, she's been living in the Coruscant underworld but recently found refuge with an aspiring pilot named Trace and her shady sister, Rafa. Knowing the stories that surround Kessel, Ahsoka wass apprehensive, but Trace naively went along with her sister's plan. In the end, the three found themselves captured by the Pyke crime syndicate. Solo did an effective job of emphasizing how dangerous of a place Kessel can be, and Clone Wars does the same. Ahsoka makes repeated attempts to make Trace understand that making a spice run could have dangerous results, including losing one's ship. It's this specific point that causes Trace to make a rash decision. Star Wars: The Clone Wars does an effective job of building on franchise lore and expanding on it in new ways. This can definitely be said of the “Bad Batch” story arc that kicked off the season. In terms of Kessel, its presence on the show never feels like fan service but more like a natural decision given Rafa's desire for big jobs from high-paying clients. Giving viewers a look at how spice is processed through the use of slave labor was also a clear way of expanding what we know about Kessel and sending a pretty poignant message as well. Still not confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm or anyone else, but Variety is hearing from multiple sources that Joby Harold has been selected as the new writer for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series at Disney+. Indie Wire is hearing the same thing from their sources - but we never know if Indie Wire's sources are different from Variety's sources, do we? But I digress... On today's episode, we'll talk about this choice, because it does seem like an unusual one. Based on his career, it seems as though Harold has more experience in a producer/executive producer role than as a writer. And the series already has an executive producer in Deborah Chow (she's more than just the director for all the episodes). We'll also talk about the status of the production, because Variety's report mentioned something I didn't recall seeing anywhere before. And lastly, we'll take a moment to honor Andrew Jack, the British dialect coach who also appeared as General Ematt in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. He passed away earlier this week at the age of 76, due to complications from the coronavirus. ***I'm listener supported!
