How much did we love Barbarian? Go back and listen to the episode and check it out. You can probably guess that we are very interested in the new movie from its writer-director. And if we already weren't, the creepy website would easily suck us in. The Hell House LLC franchise is an underrated series that are excellent examples of found footage horror. The news that the final installment comes out later this year is certainly excit- wait. It's not going to be found footage?Anyone who has ever spent any amount of time on YouTube has eventually stumbled across a video about the greatest game show scandals of all time. And the Press Your Luck incident is one of the most infamous. After memorizing the board, the former ice cream truck driver went on a record breaking run.The Luckiest Man in America chronicles the episode and everything surrounding it. It is a character driven story that is more about the people involved than the actual scandal itself. The film uses great performances, aesthetics, and an overall tone to tell its story. If only it had more Whammys and less Johnny Knoxville.Call of the Void sets itself up to be a crazy ride from its awesome opening. It is an atmosphere that lasts the entire runtime. It is a shame the filmmakers decided to go all in with being creepy and totally decided to ignore the writing. It is a great example of what happens when being vague and weird is more important than actually telling a story. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. According to Emmy-winning producer Patrick McDonald, getting sober behind the scenes of a Bravo hit isn’t just a personal victory—it’s a production problem. Britney Spears was spotted touching down in Mexico for yet another seaside escape—but it wasn’t her outfit that caught fans’ attention. It was the baby doll wrapped in a pink blanket, clutched tightly by a man in her entourage. The Men in Black star’s highly anticipated comeback album Based On A True Story has flopped hard, selling just 268 physical copies in the UK and failing to even crack the Billboard 200 in the U.S. Rob is joined by his dear pal Garrett Vogel from Elvis Duran and the Morning Show with all the scoop. Rule Breakers tells the remarkable true story of how entrepreneur Roya Mahboob fought for girls' education in Afghanistan and formed the country's first competitive robotics team, the Afghan Dreamers. On this very special Season 3 premiere of CherryPop, Meg welcomes to the podcast, the film's inspiration and executive producer, Roya Mahboob, and stars Nikohl Boosheri and Amber Afzali. Nikohl and Amber start things off by sharing heartfelt memories from the set and remark on their meaningful experience filming and bringing this story to life. Roya joins in, and together, they discuss filmmaking as a powerful tool for change in continuing the fight for girls' education, and the importance of representing Afghan women in their entirety on screen. “We don't see courage being in the absence of fear. We see that it's having fear and moving forward anyways.” - Nikohl Boosheri “In Hollywood we don't see Afghanistan represented with the dark and the light. We often focus on the dark and we often see women with faceless identities or not being fully dynamic characters on screen. I felt good knowing that I can make my community proud by engaging in this project; I can make my family proud. And most of all, I could look back on the project and be like, this is something that I think is bigger than me.” - Amber Afzali Rule Breakers is out now in theaters! In an unexpected turn of events, Pilot TV's set visit to the new third (and fourth) season of Apple TV+'s Silo resulted in a sit down interview with both Rebecca Ferguson and the big Apple himself, Tim Cook (27:24). Never one to miss a chance to wax lyrical about Foundation, James cornered the Apple CEO to discuss the streamer's penchant for brilliant nerdy sci-fi. Elsewhere, we review BBC1's latest Strike instalment, The Ink Black Heart (1:19:03), and speak to star Holliday Grainger while we're at it (1:00:45), plus we catch up with Kaley Cuoco's serial killer podcast in the second season of Based On A True Story on Sky (1:31:19). If you want to avoid this and would like the podcast entirely ad-free (as well as 12 hours early, with a second weekly show, and spoiler specials) then sign up to Pilot+ at empire.supportingcast.fm.

There comes a time when we are all tested to our very core. Paul, Javi and — unflappably — Producer Brad all thought that time had come six weeks ago with Grease 2. They were wrong; that time is now. Our faithful co-hosts face their darkest hour as they descend into the dungeon of despair that is The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, a film that makes Grease 2 look (and sound) like Singin' in the Rain. Not even the divine gift of Dolly Parton can save this torturous endeavor, which somehow renders Burt Reynolds abrasively charmless. Join us as we brave our most treacherous moviegoing challenge yet, and are surreally surprised to discover one startling scene of sci-fi (seriously!), and one spellbinding song of sublimity. Along the way, Paul (our resident Texan) will pierce his PTSD with some injections of insight contextualizing the film's real world roots. Trust us, you never want to see this movie, but you definitely want to listen to this episode.
Another guest in the house for a trip back to the 90s with our patron saint of the 'TV Movie' , Tori Spelling in Death of a Cheerleader (1994). This was a more complicated story than we originally thought. We didn't end up loving the movie version and how they essentially manipulated us in the end, but the acting performances were pretty stellar. This includes another batch of hilarious Letterboxd reviews. We get into why we were shocked that the story devolved the way it did, the pretty realistic but impressive fashion, and some interesting cameos. ---Get BONUS episodes on 90s TV and culture (Freaks & Geeks, My So Called Life, Buffy, 90s culture documentaries, and more...) and to support the show join the Patreon! On today's Friday edition, of the Christian Music Guys, we chat with Steven Malcolm! Steven Malcolm makes faith-driven hip-hop that's as unique as his multi-cultural background. It's a sound rooted in rap's rhythmic delivery, pop's modern melodies, and God's word, glued together by an artist whose music has earned five Dove Award nominations and more than 70 million streams. Malcolm is a dynamic storyteller that incorporates a broad range of creative influences into his music. He doubles down on his talents with his most reflective album to date, Tree. All 16-tracks explore Malcolm's spiritual depth and versatility as a hip-hop artist. Each song reverberates like Sunday-morning spirituals filled with Saturday-evening energy. His powerful messages are reinforced with potent production by Grammy-winning heavyweights BoogzDaBeast (Kanye West), Social House (MGK), and FNZ (A$AP Rocky). Malcolm's messages of hope and redemption come from his own experience. Raised in western Michigan and coastal Florida, he grew up in search of stability. His father, a native Jamaican who had emigrated from Montego Bay, was deported back to the Caribbean when Steven was just 9 years old, and later passed away before the two could reunite. Steven's mother struggled as a single parent and eventually left town, leaving her son to fend for himself as a young college student. His life lacked a clear direction until he accepted a friend's invitation to attend a local church service that incorporated hip-hop, dance, and worship. An acronym for “Based On A True Story,” BOATS is poised to transport listeners to a utopia of Malcolm's own creation. “BOATS will take listeners on a journey to Away — an oasis built for the chosen and run by the redeemed,” he shares of the concept behind the record. “Imagine a place where you become what it is you long to become. Imagine a place where your gift makes a way. Imagine a place where its beauty reflects the ones who protect it and its foundation is held together by the stories of the broken. Welcome to Away.” B.O.A.T.S. is out today! stevenmalcolm.com @stevenmalcolmmusic christianmusicguys.com @christianmusicguys --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/christianmusicguys/message

In this episode of the Books for Men podcast, host Douglas Vigliotti discusses the book American Tabloid by James Ellroy. He acknowledges that Ellroy's writing style can be challenging at times, but admires his ability to depict the world as he sees it without pandering to the reader. He believes that Ellroy accomplishes what he intends to do with his writing, even if readers may disagree with his language or style. American Tabloid explores the events leading up to the assassination of JFK, and Vigliotti expresses his belief that the government covered up the truth about the assassination. He discusses the book's theme of the undercurrent of power and dirty work that happens beneath the surface, and how the assassination of JFK was the first domino contributing to the American people's distrust of the government. Vigliotti praises Ellroy's ability to weave real-life characters and events into a fictional narrative, creating an entertaining read. He concludes by encouraging listeners to share the podcast and connect with him on Instagram @douglasvigliotti, and provides information on how to access full transcripts and sign up for the newsletter on the website BooksforMen.org.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the podcast. In this episode of the Books for Men podcast, host Douglas Vigliotti discusses the book A Million Little Pieces by James Frey. The book gained popularity due to an endorsement from Oprah Winfrey, but later faced controversy when it was revealed that a large portion of the story was fabricated. Vigliotti explores the questions raised by this controversy, including the relationship between books, movies, and truth. He also discusses the book's content, which focuses on Frey's six-week stint recovering from alcohol and crack addiction. Vigliotti reflects on the impact of the book and the debate over whether embellishment is necessary to convey the emotional and mental reality of addiction. He also raises questions about the blurred lines between reality and fiction in memoirs and novels. Vigliotti concludes by acknowledging the importance of support and professional help for those battling addiction and shares a quote from the book. He encourages listeners to share the podcast and connect with him on Instagram @douglasvigliotti.If you enjoyed this episode, please consider supporting the podcast.
