In this bittersweet yet exciting episode, I bring you the final chapter of Born Wild: Koda's Odyssey that I'll be narrating here on the podcast. While I originally planned to share the entire book with you, chapter by chapter, we've made the decision to reformat Born Wild for publication and release it as a full audiobook later this year. This means you'll soon be able to experience the entire journey uninterrupted, from beginning to end.But for now, we'll pick up where we left off—a pivotal moment in the story. After the heartbreaking loss of Varo and the capture of Adanowa, the clans are at a crossroads. They face a difficult choice: stay in the comfort of the familiar, despite the ever-growing dangers, or risk everything to set out in search of a safer place. This chapter is packed with emotion, tension, and the essence of what makes Born Wild such a powerful story. Tune in to discover what the clans decide and how their choice shapes the next step in their odyssey.Don't forget—this isn't goodbye! Rodeo Drive has gone wild. Visitors to the luxury street have fallen in love with eight colorful, life-size sculptures of animals – Wild Kong, Standing Bear, Panda and Crocodile – designed by the French artist Richard Orlinski, and part of this summer's “Rodeo Drive Celebrates Fashion”.But sculptures are only part of Orlinski's multifaceted output. He was the artist of record at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he mixes up art with music and stand up comedy, and he has partnerships with international brands including Lancome, Hublot, Puma, and Disney. Now he has written a book – Pourquoi J'ai Cassé les Codes, or “Why I Broke The Codes” – about his life of going against the grain. He stopped off recently in Beverly Hills, and talked with Lyn Winter, host of Rodeo Drive - The Podcast, about his unconventional approach to art and life, starting with why he chose to celebrate wild animals in his sculpture.Animals, he says, have much to teach humans, as they “obey a virtuous circle,” and kill only for food, while humans kill for nothing. He spoke about his personal experience with a violent father, which also laid the ground for his future self: “I realized very early that I have nobody to trust, so I was very alone. And when you like that, you're angry, and you want to succeed.”He says that his fighting spirit helped him deal with initial rejection from the Parisian art world, and develop his mass appeal with a sense of freedom to do his own thing. “I'm not like a niche artist,” he says. “I'm popular, but popular in a good way. I create an emotion, even a bad emotion, but it is emotion.”Orlinski explains his admiration for Andy Warhol, why he opened his own chain of Orlinski galleries, and how he treats art more like fashion - with seasons, and a branded experience that is meant to be fun for people of all ages. The future of art display, he says, is big spaces, where visitors can eat, spend time, and enjoy a multisensory experience. “The competition is always the same. So you have to create, invent something new, and I think the artist and the galleries and the people in this industry need to create something like that.”He also talks about his book, Pourquoi J'ai Cassé les Codes, which has been a hit with the French public. It's a self-help guide of sorts, delivering life lessons from his own experiences. “Many people are very thankful about this book, because it helps them to change, to listen to the little voice inside, to follow their dreams.”While seven of Orlinski's wild creatures will leave Rodeo Drive, one work will remain permanently on view. Which one might that be, asked Winter.“I think it's the Kong with a big heart, and written on the heart is ‘Rodeo Drive', responds Orlinski. “It fits with the place, and it was made for it. This is the only piece that was really made for it.”Season 5 of Rodeo Drive – The Podcast is presented by the Rodeo Drive Committee with the support of The Hayman Family, Two Rodeo Drive, Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, and the Beverly Hills Conference & Visitors Bureau.Season 5 Credits:Executive Producer and Host: Lyn WinterOn behalf of the Rodeo Drive Committee: Kay Monica RoseScriptwriter and Editorial Advisor: Frances AndertonEditor and Videographer: Hans FjellestadTheme music by Brian BanksProduction Assistant: Isabelle AlfonsoListen, subscribe, rate and review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts.Visit the website: https://rodeodrive-bh.com/podcast/Join us on Instagram @rodeodrive Hosted on Acast.

Born Wild is the rambunctious monthly dance party hosted by Jeff Eaton (DJ 810, Modern Life is War), Richie Daggers (D.O.P.E.), and photographer Michael Watson. A diverse cross section of Des Moines nightlife has inhabited the party space at one point or another over the last 3 years just to dance all night or get their picture taken in the photo booth. However, this New Year's Eve (2017) marks the last Born Wild ever as the 3 party gang leaders go their separate ways. In this final interview, we talk about the party's inception and why so many gravitated to it.

Richie Daggers comes back in for part two! It is feisty as we talk about all things BEEF! What grinds our gears and stories of personal conflict at Arby's, at bars, fashion, music and a lot of other bullshit. Unexpectedly, Daggers gets a little personal too, as he goes into questioning his own motivations and drives for preforming after a decade. He also talks about his passion for the Born Wild parties he regularly spins his new brand of "Midwest Booty Wop" at. Just a good time. Hopefully he can come back in 40 more episodes.

Texas-born Jack Harding began his acting career in Odessa at the tender age of 5 with roles in local commercials and print media – after seeing his first musical a couple of years later, he was bitten by the acting bug and has never looked back.  In 1996 Jack opened Center Stage Theatre, a privatelyfinanced enterprise, as an alternative to the other Board-run not-for profit theaters in the area. In two years, Jack and his crew of faithful volunteers produced 15 productions. In 1998 Jack moved to Los Angeles, California where he's made a Texas sized splash in Hollywood. He has been eaten by a giant snake in the SYFY cult hit “Mega Python v/s Gater-oid”, kicked across the Fangtasia bar in HBO's “True Blood”, and played Taco's singing cowboy on FX's “The League”. Harding's short film - LET ME SEE YOUR EYES, which he wrote and stars in, started it's festival circuit with a win for Best Horror Short at the Shriekfest Film Festival 2014. It's official selection roster includes: Thriller Chiller Film Festival - HorrorQuest - Fargo Fantastic Film Festival and Durango Independent Film Festival. His upcoming films include PIRATE'S CODE - THE ADVENTURES OF MICKEY MATSON where he stars with Christopher Lloyd and Frank Collison, and BORN WILD where he stars with Kix Brooks, William Shockley, and Justin Deeley - now available at Walmart and VOD.

Working tirelessly to put wildlife conservation into perspective for the future, my guest today is Tony Fitzjohn, who's approach to conservation is, to say the least - unique. After close to forty years of hands-on field experience and proven results, Tony and his teams from the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust and WildlifeNOW are amongst the foremost authorities in African wildlife conservation today. Tony and his teams work to re-establish ecosystems and protect endangered species through developing partnerships- internationally and locally, educating future generations about conservation efforts and creating local sentiment towards conservation and preservation of their resources and wildlife. From the days of Born Free and Christian the Lion in Kenya, to revitalizing Tanzania's distressed Mkomazi Game Reserve into the National Park it is today, its rhino sanctuary and wild dog breeding program, Tony has pretty much done and seen it all.

This week Libby Purves is joined by Philip Townsend, Alexei Sayle, Tony Fitzjohn and Harriet Mead. Philip Townsend is the celebrated sixties photographer who was renowned for taking the Rolling Stones' first ever photo shoot. In a new exhibition at The Lowry, over sixty images documenting the people, the style and the musical revolution of that decade will be on show, many for the first time including Grace Kelly, Twiggy, The Beatles and private fashion shows at Mary Quant's HQ. Mister Sixties: Philip Townsend's Portraits of a Decade is at The Lowry, Salford Quays. Alexei Sayle is the writer and stand-up comedian who was a central part of the alternative comedy circuit and a star of shows such as The Young Ones. In his newly published memoir he tells of his growing up in Stalinist household in the 1950s and 60s in Liverpool and how it made him want to leave home and become a stand up comic. Stalin At My Homework is pubished by Hodder. Tony Fitzjohn was George Adamson's assistant at Kenya's Kora National Reserve for over eighteen years where they re-introduced lions back into the wild. He now runs the Mkomazi National Park in Tanzania and is one of the world's leading field experts on the relationship between man and African wildlife. His book Born Wild is published by Viking. Harriet Mead is a wildlife artist and the first woman to be elected President of the Society of Wildlife Artists in its 48-year history and the youngest. Working mainly in steel, she uses found objects to construct sculptures of the wildlife around her, using a MIG welder that she describes as a "sewing machine with sparks". The international wildlife exhibition, The Natural Eye, is at the Mall Galleries in London.
