For the second straight episode, we're taking a close look at another underrated Image miniseries! This time around, we're examining Ghost Cage by Nick Dragotta and Caleb Goellner! This three-issue science fiction comic has a ton of the things we love, including dope character designs, immersive worldbuilding, slick action, Mega Man-esque aesthetics, and substantial subtext. It's a book we really dig, and we really enjoyed discussing it. If you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or corrections, we're here. Feel free to hit us up on our socials, or email us! We have a Linktree here: linktr.ee/betweenthegutters Thanks again to Corey J. Beats for producing our theme music. Check out all of his music on various platforms here: linktr.ee/Coreyjbeats

Breaking News! Chris Samnee and Laura Samnee join us in the love nest to discuss their new all-ages comic book series, Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters. Yeah, we're just as surprised about their appearance here as you are, but we're mostly beyond excited to have our first creative couples session with those responsible for one of our favorite comics on the stands. Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters is a lovingly warm adventure tale set in a world of titanic beasts. With their dad missing, Rainbow and Jonna scour the land, stumbling into one danger after another. Thankfully, the littlest sister packs quite a punch. In this week's episode, we chat with the Samnees about why this series demanded collaboration. We celebrate how Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters represents a true family project, inspired by their daughters and Chris Samnee's intense fear of birds. Yeah, we get into it. We're honored to have Chris and Laura on Comic Book Couples Counseling, and you should feel honored too. This episode is the very first podcast Laura Samnee has ever recorded. We hope we haven't scared her off the format forever, but we think it's the start of some tremendous podcast potential. Jonna and the Unpossible Monsters Volume 1 is currently available from Oni Press. Volume 2 will appear on comic book shelves on April 6th, and issue #9 will arrive in shops on April 20th. The comic is written by Chris Samnee and Laura Samnee, featuring art by Chris Samnee, colors by Matthew Wilson, and letters by Crank! We do not give away too many spoilers beyond the premise, so venture within safely if you're new to this world. After this conversation, we're confident that you'll be as addicted to Jonna as much as we are, demanding at least a seventy-five issue run. Be sure to continue this conversation with Chris Samnee via his Twitter and Instagram. You can also give Laura's one Instagram photo a Like by clicking HERE. If you'd like to listen to the Ghost Cage #1 Interview with Nick Dragotta and Caleb Goellner referenced in the outro, you can do so by clicking HERE. And here are the relevant Saga Marko & Alana links: Saga Volume 1 Saga Volume 2 Saga Volume 3 Saga Volume 4 Saga Volume 5 Saga Volumes 6 & 7 Finally, of course, follow Comic Book Couples Counseling on Facebook, on Instagram, and on Twitter @CBCCPodcast, and you can follow hosts Brad Gullickson @MouthDork & Lisa Gullickson @sidewalksiren. Comics Alliance editors Andy Khouri and Caleb Goellner sit down with Chris and Matt this week for a roundtable discussion New York Comic-Con, and things go to weird, weird places. Among the topics: Lack of cell phone and wi-fi at the convention center leading to caveman tactics, Conan on a sailboat, Catwoman’s “stripper idiom,” the lack of big news at the con, Andy’s debilitating con injury, whether the Marvel layoffs were foreshadowed at all at the con, the best Power Rangers season, which one of us would look best in hot pants, violence against Michelangelo and much more! Plus, Chris and Matt take a biased stance in favor of Adam Warrock.
Hi all! The CDB Crew is back again for our season finale with special guest Jared! We talk about Our Dreams at Dusk vol. 1 by Yuhki Kamatani (Seven Seas) which was Jared's choice. We discuss the themes of finding one's identity, the negative side of school life, finding one's tribe, and much more. Overall it was an interesting and fun conversation to be had by all. Also at the end, Brian accidentally gets everyone on a Ms. Marvel MCU TV show conversation that also proved to be pretty interesting though way off topic.Other books discussed on this episode: Count Crowley Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter #1-4 and Count Crowley Amateur Midnight Monster Hunter #1 by David Dastmalchian, Lukas Ketner, Lauren Affe, and Frank Cvetkovic (Dark Horse); Taproot by Keezy Young (Roar); Ghost Cage #1 by Nick Dragotta, Caleb Goellner, Rus Wooten; and Frank Martin Jr.; and Welcome to the N.H.K. by Tatsuhiko Takimoto and Yoshitoshi ABe (Kodokawa Shoten/Tokyopop) DIY Corner:Carmen adapted into a graphic novel with lots of great comic creators involved https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/arizonaopera/carmen-the-graphic-novel?ref=section-homepage-view-more-discovery-p1Pat Shand's two NSFW Graphic Novels on Kickstarter: "Thirsty" and "Cheeky" https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/patshand/thirsty-a-graphic-novel?ref=discovery&term=Pat%20Shand Non-Profits:Suicide Prevention Hotline: https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org/The Trevor Project: https://www.thetrevorproject.org/Comics Deserve Better is a weekly podcast hosted by Brian, Carrie, Darci and Richard which covers the world of Independent Comics.
