Miliardi di cicale stanno per emergere dal suolo e nei prossimi mesi invaderanno buona parte degli Stati Uniti. Non è la prima volta che succede, ma è raro che emergano due covate nello stesso momento e per questo c'è grande attenzione, non solo da parte degli entomologi, ma anche dei media che parlano di “Cicadageddon”. Non dite che non vi ho avvertito!TRASCRIZIONE [ENG translation below]Oggi vi voglio parlare di una cosa un po' schifosa: la vita di queste povere cicale, questi bellissimi insetti che hanno una vita molto lunga, e a volte si mettono sotto terra per tanti anni, 13 anni, 17 anni, e poi risalgono in superficie per accoppiarsi.Ma andiamo direttamente ai dettagli più schifosi di questa cosa qua. Che succede alle povere cicale? Allora le cicale hanno un nemico: un fungo che infetta la cicala dal suo interno, un fungo parassita, la castra e sostituisce gli organi genitali della cicala con un tappo di spore, allora la cicala non si rende nemmeno conto di avere questo fungo dentro, quindi va in giro e continua ad accoppiarsi e mentre si accoppia continua a spargere questo fungo.Perché la cicala non si accorge che ha dentro il fungo che la sta mangiando dall'interno gli organi interni? Perché il fungo le inietta un potentissimo allucinogeno, un'anfetamina, psilocibina, che è la stessa sostanza che è contenuta nei funghi magici. Quindi questa cicala è possibile che vada in giro, anche con metà del corpo mancante, e cerca disperatamente di accoppiarsi.Un altro nemico dalla povera cicala è la vespa assassina. Già dal nome ci fa capire che è un personaggio niente male. Cosa fa la vespa assassina? Cattura la cicala in volo, la immobilizza con una cosa, non un sonnifero, qualcosa che la paralizza, porta il corpo della cicala ancora vivo, la mantiene in vita, e dentro la cicala, ci mette le larve. Le larve escono e cominciano a mangiare la cicala dal suo interno, lasciando per ultimo gli organi nervosi, così la cicala rimane viva più a lungo possibile, poi, quando non ne possono proprio più, le larve mangiano anche l'ultimo organo vitale e mamma vespa killer porta un'altra cicala, sempre paralizzata, e le larve ci entrano dentro e continuano a mangiare la loro, la loro via verso l'uscita fin quando saranno pronte a uscire sotto forma di vespa.Sì, queste povere cicale hanno una vita molto difficile, come potete vedere sono degli animali bellissimi, affascinanti e rumorosissimi, vengono fuori d'estate, per darvi un'idea del rumore che fanno le cicale, se non le avete mai sentite, possono raggiungere anche 100 decibel che il rumore di una sega elettrica a pochi centimetri dal vostro orecchio, attenzione a non farvi male stando così vicino alla sega elettrica.Sono degli insetti incredibilmente affascinanti, anche molto longevi, anche se la maggior parte della vita la vivono sottoterra, aspettando il momento giusto per uscire fuori, infatti hanno questi cicli stranissimi di due, cinque, ma anche 13, 17 anni, 13 e 17 sono due numeri primi. Perché? It catches the cicada in flight, immobilises it with something, not a sleeping fluid, something that paralyses it, brings the body of the cicada still alive, keeps it alive, and inside the cicada, it puts the larvae. Conclusa la produzione delle banconote canadesi, i falsari si dedicarono a quella delle banconote di taglio da due dollari americani. Nonostante gli estenuanti tentativi, e la miscelazione dei colori, la banda dei falsari non riuscì a raggiungere la giusta tonalità delle banconote da due dollari. Alla fine delle prove Cicala arrivò alla conclusione che occorreva incaricare uno specialista in inchiostri per ottenere l'effetto desiderato. La produzione di banconote falsificate nella fattoria di Highland riprese ai primi di febbraio. All'inizio di marzo, Comito si recò con Cicala a New York al numero 5 di Jones Street. Il viaggio fu finalizzato all'incontro con tale Giuseppe Calicchio. Nato in Campania nel 1858, Calicchio era arrivato a New York nel 1906. Calicchio accettò e si recò, assieme agli altri due, nelle Highland. Egli ritoccò e migliorò i clichè, che vennero montate sulla macchina da stampa, e iniziò a mescolare sapientemente gli inchiostri in modo da iniziare a stampare un nuovo lotto di banconote contraffatte da 2 dollari. Comito e Calicchio stamparono circa 32.000 nuove banconote da due dollari. Alla fine di maggio Cinà tornò alla fattoria. Lì informò i falsari che l'attività di contraffazione doveva terminare. Inoltre venne l'incarico di smantellare la tipografia poiché era preoccupato per la continua sorveglianza della polizia. Successivamente la banda di Morello ricevette molti ordini per la falsificazione delle banconote da $ 2. Infatti il procedimento della stampa, che era stato migliorato, fu considerato un successo. Una notte due sconosciuti arrivarono sino alla fattoria, e dopo aver bussato alla porta, chiesero di parlare con il proprietario. Vincent e Comito mentirono riferendo che erano solo degli operai della fattoria e che erano stati assunti per la raccolta delle ciliegie. I due sconosciuti a quel punto si allontanarono affermando che sarebbero ritornati. Comito, innervosito da quella visita inaspettata, fuggì a New York. They have worked together to design and implement a truly unique tail spend management program.
