THE CONJURING from 2013 was one of the most successful ghost story horror films in a long time.  Not only did it get respect from both horror fans and critics alike, but the movie spun off to its own universe.  Since then, spin off movies such as THE NUN (2018) and ANNABELLE (2014) have happened, where ANNABELLE became its own film series.  Now in 2021, THE CONJURING:  THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT (also known as THE CONJURING 3) has arrived. In 1981, young Connecticut man Arne Johnson (Ruairi O'Connor) murders his fiancé's boss.  After being arrested, the Warrens (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) tell the defense attorney that Arne was possessed by a demon when he committed the atrocious act.  With most not believing such a story, the Warrens go out and investigate the crime discovering that another murder up in Danvers, Massachusetts may be related.  Soon their worries may indeed be true. THE CONJURING 3 is the first film in the movie franchise that does not have James Wan directing.  Instead Michael Chaves takes the helm directing a script by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.  Though the franchise is well known for its quality, this third installment received mixed to positive reviews by critics.  Dark Discussions takes a look at the film and gives their opinion.

On the next installment of the Talkin' TV summer series, we have the next big HBO Max drop with the Conjuring 3: The Devil made me Do It! The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is a 2021 American supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves, with a screenplay by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick from a story by Johnson-McGoldrick and James Wan. The film serves as a sequel to The Conjuring (2013) and The Conjuring 2 (2016), and as the eighth installment in the Conjuring Universe. Wan and Peter Safran return to produce the film, which is based on the trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, a murder trial that took place in 1981 Connecticut. Initial development for a third Conjuring film began in 2016, though Wan stated that he would not be directing another film in the series due to scheduling conflicts with other projects. Safran confirmed that the next film would not be a haunted house film. By June 2017, it was officially announced that a third installment was in development, with David Leslie Johnson hired to write the screenplay. Michael Chaves was announced as the film's director, after previously directing The Curse of La Llorona (2019). Filming took place in Georgia in summer 2019. Originally slated for a September 2020 release, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The #talkintv boys discuss everything that this film did right (and wrong) in comparison to the first two, how it portrays the Warrens this time around, and whether it was worth seeing in theaters or better going right to streaming? This episode was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. Update on hosting duties this back half.. As some of you might know, Brian has been running the show over at Star Trek Picard Cast and it’s been time consuming for him. But don’t worry as Mark crossed over to jailbreak Kyle from Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through and freed him from Virginia’s prison community. So he will be with us for the remainder of this season. (Unless Virginia figured out how to cross time and space) And Brian hopefully will be able to join us at a later date once things quiet down. Caves, Explosions, Naked Bodies, Oh My! Well there seems to be a theme among everyone’s feedback this week. “Gross!” Naked Negan and Alpha bumping uglies (thank god they didn’t show that) had everyone cringe. While it worked to show Negan make inroads…ewww… i mean infiltrating the Whisperers. It was a lot that could have been left unseen. And the word God Episode 165 - Rental Movie Review: 19. 0329 Aquaman 2018 PG-13 2hr 38 min IMDb 7.2/10, Action Adventure Fantasy. 65% Fresh Tomatoes Action Adventure Science Fiction Fantasy Starring: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe with Patrick Wilson Nicole Kidman and Dolph Lundgren Director: James Wan. Written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick et al. PG-13 for sequences of SciFi Violence and action and for some language I watched this movie primarily because there was a two for one special at Redbox. It had not been on my list of must see movies. After watching it I must admit my gut was right on this one. This movie was horrendously long and did not blow my skirt up. Some of the amusing bits of this movie were not from the movie itself but the silliness of his alter ego name of Arthur and how the true king is the only one to pull the sword from the stone; I mean trident from the previous king. This goes back to my belief that all stories stem from but about a dozen. Almost every story is an incarnation/iteration of a previous one...or perhaps some sort of mashup. While I can admire that lean and length of Aquaman’s physique I don’t get how some women are swooning over this guy. Maybe it is me...I have never been a swooner. Things I liked: Mera’s superpower; it was really cool that she was able to manipulate water in a such a way. The costumes were fabulous for the most part The sets and venues were pretty stinkin’ cool The fact that there were a few fun moments in the film particularly some which were unexpected. Things I did not like: Too much CGA, a good part of this movie was a cartoon and I find that bothersome. The fight scenes’ choreography was lack luster and tipped into boring at times. The green outfit that Mera was wearing.... The shade of red Mera’s hair was, silly I know. Overall this movie was okay and I am glad I did not pay full price at the theater or at Redbox to watch it. I found it a little too hokey for my taste. Sometimes I like hokey but yesterday. Watch this movie if you are a DC comic fan Watch this movie if you are the person who likes eye candy Watch this movie if you are okay with a lot of computer generated animation. Watch if you are good at suspending your disbelief. Can you tell I was less than thrilled with this movie? That is all I have for this one Links to reviews and ratings are absent because my internet went down thanks to the City digging on my property. I will add them as soon as I can. Talking Through Chokepoint! On this episode 95 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and special guest co-host Lara talk through The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 13, which is titled, Chokepoint. This was written by Eddie Guzelian & David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and directed by Liesl Tommy. SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!! The rest of this blog post requires a SPOILER WARNING!!! If you haven’t watched this week’s episode, then you probably should stop now. Testing Beta… This episode features a big fight between Daryl and Beta, the Whisperers’ henchman and second in command. I thought it was a really good scene, but Mark was a bit underwhelmed. A couple of new couples? Some people are shipping Connie and Daryl. Will it be Donnie? Dannie? Darnie? Coryl? Conyl? I, for one, would like to see Daryl get a girlfriend, and they’d be cute together if they’d just take a bath. It’s about time, but that’s yet to be seen. On the other hand, we see more puppy love going on between the hapless Henry and former Whisperer Lydia. I think it’s dangerous for Henry, but she’s cute and you can’t help who you fall in love with, especially in the apocalypse. Henry was less annoying for me this episode, although I was annoyed that he fell in the Cold Open. When was the last time you have seen a movie? The Kingdom is challenged for ransom, as a new group threatens to challenge the fair. There’s a standoff, but in a severe and welcome change of pace, Carol offers this new group, which actually wrote out a list of demands in proper English, a chance to see a movie in exchange for security for comers and goers to the fair. I thought this was brilliant. This week, TWD S9E13 Chokepoint got a 1.77 in the 18-49 demographic with 4.831 million viewers, up from 1.73 in the 18-49, and 4.708 million last week. Talking Dead, on the other hand, was up quite a bit more over last week. It got a 0.71 in the 18-49 and 2.031 million viewers, down from 0.53 and 1.696 million respectively. That’s it for Chokepoint! I enjoyed Chokepoint, although I’m not sure about Mark and Lara though! Thanks to Lara for subbing in for me this week! Talking Through Evolution On this episode 90 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I discuss The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 8, which is titled Evolution. This was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. Mark loved this episode, but I didn’t. Some choices were bothering me this time around. SPOILER ALERT!!! SPOILER ALERT!!! The rest of this blog post requires a SPOILER WARNING!!! If you haven’t watched this week’s episode, then you probably should stop now. Surprising death… of the character and his jingle!!! I am not afraid to admit that I enjoyed my Jesus jingle. I enjoyed it a lot more than the character, so now that he’s gone in spectacular fashion, I am sad to see it go. Don’t get me wrong. I am sad to see Jesus go, but he never lived up to his hype. He was just another character on the show. I know he was a much-loved character from the comic book, but in the show, he was underutilized. I never felt like I got to know him very well. He was always in the background. He went out in a great sequence, in a surprising turn. It’s sad that he actually lived up to some of his potential in his last scene. What happened? Would you please just tell us what happened??? We get more of this hinting that there’s a big rift between Alexandria and the other communities. Strike that… Not between Alexandria, but Michonne and the other communities. Everyone is giving her the cold shoulder this episode: Tara, Enid, Dianne, and even Carol. Yes, they talk, but notice how they didn’t hug? Whatever happened, I’m starting to feel manipulated, much like I did before we found out the fate of Madison in Season 4 of Fear. I just wish they would tell us what happened. Too much teenage angst for a mid-season finale! The trials and tribulations of Henry were things we had seen before, both from Fear S3E3 TEOTWAWKI when Alicia met with the kids of Broke Jaw Ranch, and TWD S5E12 Remember, with Carl meeting Enid and Ron, and then later with Aiden and Nicholas’ walker plaything. I really didn’t need to see this stuff in the mid-season finale. Instead of getting a lot more information about this Michonne vs. everyone else that keeps being hinted at, we get more of Henry. It’s not that I don’t think we should have seen that – it was a timing issue. It could have waited for the back half. Instead, we have 2 1/2 months to wait for any of that to be explained; I could have really used that to be explained a lot more, and I wasn’t waiting for Henry’s story or the other angsty teens. By the way, using cats as bait is not cool. That kid is a serial killer wanna-be!!! Thankfully, ratings are up for Evolution… This week, TWD got a 1.96 in the 18-49, with 5.089 million, up from 1.80 and 4.794 million last week. That’s down from the two episodes previous to that, but some of that can be explained because of the long holiday. Charts below.

Talking Through The Bridge! On this episode 84 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 2, which is titled The Bridge. It was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer. We both loved this one and are happy about the direction the show is going so far. Poor Aaron… There’s a great action sequence at the lumber camp, featuring the log rolling, a work accident, some great melee combat and Rick shooting the logs free and the awesome destruction unleashed as a result. Aaron’s arm is gruesomely crushed, with flesh and bone showing. Enid is forced to think on her feet and do what she had no choice to do and amputate Aaron’s arm, with Siddiq being back at home dealing with a bug that’s hit Alexandria. For me, this was one of the best sequences on the show in recent seasons, with outstanding special effects and makeup to make Aaron’s injury so realistic. I was very impressed with these scenes, although some of the backstory was a little sketchy. Why would they put slacker Justin in charge of that second siren post? Did he get what he deserved at the end of the episode? I think so! Love… Exciting and New! Friendships strained… We saw some couples this episode, old and new. New couples Jerry and Nabila, Ezekiel and Carol, Anne and Gabriel, established couple (but new to us) Tammy Rose and Earl and, of course, staples Team Richonne! Were you surprised about Anne and Gabriel? Let’s not forget the strained friendships of Rick and Daryl, Michonne and Maggie, and Maggie and Jesus (to a lesser extent). I look forward to how these develop – how many will survive? Ratings are way down… As you can see from these rating and viewer charts, created by me, you’ll see that the 18-49 rating hit an all-new low at 1.98, and the 4.937 million is the lowest since S1E4 Vatos. It is normal for ratings for the second episode to be lower than the premiere, but the decline cannot be denied. To contrast, last week got a 2.49 in the 18-49 with 6.076 million viewers. Talking Through Worth On this episode number 79 of The Walking Dead Talk Through, Mark and I talk through Season 8, Episode 15 of The Walking Dead, which is titled Worth. This episode was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick & Corey Reed, and directed by Michael Slovis. Bye Bye Simon! This episode was good but not as good as some of the others in the second half. It did bring an end to one of the most interesting characters on this show, and certainly of the Saviors: Simon. A lot of people will miss Simon, myself included. Negan’s Plan… I really enjoyed how Negan played Simon and Dwight, although Mark was less impressed. For me, I knew that Negan had some tricks up his sleeve based on the end of the episode, so I was expecting there to be shenanigans. I couldn’t help but notice that Negan, by the end, was committed to following the same course of action as Simon wanted to follow. Rick, you finally read the letter!!! Rick finally read Carl’s letter. It was about time. I wonder if any of it will sink in. I liked the Chandler Riggs reading, as I expected him to do. I enjoyed Michonne reading Carl’s letter to Negan to him. Like Rick, he couldn’t hear it. In the end, I think that good guy/bad guy reversal last week was transient, and I think both characters will go back to their usual places. I can’t Oh Eugene him anymore… Eugene has gone past redemption at this point. I think he’s fully committed to Negan in a way that is more despicable than in the past. I just want him dead! Dwighty Boy, you are in trouble! It took all episode, but it is finally revealed that Laura was, in fact, the person Negan picked up at the end of last week’s episode. It all made sense, and I enjoyed Negan’s long play in this episode, but Mark didn’t. He thought it was a bit contrived. Dwight’s in trouble. It’s interesting that Negan didn’t kill Dwight like he did Simon, but as he says, people are a resource. I guess Simon had gone past reform. Ratings are up! Worth got a 2.81 in the 18-49 demographic, with 6.665 million viewers, up from last week‘s 2.63 and 6.295 million viewers. Regular Deadline… For Now Next week, we’ll be covering S8E16, titled Wrath, and S4E1 of Fear the Walking Dead, titled What’s Your Story? We are doing a special two-part roundtable episode next week, so we may not cover feedback
