Lacy writes: Hi Robb and Nicki! I 1st want to thank you for all that you do, you are truly changing the world! I am a mom of 3 kids, ages 4, 3 and 5 months and I work full time. As you can imagine, I have a lot on my plate but am trying my hardest to be as healthy as possible: I do the best that I can with sleep (as best one can do with young children), usually infrared light, attempt to eat healthy/get sufficient protein, workout, etc. but feel like I am spinning my wheels getting nowhere. Each pregnancy has added pounds and with each additional child I find less and less time to get quality workouts in. I guess my question is, as parents who have "been there" what would you recommend prioritizing? I am currently at my heaviest weight but am breastfeeding (VERY successfully partly due to LMNT) and find that my milk supply suffers everytime I try to lose weight and I'm sure my hormones are absolutely jacked up due to being pregnant and/or breastfeeding for the past 5 years (&counting). First off I wanted to thank you both for having a significant impact on my health and wellness. I started training bjj over 10 years ago (when I still had braces) and it wasn't until our gym started following you and the Paleo lifestyle that all the wounds in my mouth started magically healing and I could finally sleep through the night. I am amazed by how undereducated our society is about the importance of the food (and poison) we put into our bodies. I really appreciate the effort you two put forth to make better humans. I recently started getting into podcasts so I apologize if you've already covered this: How reliable are DEXA scans? I just got one done and the results were shocking to say the least. I am a 34y/o female, 5'2, never had a child, I weighed in at 112 lbs, wear size 0 jeans and this thing marked me at 32% body fat. According to their chart, that puts me in the category of obese. Is this exactly what they mean by skinny fat? Like I'm just fat and bones, no muscle? *Mind blown emoji* I will admit, in the past year I haven't been training. I am active duty military, got promoted just about 12 months ago, and I feel like I have no time for myself in my life anymore. Do I cook, sleep, do laundry or finish my homework in my limited spare time? I would say, if anything, that I am definitely calorie restricted unintentionally, which worries me about training if I barely have time to eat as it is. I guess the other part of my question is how do I start over? Eating sufficiently? Training? Destressing? I have 4 more years before I retire, but until then I need to find small successes so that I don't wreck my body in the meantime. Thank you again! You're my favorite podcast every week. P.S. We consume a lot of outside feedback and information constantly. There is mental clutter flying at us from all directions and I think we all feel like there's a lot coming at us all the time. We feel a sense of duty to show up and take it all on. But it leaves us exhausted, tired and depleted, and we all recognize that we need to take care of ourselves in order to take care of everyone else we care about.What does it mean to refill your cup? We all want to fill our cup, but the well is empty. When we turn the tap on, there's no water flowing.So how do we get it to come back on?We need a break for ourselves. Not for our kids, or our spouses, coworkers, or businesses. We need to stop. We are afraid though that if we stop, it will all fall apart and our lives will break. We are terrified that if we step off the wheel, we'll never get back on it.This is a symptom of taking too long to have taken the break. The fear grows from withholding, not from giving and taking. We want to be allowed to care about each other and about ourselves in a human way. We need pauses to allow rest and refilling.And the refilling – the source of nourishment and water – arises without effort. It takes time for the well to refill. But if we stop drawing from it long enough, nature takes care of this for us.Part of this nourishment and trust in life comes from stopping long enough to be held by the universe, to allow that just for those moments, nothing is needed from you other than just existing. And existing is enough. The nourishment will flow in. You can relax, and it will be OK.Doing something for delight and no other reason can help a lot. Rolling around on the floor to see if it feels nice, closing your eyes in a sunbeam and enjoying the warmth – these things are unusual for most of us, and the novelty of it is so nourishing. It breaks the monotony and boringness of our everyday.What kind of fun, cool thing do you want to do? What if it could be effortless to just show up to that moment and enjoy it? This desire to break the monotony is why we LOVE vacations! But we can embrace this desire and build it into everyday moments.If you feel like your well is empty – consider that you aren't limited to only one well. If yours has dried up, you can find another water source! But you have to move. You have to try something different. But it will be so worth it.Follow your joy, discover more water, and freely share it! There will be more. We are John and Karen, parents of two incredible kids, who love family time, especially time spent walking on the beach or hiking in the backcountry, enjoying the beauty of the world around us. We are on a mission to show other family's how they can achieve more, live more, be more, have more. Right Now. With the income you currently have. We were just like you, living a “normal” life: House, cars, kids, vacation once or twice a year, sports, grocery shopping… We would commute to work and then rush home to have dinner with the kids, play outside for a bit and then watch a show and get ready for bed to do it all over again the next day. So what happened? After one of our vacations, we woke up and realized that we wanted more out of life. We wanted to spend more time with each other and our kids. So we had this Crazy idea… What if we travel the world? With our kids? Before they grow up? Once this idea was spoken, we couldn't stop thinking about it. Was it the “right” choice to make for our family? Did it make sense to even think of this as a possibility? Hours upon hours, upon weeks, upon months of conversation, we came to the conclusion that this was something that we HAD to do. Only ONE BIG PROBLEM: We didn't have the money! Despite all of John's experience as a Financial Advisor and later a Wall Street trader for a small company, we had never “hit it big”. We had kept our heads above water through 4 job losses (within seemingly stable careers), multiple out-of-states moves, and a failed real estate flip. So how could we possibly make this happen without jobs that could be done remotely? Without a pile of cash? Fast Forward 7 "short” months. We boarded a plane with one-way tickets to begin our new traveling journey. Our first destination? Bali. We had gone from $0 to having 1-year's worth of expenses saved up. The process that we discovered became the foundation for our Financial Alignment Program.
