In this episode, I speak with Virginia Ehrlich. Virginia is the owner and founder of Acre75 Gathered, a Canadian subscription box dedicated to supporting small-town economies and the businesses that sustain them. Every item we feature in our seasonal boxes is made or designed in a small town in Canada with fewer than 30,000 residents.  Virginia embodies the spirit of small towns, big dreams. As the founder and owner of Acre75 Gathered, a Canadian subscription box dedicated to supporting small town economies, she has partnered with over 150 small businesses since launching in 2017—infusing nearly $1,000,000 into local communities across the country. The power of self-compassion has deeply shaped her journey as an e-commerce entrepreneur, and she's now on a mission to encourage others to extend that same grace and love to themselves as they pursue their own dreams. Graduation season is here! Excitement is in the air as students prepare for the next chapter, but for many, this transition brings a mix of anticipation and anxiety. As students face uncertainty about their future, mental health remains a top concern. In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we're joined by Joshua Mayfield, Interim Program Director of the Resilience in Your Student Experience (RISE) Center at UCLA. With a background in pastoral care and counseling, Joshua shares practical insights on supporting student wellness and overcoming imposter syndrome. He also explores the crucial difference between self-care and self-soothing, and shares how you can make sure your habits are truly helping you thrive. Joshua completed his Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry with an emphasis in Pastoral Care and Counseling at Boston College in Massachusetts. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Marketing at Loyola Marymount University. Born and raised in Long Beach, California, he has always been passionate about people, community, and the ways in which we “do life together”. Seeking more opportunity to serve college students and work in the field of mental health, Joshua gladly accepted a position at RISE where he is so happy to continue community building and walking with college students. In Episode 135 of the "Best Coach Ever" podcast, we tackle the all-too-familiar struggle of burnout and overwhelm in the world of online coaching. First off, let's be real—running a coaching business can be mentally and emotionally exhausting. Whether it's creating content, juggling multiple roles, or making endless decisions, it's easy to get overwhelmed. I've been there, and I know so many of you have too.Next, let's talk about that “100 miles per hour” pace some of you are stuck in. Sure, working hard feels good when you're motivated, but if you burn out and drop off the radar for weeks, you're sabotaging your own success. Consistency is key, and building a manageable work routine is non-negotiable if you want to avoid the crash-and-burn cycle. And while we're at it, can we stop with the decision paralysis? Perfection isn't the goal here—B-minus decisions will move your business forward faster than overthinking ever will. Plus, boundaries around your work hours and clients? Total game-changer. You need time to recharge, not respond to messages 24/7.Despite the pressures, you can run a successful business without sacrificing your well-being. So, let's practice some self-compassion, take those breaks, and remember, it's okay to slow down. If you're feeling stuck in the burnout loop, you know where to find me. Let's keep moving forward, but at a pace that lets you enjoy the ride.In this episode, I cover:Introduction and Topic Overview [0:00 - 3:14]- Introduction to the topic of burnout and overwhelm.  - Personal reflections on my struggles with burnout. The Reality of Burnout in Coaching [3:15 - 5:59]- Explaining how coaching, content creation, and decision-making can lead to exhaustion.  - Validating the difficulties of running a business and how it's common to experience burnout. The "100 Miles Per Hour" Trap [6:00 - 8:59]- The pattern of going all-in until burnout, followed by a period of inaction.  - The importance of pacing and creating consistent work habits to avoid this cycle.Managing Time Effectively [9:00 - 11:59]- Encouragement to use Google Calendar or digital tools to manage time.  - Building boundaries around work hours to protect mental health.Setting Work Boundaries [12:00 - 18:29]- Why it's important to establish a routine with specific work hours.  - Sharing my own boundaries: working from Sunday to Thursday and clocking out by 5-6 p.m.Overcoming Decision Fatigue [18:30 - 22:59]- Decision fatigue is a common cause of burnout.  - Tips for reducing fatigue, including getting help from a coach and being okay with “B-minus” decisions.Practicing Self-Care [23:00 - 33:09]- The need for regular exercise, sleep, and mental health practices.  - Personal strategies, like journaling, walking, and hobbies that help disconnect from work.Self-Compassion and Reflection [33:10- 41:22]- Encouraging you to be kind to yourself, stop judging your progress, and embrace imperfections.  - A reminder to appreciate the effort being put into building a business.Final Thoughts and Encouragement [41:23 - End]- Encouraging you to take breaks, set boundaries, and practice self-care.  - Wrapping up with a reminder that business success doesn't require sacrificing personal well-being.

Did you know September is Self-Care Awareness Month? Well, it is - so let's talk about it. As I'm sure you know by now, running a retail business is rewarding, but it can also be overwhelming. This episode of the Creative Shop Talk Podcast focuses on self-care for retail shop owners.   As retail shop owners, we must remember that self-care isn't selfish at all.   It's SO important to avoid burnout in your retail business. So let's talk about being the CEO of your life, not just your business.  Some points discussed in this episode: Self-Care Awareness Month: This is the perfect time to step back and decide what self-care means for you and what works to help you feel cared for in your personal life and in your biz Your life needs you: I chat about checking in on different areas of your life and why you need to prioritize them. Health and Energy: Focus on your health by optimizing sleep, movement, and nutrition. Small improvements in these areas lead to greater energy, which fuels your business. Mental Health: Be mindful of stress and anxiety. Recognize the signs of overworking, and take steps to relax, such as reducing screen time and practicing mindfulness.  Set Boundaries: Learn to say “no” to things that drain your energy and be clear about your goals. When you are planned out and clear about your priorities, it's easier to manage the day-to-day.  People: Surround yourself with people who lift you up. Be intentional about being in the room with people who have a solution mindset, not a complaint mindset, those who give you energy, not take it.  Hobbies and Joy: Rediscover hobbies and activities that make you happy. (Yes, you need to make time for fun and joy). This doesn't just benefit you—it helps everyone around you. "Pay attention to the tension. We unintentionally ignore some areas of our lives unless we're being intentional. So, what do you need to feel alive and thrive?" - Wendy Batten When you take care of yourself, you can show up stronger for your business and your loved ones. So tell me: what does self-care look like for you? What are your best tips? And remember: running a retail business doesn't have to be so hard - and you don't have to do it alone! Social media has given marginalized communities a powerful platform to share their experiences and challenge dominant narratives.Academic credentials often come with privilege and can grant individuals access to mainstream media platforms, even if they lack direct experience or understanding of the communities they speak about.Finding balance and practicing self-care is essential for sustaining activism and making a meaningful impact.Authentic activism requires going beyond performative actions and engaging in deep reflection and understanding of the issues at hand.Marketing plays a significant role in perpetuating stereotypes and Islamophobia, and it is important to challenge and dismantle these narratives.Creating space for marginalized voices and supporting women in their journeys of self-discovery and empowerment can have a ripple effect in creating positive change. 00:00 - Introduction and Welcome01:01 - Dr. Rose Aslan's Journey and Dedication to Empowerment06:05 - Navigating the Challenges of Life08:37 - The Ebb and Flow of Life33:21 - The Power of Social Media and Amplifying Marginalized Voices34:12 - Navigating Different Worlds: Challenges in Academia36:05 - Finding Balance and Practicing Self-Care in Activism38:35 - Authentic Activism: Going Beyond Performative Actions42:10 - The Role of Marketing in Perpetuating Stereotypes and Islamophobia53:21 - Supporting Women in Creating Change: A Ripple EffectSupport the Show.Find out more about Rose's work here: https://lnk.bio/dr.rose.aslanWebsite: https://compassionflow.comSupport Rahma with Rose so I can keep producing more episodes here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2197727/supporters/new Music credits: Vocals: Zeynep Dilara Aslan; Ney/drum: Elif Önal; Tanbur: Katherine Hreib; Rebap: Hatice Gülbahar Hepsev

This week Tee welcomes Sweta Vikram for a wonderful conversation about Ayurvedic self-care practices and her journey into embracing an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Sweta is an international speaker, best-selling author, and Doctor of Ayurveda with a postgraduate degree in Sports Nutrition. Sweta's journey began after consistently questioning the uniformity of dietary recommendations across diverse backgrounds. Before embracing Ayurveda, Sweta found herself on the cancer watchlist, struggling for breath in the emergency room, and had to put her life on hold for six months to heal. Despite growing up in a Hindi household where Ayurveda was an unknowingly integral part of daily life, influencing food choices, seasonal eating habits, and the therapeutic use of spices, Sweta's immersion into the study and practice of Ayurveda was catalyzed by this personal health crisis and the heartbreaking loss of her mother nearly a decade ago. Her story is documented in Sweta's new book, The Loss That Binds Us, a heartfelt guide through grief filled with profound wisdom and a compassionate touch. In this chat, Tee and Sweta discuss her journey from rebelling against childhood teachings to rediscovering Ayurveda as a holistic way of life that addresses nutrition, mental well-being, and productivity. She emphasizes the importance of listening to one's body, practicing mindfulness, and incorporating Ayurvedic principles like eating seasonally and managing stress through natural means rather than quick pharmaceutical solutions. Sweta suggests simple, practical steps for integrating Ayurveda into daily life, such as checking in with oneself every morning, engaging in regular movement, and starting the day with warm water. The conversation also touches on the significance of detoxification, both physically and mentally, by avoiding processed foods and maintaining a disciplined lifestyle in harmony with nature's rhythms. Early on, Katherine knew something was missing from her day-to-day routine of being a disabled single mom of children impacted with mental illness. But she couldn't put her finger on what was missing. She was too tired, and life was hard. Instead, Katherine maintained an outwardly sunny disposition because she feared that if she let that smile crack, she would lose it. But the kids grew up and moved out, giving Katherine time to reflect on her experience raising children with mental health issues. Only then could she identify what was missing all those years. How could she not see it sooner? Katherine never practiced self-care. With all the activity and craziness, Katherine never took time to care for herself. To replenish her tank. It took her twenty years to realize how much her journey could have been improved had she taken care of herself, even in small ways like having a beautiful bar of soap to use or a face mask to apply to rejuvenate her spirits. That is when it dawned on Katherine that she was the perfect person to create these products for other stressed-out women. Women on the Verge. Katherine realized her mission, and Sargent Bubbles was launched. Katherine and Sargent Bubbles is a way for women to buoy their spirits that could be completed within the time constraints of a busy single person - and will leave her feeling human again. Katherine firmly believes everyone should practice self-care but that it is crucial for busy people who think they “don't have time for things like that.” Those folks especially need self-care, and Katherine is committed to healing their skin...and spirits. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/happinessjourney/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/happinessjourney/support

Kenny  goal of the conversation today is to help leaders figure out how to create meaning from their roles, instead of feeling like they are stuck in Groundhog Day. Kenny wants the audience to find joy, bliss, and happiness in their roles, regardless of the challenges that come along. He encourages them to lean into the enjoyment of life and to set aside personal preferences in order to create meaningful experiences from leadership. Establishing clear purpose and values is essential for successful leadership. .. Ultimately, having strong values and purpose can lead to successful leadership. Kenny suggest that purpose and divine intervention play a role in aligning one's work. He then moves on to discuss the importance of developing and empowering others, as well as building strong relationships. The speaker emphasizes the energy that is transferred when developing and empowering others and building strong relationships. He encourages people to build strong relationships, create a positive impact, and embrace challenges and failures as learning opportunities. He believes that it is important to keep learning and growing, no matter what level of success one has achieved. In this week's episode of In the Den, Jen talks with community organizer and political activist Chelsea Gaona-Lincoln about strategies to find balance while advocating for our queer children, particularly during the legislative season where so many bills are being introduced that could harm our kids. They discuss ways to practice self-care and maintain balance between advocacy and home life, along with stressing the importance of modeling resilience and self-care for our children. Special Guest: Chelsea Gaona-LincolnChelsea is a queer, Chicana, proud momma and wife, born on the ancestral lands of theShoshone Bannock and Paiute people, known now as the Treasure Valley. After receiving her BA in psychology and minor in education from the College of Idaho, Chelsea spent 18 years in the mental health field, the majority of it as a behavioral therapist with neurodivergent youth, while building up her political stamina in her spare time. She currently works as a lobbyist and consultant in community centric organizing and political advocacy. She is also a birth doula and reiki practitioner.Chelsea serves as the Executive Director for the statewide- volunteer run non profit, Add the Words, Idaho.
