"The problem is way bigger than people think… scams are now so good, even cybersecurity professionals fall for them." — Dmitri Vellikok, VP of Embedded Security, F-Secure In this compelling Technology Reseller News podcast, publisher Doug Green speaks with Dmitri Vellikok, Vice President of Embedded Security at F-Secure, about the urgent need for cybersecurity resilience in an AI-driven threat landscape. With nearly four decades of experience in digital protection and a long-standing, behind-the-scenes role powering cybersecurity for major telcos, F-Secure is stepping up efforts to help service providers build networks that are not only secure—but resilient. Dmitri Vellikok The conversation dives deep into how AI is a double-edged sword: enabling advanced threat detection, but also fueling a new generation of sophisticated scams that are increasingly difficult to identify. Vellikok discusses findings from F-Secure's recent global consumer security survey, which revealed that while 70% of users believe they can spot a scam, 43% have actually fallen victim—highlighting the growing disconnect between confidence and reality in the digital age. Vellikok emphasizes the critical role telecom operators can play in defending users. With access to rich behavioral and traffic data, service providers are uniquely positioned to identify and prevent threats in real time—especially as AI enables more targeted and scalable attacks. He outlines how F-Secure is working to empower these providers with predictive cybersecurity tools, including the concept of a “threat score” that can alert users when they're most at risk. Importantly, the podcast also addresses the balance between robust security and seamless user experience. Consumers, Vellikok notes, don't want tutorials or pop-ups—they just want problems to quietly go away. This insight is guiding F-Secure's approach to embedded protection that works silently and effectively behind the scenes. As 5G continues to roll out globally, the conversation ends on an optimistic note: this new architecture not only enhances connectivity but offers new opportunities for layered, real-time security solutions tailored to tomorrow's threats. Risto Siilasmaa on näyttänyt käytännössä, kuinka rakennetaan menestyvä yritys.

Stenvall näkee yrityssektorilla toimivan WithSecuren osakkeessa huomattavaa potentiaalia. Riikolaa puolestaan kiinnostaa F-Securen kannattava ja vakaa kuluttajaliiketoiminta. Lisäksi puheenaiheina Ericsson, Remedy, Rovio, teleoperaattorit ja Tecnotree.

Our guest today is Emma Paajanen (Payanen). She's currently based in Boston but was born and raised in a small town in Finland. She got her start in marketing at a Helsinki-based agency as a Comms specialist before moving to big tech at a cyber security company called F-Secure and also spending a year in internal comms at Nokia. Non-profit organizations play a crucial role in our well-being. In many parts of the world, they're a major source of education, health care, social services, and more. In this episode, Adrien Ogee, Chief Operating Officer for the CyberPeace Institute, a non-governmental organization that helps defend the security, dignity, and equity of people in cyber space; and Heikki Stark, a security consultant with F-Secure who recently won an award for his work with the KyberVPK Community Cyber Response Force, which helps providers of critical services fight and recover from cyber attacks, gave us their thoughts on how NPOs can and should tackle the challenges they face in cyber security.

The internet has been one of the most revolutionary technologies of our age, and most agree that the transformation it's brought to our society has been beneficial. Social media – one of the more recent arrivals on the scene – has also generally been a good thing, allowing us to connect with friends and family across the world, find people who have similar interests to us, and rapidly share jokes, memes and information. This latter element, however, has slowly turned from a benefit into a problem. Disinformation and what might be termed “fake news” is seeping in everywhere, making it difficult to know what and who to believe. In this week's episode of the IT Pro Podcast, we speak to Andy Patel, a researcher with cyber security firm F-Secure, about what disinformation is, how it spreads and the negative effects it could have on businesses. To learn more about all of the topics we've discussed this week, head to https://bit.ly/ITPP-disinfo.

Episode 43 of the Modern Agile Show features an interview with Maaret Pyhäjärvi (@maaretp), a Lead Quality Engineer at FSecure, an agile practitioner and the author of Strong Style Pair Programming, Mob Programming Guidebook and Exploratory Testing. Maaret describes the culture at FSecure and the benefits her team discovered when they experimented with removing the Product Owner from their team (though there is still a Product Management group in the company). Her team found that the benefits included far greater productivity, solving problems they hadn't managed to solve in years and becoming far more data-driven. Maaret describes the “superpower” have having a “feature team” that works across three different technical stacks, and how #NoProductOwner, #NoEstimates and #NoJira are working nicely. She describes how her teams have shortened releases from every six months to every two weeks. Maaret's team runs about 300,000 automated tests everyday on 14,000 virtual machines. Only a few of the FSecure developers use Test-Driven Development. The company also got rid of all Scrum Masters during a resizing. Coaching happens, yet it's not an official title. Maaret is a fan of the Modern Agile principles and uses them in her work. You can learn more about Maaret and her work at https://maaretp.com/

If you want to secure the data on your computer, one of the most important steps you can take is encrypting its hard drive. That way, if your laptop gets lost or stolen—or someone can get to it when you're not around—everything remains protected and inaccessible. But researchers at the security firm F-Secure have uncovered an attack that uses a decade-old technique, which defenders thought they had stymied, to expose those encryption keys, allowing a hacker to decrypt your data.
