This begs the question, should the federal minimum wage be increased to $15 per hour? Based on this information, it sounds like an easy YES! However, we must consider small business owners and how that affects them. Will the cost of goods & services increase as a result of this increase thus evening out the increase in wages? Where in the US Constitution does it say if a President has a pen and a phone, he can be dictator for life? Obama started it, and now when Biden clearly realized he cannot get a $15 Federal Minimum Wage through Congress because Democrats are against it, he just issued an executive order mandating it for all Federal Contractors, regardless of any skill level required for the job — from janitorial staff to cafeteria staff to highly skilled trade workers to licensed, degreed professionals. As long as such “wages” are just passed along to the taxpayers through government contracts, the Democrats think that is fine. For any business needing to make a profit and doing business with the Federal Government, this is absolutely, financially impossible, and the Democrats do not care!Press Secretary Jen Psaki slipped up and almost called the current President in the White House signing all these Executive Orders “Obama”. We know Biden is not now capable of developing and writing Executive Orders in the volume he is issuing them, but the question (behind the scene) is who is really doing it? It is the kind of actions Obama would have done, but he probably is not the one doing it. What about someone who has a connection to Obama working behind the scenes now? We don’t know; but chances are good it will eventually leak out in a slip-up like the one which happened today. The owner of Linnie’s Pub’s, sports bar in Cincinnati, Ohio, is so tired of inappropriate comments from sports personalities that he announced he would no longer play NBA games in his bar until LeBron James is expelled from the NBA over his terrible tweets regarding cops. The bar owner supports law enforcement, and he has had enough of those who do not, including those supporting BLM (the marxist, anti-cop, anti-American Black Lives Matters). Our American Mamas, Denise Arthur and Teri Netterville, are hoping other bar owners will follow his example, and they hope Linnie’s Pub attracts a lot of new patrons.Gallup did a poll and found more Americans distrust Biden than similarly distrusted Trump at the same point in their Presidencies. By giving the Democrats 96% of what they want and only giving the Republicans 4% of what it wants, there is no way Biden can be considered anything but divisive! There are some Democrats who know the Far Left is on a destructive path which will hurt both the Democrat Party and the United States of America. “Wokeness” is a problem for Democrats looking to the future, and it could hurt them in future elections. Being “woke” means you are putting more emphasis and value upon “external, easily observed” factors, such as skin color, than on a person’s underlying character. James Carville, Tulsi Gabbard, and Rose McGowan are expressing openly their concerns.

The politicians in Washington that are proponents of a $15 minimum wage claim that it will raise the pay rate for people to one that is a livable wage. Although the Congressional Budget Office estimates a rise in the minimum wage to $15 would increase the income of around 7 million people, the increase in wages would also result in a loss of 1.3 million low-end jobs, according to the Department of Labor.   A $15 an hour minimum wage might sound like a good idea. This is particularly the case if you are currently earning a low wage. There is no argument that living on a low hourly pay rate is a challenge. However, raising the federal minimum wage to $15 will not likely have the outcome many people are hoping for.   This podcast episode talks about the problems with raising the federal minimum wage to $15.   Visit Our Website: https://smartstartmoney.com Subscribe to the Podcast:  https://smartstartmoney.podbean.com/ Questions or Comments About the Podcast? President Joe Biden remains staunchly committed to pursuing a $15 an hour federal minimum wage. No matter how long the fight drags on in congress. And no matter how heavy the opposition he faces is. "No one should work 40 hours a week and live-in poverty," Biden said. "But it's totally legitimate for small business owners to be concerned." One recent study by the National Bureau of Economic Research concluded that 80% of economic research over the last 30 years had found job losses associated with a higher minimum wage. The evidence of a negative impact is stronger for teens and young adults, as well as the less educated. Since 2009, the federal minimum wage has been $7.25 an hour, though 29 states and Washington D.C. have higher minimum wages, as do some cities and counties, according to PolitiFact. Among the general public, the $15 minimum wage is popular, although business groups and their allies among lawmakers argue that they would cause job losses So, what should we make of the “Fight for $15?” Hoyt Bleakley is a Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan and he joined me this week to provide some prospective on the subject.

GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy Distorts Job Loss Estimates For $15 Minimum Wage Hike

PolitiFact California

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 11, 2021

By Chris NicholsWould raising the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour “destroy up to 3.7 million jobs” in the United States? That’s what GOP House Minority Leader and California Rep. Kevin McCarthy claimed in the headline of a press release on Tuesday as Democrats in Congress began debating the move. On Twitter the same day, McCarthy wrote the wage hike “could put nearly 4 million Americans out of work.” This is a screen shot of the headline from McCarthy’s press release. The Biden Administration last month proposed raising the federal minimum hourly pay from $7.25 to $15, with increases of about $1.50 every year for five years. To make that happen, Congressional Democrats introduced the Raise the Wage Act of 2021 last month and began considering the legislation in the House Committee on Education and Labor this week. Here’s what McCarthy said in the body of the press release: “At this critical point, the Democrats’ big, creative response is to raise the federal national wage to $15 an hour — a move the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office previously found could cost nearly 4 million workers their jobs.” President Joe Biden initially included the proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour in his $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill. But he predicted last week it would be left out due to opposition from Republicans and centrist Democrats. Given the debate over raising the wage and its impact on jobs, we decided to take a closer look at McCarthy’s claim in this fact check. Our Research In his press release and tweet, McCarthy linked to an analysis of the wage proposal by the Congressional Budget Office published on Monday. The CBO, a nonpartisan research service, predicted the wage hike would eliminate jobs, but would also raise wages for an estimated 17 million people and lift 900,000 people out of poverty. It doesn’t say anything about destroying an estimated “3.7 million” positions as McCarthy claimed. Instead, the CBO said “the average estimate is that employment would be reduced by 1.4 million workers.” The report goes on to say there’s a “one-third chance” the loss will be between 1 million and 2.7 million workers, still far less than McCarthy’s number. “Young, less educated people would account for a disproportionate share of those reductions in employment,” the report adds. A spokesperson for McCarthy did not respond to questions. Deborah Kilroe, a spokesperson for the CBO, said McCarthy likely got his figure from a July 2019 CBO report that also examined raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour. That older analysis predicted the “median estimate” for job losses would be 1.3 million. Meanwhile, it said “there is a two thirds chance that the change in employment would be between about zero and a decrease of 3.7 million workers.” That last figure lines up with McCarthy’s statement of “nearly 4 million workers,” but it comes from the high-end of an old report and ignores what the CBO published this week. Last month, FactCheck.org found Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul also distorted the facts on this topic. The senator told Fox News that “the government estimates are close to 4 million people will lose their jobs,” if the minimum wage hike goes through. FactCheck.org examined the July 2019 CBO report [the current report had yet to be published] and found Paul cherry-picked the high-end of that report. Our Ruling Republican House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy claimed raising the national minimum wage to $15 per hour “would destroy up to 3.7 million jobs.” McCarthy appears to be citing a Congressional Budget Office analysis from 2019 that said, at the high-end, 3.7 million jobs could be lost from the wage hike. But in his statement, he linked to the CBO’s new analysis published this week which found an average estimate of 1.4 million jobs would be lost, a figure he omitted. The new CBO report added there’s a “one-third chance” the loss will be between 1 million and 2.7 million workers, still far less than McCarthy’s claim. In the end, we found McCarthy cherry-picked a figure from an old report while ignoring current data on the topic that tells a different story. We rated his claim False. FALSE – The statement is not accurate. Source List Rep. Kevin McCarthy, press release and  tweet. Feb. 9, 2021. If it’s not minimum wage – which in the state of Pennsylvania is set at the Federal Minimum Wage of $7.25 per hour – it’s pretty damn close. The United States set that minimum wage in 2009 and Pennsylvania is one of 21 states – less than half of the states in the nation – that mirrors the federal numbers. According to an article by Marc Levy for the Associated Press, dated November of 2019, ” About 385,000 people in Pennsylvania hold a job that pays between $7.25 an hour and $9.50 an hour, according to the state Department of Labor and Industry. “By contrast, the retail cost of a gallon of milk in Pennsylvania as of Jan. 6, 2020, is $4.34. More than a half hour of work, as Destiny states in her interview. The cost of a gallon of gas is $2.92. Depending on what fuel you use to heat your home, you could be looking at $150 a month to keep your pipes, and your kids, from freezing.A person working 40 hours a week at $7.25 per hour can expect to bring home around $250 a week.See the full show notes here!Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/twomomsdaydrinking)
