Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 99 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by AwardsWatch contributor Cody Dericks to discuss the next film in their Peter Jackson series, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001). After making The Frighteners, Peter Jackson set out to make an epic, and had the blessing of the Hollywood studio system to do so. He spent a lot of his time trying to come up with an idea to remake the monster movie classic King Kong (more on that in a couple of weeks). After a failed attempt to get that project off the ground, he set off to make an action adventure film in the vein of The Lord of the Rings, and after a first draft, his partner Fran Walsh told Jackson that a lot of what he was writing basically was J.R.R Tolkien's trilogy of books. From that moment, Jackson decided to make his version of a collection of novels that were deemed unadaptable for the big screen, and in doing so, created one of the single most influential trilogies in cinema history. Ryan, Jay, and Cody break down their thoughts on the first entry into The Lord of the Rings saga, the behind the scenes drama leading up to making the film, re-casting what ifs, the earnestness of these films, the building and breaking apart of the fellowship, who is the character they relate to the most, and we finally find out after fifteen years of being agnostic to this trilogy if Jay now likes Lord of the Rings. You'll have to listen to find out. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube and more. This podcast runs 2h30m. The guys will be back next week to continue their series on the films of Peter Jackson with a review of his next film, The Lord of the Rings: The Tw Towers. In the second of five special episodes to celebrate this podcast's 300th episode, focused on J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy epic The Lord of the Rings, Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings was 18-years-old by the time Peter Jackson started considering making his own version in live action. Jackson and his partner Fran Walsh wanted to make something high fantasy, but kept coming back to Tolkien's stories.Acquiring the rights from Saul Zaentz took a while, and at the time Jackson was contracted to Miramax, so Harvey Weinstein took charge. With a planned two-film adaptation, filmed back-to-back, this The Lord of the Rings adaptation was worked on under Miramax. Then the budget started to balloon, but parent company Disney refused to help.Jackson was given an ultimatum by Weinstein - either reduce the number of films to one, continue with two on a heavily reduced budget, or abandon the project entirely and find another studio willing to take it on within four weeks.Jackson and his "fellowship" would choose their own quest to find a new studio, and they ended up at New Line Cinema, where something incredible happened... This episode is Part 1 of a three-part story, as well as Part 2 of a five-part group of episodes. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decision making process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 98 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys are joined by Brian Tallerico, Managing Editor of RogerEbert.com, to discuss the next film in their Peter Jackson series, The Frighteners (1996). The critical success of Heavenly Creatures proved to put Jackson on the map, with Hollywood calling for him to start making bigger pictures. In writing a treatment in 1992 for an idea that would become The Frighteners, Oscar winning director Robert Zemeckis viewed their idea as a chance to be a spin off to the television series Tales from the Crypt, centering on a small town private eye who can see and speak to the dead. In working with Jackson and Fran Walsh, Zemeckis liked the idea of the young director making the film, and thus became the last film he would make before the biggest project of his life. But is it good, is it successful, or is it a forgotten relic that doesn't make sense within Jackson's filmography. Ryan, Jay, and Brian debate where The Frighteners lands, the importance of Weta Digital, the career of Michael J. Fox, Jackson getting the movie filmed in New Zealand even though it takes place in America, and preview the start of the boys' journey to Middle Earth over the next couple of weeks. The Fellowship of the Ring is a masterclass in how to creatively adapt a book while technically also skipping, say, 4 entire chapters without missing a beat. I am more amazed at what Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and the whole team pulled off. It rejuvenated J.R.R. Tolkien's work in a way that kept many of his important themes in it. We continue to analyze what made these movies so special and compare them to the books where we can. Time Codes: 1. Intro (0:00) 2. Peter Jackson Directing Action (0:51) 3. Kevin Wright, vice president of production and development at Marvel Studios, has left the media giant to pursue producing his own original tv and film ideas. Notably, Wright was an executive producer for the MCU streaming series Loki, which was actually his pitch to Kevin Feige and series star Tom Hiddleston. Wright originally started at Marvel as a development assistant. Happy Hunger Games! At least certainly for fans of the franchise as author Suzanne Collins announced a new installment in her Hunger Games saga called Sunrise on the Reaping, which will release March 18, 2025. The book is another prequel like The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Alongside this announcement, Lionsgate shared that a film adaptation of the new book is already greenlit and currently set to premiere on November 20, 2026. At a panel for The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim at the Annecy Animation Festival, 20 minutes of the film was shown to the audience. The footage was applauded by the crowd and by Andy Serkis, who was running the panel. Serkis also revealed at the event that Miranda Otto, who played Eowyn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy will serve as the story's narrator and that Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh were executive producers on the film, which hits theaters in December. Maybe franchise fever still exists! One would think so after seeing that Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's latest team up, Bad Boys: Ride or Die, crushed its opening weekend projections, opening at $104.6 million globally. The film punished Furiosa's opening with a 58% higher box office. Abbott Elementary actor Tyler James Williams asked Anthony Mackie about the challenges he faced transitioning Sam Wilson from films to television. Paraphrasing, Mackie said “Bringing Falcon to that series, there was so much time to fill. It's literally so much story and so much exposition and so much character that it's a daunting task. Luckily it was just a great experience with great leadership.” Legendary has tapped Grant Sputore to direct the next theatrical outing in the Monsterverse franchise following March's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Sputore most recently helmed the 2019 sci-fi movie I Am Mother. Kristen Stewart will make her TV series-starring debut in The Challenger, a limited series in which she'll play Sally Ride, the astronaut and physicist who became the first American woman to fly in space. Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of Paramount's Star Trek Starfleet Academy as a recurring guest star role and as the season's central villain. Set in the same era as The Acolyte, the next adult novel of Phase III of The High Republic from Star Wars releases on June 11. Stars of 1998's cult classic Practical Magic, Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, are in talks to star in a sequel. Entertainment Weekly claims to confirm that Taylor Swift will not be appearing as Dazzler in July's Deadpool & Wolverine. Peacemaker Season 2 cast Picard actress Sol Rodiguez and The Office actor David Denman. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke announced that the show will end after its fifth season. The Yahya Abdul-Mateen II-led Wonder Man series is rumored to be 10 episodes long. The Frasier revival on Paramount+ has added two Frasier alumni to the cast. Dan Butler, who played Bulldog, and Edward Hibbert, who played Gil Chesterton on the original show, will return to guest star in season two of the revival series. Zack Snyder's director's cuts of both Rebel Moon films will be released on Netflix on August 2nd. The rated R cuts also received new titles which are Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Saturday Night Live actor Beck Bennett becomes the newest addition to the cast of James Gunn's Superman. Rumor has it Bennett will play a reporter of note in the movie. Last week Mikaela Hoover and Christopher McDonald were also added to the cast and will also play reporters in The Daily Planet newsroom.

Miután a kis költségvetésű, tabukat nem ismerő horrorjaival hírnevet szerzett magának, de még azelőtt, hogy A Gyűrűk Ura-trilógiával lenyűgözte volna a világot, Peter Jackson készített egy filmet a szülőhazája, Új-Zéland egyik legnagyobb port kavart bűnesetéről. A Heavenly Creatures (Mennyei teremtmények) egy 1950-es évekbeli ügyet dolgoz fel, amelynek a főszereplője két tinédzser lány: a filmben őket a világhír előtti Kate Winslet és Melanie Lynskey játsszák.  Beszélünk Peter Jackson és a két fiatal főszereplő karrierjéről egyaránt, amelyet jelentős részben ennek a filmnek a nemzetközi sikere indított be. Whitey and Damo are joined by Jeff from MCU's Bleeding Edge and they go head first into Middle Earth again for the Two Towers"The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" is a cinematic masterpiece that continues the epic journey begun in "The Fellowship of the Ring." Directed by Peter Jackson, this second instalment in the trilogy is a compelling blend of fantasy, adventure, and drama, set in the richly imagined world of Middle-earth.The film opens where the first left off, with the Fellowship scattered. Its members are now divided into three groups, each facing their own challenges. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) pursue the Uruk-hai to rescue Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd). Meanwhile, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) continue their perilous journey to Mordor, guided by the treacherous Gollum (Andy Serkis). The third narrative thread follows the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), believed dead, as he returns in a new guise to aid the people of Rohan against the forces of Saruman (Christopher Lee). The film excels in expanding the scope of Middle-earth, introducing new landscapes and cultures. The kingdom of Rohan, with its horse-lords and majestic halls, is a standout, beautifully realized with a keen eye for detail. The besieged city of Helm's Deep, where much of the film's action converges, is a marvel of set design and visual effects, providing a backdrop for one of the most spectacular battle scenes in cinema history.Jackson's direction is both grand and intimate. He masterfully balances large-scale battles with quieter moments of character development. The film's pacing is excellent, interweaving the various storylines seamlessly and keeping the audience engaged throughout its three-hour runtime. The cast delivers outstanding performances. Mortensen's Aragorn is both regal and rugged, embodying the reluctant hero with a sense of gravity and depth. McKellen's Gandalf is a source of wisdom and strength, while Serkis's groundbreaking performance as Gollum is both pitiable and unsettling. The CGI character of Gollum, a blend of animation and performance capture, was a significant achievement for its time and remains a high point in the use of digital characters in film.Howard Shore's score is another highlight. His music perfectly complements the on-screen action, enhancing the emotional resonance of each scene. The themes introduced in the first film are expanded upon here, with new motifs that reflect the evolving narrative. The adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's work is respectful and inventive. While changes were made for cinematic purposes, they serve the story well, maintaining the spirit of the source material. The screenplay by Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Stephen Sinclair, and Jackson is a careful balancing act of staying true to Tolkien's vision while making the story accessible and engaging for a modern audience. The visual effects are groundbreaking. The integration of practical effects and CGI creates a believable, immersive world. The Battle of Helm's Deep, in particular, showcases this blend to stunning effect. The use of forced perspective, miniatures, and digital effects to create the various races of Middle-earth is seamless and convincing. The Two Towers also delves deeper into the themes of power, corruption, and redemption. The film explores the seductive nature of power through the characters of Saruman and Gollum. Saruman's fall from grace and Gollum's internal struggle with his 'Smeagol' persona are poignant illustrations of these themes. The film also examines the bonds of friendship and the resilience of the human (and hobbit) spirit in the face of overwhelming adversity. The movie is not without its flaws. Some fans of the books may take issue with the changes and omissions in the adaptation. Additionally, the film's middle position in the trilogy means it lacks a true beginning and end, potentially leaving some viewers unsatisfied. However, these are minor critiques in an otherwise outstanding film."The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" is a triumph of filmmaking. It is a rare sequel that not only lives up to its predecessor but also deepens and enriches the overarching narrative. The film combines a strong story, well-developed characters, impressive visuals, and a magnificent score to create an unforgettable cinematic experience. It is a testament to the power of storytelling and the potential of the fantasy genre. For fans of Tolkien, cinema, or just great storytelling, "The Two Towers" is an essential film that continues to resonate and inspire.Check out The MCU's Bleeding Edge Youtube channel and check out what Jeff, Cyber and Andres have been up to. Jared, Oriana and Ned discuss their collective choice of topic: Peter Jackson's version of The Return of the King. It's been twenty years since the conclusion of Jackson's three-film effort to adapt the entire Lord of the Rings was released, and it was easily the biggest profile release of the series, coming in with massive interest and attention, setting a variety of box office records in the process along with gaining widespread critical acclaim. It all resulted in a series of worldwide film awards and honors culminating with a famed clean sweep of Oscar wins including best picture, resulting in a tie with Titanic and Ben-Hur with eleven Oscars total but also the only one of those three films to literally win every category it was nominated for, a combined record that still stands. The film's general impact and that of the series as a whole is at this point undeniable, but how it holds up in a look back, caught somewhat between Fellowship's own unquestionable triumph and Two Towers's more stop-and-go successes, warrants its own discussion. What are the many changes made to the tangled relationship between Frodo, Sam and Gollum, and how does that play out as a result for both the film and the wider themes? How does the use of practical models and actual landscapes feed into the feeling of how the film both landed in the moment and held up upon later rewatching, even while it was also the biggest demonstration yet of the possibilities for CGI with massive military clashes and the like? Is it possible to actually lose count of just how many remarkable moments on a grand scale exist throughout the film, even as there are various “well, but…” caveats and questions to raise along the way? How has the whole series of film changed both the perceptions of Tolkien and the film industry in general? And how many endings are there, after all? (Surprise! It never ended, it's running somewhere in a theater right now, maybe.)Show Notes.Jared's doodle. And that's another epic trilogy down. (The earlier entries here and here.)Hurrah for the SAG-AFTRA strike ending and better (not perfect!) terms won.Our episode on evil. Evil!TheOneRing.net report on the return of the Eagle & Child pub. Jason Horowitz's New York Times story about that Italian Tolkien exhibition encouraged by Italy's favorite fascists. Sorry, did we say the quiet part out loud? (In the Guardian, Jamie Mackey with more context.)Our episodes on Peter Jackson's The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers, with lots of notes about the series as a whole so we won't repeat everything here…The sole trailer for The Return of the King. But that's all they needed.Trilogy Tuesday! It was a crazy time and it was great. Here's a photo of the all-day pass given out, and here's an example of that film frame memento given out as well. The opening scene is really something, no lie. Friendly little worm there. The screenwriting guru Ned mentions is Robert McKee – per Brian Sibley's Peter Jackson biography, McKee had come to Wellington, New Zealand to give one of his lectures in 1988, and the New Zealand Film Commission invited Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and future contributing screenwriter for The Two Towers Stephen Sinclair to it and they all apparently took it very much to heart. So a long term impact but even so.The opening exchange between Sam, Frodo and Gollum. Really are some beautifully shot moments in this sequence.Oh did Christopher Lee have things to say in the run-up to the theatrical release. Our episode on the Rankin-Bass Return of the King. It is NOT very good.Yeah yeah the Arwen vision and Arwen dying and…well whatever. But boy that introduction to Minas Tirith. THAT'S how to make an entrance. And the beacons sequence, wow, still. Time zone issues aside. For examples of the Gondor theme earlier on in the series, skip ahead to about a minute into this clip.Ride the Empire Builder! If you like.Hurrah for John Noble (and hurrah for Fringe). Skip ahead three minutes for “The rule of Gondor is MINE!” moment, and the parting between Denethor and Faramir, phew.Minas Morgul, a triumph of John Howe design, glowing and clamped. (The skybeam is the skybeam but the sonic buildup rules.)The Holdo maneuver (it really was great, like the film itself)When Theoden and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, boy that'll ruin ya. That's two good actors very much in the moment. When Aragorn and Eowyn part at Dunharrow, it is very…shippy.“...and Rohan will answer!” Perfect.“The stars are veiled.” Are they, Legolas?Oh you know the Shelob scene. You know. “The Edge of Night” sequence is unnerving, beautiful and horribly sad.The Nazgul as the angels of death, in essence. However petty.Grond! It is great design for sure, plus armored trolls.Gothmog isn't bothered with your petty trebuchets. The Ride of the Rohirrim. No notes. But here come the mumakil…“I am no man!” Yeah, it rules.Air Bud, the lingua franca of us all. That crazy Witch-king mace. Gotta love it.And indeed skip ahead to the end of the clip for that mumak takedown by the scrubbing bubbles. Plus Tracy Jordan with the wisdom. It still only counts as one, we guess.Sam finds Frodo in Cirith Ungol – it's a good moment!“On this good earth!” (Well, maybe not GREAT earth.)“I can carry you!” A beautiful sequence, no doubt. The Crack of Doom. Great acting moments, wonderful moment for Gollum, but not over the cliff again…And yeah when Mount Doom completely explodes…Will they? Won't they?A great way to do individual bows via a movie.“You bow to NO one.” (Cue big emotions.)A wordless toast indeed. And a pumpkin. (And a case of the not gays.)The Grey Havens sends us off. It really is a great Turner-inspired scene.“Into the West” and the end credit portraits. Great job Annie. (The young filmmaker who passed was Cameron Duncan, to correct Ned there.)The Triplets of Belleville is a real treat, see it when you can.Enjoy all the Oscar wins!Ah yes the Eragon movie. Welp. And the Chronicles of Narnia tried. But. (Good luck Greta!)This ran after the episode was recorded but the LA Times had a piece on the movie anniversary and its impact, especially in New Zealand itself. Our Rings of Power and Hobbit films episodes have more about our general qualms there.Want to hear those exclusive podcasts we're talking about on Megaphonic? Sure, it has elements of many famous middle films in trilogies, but it still stands strong. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue our journey through Middle Earth with a conversation about Jackson's 2002 film The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. Here's a hint at what we talk about. How well do the extended and new scenes work in this film? We quite like them. Our characters are split so we have a number of story threads to track. Do they all work? Lots of new characters. Gollum is often brought up as the biggest and most important addition to the film because of the process of motion capture with Andy Serkis to bring him to life. He's astounding and certainly worth a discussion. Does the CGI still generally work? Jackson's cinematic style comes through a few times. Does it always work? What about his epic battle sequence in Helm's Deep? There's plenty to talk about with these films and this franchise. And we talk again about the plight of the cave trolls. Megan Percy joins me on the show this evening to discuss the first movie of one of the greatest trilogies ever made, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - or is it Rings, as I keep calling it? I'm going to be honest, we mostly spend the whole hour gushing about how perfect this movie is, but Megan does come in and drop some pretty cool knowledge about the films and the books and how they may or may not relate. Here are the notes I had for our episode:You shall not pass! Unless you're listening to my podcast about The Fellowship of the Rings. Welcome to Life Through the Big Screen. This movie needs no introduction except to say that, like Ratatouille, when I revisit it, I'm constantly asking myself, "How is this not automatically considered one of my favorite movies of all time?" This is a great movie - and 21 years later, it still holds up as though it were made alongside the MCU. This is one of those rare movies - well, trilogy, really - where everything works perfectly: The acting, the music, the effects, the sets, the script, everything is pure perfection and I have very little complaints about the entire trilogy as a whole. Like most people, I saw each of these movies upon their release, which was always the week or so before Christmas, so these were perfect Christmas treats for the world to enjoy. Thank you, still, Peter Jackson, for the memories. I knew nothing about TLOTR going into my first viewing of Fellowship, but I did read the books years after seeing The Return of the King. I may get burned by many of you, but this is one instance where I believe the movies are better than the books. I beg your forgiveness. I do like the extended versions of the movies, though! But for this segment, we're just going to discuss the theatrical release. Oh, and pro-tip: If you have access to the extended versions, you HAVE to take the time to watch the behind the scenes documentary - that story alone is just as exciting as the movie itself, I kid you not. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring stars (and this is a partial list): Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, Sean Astin, and so many more. It's based off the book by J.R.R. Tolkien, and written for the screen by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. It was directed by the great Peter Jackson - the true Lord of the Rings. On Rotten Tomatoes the film has a critics' score of 91% and an audience score of 95% - both scores I consider to be rather low, actually. This evening I have with me Megan Percy, a friend and neighbor and avid Lord of the Rings fan. So Megan, if you could please share with us a little bit more about who you are, what you do for a living, and for fun? Questions About the Movie: Tell us about your history with this trilogy. When did you first read the books, and are you old enough to have seen the movies in theaters?  Would Tolkien be proud of this recreation of Middle-Earth?  This movie is 21 years old this year. Why do you think it still holds up so well, where other movies of this time just fade away into cheesiness?  Did the prologue explain everything it needed to in order to set up the story?  Couldn't Elrond have killed Isildur, who took the Ring from Sauron?  The Star Wars prequels were coming out during these movies' releases. Say what you will about them, but they kind of groomed audiences to settle for bad acting and mediocre effects and convoluted stories. Do you think TLOTR, because the acting is so superior to anything we'd seen in an epic since perhaps Braveheart or Titanic, the effects are practical and hold up, and the story is relatively easy to follow, audiences were glad for an epic that worked on all four cylinders? In short, did the Star Wars prequels help with the success of TLOTR?  What is your favorite sequence in this whole movie, and why?  Questions for Application To you, what does the Ring symbolize?  What can we expect with this Amazon series, The Rings of Power? Will we get to see the origins of the Nazgul?  Gandolf says, "It is in men we must place our hope." Is Tolkein speaking to the goodness of men?  Galandrielle says, "Even the smallest person can change the course of the future." Do you believe this? And how so? Once we finish up gushing and slobbering over Fellowship and Peter Jackson, I ask Megan five trivia questions about the film and have her name three desert island movies and three desert island books. Before New Zealand director Peter Jackson became world famous for his Lord of the Rings trilogy, he had a cult following for directing a few horror and zombie films that featured wild special effects and stop-motion animation. Then in 1994, at age 32, Jackson showed that he could handle a movie with wider significance and appeal. That film was Heavenly Creatures, a story based on a notorious murder case from the early 1950s in Christchurch, New Zealand. As was to be the case in all his future work, Jackson wrote the screenplay with his wife, Fran Walsh. This was the film that fascinated me when I first saw it in 1995, and then quickly went to see it again. After the picture establishes its time and place with part of an actual 1954 newsreel about Christchurch, we meet Pauline Rieper, a lonely and painfully self-conscious teenage girl played by 16-year-old newcomer Melanie Lynskey. Her parents and siblings don't understand why Pauline is always so angry and withdrawn, although we in the audience can sense that the difficult and confusing effects of puberty clearly play a role. Ignored by her classmates at a girls' school, and disliked by teachers, Pauline is bewildered about her life, an experience well conveyed through Jackson's bold camera effects and frenetic editing. Then, an English girl arrives at the school, Juliet Hulme, played by the 17-year-old Kate Winslet. Vivacious, imaginative, and boldly rebellious, Juliet immediately captivates Pauline, and reaches out to her in friendship, which the shy girl responds to with all the repressed passion of her soul. Winslet had previously appeared on English TV, but this was her first role in a movie. She and Lynskey give powerful, revelatory performances. The bond between Pauline and Juliet quickly becomes rather intense. Pauline introduces her friend to the music of her idol, the tenor Mario Lanza. Their enmeshment expresses itself in imaginative play-acting: they pretend to be fantasy heroines in a mythical kingdom, giving themselves different names and acting out little stories. Here Jackson introduces his animation techniques—large “claymation” type figures dancing, singing, and embracing the girls in the courtyard of a medieval castle. The girls' fantasies not only celebrate their bond, but express anger and hostility towards authority figures who try to discipline them. The trouble starts when Juliet's father feels disturbed by how involved the two girls are in each other. He thinks it's unhealthy, and he tells Pauline's mother that. Both sets of parents try to discourage the friendship in various ways, but of course this only makes the attachment stronger and more determined. When the Hulmes decide to move back to England, Juliet and Pauline think they're being persecuted. Faced with the unthinkable prospect of separation, their fragile minds go over the edge. Heavenly Creatures is a fever dream of a movie. Sometimes it seems like you can barely catch your breath with Jackson's relentless, flamboyant style, funny at first but ultimately tragic. No film that I've seen has captured the insanity of adolescence, the inability to see a future in the pressure of today, than this film has. Heavenly Creatures' remarkable compassion for its misguided characters brings us to painful and unforgettable awareness.
